  • Play videos with libwebkit in Ubuntu 11.10 server

    I'm using libwebkit (with python-webkit) to render a page that plays a video. This application works fine in a Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop, Nvidia card and lots of libraries and software installed, but in a fresh Ubuntu 11.10 Server with intel 82945G/GZ card the video does not play. I guess either some codec package is missing or it's a driver problem. What could be missing for this to play? I'm trying with this video: http://video.eustasy.co.uk/480/ EDIT: doesn't look like a driver problem. With chromium I can play the video, but with libwebkit + python-webkit the video just shows the first frame and doesn't play. Any hints on what package could be missing? SOLVED: apparently it had to do with lack of audio. While chrome would play the video with no sound, libwebkit wouldn't start video. Adding user to audio and video groups solved the problem.

  • How to move only a specific amount of images from a folder

    I have a folder that has 200.000 images. I want to do the following: Move an X amount of images (50 images, 100 images, 200 images) from that folder to Y folder. Each Y folder can be a number (Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3...). The end result might look like this: Folder 1 (Has X amount of images) Folder 2 (Has X amount of images) Folder 3 (Has X amount of images) Folder 4 (Has X amount of images)

  • Does the lense for videos search youtube correctly

    When I search in youtube.com for "Erika Tipo 11" I get videos about the actual show. When I do the same using the Dash video Lense I get anything else except the actual show. I mean I even get chinesse stuff, some yoga lessons and anything VERY out there that is not even remotely related to the show. Now my questions are: Does the video lense search in a similar way as searching in youtube/vimeo/any other video site? Is there an option apart from the Filter settings to configure the behavior of the search so it searches in a similar way as one would do when searching from the actual site.

  • What tools exist to report bugs

    As of today I only knew about ubuntu-bug which I could use to report bugs about a specific program. But now I learned about apport-collect and apport-bug which basically are: apport-bug - Reports problems to launchpad using Apport to collect a lot of information about your system to help the developers fix the problem and avoid unnecessary questions and answers. apport-collect - Works as apport-bug but it send the information to an already existing bug report. In my case it was apport-collect 1060268 Thanks to Brad Figg in Launchpad. Are there any other tools to report bugs?

  • Understanding the SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Center

    What is available to us through those links?  Have you taken the time to explore and identify what could be useful to you? One of many gems that has come to my attention is the possibility of provisioning SQL Server to work in an image based environment (hint: Virtualization Template perhaps?!?).   Planning: Includes requirements information, documentation, how to guides, online documentation installation and other tools. Among the other tools you will find the System Configuration checker and The Upgrade Advisor. Both tools very important to ensure your deployment and installation would be successful.     Installation:  This sections focuses on getting installations going, from standalone to cluster when it comes to new instances.  Add new nodes to an existing cluster, and also perform upgrades (in this case to SQL Server 2008 R2).  Also part of this is the option to find updates available.   Maintenance: We find in this section, options that will assist us in tasks like repairing corrupt installations to removing nodes from a cluster. An option that is interesting (and we should discuss benefits later in another post) is to be able to do an Edition Upgrade, this is a feature expansion and addition based on your product installation (Developer to Enterprise, for example)   Tools:  From the System Configuration Checker to identify readiness for deployment in a successful manner, to being able to report on features installed.  And being able to run upgrades of existing packages developed in the 2005 offering to the 2008 R2 release for SSIS.   Resources: Useful and essential links to gather information and guidance.   Advanced: Here is where it gets interesting.  I break this down into 3 main groups: Installation Automation: When you install SQL Server there is a configuration file that gets dropped (ConfigurationFile.ini) that would allow for you to perform automated installations.  There are switches and options that go with this to have that process working. Cluster configuration for Sysprep: Create images that are cluster ready, 2 options, start the prep work, and then the complete once at the final destination. Stand-alone configuration for Sysprep:  Like the clustering counterpart, 2 options, prep and complete.  Giving you the option to create standard templates for your SQL Server deployments. I find it fitting that the 3 topics listed here should (and will) be additional topics I will discuss.   Options: Very clear and specific about what this means. Select the Processor Type or the Installation Media Root Path.

  • Windows 8 and Cisco AnyConnect client issue

    As many of us are doing these days, I have fully moved to Windows 8 on my PCs (laptops and desktops).  And in my role as a consultant I work with many clients, many of them use different vpn technologies.  While pretty much every single vpn client I had installed needed a trick or two to work, well Cisco’s AnyConnect vpn client had some issues.  Installation went well, no problem there.  The problem appeared when I attempted to connect, as I received the following message: Pretty clear what the issue is, right? right??!!?? Doing a bit of research (Google knows!), I cam across the following fix: Using our new favorite shortcut:  Windows Key + X Then Run > regedit. We then Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vpnva From the image you can tell there are additional characters in the DisplayName that interfere with the device being able to be correctly identified. This is what it looks like originally. We will remove those characters so it looks more like: Close all open windows and attempt your connection.

  • How to make Ubuntu remember forever the password after the first time

    Is it possible to make Ubuntu remember the password for any program after the first time it asks. I get asked for the password for Synaptic, for making a usb bootable, for connecting to the wifi network, for opening gparted and even to go to the bathroom. Is there a way to just tell it to ask once forever or just tell it to not ask (Without going to root account. I want to keep using my own account)

  • Launcher icon differences in pixels between monitors usign same resolution

    Today I got to test a Samsung SyncMaster 2043nwx. My normal monitor was a 1080p Soniview TV that supports 1920x1080. I use 1680x1050 (16:10) as my common resolution. My amazed is when I see that the launcher icons looks more to a "correct size" of 32px to what they show in my Soniview where they actually take about 50% more using the same resolution. They are both the same resolution but in the Soniview the launcher icons look 50% bigger than the ones in the Samsung. My question is then, why the difference between both monitors since they are using the same resolution but are showing different launcher icon sizes.

  • TFS Backup Plan Wizard Tool

    With the release of the “September – 2010” TFS 2010 Power Tools, came an addition to the Team Foundation Server Administration Console.  This addition is the Team Foundation Backups Tree item.  The tool is used to create backup plans and to work with it you run through a wizard, just like you would in configuring TFS or any of the extensions it has. The areas covered through the tool include: Backup to a Network Backup Path, retention configuration. Under Advanced Options, the extension to be used for the Full and Transactional backups. The capability to include external databases, meaning, include the reporting databases and SharePoint databases as part of the plan. There are further options as you can see, that includes being able to define a task scheduler account, be able to set alerts for notifications on execution of the plans, and last the option to configure the schedule for the plan execution.  All in all a very good tool and great way to safeguard the investment you’ve made.

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL 2008 R2 RTM is only intended as a post-RTM rollup for Cumulative Update 5-7 for the release version of SQL Server 2008 SP1 customers who plan to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 and still keep the hotfixes from Cumulative Update 5-7 for the release version of SQL Server 2008 SP1.   • Is it possible to only allow specific packages updates from a PPA

    Let us say I have added a PPA that has X package that I want but it also has Y package that I do not want to use or receive updates from. How can I, from the same PPA, receive updates for a specific package but deny updates from the same PPA for other packages. A step by step example would be good since this has happened to me in several PPAs that have a particular package I want but also add a whole bunch of others that I do not yet want to update.

    Over time a user will have several problems with Ubuntu as any other OS in the world. What tools and terminal commands exist in Ubuntu to help diagnose how the problem occurred and help solve it if it can be done. Problems like: Ubuntu Freezes after X time or when using Y app Ubuntu rebooted/hibernated/suspended all by itself Ubuntu not showing video or video has problems Ubuntu not making any sound or sound has problems Ubuntu not reading X drive (Pen drive, Internal Drive, External Drive...) Ubuntu slow Ubuntu not working with X hardware when connected Ubuntu network problem Normally there is a couple of GUI tools or Terminal commands that Ubuntu experts typically mention first to use to do a first diagnosis of this.   • Why do I have to add a PPA twice (once to add it to the list of repo, second time to fix a BAD GPG)

    I notice the following: I add a ppa using add-apt-repository, for example the wine ppa, mozilla security, nvidia drivers, etc.. When I go to the Update Manager and tell it to CHECK for updates it throws me a PPA error. To solve the error I add the same PPA again. Why do I have to add the PPA again (This also can be done by adding the received key alone with apt-key) but why does this problem happen anyway.

  • Applying Service Pack 1 to Team Foundation Server 2010

    Disclosure:  I performed the following activities on my Windows 7 SP1 system, Visual Studio 2010 SP1 and a local Basic installation of TFS 2010. As with any deployment of a service pack into a server environment, take your recommended precautions and be aware of the changes you are putting in.  With that said, make sure you backup your databases, and that you have an exit/rollback strategy in the event of an unexpected situation. Team Foundation Server 2010 Service Pack 1 corresponds to KB2182621.  The KB article is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2182621 The process will be very simple to follow, you will need to execute the mu_team_foundation_server_2010_sp1_x86_x64_651711.exe file.  That will extract files needed and launch the wizard driven Installation. Once this process completes, you need to validate the changes. By looking at Team Foundation Server 2010 Administration Console, you should see the reference to the KB number and SP1. There is also a good reason to validate log locations and records. From the Team Foundation Server 2010 Administration Console. Or from Windows Explorer, go to the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Team Foundation\Server Configuration\Logs location and review the logs referenced by the servicing references.

  • Ubuntu freezes when gdm starts

    I have Ubuntu 10.10 (upgraded from 10.04) I was browsing in Firefox yesterday, then the PC suddenly did a reset Once it restarted, everything went normal until gdm begun showing. Then everything froze and locked when userlist showed. I can't move mouse pointer nor do anything with keyboard at this point (just after userlist shows in gdm). PS: Both, mouse and keyboard work fine, because this Ubuntu is dual-booting with a Windows XP install which loads/works fine.   • A great option for those of us who live by virtual environments, SQL Server 2008 R2 sysprep

    For a long time when creating images for my development environment, I had to install the OS and then sysprep.  Only after that would I then create a differencing drive/image that would have SQL Server. So, the thought of having a base/core image for SQL Server as a template was not easily done.  Well, how do things change?  SQL Server 2008 R2 gives us the option now.
