  • Oracle: Use of notational parameters which calling functions in insert statements not allowed ?

    - by Sathya
Why does Oracle 10 R2 not allow use of notational parameters while calling functions in insert statements ? In my app, I'm calling a function in an insert statement. If use notational method of parameter passing, I get an ORA-00907: Missing right parenthesis error message INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1(P1=>'1', P2=>'2', P3 => '3'), e) Changing the same to position based parameter passing, and the same code gets compiled with no errors. INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1('1','2','3'), e) Why is this so ?

  • PL/SQL time segment calculation

    - by Steve
Hi, I need to figure how much time passed between 2 times. For example: (14:00:00 - 13:15:00) * 24 = .75 I need this to later on convert KW to KWh, but that's not the point. I can not find out how to do this in PL/SQL. My date/time fields look like this in the DB: 1/23/2010 21:00:00 I would appreciate any suggestions. Steve

  • Parsing pipe delimited string into columns?

    - by DMS
Hello, I have a column with pipe separated values such as: '23|12.1| 450|30|9|78|82.5|92.1|120|185|52|11' I want to parse this column to fill a table with 12 corresponding columns: month1, month2, month3...month12. So month1 will have the value 23, month2 the value 12.1 etc... Is there a way to parse it by a loop or delimeter instead of having to separate one value at a time using substr? Thanks.

  • Create a group indicator (SQL)

    - by user1723699
    I am looking to create a group indicator for a query using SQL (Oracle specifically). Basically, I am looking for duplicate entries for certain columns and while I can find those what I also want is some kind of indicator to say what rows the duplicates are from. Below is an example of what I am looking to do (looking for duplicates on Name, Zip, Phone). The rows with Name = aaa are all in the same group, bb are not, and c are. Is there even a way to do this? I was thinking something with OVER (PARTITION BY ... but I can't think of a way to only increment for each group. +----------+---------+-----------+------------+-----------+-----------+ | Name | Zip | Phone | Amount | Duplicate | Group | +----------+---------+-----------+------------+-----------+-----------+ | aaa | 1234 | 5555555 | 500 | X | 1 | | aaa | 1234 | 5555555 | 285 | X | 1 | | bb | 545 | 6666666 | 358 | | 2 | | bb | 686 | 7777777 | 898 | | 3 | | aaa | 1234 | 5555555 | 550 | X | 1 | | c | 5555 | 8888888 | 234 | X | 4 | | c | 5555 | 8888888 | 999 | X | 4 | | c | 5555 | 8888888 | 230 | X | 4 | +----------+---------+-----------+------------+-----------+-----------+

If I have a simple query like: OPEN cursor FOR SELECT USER_ID FROM USER_TABLE WHERE USER_ID = V_SOME_USER; this will return records in different rows but how can I return the rows in the following format: 'userid1', 'userid2', 'userid3'.....'useridN' I want to do this because I want to send this off as a parameter to another stored procedure...Also, what is the limit on how big the string can be when passed to the SP as parameter

  • PL/SQL Package invalidated

    - by FrustratedWithFormsDesigner
I have a script that makes use of a package (PKG_MY_PACKAGE). I will change some of the fields in a query in that package and then recompile it (I don't change or compile any other packages). I run the script and I get an error that looks like ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded ORA-04061: existing state of package body "USER3.PKG_MY_PACKAGE" has been invalidated ORA-04065: not executed, altered or dropped package body "USER3.PKG_MY_PACKAGE" ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "USER3.PKG_MY_PACKAGE" ORA-06512: at line 34 I run the script again (without changing anything else in the system) and the script executes successfully. I thought that when I compiled before I executed the script that would fix any invalid references. This is 100% reproducible, and the more I test this script the more annoying it gets. What could cause this, and what would fix it? (oracle 10g, using PL/SQL Developer 7)

  • Passing BLOB/CLOB as parameter to PL/SQL function

    - by Ula Krukar
I have this procedure i my package: PROCEDURE pr_export_blob( p_name IN VARCHAR2, p_blob IN BLOB, p_part_size IN NUMBER); I would like for parameter p_blob to be either BLOB or CLOB. When I call this procedure with BLOB parameter, everything is fine. When I call it with CLOB parameter, I get compilation error: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'pr_export_blob' Is there a way to write a procedure, that can take either of those types as parameter? Some kind of a superclass maybe?

  • Oracle DBMS_PROFILER only shows Anonymous in the results tables

    - by Greg Reynolds
I am new to DBMS_PROFILER. All the examples I have seen use a simple top-level procedure to demonstrate the use of the profiler, and from there get all the line numbers etc. I deploy all code in packages, and I am having great difficulty getting my profile session to populate the plsql_profiler_units with useful data. Most of my runs look like this: RUNID RUN_COMMENT UNIT_OWNER UNIT_NAME SECS PERCEN ----- ----------- ----------- -------------- ------- ------ 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler 5 Test <anonymous> <anonymous> .00 2.1 Profiler I have just embedded the calls to the dbms_profiler.start_profiler, flush_data and stop_profiler as per all the examples. The main difference is that my code is in a package, and calls in to other package. Do you have to profile every single stored procedure in your call stack? If so that makes this tool a little useless! I have checked http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_plsql_dbms_profiler.htm for hints, among other similar sites.

  • How do I display a field's hidden characters in the result of a query in Oracle?

    - by Chris Williams
I have two rows that have a varchar column that are different according to a Java .equals(). I can't easily change or debug the Java code that's running against this particular database but I do have access to do queries directly against the database using SQLDeveloper. The fields look the same to me (they are street addresses with two lines separated by some new line or carriage feed/new line combo). Is there a way to see all of the hidden characters as the result of a query?I'd like to avoid having to use the ascii() function with substr() on each of the rows to figure out which hidden character is different. I'd also accept some query that shows me which character is the first difference between the two fields.

  • MVC using ODP.NET getting ORA-01840

    - by sse
I am writing a simple MVC Application using ODP.NET. I am trying to call a Pl/Sql proc that inserts a record. Here is the simple Pl/Sql: procedure spAddCountry(pGisRecid in country.GISRECID%type, pCountryCode in country.COUNTRYCODE%type, pCountryName in country.COUNTRYNAME%type, pCurrencyCode in country.CURRENCYCODE%type, pEUTerritory in country.EUTERRITORY%type, pFatCAStatus in country.FATCASTATUS%type, pFATF in country.FATF%type, pFSCountryCode in country.COUNTRYCODE%type, pInsertedBy in country.INSERTEDBY%type, pInsertedOn in country.INSERTEDON%type, pLanguages in country.LANGUAGES%type, pNCCT in country.NCCT%type) is PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION; begin INSERT INTO COUNTRY (GISRECID, COUNTRYCODE, COUNTRYNAME, CURRENCYCODE, EUTERRITORY, FATCASTATUS, FATF, FSCOUNTRYCODE, INSERTEDBY, INSERTEDON, LANGUAGES, NCCT) VALUES(pGISRECID, pCOUNTRYCODE, pCOUNTRYNAME, pCURRENCYCODE, pEUTERRITORY, pFATCASTATUS, pFATF, pFSCOUNTRYCODE, pINSERTEDBY, pINSERTEDON, pLANGUAGES, pNCCT); Commit; end; I am having difficulty passing the date parameter, pInsertedOn, to the Stored Proc. I have verified that the web form retrieves the form data successfully and calls the AddCountry method below, which in turns calls the stored proc, spAddCountry, after populating all of the parms. Here is a snippet of the MVC C# code. I get the following exception: "ORA-01840 input value not long enough for date format". public void AddCountry(Country aCountry) //because the country object field names match the form field names they automatically get bound!! { string oradb = "Data Source=XYZ;User Id=XYZ;Password=xyz;"; OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(oradb); OracleCommand cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandText = "tstpack.spAddCountry"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; ... OracleParameter paramInsertedBy = new OracleParameter(); paramInsertedBy.ParameterName = "pInsertedBy"; paramInsertedBy.Value = aCountry.InsertedBy; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramInsertedBy); // CultureInfo ci = new CultureInfo("en-US"); OracleParameter paramInsertedOn = new OracleParameter(); paramInsertedOn.ParameterName = "pInsertedOn"; // paramInsertedOn.Value = DateTime. Now; //just testing to see if it's WebForm issue // paramInsertedOn.Value = Convert.ToDateTime(DateTime.Now.ToString(), ci); //flail! paramInsertedOn.Value = aCountry.InsertedOn; cmd.Parameters.Add(paramInsertedOn); ... conn.Open(); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); //CRASH! ORA-01840 conn.Close(); } Just to verify that the flow of the program is working, I tried removing the date parm "pInsertedOn" from the pl/sql and from the parm list above, and everything worked fine. I know I am going off of the rails with the date. Can someone tell me how to pass a date to Oracle from an MVC WebForm? Is there some sort of type cast needed? I would really appreciate an example too. Thanks so much! ps, I did try changing the parm type to Varchar2 in the Pl/Sql and doing some conversions myself in the Pl/Sql, the automatic MVC binder was getting in my way, forcing the property of paramInsertedOn.OracleType to DateTime. I tried forcing it to Varchar2, but no luck there either...

  • PL/SQL bulk collect into associative array with sparse key

    - by Dan
I want to execute a SQL query inside PL/SQL and populate the results into an associative array, where one of the columns in the SQL becomes the key in the associative array. For example, say I have a table Person with columns PERSON_ID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY PERSON_NAME VARCHAR2(50) ...and values like: PERSON_ID | PERSON_NAME ------------------------ 6 | Alice 15 | Bob 1234 | Carol I want to bulk collect this table into a TABLE OF VARCHAR2(50) INDEX BY INTEGER such that the key 6 in this associative array has the value Alice and so on. Can this be done in PL/SQL? If so, how?

  • Find the highest number of occurences in a column in SQL

    - by Ronnie
Given this table: Order custName description to_char(price) A desa $14 B desb $14 C desc $21 D desd $65 E dese $21 F desf $78 G desg $14 H desh $21 I am trying to display the whole row where prices have the highest occurances, in this case $14 and $21 I believe there needs to be a subquery. So i started out with this: select max(count(price)) from orders group by price which gives me 3. after some time i didn't think that was helpful. i believe i needed the value 14 and 21 rather the the count so i can put that in the where clause. but I'm stuck how to display that. any help?

  • How can I create a "dynamic" WHERE clause?

    - by TheChange
Hello there, First: Thanks! I finished my other project and the big surprise: now everything works as it should :-) Thanks to some helpful thinkers of SO! So here I go with the next project. I'd like to get something like this: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE field1=content AND field2=content2 ... As you noticed this can be a very long where-clause. tablename is a static property which does not change. field1, field2 , ... (!) and the contents can change. So I need an option to build up a SQL statement in PL/SQL within a recursive function. I dont really know what to search for, so I ask here for links or even a word to search for.. Please dont start to argue about wether the recursive function is really needed or what its disadvanteges - this is not in question ;-) If you could help me to create something like an SQL-String which will later be able to do a successful SELECT this would be very nice! Iam able to go through the recursive function and make a longer string each time, but I cannot make an SQL statement from it.. Oh, one additional thing: I get the fields and contents by a xmlType (xmldom.domdocument etc) I can get the field and the content for example in a clob from the xmltype

  • using FUNCTION instead of CREATE FUNCTION oracle pl/sql

    - by sqlgrasshopper5
I see people writing a function with FUNCTION instead "CREATE FUNCTION". When I saw this usage in the web I thought it was a typo or something. But in Oreilly's "Oracle 11g PL/SQL Programming" by Steven Feurenstein, the author had used the same thing. But I get errors when I execute that. Could somebody explain is it legal usage or not?. Thanks.

  • View a SYS.XMLTYPE returned from an Oracle function, using PL/SQL

    - by caerphilly
I have an Oracle function that dynamically creates an XML document, and returns it in a SYS.XMLTYPE value. I want to run a query from SQL Developer that calls that function and prints the document (either via a select, or dbms_output - I don't care). But all the examples/documentation seem to refer to querying XML columns in tables, and I can't seem to get the syntax right for my particular usage. I'd like something like this: declare x SYS.XMLTYPE; begin x := my_package.my_function(); select x.getclobval() from x; -- doesn't work! end; How can I print out the value of the XML type variable 'x' in the above code?

  • Compare values in each column of two Oracle Types

    - by colinjameswebb
I've been playing around with the pluto-test-framework today, and I'd like to get some existing functions into a test harness with it. I have lots of functions with this type of specification. FUNCTION DO_SOME_STUFF (pOldSchedule IN SCHEDULE_OBJ, pNewSchedule OUT SCHEDULE_OBJ, pLoggerContext IN OUT LOGGER_CONTEXT_OBJ) RETURN NUMBER; It takes pOldSchedule, does some stuff to it, and then returns pNewSchedule. The logger_context just does logging. As part of a test, I'd like to be able to compare the values in each of the columns of the type, without having to write individual IF statements. It'll need to return boolean to signify whether or not pOldSchedule and pNewSchedule match. Any ideas?

  • SQL optimization: deletes taking a long time

I have an Oracle SQL query as part of a stored proc: DELETE FROM item i WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM item_queue q WHERE q.n=i.n) AND NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM tool_queue t WHERE t.n=i.n); A bit about the tables: item contains about 10k rows with an index on the n column item_queue contains about 1mil rows also with index on n column tool_queue contains about 5mil rows indexed as well I am wondering if the query/subqueries can be optimized somehow to make them run faster, I thought that deletes were generally fairly fast

  • How to generate DELETE statements in PL/SQL, based on the tables FK relations?

    - by The chicken in the kitchen
    Is it possible via script/tool to generate authomatically many delete statements based on the tables fk relations, using Oracle PL/SQL? In example: I have the table: CHICKEN (CHICKEN_CODE NUMBER) and there are 30 tables with fk references to its CHICKEN_CODE that I need to delete; there are also other 150 tables foreign-key-linked to that 30 tables that I need to delete first. Is there some tool/script PL/SQL that I can run in order to generate all the necessary delete statements based on the FK relations for me? (by the way, I know about cascade delete on the relations, but please pay attention: I CAN'T USE IT IN MY PRODUCTION DATABASE, because it's dangerous!) I'm using Oracle DataBase 10G R2. Now I have tried to turn from stored procedure to stored function, but the delete statements are not correct: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION deletecascade ( parent_table VARCHAR2, parent_table_owner VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS cons_name VARCHAR2 (30); tab_name VARCHAR2 (30); tab_name_owner VARCHAR2 (30); parent_cons VARCHAR2 (30); parent_col VARCHAR2 (30); delete1 VARCHAR (500); delete2 VARCHAR (500); delete_command VARCHAR (4000); AT_LEAST_ONE_ITERATION NUMBER DEFAULT 0; CURSOR cons_cursor IS SELECT constraint_name, r_constraint_name, table_name, constraint_type FROM all_constraints WHERE constraint_type = 'R' AND r_constraint_name IN (SELECT constraint_name FROM all_constraints WHERE constraint_type IN ('P', 'U') AND table_name = parent_table AND owner = parent_table_owner) AND delete_rule = 'NO ACTION'; CURSOR tabs_cursor IS SELECT DISTINCT table_name FROM all_cons_columns WHERE constraint_name = cons_name; CURSOR child_cols_cursor IS SELECT column_name, position FROM all_cons_columns WHERE constraint_name = cons_name AND table_name = tab_name; BEGIN FOR cons IN cons_cursor LOOP AT_LEAST_ONE_ITERATION := 1; cons_name := cons.constraint_name; parent_cons := cons.r_constraint_name; SELECT DISTINCT table_name, owner INTO tab_name, tab_name_owner FROM all_cons_columns WHERE constraint_name = cons_name; delete1 := ''; delete2 := ''; FOR col IN child_cols_cursor LOOP SELECT DISTINCT column_name INTO parent_col FROM all_cons_columns WHERE constraint_name = parent_cons AND position = col.position; IF delete1 IS NULL THEN delete1 := col.column_name; ELSE delete1 := delete1 || ', ' || col.column_name; END IF; IF delete2 IS NULL THEN delete2 := parent_col; ELSE delete2 := delete2 || ', ' || parent_col; END IF; END LOOP; delete_command := 'delete from ' || tab_name_owner || '.' || tab_name || ' where (' || delete1 || ') in (select ' || delete2 || ' from ' || parent_table_owner || '.' || parent_table || ');' || deletecascade (tab_name, tab_name_owner); INSERT INTO ris VALUES (SEQUENCE_COMANDI.NEXTVAL, delete_command); COMMIT; END LOOP; IF AT_LEAST_ONE_ITERATION = 1 THEN RETURN ' where COD_CHICKEN = V_CHICKEN AND COD_NATION = V_NATION;'; ELSE RETURN NULL; END IF; END; / Please assume that V_CHICKEN and V_NATION are the criteria to select the CHICKEN to delete from the root table: the condition is: "where COD_CHICKEN = V_CHICKEN AND COD_NATION = V_NATION" on the root table.
