  • How to use a variable in a function expression which is injected in a page?

    - by anonymous
    I'm trying to inject a function into a webpage via Chrome extension content script by: function inject(code) { var actualCode = '(' + code + ')();'; var script = document.createElement('script'); script.textContent = actualCode; (document.head||document.documentElement).appendChild(script); script.parentNode.removeChild(script); } var myObj = person; // myObj/person is passed in from elsewhere var fn = function() { alert(myObj.name); }; inject(fn); // myObj undefined My issue is, since fn is a function expression, I can't pass in myObj.personName. So my question is, how can I construct a function expression that includes a variable? Do I do some sort of string concatenation instead? I also tried to pass the object to the function, as follows: function inject(code, myObj) { var actualCode = '(' + code + ')(' + myObj +');'; ... But this did not work, and caused a "Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier" error. Related: Building a Chrome Extension - Inject code in a page using a Content script

  • JS: Storing dynamic variables across pages?

    - by user2467599
    I've been looking into local storage options and plugins like Persist.js, sessvars.js, and even sisyphus.js - but I am unsure if any are the best fit (though I'm fairly certain I need to use one). Page one is a form with input fields for data like names, phones, and email. I have a button that replicates a wrapper div (and it's inputs) as long as more inputs are needed. When the form is filled the user hits submit which takes them to a 'confirmation' type php page. I need to the give the user an 'edit' button on page 2 that takes them back to page 1 and leaves all the info alone. For the most part everything returns fine, but if the user had hit the 'replicate' button before submission, and then hits edit afterwards, all the inputs that were dynamically generated return empty and the div no longer exists. Someone suggested that my variables are not persistent (when the replicate button is hit, input with an id="name1" becomes "name2" and so on) so that's when I found out about the plugins mentioned before. Is there a way that I can implement one of those plugins (or any other method) so that when the user returns to page one the div and it's input values remain unchanged? And if I'm on the right track are there any examples?

  • How to resize div element less than its content?

    - by andDaviD
    I have a table and there is a TreeView in a cell. Here is my code: <style> #leftPanel { width:60px; height:'100%'; border:1px solid red; background:yellow; } <style> <table> <tr> <td> <div id="leftPanel"> <asp:PlaceHolder runat="server" ID="TreeView" /> <%-- Here is a TreeView --%> </div> </td> </tr> <%-- other code --%> <table> $(function () { $('#leftPanel').resizable( { handles: 'e, w' }); }); I can't reduce the size of my div less then the size of my TreeView. What code need I write to allow leftPanel to be less than the size of TreeView ? It is necessary if TreeView node's text too long.

  • while(0=0) evaluates to false

    - by paque
    b=10; while(a=b) { b--; if(b==-10)break; } B goes from 10 to -10. In my world, the while-statement, a=b, should always be true (since the assigment always "goes well"). That is not the case. When the loop stops, b will have a value of 0. In my world, it should pass 0 and go all the way to -10, when the if-statement kicks in. Have I misunderstood something major? (Code tested in IE8 and Adobe Acrobat)

  • Change axes of google chart without refresh?

    - by Mike Kriess
    If I was using the following: https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/annotatedtimeline Assuming I did not have the line: data.addColumn('number', 'Sold Pencils'); or anything referring to 'Sold Pencils'; How do I make it such that when the user clicks an external link 'Sold Pencils' I am able to retrieve the data and add it to the graph (without the user refreshing the page). Is there some way to redraw the graph/add the column in this way?

  • Multiple Regex on String

    - by George
    How can I apply multiple regexs to a single string? For instance, a user inputs the following into a text area: red bird blue cat black dog and I want to replace each carriage return with a comma and each space with an underscore so the final string reads as red_bird,blue_cat,black_dog. I've tried variations in syntax along the lines of the following so far: function formatTextArea() { var textString = document.getElementById('userinput').value; var formatText = textString.replace( new RegExp( "\\n", "g" ),",", new RegExp( "\\s", "g"),"_"); alert(formatText); }

  • Advantages of createElement over innerHTML?

    - by oninea
    In practice, what are the advantages of using createElement over innerHTML? I am asking because I'm convinced that using innerHTML is more efficient in terms of performance and code readability/maintainability but my teammates have settled on using createElement as the coding approach. I just wanna understand how createElement can be more efficient.

  • How do you stop a dynamically loaded form from submitting with jquery?

    - by Zak
    I'm working on an AJAX login system. Right now, when the user clicks on a link, the login form is dynamically loaded when the person clicks on a "log in" link. Since I'm using AJAX for this, I want to prevent the form from actually submitting when the submit button is clicked. I tried the following code as part of my load function, and the form loads correctely, but the form still submits normally. $('#loginBox').load('loginform.php'); $('#loginBox form').submit(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); }); How can I fix this?

  • Using jQuery.get with a file up a directory?

    - by gct
    I'm using jQuery to write a simple utility app that's just run locally. It'll read from a list of files using jQuery.get and then display them along with some meta-data (which resides in a separate file). The images and meta files live in ../scored_images/*.[jpg|meta] I can load the file list with jQuery.get just fine (it's in the current directory), and I can load up the images and display them without a problem. However when I go to load the meta file for display, jQuery.get seems to silently fail. I can load them fine if the path doesn't have ../ in it. Is there a way to work around this behavior?

  • Speed up :visible:input selector avoiding filter

    - by macca1
    I have a jQuery selector that is running way too slow on my unfortunately large page: $("#section").find(":visible:input").filter(":first").focus(); Is there a quicker way to select the first visible input without having to find ALL the visible inputs and then filtering THAT selection for the first? I want something like :visible:input:first but that doesn't seem to work.

  • Issues with simple jQuery image gallery with Colorbox plugin

    - by Chris
    I'm putting together an image gallery for an ecommerce site and wanting to use colorbox to launch larger images. My problem is that image launched in colorbox stays as the first one launched and should reflect the image shown as img#bigpic - the link to the image does appear to be updating correctly. Here's the jQuery I have: $(document).ready(function(){ $("#largeimage").colorbox(); imageSwapper(".thumbnails a"); function imageSwapper(link) { $(link).click(function(){ $("#bigpic").attr("src", this.href); $("#largeimage").attr("href", this.rel); return false; }); }; $("#largeimage").bind('mouseenter mouseleave', function(event) { $("#largeimage span").toggleClass('showspan'); }); }); ...and the HTML <a href="_images/products/large/bpn0001_1.jpg" id="largeimage"><span></span><img src="_images/products/bpn0001_1.jpg" id="bigpic" /></a> <div class="thumbnails"> <ul> <li><a href="_images/products/bpn0001_1.jpg" rel="_images/products/large/bpn0001_1.jpg"><img src="_images/products/mini/bpn0001_1.jpg" /></a></li> <li><a href="_images/products/bpn0001_2.jpg" rel="_images/products/large/bpn0001_2.jpg"><img src="_images/products/mini/bpn0001_2.jpg" /></a></li> <li><a href="_images/products/bpn0001_3.jpg" rel="_images/products/large/bpn0001_3.jpg"><img src="_images/products/mini/bpn0001_3.jpg" /></a></li> </ul> </div> Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hello, Suppose I have this html markup: <div id="wrapper"> $(function(){ // hide all links except for the first $('ul.child:not(:first)').hide(); $("a.slide:first").css("background-color","#FF9900"); $('ul.parent a.slide').click(function(){ $('ul.parent a.slide').css("background-color","#3399FF"); $('ul.parent a.slide').mouseout(function(){ $(this).css("background-color","#3399FF"); }); $('ul.parent a.slide').mouseover(function(){ $(this).css("background-color","#66CC66"); }); }); }); </div> What is the easiest way to read each line of code present in the div. How do I extract each line of code from that div or loop over each line styling in any way I want. Thanks

  • JQuery performance issue (Or just bad CODING!)

    - by ferronrsmith
    function getItemDialogContent(planItemType) { var oDialogContent = $('<div/>').append($('#cardDialogHelper').html()).addClass("card"); if (planItemType) { oDialogContent.find('#cardDialogHeader').addClass(planItemType).find('#dialogTitle').html(planItemType); oDialogContent.find('#cardDialogCustomFields').html($('#' + planItemType + 'DialogFields').html()); if (planItemType == 'announcement' || planItemType == 'question') { oDialogContent.find("#dialogPin").remove(); } } return oDialogContent; } I am doing some code cleanup for a web application I am working on. The above method lags in IE and most of our user base use IE. Can someone help me. I figure the find() method is very expensive because of the DOM traversal and I am thinking of optimizing. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance :D Been doing some profiling on the application and the following line seems to be causing alot of problems. help me please. is there any way I can optimize ? $('').append($('#cardDialogHelper').html()).addClass("card"); This is the ajax call that does the work. Is there a way to do some of this after the call. Please help me. (Added some functions I thought would be helpful in the diagnosis) GetAllPlansTemp = function() { $.getJSON("/SAMPLE/GetAllPlanItems",processData); } processData = function(data) { _throbber = showThrobber(); var sortedPlanItems = $(data.d).sort("Sequence", "asc"); // hideThrobber(_throbber); $(sortedPlanItems).each(createCardSkipTimelime); doCardStacks(); doTimelineFormat(); if (boolViewAblePlans == 'false') { $("p").show(); } hideThrobber(_throbber); } function createCardSkipTimelime() { boolViewAblePlans = 'false'; if (this.__Deleted == 'true' || IsPastPlanItem(this)) { return; } boolViewAblePlans = 'true'; fixer += "\n" + this.TempKey; // fixes what looks like a js threading issue. var value = CreatePlanCard2(this, GetPlanCardStackContainer(this.__type)); UpdatePlanCardNoTimeLine(value, this); } function CreatePlanCard2(carddata, sContainer) { var sCardclass = GetPlanCardClass(carddata.__type); var editdialog = getItemDialogContent(sCardclass); return $('<div/>').attr('id', carddata.TempKey).card({ 'container': $(sContainer), 'cardclass': sCardclass, 'editdialog': editdialog, 'readonly': GetCardMode(carddata) }); }

  • jquery next() outside of div

    - by mike
    Hi, I'm trying to use next() to toggle a div. The problem is that the "trigger" is in a different div than the one I want to toggle. An example that works: $("span.trigger").click(function(){ $(this).next("div.task_description").slideToggle("fast"); }); <span class="trigger">The trigger</span> <div class="task_description "> some content </div> But the way I need the html setup is: <div> <span class="trigger">The trigger</span> </div> <div class="task_description "> some content </div> That doesn't work... any suggestions?
