• Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server update / upgrade issue

  I have a starnge problem here with my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server. When I try to update the server I got messages Err and warning, here an eg: sudo apt-get update Err http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com lucid Release.gpg W: Impossible de récupérer http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid-security/multiverse/i18n/Translation-fr.bz2 Erreur temporaire de résolution de «*security.ubuntu.com*» but my server is connected and if I try to ping some DNS server (eg: 8.8.8.8 ) it works ! Can some one help me on that issue ?

• Exchange 2010, Exchange 2003 Mail Flow issue

  While performing the initial Exchange 2010 deployment for a customer migrating from Exchange 2003, I ran into an issue with mail flow between the two environments.  The Exchange 2003 mailboxes could send to Exchange 2010, as well as to and from the internet.  Exchange 2010 mailboxes could send and receive to the internet, however they could not send to Exchange 2003 mailboxes.   After scouring the internet for a solution, it seemed quite a few people were experiencing this issue with no resolution to be found, or at least not easily.  After many attempts of manually deleting and recreating the routing group connectors,  I finally lucked onto the answer in an obscure comment left to another blogger.   If inheritable permissions are not allowed on the Exchange 2003 object in the Active Directory schema, exchange server authentication cannot be achieved between the servers.   It seems when Blackberry Enterprise Server gets added to 2003 environments, a lot of Admins get tricky and add the BES Admin user explicitly to the server object  to allow  inheritance down from there to all mailboxes.  The problem is they also coincidently turn off inheritance to the server object itself from its parent containers.  You can re-establish inheritance without overwriting the existing ACL however so that the BES Admin can remain in the server object ACL.   By re-establishing inheritance to the 2003 server object, mail flow was instantly restored between the servers.    To re-establish inheritance: 1. Open ASDIedit by adding the snap-in to a MMC (should be included on your 2008 server where Exchange 2010 is installed) 2. Navigate to Configuration > Services > Microsoft Exchange > Exchange Organization > Administrative Groups > First Administrative Group > Servers 3. In the right pane, right click on the CN=Server Name of your Exchange 2003 Server, select properties 4. Navigate to the Security tab, hit advanced toward the bottom. 5. Check the checkbox that reads “include inheritable permissions” toward the bottom of the dialogue box.

• Application name licensing issue

  Hi, I started writing an application for Windows Phone marketplace, at the time only making sure that the name I gave it wasn't being used by any other app on the marketplace. I just found out that the same name is being used by a, seemingly popular, SourceForge project. Is this a problem? I haven't released my app yet so I could rename it, but I really like the name and would prefer not to unless it is an issue.

• 12.04 backlight issue for Acer Aspire 5734z-4725 running on usb flash drive

  I have followed the fix found here: Backlight Issue However I can't use the sudo update-grub2 command as it errors with /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?). As this laptop's hard drive is shot, I can't install the OS. I have been able to get it to temporarily work with sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00. I'm new to Ubuntu, so if you know how to fix this please provided as much detail to what I would need to do.

  Hey, So my kern.log and syslog files filled up with tons of the below messages: [514971.000109] phy0 - rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset 0x30c4 with error -108. I was curious as to the steps to take, commands to run, places to look to help diagnose this issue (and curious as to what caused it)? I'm guessing it's something usb elated. I had some issues with my printer earlier today so this might be related. Thanks, Alex

• How to get around the Circular Reference issue with JSON and Entity

  I have been experimenting with creating a website that leverages MVC with JSON for my presentation layer and Entity framework for data model/database. My Issue comes into play with serializing my Model objects into JSON. I am using the code first method to create my database. When doing the code first method a one to many relationship (parent/child) requires the child to have a reference back to the parent. (Example code my be a typo but you get the picture) class parent { public List<child> Children{get;set;} public int Id{get;set;} } class child { public int ParentId{get;set;} [ForeignKey("ParentId")] public parent MyParent{get;set;} public string name{get;set;} } When returning a "parent" object via a JsonResult a circular reference error is thrown because "child" has a property of class parent. I have tried the ScriptIgnore attribute but I lose the ability to look at the child objects. I will need to display information in a parent child view at some point. I have tried to make base classes for both parent and child that do not have a circular reference. Unfortunately when I attempt to send the baseParent and baseChild these are read by the JSON Parser as their derived classes (I am pretty sure this concept is escaping me). Base.baseParent basep = (Base.baseParent)parent; return Json(basep, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); The one solution I have come up with is to create "View" Models. I create simple versions of the database models that do not include the reference to the parent class. These view models each have method to return the Database Version and a constructor that takes the database model as a parameter (viewmodel.name = databasemodel.name). This method seems forced although it works. NOTE:I am posting here because I think this is more discussion worthy. I could leverage a different design pattern to over come this issue or it could be as simple as using a different attribute on my model. In my searching I have not seen a good method to overcome this problem. My end goal would be to have a nice MVC application that heavily leverages JSON for communicating with the server and displaying data. While maintaining a consistant model across layers (or as best as I can come up with).

• Mail on OS X not fetching new Gmail mail – Among other issues

  It started after my 10.6.3 update. I'm basically looking for a "Clear cache" button in Mail. It won't fetch new Gmail (big problem), and there are six copies of the same message in my Inbox that won't delete (spits out the following error). I want to know if (a) anyone else has noticed this issue or (b) found a solution for a similar problem. It's worth it to note that I was getting the dreaded Finder -10810 Won't Start error, along with the progressive lose of control. This prompted two (2) hard resets of the machine and then I immediately went and installed this update. Has not happened since the update but now it's the mail issue.

• Odd MVC 4 Beta Razor Designer Issue

  This post is a small cry for help along with an explanation of a problem that is hard to describe on twitter or even a connect bug and written in hopes somebody has seen this before and any ideas on what might cause this. Lots of helpful people had comments on Twitter for me, but they all assumed that the code doesn't run, which is not the case - it's a designer issue. A few days ago I started getting some odd problems in my MVC 4 designer for an app I've been working on for the past 2 weeks. Basically the MVC 4 Razor designer keeps popping me errors, about the call signature to various Html Helper methods being incorrect. It also complains about the ViewBag object and not supporting dynamic requesting to load assemblies into the project. Here's what the designer errors look like: You can see the red error underlines under the ViewBag and an Html Helper I plopped in at the top to demonstrate the behavior. Basically any HtmlHelper I'm accessing is showing the same errors. Note that the code *runs just fine* - it's just the designer that is complaining with Errors. What's odd about this is that *I think* this started only a few days ago and nothing consequential that I can think of has happened to the project or overall installations. These errors aren't critical since the code runs but pretty annoying especially if you're building and have .csHtml files open in Visual Studio mixing these fake errors with real compiler errors. What I've checked Looking at the errors it indeed looks like certain references are missing. I can't make sense of the Html Helpers error, but certainly the ViewBag dynamic error looks like System.Core or Microsoft.CSharp assemblies are missing. Rest assured they are there and the code DOES run just fine at runtime. This is a designer issue only. I went ahead and checked the namespaces that MVC has access to in Razor which lives in the Views folder's web.config file: /Views/web.config For good measure I added <system.web.webPages.razor> <host factoryType="System.Web.Mvc.MvcWebRazorHostFactory, System.Web.Mvc, <split for layout> Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> <pages pageBaseType="System.Web.Mvc.WebViewPage"> <namespaces> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Ajax" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Mvc.Html" /> <add namespace="System.Web.Routing" /> <add namespace="System.Linq" /> <add namespace="System.Linq.Expressions" /> <add namespace="ClassifiedsBusiness" /> <add namespace="ClassifiedsWeb"/> <add namespace="Westwind.Utilities" /> <add namespace="Westwind.Web" /> <add namespace="Westwind.Web.Mvc" /> </namespaces> </pages> </system.web.webPages.razor> For good measure I added System.Linq and System.Linq.Expression on which some of the Html.xxxxFor() methods rely, but no luck. It allows us to create simple, robust and testable solutions. However, .NET world is not perfect. There is tons of code written in ASP.NET web-forms. You cannot simply ignore it, even if you want to. Sometimes ASP.NET web-forms controls bring us non-obvious issues. The good example is Microsoft ReportViewer control. It looks good until you run the report. The report will refresh itself all the time. The problem caused by ServerReport.SetParameters method in Page_Load. The method cause ReportViewer control to execute the report on the NEXT post back. That is why the page has continuous post-backs. • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS initramfs-tools dependency issue

  I know this has been asked several times, but each issue and resolution seems different. I've tried almost everything I could think of, but I can't fix this. I have a VM (VMware I think) running 12.04.03 LTS which has stuck dependencies. I've performed apt-get clean/autoclean/install -f/upgrade -f many times but they won't resolve. I can think of only 2 other 'solutions': Edit the dpkg dependency list to trick it into doing the installation with a broken dependency. This seems very dodgy and it would be a last resort Downgrade both initramfs-tools and initramfs-tools-bin to 0.99ubuntu13 from the precise/main sources and hope that would get them in step. However I'm not sure if this will be possible, or whether it would introduce more issues. I'm not sure how this situation arise in the first place. /boot was 96% full; it's now 56% full (it's tiny - 64MB ... this is what I got from the hosting company). Can anyone offer advice please?

• Eclipse Check for Updates issue

  I install Eclipse from the Software Center so it links up and will be updated with the rest of my software. Because I am developing for Android, however, I have to install the ADT Plugin within Eclipse by going to Help Install new software (or something to that effect). Now, I do understand that I can update Eclipse through the actual Ubuntu software center/system, but in order to update plugins and extensions within Eclipse, I have to go to Help Check for Updates (which then scans all plugins for updates). The only issue, is that when I installed through the software center, the owner became root, and whenever I run it without root, I'm not able to update - I get the error message "Insufficient access privileges to apply this update." When I run it as root, all of my plugins disappear, because I guess I installed them as myself, not as root. I tried to install the plugins as root, but the Install New Software choice would not work. Ubuntu 12.04 and Eclipse 3.7.2-1

  FO Processor is little more hungry for memory compare to other Java process. If XSLT scalable option is not set and the same time your RTF template is not well optimized definitely you are going to hit Out of memory exception while working with large volume of data. If the memory requirement is not too bad, you can set the OOP Heap size using following SQL queries. Check the current OPP JVM Heap size using following SQL query SQL select DEVELOPER_PARAMETERS from FND_CP_SERVICES where SERVICE_ID = (select MANAGER_TYPE from FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES where CONCURRENT_QUEUE_NAME = 'FNDCPOPP' DEVELOPER_PARAMETERS ----------------------------------------------------- J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx512m Set the JVM Heap size using following SQL query SQL update FND_CP_SERVICES set DEVELOPER_PARAMETERS = 'J:oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsf.GSMServiceController:-mx2048m' where SERVICE_ID = (select MANAGER_TYPE from FND_CONCURRENT_QUEUES where CONCURRENT_QUEUE_NAME = 'FNDCPOPP'); SQLCommit; . You need to restart the Concurrent Manager to make it effective. If this does not resolve the issue, You need to optimize RTF template and set the XSLT scalable option true.

      Introduction:          One of the coolest feature you can find in ASP.NET MVC 3 is Unobtrusive Ajax and Unobtrusive Client Validation which separates the javaScript behavior and functionality from the contents of a web page. If you are migrating your ASP.NET MVC 2 (or 1) application to ASP.NET MVC 3 and leveraging the Unobtrusive Ajax feature then you will find that the this context in the callback function is not the same as in ASP.NET MVC 2(or 1). In this article, I will show you the issue and a simple solution.       Description:           The easiest way to understand the issue is to start with an example. Create an ASP.NET MVC 3 application. This shows that the this context in the callback function is not the element which is clicked. Here, this context in the callback function is the Ajax settings object provided by jQuery. This may not be desirable because your callback function may need the this context as the element which triggers the Ajax request. The easiest way to make the this context as the element which triggers the Ajax request is to add this line in jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.js file just before $.ajax(options) line,   options.context = element;              Then run your application again and click the About link again, you will find that the this context in the callback function remains same whether you use Unobtrusive Ajax or not.       Summary:          In this article I showed you a breaking change and a simple workaround in ASP.NET MVC 3. If you are migrating your application from ASP.NET MVC 2(or 1) to ASP.NET MVC 3 and leveraging Unobtrusive Ajax feature then you need to consider this breaking change. • Issue with CSS font color in Webkit in Lion (#444 looks darker than #333)

  I have a strange issue with Safari and Chrome Mac (19.0.1084.54) in OS X Lion. Here it is, very simply put: When I display it in a Webkit browser, text set in Helvetica Neue and color Hex #444 looks a little bolder, and therefore darker, than the same text with an Hex color value of #333. This does not happen at all in Snow Leopard with the exact same browsers (same version). Happens on any website I tried, so I know it's not something related to the CSS of my website. I tried to change it live through the Inspector and it really shows up. • Mac host and Ubuntu guest on virtual box shared folder issue

  I have set up ubuntu server on virtual box on my mac. I created a shared folder which appears to be saved and visible in the configuration section on virtual box for the ubuntu server machine. My only issue is I don't know where this is or how to access it from inside ubuntu server. Does it get it's own directory or do I have to create some sort of a sym-link? If I do need to manually tell it to look in the mac for the file how do I reference the mac machine?
