  • External hard drive FAT32 to NTFS conversion fails

    I'm trying to convert the FAT32 file system of an external hard drive to NTFS. Here's what happened: C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk G: The type of the file system is FAT32. Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems.   • Am I obligated to install Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications to receive all Microsoft updates?

    Do I have to install WGA Notifications to receive all Microsoft updates? I currently don't have it on my hard drive, and I get a notification from Microsoft Update urging me to validate my copy of Windows XP. If I don't validate my copy, I don't get all updates. When I click the link however, I get an ActiveX error message. (Yes, I'm doing this in IE8.) Could this have something to do with my decision not to install WGA Notifications?

  • McAfee VirusScan Enterprise or avast! Free?

    I currently have McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on my computer. This was preinstalled on my PC. (My university did a bulk laptop purchase so I got a sweet deal on my laptop. McAfee was one of the extras that were included.) Apparently, it's getting bad ratings from sites such as Virus Bulletin and AV-Test. Am I better off with avast's free antivirus? Is it worth considering avast! Internet Security? I currently have a three-year license for VirusScan Enterprise. I keep my software up to date using Secunia PSI and I don't click on any suspicious links.

  • How to make a non-active window also react to mouse clicks immediately, rather than having it become

    I've been using a Mac at work for a couple of months now, but after getting used to it there still are some annoyances that I'm trying to eliminate. If I have multiple windows open, clicking on a non-active window will activate it - but the application does not register the click. Coming from a Windows background, this makes the UI feel very sluggish, as I feel I'm spending far more clicks than I should. Is there a way to configure this behavior? I know there are utilities available for Windows to tweak things like this, are there any similar tools available for Mac OS?

  • How to process requests twice in Apache

    In order to perform realistic tests for a new backend server, I'd like to process all Apache requests twice. So simply handle all the live requests with the old server, as it's done right now, but then also 'duplicate' the requests to a different virtual host, where the new backend is deployed, which will process the request and log the response. What's the best / most simple way to achieve this in Apache? (the backend is a FastCGI process)

  • How should I deploy my JVM-based web application on ubuntu?

    I've developed a web application using clojure/compojure (JVM based) and while developing I tested it using embedded jetty that runs on 0.0.0.0:8080. I would now like to deploy it to run on port 80 on ubuntu. I do dynamic virtual hosting, so any request for any host that arrives on port 80 should be handled by my application. The issues that worries me are: I can still run it embedded but I'm worried about running my app as root (needed for binding to port 80). I'm not sure if I can 'give up root' when in the JVM. Do I need to be concerned by this? besides, serving web applications is a known problem and I should be using known solutions for this (jetty or tomcat) but especially tomcat seems very heavy weight. Besides, I only have one application that listens to /* and does routing internally. (with compojure/ring). What I'm trying to say with this is that tomcat by default assigns WARs to subfolders which I don't want. So basically what I need is some very safe way of binding to port 80 on ubuntu that can with minimal interference send all requests to my app. Any ideas?

  • having trouble setting up ganglia on three machines

    I am running ubuntu 11.10 I have one machine with gmetad, gmond and ganglia-webinterface. When I browse the web interface this machine picks up the local gmond output. I then added another machine, running only gmond. I didn't really change anything in the config, only the name of the cluster. This machine's output showed up in the web view. The I tried to add a third machine, similarly to the second, but it's not showing up in the web view. I tried looking at syslog and running as a daemon, but I'm not seeing anything suspicious there. Any tips for trouble shooting this?

I tried several combinations of: Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) Line Printer Daemon (LPD) HP JetDirect (socket) Address: http://192.168.1.10:1631/printers/HP5610 192.168.1.10:1631/printers/HP5610 http://192.168.1.10:1631 192.168.1.10:1631 192.168.1.10 ... Driver: HP OfficeJet 5600 Series Whenever I try to print, it fails while saying "connected to printer" or "Printer is busy...zill try again in X seconds" Both Windows 7 and Windows XP computers on the network can successfully access this printer, identifying it as "HP5610 on http://192.168.1.10:1631/" I tried clearing all tasks and printers (ctrl-click in the menu), and resetting it to (socket, http://192.168.1.10:1631/printers/HP5610, HP5600 series) but to no success.

  • Process keeps creating dump files

    We have a Delphi application running on a terminal server that keeps generating dump files. For the same PID, it keeps creating dump files with an interval of around 1 second until the process is killed manually. Another weird thing is the name of the dump files: ±_minidump_default_pid_7916_tid_x6590_2012_6_18_13_48_40.dmp ÷_minidump_default_pid_7916_tid_x6590_2012_6_18_13_48_42.dmp k_minidump_default_pid_7916_tid_x6590_2012_6_18_13_48_39.dmp Ô_minidump_default_pid_7916_tid_x6590_2012_6_18_13_48_41.dmp Ž_minidump_default_pid_7916_tid_x6590_2012_6_18_13_48_40.dmp The dump files aren't telling us much and we would like to have a suggestion where we should start looking.

  • How can I organize my video collection and update meta data?

    I have a large collection of downloaded video files containing different movies, tv shows and music videos. I have a FreeNAS box set up that uses Fuppes as a UPnP media server. My media player on Windows correctly detects this UPnP collection and can stream from it fine. However, All of my music videos, tv shows and movies are all sorted under the same 'Videos' group. I would like to seperate the different types of video files so that they can correctly go under 'Recorded TV' or whatever the case may be. Any ideas? I guess I am looking for something like an MP3Tagger but for video files?

  • How to handle corrupt messages arriving on a socket?

    I've got a working socket handling mechanism, similar (but a bit more complex) to Qt's Fortune Example http://qt.nokia.com/doc/4.5/network-fortuneclient.html http://qt.nokia.com/doc/4.5/network-fortuneserver.html Now I'm wondering how to handle corrupt messages. Discarding the data is a start, but I need to discard up to a point I can start processing messages again. The corrupt message may be lost, but I need to be able to recover from it. I've got the following idea in mind: Put a fixed header at the start of each message, eg. 0xABCDEF01. When recovering, lookup this header and restart handling incoming messages. = Break off readFortune() on a timeout and recover = When encountering an inconsistent header, recover A huge blocksize is still going to be a problem. To fix that, I should be constantly checking whether or not I'm reading gibberish, but this is not always possible. I can also limit the blocksize on certain message-types. Any ideas on this? Any proposals on what to use as byteword?

    EDIT: Added some of the output of the mvn -X -e commands at the end My company is developing a GWT application. We've been using maven 2 and GWT 1.7 successfully for quite a while. We recently decided to upgrade to GWT 2.0. We've already updated the eclipse project and we are able to successfully run the application in dev-mode. We are struggling to get the application built using maven though. I'm hoping somebody can tell me what I'm doing wrong here since I'm running out of time on this.     I have this code which sets up a "main" container into which other modules of the application will go. LayoutContainer c = new LayoutContainer(); c.setScrollMode(Scroll.ALWAYS); parentContainer.add(c, <...>); Then later on, I have the following as an event handler pContainer = c; // pContainer is actually a parameter, but it has c's value pContainer.removeAll(); pContainer.setLayout(new FitLayout()); LayoutContainer wrapperContainer = new LayoutContainer(); wrapperContainer.setLayout(new BorderLayout()); wrapperContainer.setBorders(false); pContainer.add(wrapperContainer); LayoutContainer west = pWestContentContainer; BorderLayoutData westLayoutData = new BorderLayoutData(LayoutRegion.WEST); westLayoutData.setSize(pWidth); westLayoutData.setSplit(true); wrapperContainer.add(west, westLayoutData); LayoutContainer center = new LayoutContainer(); wrapperContainer.add(center, new BorderLayoutData(LayoutRegion.CENTER)); pCallback.withSplitContainer(center); pContainer.layout(); So in effect, the container called 'west' here will be where the module's UI gets displayed. That module UI then does a simple rowlayout with two children. The botton child has RowData(1, 1) so it fills up all the available space. My problem is that the c (parent) container reports a height and width value which includes the value underneath the scrollbars. What I would like is that the scrollbars show all the space excluding their own space. This is a screenshot showing what I mean:
