  Hello Ive a website that create avatars for users and provide them with link for avatar to use it in their website or singuters etc , my problems is the website based on flash . the main page has 1 swf file that load other swfs used to create avatars , if someone knows the link for the these swf files he can download them which means he can have all the website lets say: www.test.com as main page which load main swf and other swfs files which located at www.test.com/resources/flash/swffiles/file1.swf anyone can grap these files and have all the website which is a big security breach ive trying so many way protect these files from not download but protecting them means the main swf cant talk to them and cant load the main page correctaly , any suggestion for these .. thanks in advance

• How to protect HtmlHelper code in MVC controls

  I am writing a custom mvc control (commercial), and all of the control's code lives in the custom htmlhelper code that i will have to distribute to the user. I am ok with this for my commercial license sale, but for evaluating the controls, if i give out the htmlhelper code locally for my potential customers to evaluate, the user can simply "get" all the code and hence he may never buy it since he's got teh control code. How do i protect my htmlhelper code while somebody is evaluation my cusotm mvc controls? Is this a general problem or (I wish) i am missing something here? Thanks.

  I would need to create a php file that will do some work on my webserver and that will be called from a program on another server over the internet. Suppose the php file that will do the work is located at www.example.com/work.php What is the best way to protect unsollicited calls to the www.example.com/work.php? What I need is some mechanism so that when the intended program accesses the url (with some query string parameters), the work gets done, but if somebody type www.example.com/work.php in their browser, access will be denied and no work will be done. The way I've thought is to add some 'token' in the querystring that would be constructed by some algorithm from the calling program, a sample result could be to append to the url : ?key=randomKeyAtEachCall&token=SomeHexadecimalResultCalculatedFromTheKey and the key and token would be validated with a reverse algorithm on the php side. Is that safe, Are there any better idea?

  Hi, here is the problem case i am writing a little third party library. In this library i have a class like this public class TestClass { public int TestField { get; private set; } public TestClass( ) { TestField = 1; } } Then i have a varialbe form this class like this public TestClass test = new TestClass( ); The problem i am facing is that usnig reflection like this PropertyInfo field = typeof( TestClass ).GetProperty( "TestField" ); field.SetValue( test, 2, null ); programers can change internal value of this class. this will be very bad thing becouse it can crash the hole library. My question is what is the best way to protect my code form such changes.I know i can use some kind of bool flag so tha value can be changed only ones but this is not very good salution is there a better one?   I am using the default web server for WinCE 6 and wish to password protect certain folders. The default VROOT /remoteadmin/ is password protected, and this works but my configuration doesn't work. I have tried mimicking these settings on my own folders but to little success. Here is how one looks: In the HKLM\Comm\HTTPD\VROOTS key I have created a subkey called /web/configuration (this folder actually exists on the box). The following values are in this key A = 1 DefaultPage = config.html Path = /hard disk/webroot/web/configuration/ UserList = ADMIN This is nigh on identical to the settings in /RemoteAdmin/ but /RemoteAdmin/ requests a password and /web/configuration doesn't (even after reboot).

• Outlook 2007 Backup to D:\Outlook Fails - Access Denied, Write-Protected or File In Use

  I can successfully save the Outlook PST file to the default location on the C drive (C:\Documents and Settings\user\ ... \Outlook) but when I change the backup save to directory to Outlook on the D drive I get the error: Cannot copy Outlook: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I suppose it is not that crucial that I save this file here, but I have never seen this problem before and I have made this same change in the past. I did some searching in this knowledge exchange as well as elsewhere on changing permissions, etc, but this didn't help. I discovered that the folder on my D drive (called Outlook) is not write-protected and nor is it read-only, as I can save to and modify files in that directory, as well as rename and delete the directory itself. At the time when I installed this version of Outlook, I used a previously saved Personal Folder (a backup PST file) and I thought having this still open in Outlook was causing the trouble. But I closed it and still have the same problem. I know this is probably a silly error on my part but I would like to figure it out. I'm new to superuser, but the answers I see are usually very good, so I thought I would post my first question. Thanks in advance.

• Symantec Endpoint Protection Virus Definitions

  I have done some Googling but I cannot get a definitive answer certainly not from the Symantec KB. I have a Virtualised Win 2003R2 server 32bit. It has been provisioned to me with Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.62xxx CLIENT (not a definitions server) the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs is 750MB IT doesn't contain .tmp directories so it is NOT a corrupt definitions server. IT does contain directories named with a date pattern YYYYMMDD.xxx Some of these folders are 12 months old and I would like to recover the space. The sysmantect forums are full of this stuff but a lot of the postings contain links back to documents that are not specific to End Point Protection Client. It appears that I should be able to delete the older folders and all will be OK. with a service restart however there is a warning about having Live Update Administrator Installed Firstly I have no idea if I have this installed how to I check and secondly can I just ditch these old files and restart ? I have followed some instructions found on the Symantec site and assumed that the response from Nixphoe would resolve my issue. It appears that as I am on a provisioned VM from a central IT unit I cannot run the Symantec commands from the Run prompt as my admin creds to get me in. (smc -stop) Basically I need to claw back some Diskspace from the c: drive which is being filed up with WSUS patches and Symantec files. I have managed to delete one symantec cache through the live update control panel and recovered 470Mb I suppose my last question for those more experienced than myself is, can I simply remove say the two oldest virus definition folders without completely foobaring the End Point protection and the server ? • Disable write-protection on Micro SD

  My task today is to open up and copy some files to 700 brand new micro SD cards. As I get going on this task I am finding that some of the Micro SD cards are telling me "sorry this drive is write protected" To copy the files I am using a standard SD to micro SD card adapter, and a USB SD card reader / writer. I have ensured that the switch is set to OFF on all of my adapters. As soon as I get a Micro SD that tells me it is write protected I can use the same adapter with another micro SD and it works fine, so I know the problem is not with my adapters. My question is: How can I disable the write protection on a Micro SD card? This eHow article seems to indicate that there is also a physical switch on Micro SD cards. However I have personally never seen a Micro SD with a physical switch, and none of the ones I am using today have said switch. Since these cards are brand new and thus empty are the ones that are telling me they are write protected simply useless? Could this be caused by some sort of defect in the cards?

• Running SEP scans with the SYSTEM account

  I need to run Symantec Endpoint Protection scans on Windows 7 systems using the SYSTEM account. I know that I can run DoScan.exe to manually run a scan, and this works fine using a regular user account. Unfortunately, when I try to run DoScan as SYSTEM, the application exits immediately without running a scan. Is there a way that I can get this to work, or another application besides DoScan.exe that I should be using?

  My flash USB is write protected and I've tried every possible methods I've encountered over the internet, to get rid of this. Accessing the usb is not working. Format from my computer, is not working. Clear attributes with DiskPart is not working (can't be cleaned, Current Read-only State is Yes but Readonly is set to false... With Disk Management, I can't delete the partition... Is there any other method... With a specific software or somehow? Edit : I tried this on Windows 8.1.

  I have a SanDisk Cruser Blade USB stick that suddenly seems to be write protected. I tried running DiskPart but after I write the command "attributes disk clear readonly" it displays this: Microsoft DiskPart version 5.1.3565 ADD - Add a mirror to a simple volume. ACTIVE - Marks the current basic partition as an active boot partition. ASSIGN - Assign a drive letter or mount point to the selected volume. BREAK - Break a mirror set. CLEAN - Clear the configuration information, or all information, off the disk. CONVERT - Converts between different disk formats. CREATE - Create a volume or partition. DELETE - Delete an object. DETAIL - Provide details about an object. EXIT - Exit DiskPart EXTEND - Extend a volume. HELP - Prints a list of commands. IMPORT - Imports a disk group. LIST - Prints out a list of objects. INACTIVE - Marks the current basic partition as an inactive partition. ONLINE - Online a disk that is currently marked as offline. REM - Does nothing. Used to comment scripts. REMOVE - Remove a drive letter or mount point assignment. REPAIR - Repair a RAID-5 volume. RESCAN - Rescan the computer looking for disks and volumes. RETAIN - Place a retainer partition under a simple volume. SELECT - Move the focus to an object. It's like when you type help at the DiskPart prompt, so how do I get past this? This problem started when I plugged the stick into a laptop which had viruses, if that's any help.

• Cannot write, format, nor erase flash drive

  I have a 4gig flash drive, which I can read from but not write on, erase, nor format in any computer (tried in 7 different computers including xp, vista, and win7). I want to erase all the data inside because it is useless. Once I erase something, it erases it and gives me an error that it can't find the file. Once I refresh the folder, the file comes back. I tried holding Shift + Del. I also tried to use the command to format it in safe mode, but it says "access denied". I don't have a write protection button or whatever it is on my flash drive. It's just a simple small 4 gig one.

  My USB flash drive is currently unusable because it somehow (quite suddenly!) became write protected. I have googled around and tried many solutions to this problem, but none of them have worked so far. Here are some of the solutions I've tried: The drive has no tangible switch or button. Formatting the drive won't work, even in command line, even "low level formatting", because the drive is (after all) write protected. Changing certain registry keys to 0 doesn't seem to work. Repair_Neo2.9.exe says "USB Flash Disk not found!" One factor that may make it more difficult to find a solution: I have no idea what the make or model is, because I received the USB flash drive from my university as a gift. So if anyone knows how to find the make and model, that alone might be helpful. Any ideas? Thanks.

  Recently I have read about Myows, described as "the universal copyright management and protection app for smart creatives". It is used to protect copyright and more. Currently I am working on a large web application which is in late testing phase. Because of the complexity of the app there are not many versions of it online so copyright will be a huge issue for me as much of the code is in JavaScript and is easy copyable. I was glad to see that there is some company out there that provide such services, and naturally I wanted to know if there were people using it. I did not know that this type of concept was so new. Is protecting copyright a good idea for a large web application? If so, do you think Myows will be worth using, or are there better ways to achieve that? Update: Wow, there is no better person to have answered this question like the creator himself. There were some nice points made in the answer, and I think it will be a good service for people like me. In the next couple of weeks I will be looking further into the subject and start uploading my code and see how it works out. I will leave this question up because I do want some more suggestions on this topic.

I first hide the form using JQuery and with a little CSS the form is display just where I want it. Within flash I use ExternalInterface.call() to show/hide the form when I need it! ExternalInterface.call("YTUploader.showIt"); The upload process is working great my only problem is that the form can be displayed easily... You just need a tool like firebug and you can use the form wherever you want on my flash app. So I was wandering which will be the best way to 'protect' this form or the best way to limit its access.   This is a variation on an existing question in SO about securing/obfuscating .Net applications in general. I'm developing an API in C# that includes some algorithms I'm keen to protect. I understand no method will be perfect, but what's the generally accepted method for doing this? I'd like my clients to be able to code against the API but I don't want them to reverse engineer what's inside (at least I don't want to make it easy for them). If I obfuscate the code, won't that also obfuscate the API? We're looking at smartAssembly any thoughts comments on the product would be appreciated.

  I am going trough the OWASP Top 10 list of 2007 and 2010. I stumbled upon Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF) this is often called session riding as you let the user usee his session to fulfill your wishes. Now a solution to this is adding a token to every url and this token is checked for every link. For example to vote on product x the url would be: 'http://mysite.com?token=HVBKJNKL' This looks like a solid solution to because a hacker can not guess the token. But I was thinking of the following scenario(I do not know if it is possible): You create a website with an hidden iFrame or div. After that you can load my website in it either using just the normal iFrame or ajax. When you have my website loaded hidden inside your website, and the user has a stored session, the following can be done. You can retrieve the token from the URLS, and still do all the actions needed. Is it possible to do something like this. Or is it not possible to do this cross domain.

• Spring HandlerInterceptor or Spring Security to protect resource

  I've got a basic Spring Security 3 set up using my own login page. My configuration is below. I have the login and sign up page accessible to all as well as most everything else. I'm new to Spring Security and understand that if a user is trying to access a protected resource they will be taken to the defined login page. And upon successful login they are taken to some other page, home in my case. I want to keep the latter behavior; however, I'd like specify that if a user tries to access certain resources they are taken to the sign up page, not the login page. Currently, in my annotated controllers I check the security context to see if the user is logged in and if not I redirect them to the sign up page. I only do this currently with two urls and no others. This seemed redundant so I tried creating a HandlerInterceptor to redirect for these requests but realized that with annotations, you can't specify specific requests to be handled - they all are. So I'm wondering if there is some way to implement this type of specific url handling in Spring Security, or is going the HandlerInterceptor route my only option? • Visual Studio: How to protect file from removal on uninstall

  Folks, I am creating an installer project in Visual Studio. This is done using a project of type "Setup and Deployment". I lay out the file structure of my final install in the "File System" View of the project. Now, some of the files I create as part of my install are updated while my application is used. I would like these files to not be removed during an uninstall of my application. Is there any way in Visual Studio to designate a file as "protected from uninstall"? Thanks for your help.
