  • Learning functional/clojure programming - practical excersises?

    - by Konrad Garus
I'm learning functional programming with Clojure. What practical excersises can you recommend? Online repositories with solutions would be perfect. One idea I can think of is going through all the popular algorithms on sorting, trees, graphs etc. and implementing them in Clojure myself. While it could work, it may be pretty steep and I'm likely to do it inefficiently (compared to someone who knows what she's doing).

  • ASCII Diagram Tool

    - by Jon
I'm looking for an ASCII diagram tool for producing diagrams from text. I only really need sequence and state type diagrams for now, but I'm curious as to what people would recommend? I need something which is standalone, not a web based tool that works on Linux, OSX and Windows.

  • Best FTP wrapper for iPhone

    - by jamone
I know you use the C based networking API to do FTP communication but I'd prefer to use something a little higher level. I've seen a few Objective-C based wrappers but I'm not sure what to use. I don't need that complex of FTP interaction. Its just the typical create/delete dirs, upload/download files... What do you recommend?

  • Pyjamas & JavaScript: Too much recursion

    - by Wraith
I'm doing a Pyjamas example and get this error: TodoApp InternalError: too much recursion Has anyone else encountered this? Some articles around the web recommend adjusting the C++ code of your browser to fix it, but that doesn't seem safe to me.

  • The best Ribbon interface library?

    - by MartinHN
Can anyone recommend a good Ribbon interface library? I can see that Microsoft is (maybe) planning to release a native Ribbon interface library in Windows 7: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20080917/windows-scenic-new-ribbon-based-ui-platform/ But for now, which 3rd party libraries are the best?

  • Validation library PHP / Javascript

    - by pistacchio
Hi, could someone recommend a PHP form validation library (that works independently outside of any php framework) that apart from doing all sort of basic validation (is empty, vs regex, is email, is alphanumeric and so on) can produce javascript code (ideally to work with jquery) to validate the very same form with the very same rules client-side and hence define validation rules in a single place and have a form validated both server and client side? Thanks.

  • Fun programming languages

    - by Jason Baker
What are some fun programming languages to learn and work with? I'm asking this for absolutely no practical purpose other than just to learn something new. So, what are some fun languages? I already know Python and C# so those don't count (although Python would probably be the first language I'd recommend). I've spent some time with Ruby, but I don't really see anything that's a whole lot different from Python. (and no, I'm not going to learn Intercal or Brainf*ck before you mention it)

  • Learning material on SAT (Boolean Satisfiability Problem)

    - by Jules
What are good documents to read on SAT (Boolean satisfiability problem) solvers. I have not been able to find good material via Google. The documents I found were either birds eye view, too advanced or corrupted PDF files... Which papers/documents do you recommend to learn about the algorithms in modern practical SAT solvers?

  • Lightweight Relational database for BlackBerry OS 4.7

    - by Pavel
Hey guys, I'm writing an app for BlackBerry OS 4.7 and would greatly benefit from having a lightweight relational database such as SQLite that my application can use to store data locally on the device. SQLite is coming out with 5.0, which is still in beta. Can anyone recommend any other alternatives that permit commercial use? Additional information: - Concurrent access not required - Transactions not required Thanks in advance :-)

  • The use of Javascript - stats?

    - by Luke
I am looking at redesigning my website and was wondering if I could get some opinions. I know that the rule is usually to design with users without JS first and foremost, but having looked at the stats, it appears 95% of the users online have JS enabled. Would you recommend designing the website using JS and not bothering about people without it?

  • Third party components for both WPF and Silverlight

    - by rem
I tried Xceed datagrid for WPF and liked it, but the problem is that this vendor doesn't have similar control for Silverlight. It seems for me that it's not very convenient to buy it from some another company and have components from different vendors for such close thechnologies as WPF and Silverlight. Could you share your thoughts and experience on this? What whould you recommend?

Are there any good places you can recommend where I can find some helpful information about how to get started with the COM and Windows Services? Thanks in advance!

  • Good Git repository viewer for Mac

    - by Sergio Acosta
Can anyone recommend a good repository viewer for Git, similar to gitk, that works on Mac OS X Leopard? (I'm not saying gitk doesn't work) Of course I would like a native Mac application, but as I haven't found any, what are the best options to gitk? I know about gitview, but I'm looking forward to evaluate as many alternatives as possible. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gitview

    - by Jeff
Is it feasible to use OpenGL ES to create an iPhone raster graphics editor like SketchBook Mobile(http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=13872203)? Any related reference(tutorial, sample) you can recommend? Why I try to use OpenGL ES? Because it's hardware accelerated and cross-platform. Thanks in advance!

  • Anyone know of a Java reporting tools which has a web based visual report designer?

    - by kwyjibo
We're currently evaluating different Java reporting engines, and having a web-based ad-hoc report designer is a requirement. We don't need anything too fancy, but we need users to be able to define a report with columns X, grouped by Y, sorted by Z, etc... We've found that many of the open source tools do have graphical report designers, but the designers are typically not web based. (For example, iReport from JasperReports seems to be an application, not a web tool) Can anyone recommend a reporting tool which meets this web-based requirement?

  • Most popular PHP proxy scripts.

    - by gnucom
Hello, I need to write a proxy script to log into secure servers without ever revealing an administrative password. Can someone recommend some proxy scripts (written in PHP preferably) that I can look into? Thanks! Edit: I would be most interested in well documented scripts... if that matters.
