  • cloud/grid computing

    Hi guys. I'm appologizing in advance to the guys who will tell me this isn't a tech/server/IT issue! But I've been beating my head around this for a couple of days now. I'm trying figure out who to talk to, or which company I can approach to try to see if there are Grid/Cloud Computing companies who have programs setup to deal with colleges. I'm dealing with a compsci course, and we're looking at a few projects that would require a great deal of computing/computational resources. But in calling different companies (HP/Rackspace/etc..) I'm either not getting through to the right depts, or to the right people, or the companies just aren't setup for this. There are plenty of companies who have discounts for desktop software/hardware, but who in the biz deals with discounts/offerings for Cloud/Grid Computing solutions?? Any thoughts/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -tom

  • IMAP and Folder Subscriptions

    Hey guys I'm trying to figure out how folder subscriptions work with IMAP Clients and, in my case, in an Exchange 2007 environment. I have managed to deduce, I think correctly, that the folder subscription settings for individuals are stored centrally on the mailbox (At least, having configured 2 profiles on thunderbird, on 2 different machines, they subscribe to the exact same folders and dont display the exact same ones). The point of this being that I have had 2 or 3 different people in the past day report to me that they are having problems subscribing to certain folders, and having certain folder subscriptions remembered (particularly sub-folders). This is across both Thunderbird 2 and 3. can anyone suggest anything? Tom

  • No sound from Java web applet

    Using Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers on Ubuntu 9.10, I am unable to get any sound out from Java (version 6 update 15) on Runescape or WebSDR. I'm only interested in getting WebSDR working and Runescape was the only other web applet I knew would have sound. Sound does work in a test applet I downloaded when run from the command line so it seems to be a web specific issue. Anyone else encountered or solved this or a similar issue? Are there any better applets out there that I can use to test my sound?

  • Exchange 2010 - Trying to add an additional domain fails

    We're trying to add an additional domain to our existing exchange 2010 box. I'm doing this under our network administrator user which has pretty much every permission but i'm getting: VERBOSE: Connecting to EXCHANGE01.isd.isdevelopment.co.uk VERBOSE: Connected to EXCHANGE01.isd.isdevelopment.co.uk.   • I can access \\server via explorer but a program wont

    From ServerA I can access \\ServerB\Telephony\Files\abcdefgh.pdf using windows explorer. From the same ServerA when I try to access the same file on ServerB using a program (a program that imports files from csv file) I get "File Not Found" error. On \\ServerB\Telephony\ the Share is on and I added the service account that I used to log in to ServerA. I am clueless. Please suggest. (oh, it's a Windows 2008 R2 Server) (btw, I did try IP Address, FQDN but works with Explorer but CVS Importer wont read the path. At one time, I did get Access Denied but I dont get access denied anymore after adding the service account to the share. firewalls are off on the servers) Update: I go to My Computer Network I see many servers but ServerB is not in the list..

  • Iptables mark incoming packet - vpn routing

    I have connected my home to my workplace for out of house backup reasons through openvpn. The connection is working nicely. At work I have 5 fixed IP addresses. Now I would like to assign one of these IP addresses to be forwarded to my home machine. I have confirmed packet arrival at my home machine with tcpdump. The problem is that my default route at home is NOT the tun0 (naturally), but eth0 to my own ISP. So I created a separate routing table to route my tun0 packets back to where they belong, but do not how to mark the incoming packet which arrive through tun0 with iptables, so I can drive them back. I do not want any port restrictions, but only what comes from tun0 should leave through tun0 thanks tom

  • Varnish does not start properly (crashes after startup) with no error messages

    I am running Varnish (2.0.4 from the Ubuntu unstable apt repository, though I have also used the standard repository) in a test environment (Virtual Machines) on Ubuntu 9.10, soon to be 10.04. When I have a working configuration and the server starts successfully it seems like everything is fine, however if, for whatever reason, I stop and then restart the varnish daemon it doesn't always startup properly, and there are no errors going into syslog or messages to indicate what might be wrong. If I run varnish in debug mode (-d) and issue start when prompted then 7 times out of time it will run, but occasionally it will just shut down 'silently'.   • What causes Mac OS X Permission errors?

    This is out of interest rather then looking for a fix to a problem. What actually causes permissions on Mac OS X Systems to become messed up? Its an easily fixed problem (i.e. there's a quick and easy fix via Disk Utility) but its something I'd encountered a few times doing support in a Mac-reseller store without actually understanding the causes. I'd guess that part of it is due to some applications not playing nicely, but what else might be the source of this issue?

  • Hiding UITabBar when rotating device iPhone

    Has anyone successfully hidden a UITabbar when rotating the device? I have one view in the UItabbar controller that i rotate (So effectively one tab that rotates) When this happens i want the tab bar to disappear... but nothing seems to work! Either the tabbar still remains visible Or it disappears along with the view Or the tabbar disappears and the view no longer rotates! So if anyone has successfully accomplished this task any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Tom

    Hi, I am getting the error; Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() [function.mysql-real-escape-string]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) Why do I get this error? The mysql_real_escape_string() works on all of my pages apart from one? Is it something to do with MySQL being on a different server to the PHP server - if so, how do I fix it? Thanks Tom

    Hi. Evaluating Tinymce. I've looked at the docs/source/api, and have a question that I thought I'd pose to the stackoverflow group. Has anyone implemented Tinymce, who can tell me it it's possible to setup Tinymce to restrict a user, allowing the user to only "view" a text file, and be able to add additional buttons to the save/cancel row of buttons..     Hi, in the faq, i read this "..the agent can also support MIB modules implemented in perl or (from 5.4) python." I have built net-snmp with python support, but it's not clear yet how to actually implement my own MIB module with python now. The python scripts i see in the python directory are related to implementing an snmp client, not an snmp agent. Probably i just miss the point somewhere.     Hi, I'm absolutely confused with how to create the customized QTextDocument. I have the widget QWidget, which consists of some QLabels, QTableWidgets and QWidgets and I want to print it . I decided to create the new QTextDocument and insert in it all the defined widgets. I have already tried QTextCursor-insertBlock and insertText but my problem is how to define QTextBlockFormat or QTextCharFormat and say it, what is its "content", how to insert the widget in it.     I'm no stranger to __get(), and have used it to make some very convenient libraries in the past. This code would call the view and display it: <?php require_once("View.php"); use test\View; $view = new View("views/myview.php", array("user" => "Tom")); $view->display(); ?> My goal for this code is to allow the view "myview.php" to contain code like this: <p> Hello <?php echo $user; ?>! Your E-mail is <?php echo $email; ?> </p> And, used with the above code, this would output "Hello Tom! Your E-mail is ?? email ??" However, this won't work. The view is being included within a class method, so when it refers to $user and $email, it's looking for local function variables -- not variables belonging to the View class. For this reason, __get never gets triggered. I could change all my view's variables to things like $this-user and $this-email, but that would be a messy and unintuitive solution. I'd love to find a way where I can reference variables directly WITHOUT having PHP throw an error when an undefined variable is used. Thoughts? Is there a clean way to do this, or am I forced to resort to hacky solutions?
