    I'm using castor as an OXM mapper, and I'm having a problem with UTF-8 encoding.   • Thinking Sphinx not working in test mode

    I'm trying to get Thinking Sphinx to work in test mode in Rails. Basically this: ThinkingSphinx::Test.init ThinkingSphinx::Test.start freezes and never comes back. Any ideas how it's done?

  • Capistrano, Mercurial and branches

    It is my understanding that although Mercurial has support from branches, the community generally clone repos instead of creating branches. Similar to the Darcs model, unlike the Git model. I'm deploying a Ruby on Rails app with Capistrano and there I'd like to separate the production from the development branch. Should I point Capistrano to a different repo or should I use branches?

  • How effective can this Tagging solution be?

    Im working on an image sharing site and want to implement tagging for the images. I've read Questions #20856 and #2504150 I have few concerns with the approach on the questions above. First of all it looks easy to link an image to a tag. However getting images by tag relation is not as easy. Not easy because you will have to get the image-to-tag relation from one table and then make a big query with a bunch of OR statements( one OR for every image). Before i even research the tagging topic i started testing the following method: This tables as examples: Table: Image Columns: ItemID, Title, Tags Table: Tag Columns: TagID, Name The Tags column in the Image table takes a string with multiple tagID from the Tag table enclosed by dashes(-). For example: -65-25-105- Links an image with the TagID 65,25 and 105. With this method i find it easier to get images by tag as i can get the TagID with one query and get all the images with another simple query like: SELECT * FROM Image WHERE Tags LIKE %-65-% So if i use this method for tagging, How effective this is? Is querying by LIKE %-65-% a slow process? What problems can i face in the future?

    I want to access private methods and variables from outside the classes in very rare specific cases. I've seen that this is not be possible although introspection is used. So... If you instantiate the class Demo and you call $demo-myMethod(), you'll get a console: that console can access the first method writing a command like: > $this->myPublicMethod(); But you cannot run successfully the second one: > $this->myPrivateMethod(); Do any of you have any idea, or if there is any library for PHP that allows you to do this?   • Rails 2 support after Rails 3 has been released

    Is there some plan or estimate about how long will Rails 2 be supported after Rails 3 has been released? I wanted to ride the wave and move to Rails 3 right away, specially for projects that may take 4 or 6 months to finish (so that they would probably be released with Rails 3.0.0 final) but I've found many things still not working, many basic plugins and gems; so I believe I'm stuck with Rails 2 for now.

  • How to pause a setTimeout call ?

    Im using jQuery and working on a notification system for my site. The notifications automatically fadeout using the setTimeout function. How can i stop the timer of the setTimeout call? For example i would like to pause the setTimeout call while the mouse is over the notification and continue the count down mouseout... I googled "pause setTimeout" with no luck. Im currently clearing the setTimeout call with clearTimeout and at same time fading out the notification on mouseout but it would be nice to have that pause effect. Any ideas?

    When I double click on an mdf file on Visual Web Developer 2008 (NerdDinner.mdf) it says: Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49251 The URL of course points to SQL Server Express 2008. I have that one installed and running. Any ideas why am I getting that message?

    I'm trying to deploy some web services in a WAR application on JBoss 5.1.0. I have created the source files from an existing wsdl using JAX-WS tool wsgen. This created the Service files and @XmlType annotated clases that would act as request and response wrappers. This classes worked well on JBoss 4.2.3, but when moving to JBoss 5.1.0, I get this exception. java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: setProperty must be overridden by all subclasses of SOAPMessage My configuration: Windows XP SP3 (but getting the same on Vista, as well as on Linux) Sun JDK 1.6.0_17 JBoss 5.1.0 GA for jdk6 Thanks in advance!

  • Oracle .NET Provider DLL hell

    I am currently developing on a Win7-32bits computer. Everything works fine. It's a ASP.NET application. I was able to use Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider to connect to Oracle (using 32 bit instant client) and also ODP.NET. No problems at all. Application runs fine. The problem comes when I deploy it to IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server 64bit computer. I can't get Microsoft's deprecated .NET provider or ODP.NET to work easily. Is there a straightforward way to use a 32bit based ODP.NET or Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider in Windows 2008 Server 64bits? DLL hell here! Thanks.

In the School class I'm trying to find out all the students whose Teacher has a given id. The problem is that I get System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. in the statement student.Teacher.Id I thought of doing this.Students.Include("Teacher"), but this.Students doesn't have such a method. I'm currently at the stage where I have a temporary table that contains all of the records that I want to output to a text file.   • Stop multiple sessions accessing the same file simultaneously

    Is it possible to lock a file to stop it being opened while GD library is accessing it? What I am looking to achieve is similar to a database 'serialzable' level of isolation... I want to ensure that only one session/user can access an image at a time to stop a 'dirty read'. May application allows users to add an image of choice to a bigger image. for example the big image is empty Raj & Janet upload their images Raj's session opens the big image. 1 ms later Janet's session opens the big image. Raj's session add's his image and saves the big image 1 ms later Janet's session adds his image and saves its version of the big image. As a result Raj's image is not in the final image as Janet's version overwrote it. I hope that makes it clear enough.

Also the "practical example" given everywhere is the Eclipse Plugin Framework. My questions are: 1) What is the CLEAR and SIMPLE definition of OSGi? 2) What COMMON PROBLEMS does it solve?
