  • snort analysis of wireshark capture

    I'm trying to identify trouble users on our network. ntop identifies high traffic and high connection users, but malware doesn't always need high bandwidth to really mess things up. So I am trying to do offline analysis with snort (don't want to burden the router with inline analysis of 20 Mbps traffic). Apparently snort provides a -r option for this purpose, but I can't get the analysis to run. The analysis system is gentoo, amd64, in case that makes any difference. I've already used oinkmaster to download the latest IDS signatures. A item can have a lot of states: NORMAL = 0000000 DRY = 0000001 HOT = 0000010 BURNING = 0000100 WET = 0001000 COLD = 0010000 FROZEN = 0100000 POISONED= 1000000 A item can have some states at same time but not all of them Is impossible to be dry and wet at same time. If you COLD a WET item, it turns into FROZEN. If you HOT a WET item, it turns into NORMAL A item can be BURNING and POISON Etc. I have tried to set binary flags to states, and use AND to combine different states, checking before if it is possible or not to do it, or change to another status. Does there exist a concrete approach to solve this problem efficiently without having an interminable switch that checks every state with every new state? It is relatively easy to check 2 different states, but if there exists a third state it is not trivial to do.

  • Separate urls for a set of pages sharing 80% duplicate content

    Issue: Currently my site has one particular page which has country specific data. So I've URLs like : mysite.com/sale-united-states mysite.com/sale-united-kingdom mysite.com/sale-sweden etc. All these pages have 80-90% common content and 10-20% country specific content. currently all these pages canonically point to mysite.com/sale-united-states. The problem is when someone searches for "sale Sweden", Google correctly shows mysite.com/sale-united-states page, which does not feel correct as it shows US page instead of Sweden. Now I'm thinking of not using canonical url so that country specific urls are produced in Google saerch. But I'm not sure how 80% duplicate content is going to affect SEO? What should be the recommended approach for this situation? A friend of mine suggested a "separate subdomain per country" based approach but it seems overkill for one page.

  • What is a good java data structure for storing nested items (like cities in states)?

    I'm just getting started in Java and am looking for advice on a good way to store nested sets of data. For example, I'm interested in storing city population data that can be accessed by looking up the city in a given state. (Note: eventually, other data will be stored with each city as well, this is just the first attempt at getting started.) The current approach I'm using is to have a StateList Object which contains a HashMap that stores State Objects via a string key (i.e. HashMap<String, State>). Each State Object contains its own HashMap of City Objects keyed off the city name (i.e. HashMap<String, City>).     Hi, I've stumbled in a problem handling the \line-feed and \carriage-return characters in xml. I know that, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends, xml processors are required to replace any "\n\r" or lone "\r" sequences with "\n". The specification states that this has to be the behaviour for handling any "external parsed entity", does this apply to CDATA sections inside of an element as well? thank you, Michele I'm sure that msxml library for example converts every \n\r" or lone "\r" sequences to "\n", regardless of their being in a cdata section or not.

  • Explicitly persist states in Workflow 4.0 rather than everything.

    I have ran into an issue with my SQL instance store attached to a WorkflowApplication that is running. When I exit my application I'm calling an Unload() on the WF app to persist it. I didn't think about it during design time, but it does makes sense, it's persisting an arg that was passed in to the WorkflowApplication constructor when instanced. When the application runs, everything in the workflow works as expected. When I call Unload() I get an unhandled exception that states that the arg is not serializable and needs [DataContractAttribute]. What's passed into the workflow is my applications custom logger object that I wrote so that the WF can log to disk in a uniform way that I prefer. How do I prevent the workflow app from persisting this one argument and persist everything else? I'm sure something can be done with extensions but I'm having a hard time finding info on them or finding persistence examples for my scenario.

    In Expression Blend 4, I want to change the Foreground of a custom button on different states. I'm just able to change the Background and BorderBrush. Just like this: If the state is "Normal", the color of text "Button" is Black, while the state is "Pressed", the color of text "Button" is White. On Brushes Panel under Properties Panel, there're 3 properties but no Foreground property: Who can help me? I'm so perplexed. Edit I find ContentControl have a Foreground property, but ContentPresenter haven't. Wether I should use ContentControl instead of ContentPresenter?

  • Any way to disable specific CPU idle (Cx) states?

    I just got a new Toshiba Tecra S11 notebook, which has a Core i5 520M CPU, and it appears to suffer from a well-known problem: a high pitched noise when the CPU is idle. Googling around revealed that this is caused by a specific power-saving mode in the CPU. In most cases, C4 mode is blamed for the noise. So my question is: is it possible to disable C4 mode (or any other "sleep" mode) using some utility or BIOS setting? I don't mind if it hurts battery life. I'd appreciate any advice on this matter. It's driving me crazy. FYI: I'm running Windows 7 64-bit

  • What is the exact difference between MEM_RESERVE and MEM_COMMIT states?

    As I understand it MEM_RESERVE is actually 'free' memory, ie available to be used by my process, but just hasn't been allocated yet? Or it was previously allocated, but had since been freed? Specifically, see in my !address output below how I am nearly out of virtual address space (99900 KB free, 2307872 as MEM_PRIVATE. But the states shows that 44.75% of that is actually MEM_RESERVE.     I've been trying to pass a LuaTable class between two Lua states, like so: LuaManager L1 = new Lua(); LuaManager L2 = new Lua(); LuaTable table = L1.DoString("return {apple = 25}")[0]; L2["tbl"] = table; double results = L2.DoString("return tbl[\"apple\"]")[0]; Assert.AreEqual(25.0, results); The above test fails; I receive a return value of nil. Using the Immediate Window confirms that "table" is a non-null object, and that table["apple"] returns 25; it's something that's being lost in translation to L2. Interestingly, when the object is loaded back into the same state, the test works, like so: //Succeeds LuaManager lua = new Lua(); LuaTable table = lua.DoString("return {apple = 25}")[0]; lua["tbl"] = table; double results = lua.DoString("return tbl[\"apple\"]")[0]; Assert.AreEqual(25.0, results); How can I safely pass the LuaTables without hassles?   • jquery html attribute not working in IE

    I am using country and state dropdowns in my form. Whenever the user selects the country in the dropdown, the respective states of the country will populate in the states dropdown. I am populating the states in the dropdown using ajax call. The problem is that the states get populated in Mozilla but it doesnt work in IE. I guess there is some problem in jquery while loading the states in the states dropdown.
