• How to update ADFS 2.0 Proxy Server Certificate?

  I have proxy server that sits in the DMZ. The default site is running the adfs and has a certificate that is about to expire in 2 weeks. I am not sure what are steps involved in applying a new ssl certificate. I know at the least I will install the new certificate(s) in the local store. Go to IIS and change the certificate using the binding settings. Is there any othern place I have update the certificate?

  Dunno what's going on, no response from github on this prob so I'm asking here. Tried a git push for the first time in a month or so and got this.   After searching a lot i did not get any answers and finally i had to get back to you. Below i am explaining my problem in detail. It's too long, so please don't quit reading. I have explained my problem in simple language. I have been developing an asp.net mvc project. I am using standard ASP.NET roles and membership. Everything is working fine but the remember me functionality doesn't work at all. I am listing all the details of work. Hope you guys can help me out solve this problem. I simply need this: I need user to login to web application. During login they can either login with remember me or without it. If user logs in with remember me, i want browser to remember them for long time, let's say atleast one year or considerably long time. The way they do it in www.dotnetspider.com,www.codeproject.com,www.daniweb.com and many other sites. If user logs in without remember me, then browser should allow access to website for some 20 -30 minutes and after that their session should expire. Their session should also expire when user logs in and shuts down the browser without logging out. Note: I have succesfully implemented above functionality without using standard asp.net roles and membership by creating my own talbes for user and authenticating against my database table, setting cookie and sessions in my other projects. But for this project we starting from the beginning used standard asp.net roles and membership. We thought it will work and after everything was build at the time of testing it just didn't work. and now we cannot replace the existing functionality with standard asp.net roles and membership with my own custom user tables and all the stuff, you understand what i am taling about. Either there is some kind of bug with standard asp.net roles and membership functionality or i have the whole concept of standard asp.net roles and membership wrong. i have stated what i want above. I think it's very simple and reasonable. What i did Login form with username,password and remember me field. My setting in web.config: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="~/Account/LogOn" timeout="2880"/> </authentication> in My controller action, i have this: FormsAuth.SignIn(userName, rememberMe); public void SignIn(string userName, bool createPersistentCookie) { FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(userName, createPersistentCookie); } Now the problems are following: I have already stated in above section "I simply need this". user can successfully log in to the system. Their session exists for as much minutes as specified in timeout value in web.config. I have also given a sample of my web.config. In my samplem if i set the timeout to 5 minutes,then user session expires after 5 minutes, that's ok. But if user closes the browser and reopen the browser, user can still enter the website without loggin in untill time specified in "timeout" has not passed out. The sliding expiration for timeout value is also working fine. Now if user logs in to the system with remember me checked, user session still expires after 5 minutes. This is not good behaviour, is it?. I mean to say that if user logs in to the system with remember me checked he should be remembered for a long time untill he doesn't logs out of the system or user doesn't manually deletes all the cookies from the browser. If user logs in to the system without remember me checked his session should expire after the timeout period values specified in web.config and also if users closes the browser. The problem is that if user closes the browser and reopens it he can still enter the website without logging in. I search internet a lot on this topic, but i could not get the solution.   I found professional image libraries sites like http://www.istockphoto.com or http://www.dreamstime.com are quite useful to add some cool images to a website either when filling its contents or when designing its graphic layout. Unfortunately both of the site I listed above use credits plans that expires after 12 months: you buy credits (using real bucks) and then you can download images, but if you don't use all the credits within 1 year, thay suck them out from your virtual wallet (I think it's really unfair, but too bad for you, that's their policy). Do you know about other good image libraries sites (from your real life experience) that use credits to download images, but thay don't expire after 12 months? Obviously I won't ignore your suggestions about any other image libraries sites.

  I am looking on the website but the difference between the two isn't explained. To complicate matters a Google search tells me that developers should focus on the MCPD qualifications but an examination of the MCPD section of the site is telling me that the Web Application exams will expire in July 2013! It seems out of date. Meanwhile the MCSD exam seems to be a lot more up to date with references to HTML5/ASP.net 4.5 MVC applications! What's the difference? Are the MCPD certifications going to be updated after July?

  I take care of a company intranet and measure the traffic with GA. I am absolutely sure that there are no more than 5000 URLs in our company and it is impossible to check the intranet from outside the company network. Yet when I check the number of Unique Visitors (UV) in the last year GA says there were 36.500 of them...How is that possible? I thought UV should measure each URL only once in the given time period. Could anybody explain how this actually works? Can it be that the cookie trackers expire after some time and are counted more then once?

• Moving from one DNS provider to another

  I had registered with a particular DNS provider X and I have been unhappy with their services and now when the time for renewal came, I did not renew and I let it expire. I am hoping that once it is expired from this provider, I would be able to sign up for the same domain name from an alternative provider which I have tested and I am satisfied. What kind of precautions should I take? The domain name is not a critical one, it is of a NGO and we prefer to own it again without any change in the name. The information given by the expiry notice says Domains can be renewed between 90 days before and 14 days after the expiry date. If domains are not renewed they will be removed from the account and set for deletion. Should I wait for time till gets deleted at their end so that I can sign up for the same from another provider?

• Ubuntu 14.04 Notification incorrectly displayed

  I have a problem with my notifications on Ubuntu 14.04 x64. The notifications are just plain text with a colored background, and are also strangely placed in the top left corner. I have no idea on how it changed. After one reboot it was just there.. Here is a picture of the problem in question.: As you can see the notification appear over the unified menu. How can I restore the original state of the notification bubble? • Having good domain name and using domain aliases ( I use notlong.com)?

  I use only free servers and after creating my website: http://pundaquit.republika.pl I decided to make access to that domain by simple domain name . I decided to use domain alias http://notlong.com/ service and have simple domain name http://pundaquit.notlong.com The second advantage of using alias here was to be independant from my file host which I will have to change. I haven't found a better alias service like notlong, because notlong.com is easy to remember. After that I encounter many problems: * most of forums or social services treat notlong adress as a spam, * Bing so far hvn't accepted http://pundaquit.notlong.com domain and others. Is it another way to have good free domain name? How about the situation when your hosting server will inform you to expire? Only a lasting layer of domain aliases make you independant from the real file hosts.

  For some time now, Microsoft has made available free, stripped-down, time-limited Virtual PC images for testing web apps in older versions of IE.   I have a problem that I want you to help me, I am currently making a website, I am building that website on HTML5 and CSS3 technology, every feature I'd like to use I check it first in "CAN I USE", the technology I use most is box-shadow, and I already made some great things with it but, I have a doubt about the percentage of browser that don't support that technology, the percentage of browser that do not support box-shadow is around 17.12%, and if you see the conclusions (show options = other options = show conclusions) they say that that feature isn't ready yet because they are "Waiting for Opera Mini 5.0-6.0 to expire", I personally think that the best that we can do in order to make people update their browsers is not support older browser, but ... am I right thinking like this? will I have bad consecuences if I don't support older browsers? is worth to work twice just to support older browsers? should I still working with box-shadow?

• WUBI install not completing on Dell Latitude D600 using 10.04 and 10.10

  While trying to install a dual boot from LiveCD, WUBI seems to go through all the steps correctly. It unpacks everything, reboots, starts to finalize the install, brings up the install slide show and seems to do everything necessary. The slide show disappears and what is left is what would normally be the background, however there is no login, no panels, no response to any input or keystrokes. Using 10.04 I had a mouse cursor (working) with 10.10, not even that. In 10.04 The only way to reboot is to shutdown using the power switch. When it reboots it goes through the "finalizing install" phase again. In 10.10 if I hit the power switch it brings up a shutdown menu that doesn't respond to the keyboard, but does shutdown when the 60 seconds expire.

• Upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 -> 12.10 and Drupal 7 site now get error

  I do all my Drupal 7 webdev and today I took advantage to upgrade my local WebDev box O/S to Ubuntu 12.10 from 12.04 and now I get the following errors for all my D7 projects on my localhost WebDev box (Ubuntu 12.10) It was all fine pre Ubuntu 12.04: Error The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. Error message PDOException: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1286 Unknown storage engine 'InnoDB': SELECT expire, value FROM {semaphore} WHERE name = :name; Array ( [:name] => variable_init ) in lock_may_be_available() (line 167 of /var/www/jobsdaily/includes/lock.inc). A quick research and look into the phpmyadmin (3.4.11.1) and it seems InnoDB is an issue and when I click on a table to see data I get #1286 - Unknown storage engine 'InnoDB'. I have all my D7 sql backed up, but don't really want to go down the whole 'import' route, since it's 10 months work! Anyone had this issues and can anyone suggest fix ideas? Thanks

• Do big domain sellers ever stop renewing their domains? [on hold]

  There are many companies out there who register tons of domains that they have no plans to use except for trying to sell them for a ridiculously high price. One domain name in particular was registered in year 2000 and hasn't been in use since then other than as a temporary redirect website for about a month (when checking web.archive.org). It makes me furious that this behaviour has not been outlawed yet. I wonder if it's even worth to wait for a .com domain to expire anymore? Do you have any success stories to share?

• Expiring timed actions a good idea?

  We have an online game where players sometimes have to wait a while (say 30 minutes) before a process they intiated completes. This encourages them to come back later. An example of this is growing crops in Farmville or basically any action in the Sims Play4Free. Now, however, there is the idea to let these processes expire, so if the player doesn't 'reap' them in time (e.g. within 4 hours) they are aborted. I'm a bit sceptical about this. How will this make players come back more often? Is not the reward of reaping the process enough for that? Can we expect players to fit their daily schedule around our game, maybe even set the alarm clock at night? Won't this just cause players to give up on starting these processes in the first place? I realise this may be too subjective for this site, so I'll end with a concrete question: Do (m)any other online free-to-play games employ this technique?

  I have a site that lists offers, promotions from other websites. Since the offers expire rather quickly I don't save them into my database. I see no point in having a page from 2010 about 30% discount on a certain brand of shoes which isn't availabe anymore. A visitor enters my website; He clicks on the "shoes" category; http://www.mysite.com/shoes/ Here he sees 20 available promotions from different online stores. He clicks on a promotion and gets to a page like this: http://www.mysite.com/shoes/promotions/prada Questions: I use the template promotions.php and list all the promotions. /promotions/prada/ /promotions/otherbrand/ .... What I do is use "noindex, follow" for the links. Is that a good idea? Or should I use rel="canonical" for the promotion page? How do you advise me to handle this from the SEO point of view?

• Trying to retrace our SEO domain redirect strategy

  An SEO built a copy of my company's e-commerce site on another domain that contained our product's keywords in the name (i.e. as if Levi's built a duplicate site on bluejeans.com)...and then they referenced a lot of the images on the actual website from the other domain (as if Levis.com had images on it referenced like: img src="http://www.bluejeans.com/jeans-front.jpg"), but when you tried to reach the site by typing the name into the browser you would be redirected to the regular website, so the site wasn't really used for any purpose except I guess SEO. Since I didn't think this was doing anything GOOD for us at the time, I deleted the duplicate site and let the hosting on it expire, only to watch our search engine position rankings fall dramatically. Any ideas as to what was going on there? I want to get it back to understand its impact, but I don't know how it was set up. I contacted our host and they have no idea how it was set up. I suspect there was some sort of redirect in play, or something?

• Content from a domain I used to own is appearing in my twitter feed

  I had an old domain with a WordPress setup hosted by GoDaddy. I changed the business name and moved everything over to a new site, new domain, and new host a couple of years ago. I let the old domain expire. It was recently purchased by someone for cheap, article spun content. Now, anytime they post a new article, it's automatically posted to my Twitter account. I contacted them to remove this, but given the quality of their spun articles, I doubt they will remove it. Is there any recourse I have through Twitter or the host to get this removed?

  I have an application that integrates with Facebook using Oauth 2. I can authorize with FB and query their REST and Graph APIs perfectly well, but when I authorize an active browser session is created with FB. I can then log-out of my application just fine, but the session with FB persists, so if anyone else uses the browser they will see the previous users FB account (unless the previous user manually logs out of FB also). The steps I take to authorize are: Call [LINK: graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id...] This step opens a Facebook login/connect window if the user's browser doesn't already have an active FB session. Once they log-in to facebook they redirect to my site with a code I can exchange for an oauth token. Call [LINK: graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id..] with the code from (1) Now I have an Oauth Token, and the user's browser is logged into my site, and into FB. I call a bunch of APIs to do stuff: i.e. [LINK: graph.facebook.com/me?access_token=..] Lets say my user wants to log out of my site. The FB terms and conditions demand that I perform Single Sign Off, so when the user logs out of my site, they also are logged out of Facebook. There are arguments that this is a bit daft, but I'm happy to comply if there is any way of actually achieving that. I have seen suggestions that: A. I use the Javascript API to logout: FB.Connect.logout(). Well I tried using that, but it didn't work, and I'm not sure exactly how it could, as I don't use the Javascript API in any way on my site. The session isn't maintained or created by the Javascript API so I'm not sure how it's supposed to expire it either. B. Use [LINK: facebook.com/logout.php]. This was suggested by an admin in the Facebook forums some time ago. The example given related to the old way of getting FB sessions (non-oauth) so I don't think I can apply it in my case. C. Use the old REST api expireSession or revokeAuthorization. I tried both of these and while they do expire the Oauth token they don't invalidate the session that the browser is currently using so it has no effect, the user is not logged out of Facebook. I'm really at a bit of a loose end, the Facebook documentation is patchy, ambiguous and pretty poor. The support on the forums is non-existant, at the moment I can't even log in to the facebook forum, and aside from that, their own FB Connect integration doesn't even work on the forum itself.   I want to avoid an item being removed from cache when expire in SOME OCASIONS If i understand how CacheItemUpdateCallback works, i need to asign to expensiveObject the new object, in my case: the old one. But i cant access the item with HttpContext.Current.Cache[key], my question: how to access it? or in other words, How avoid this item being removed.?

• What is the best way to set a database entry so that it expires after n hours using Ruby/Rails?

  My app has a token model as such: class Token < ActiveRecord::Base # The model include a few attributes including created_at end I want entries linked to this model to expire after 6 hours, meaning that they should get automatically deleted. I know that I could set a cronjob or something similar to do this, but isn't there a better/simpler way? Note: I'm using Rails 3.0.0beta3, mysql (in dev) and postgres (in prod)
