• VS2010 express beta2 - no add reference dialog, no open file/project dialogs

  Just installed VS2010 express for Windows Phone last night. Install went smoothly. It creates a project, compiles, and deploys the app to the emulator. Here's the problem: When I try to "Add Reference" through the Project menu, I do not get the Add Reference dialog box. Same thing if I right click References in the solution explorer and click Add Reference. That's not all. "File...Open" and "File...Open Project" also fail to throw up an open file dialog box. When attempting any of these actions, the IDE quickly loses and regains focus. Even pressing a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+O) causes the IDE to quickly lose and regain focus, but no open file dialog box appears. This is what I have tried, not particularly in this order: 1. Turned off UAC 2. Monitored file and registry access using Process Monitor during a File...Open operation. File activity showed mostly "SUCCESS" with a few "FAST IO DISALLOWED" and a few "INVALID DEVICE REQUEST" results. Registry activity showed mostly "SUCCESS" with some "NAME NOT FOUND" and a few "BUFFER OVERFLOW" results. 3. Created a new, clean Windows account to run the IDE from 4. Forced a test project to add a reference to "System.Xml.Linq" by editing the ".csproj" project file. Project failed to load in the IDE. I don't have these problems at all on 2 other Windows 7 computers with VS2010 C# express beta 2 installed. One machine is 32bit and the other 64bit, both Home Premium edition. My system: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit Other Visual Studio products installed: VS2008 C# express, VS2008 C++ express One other thing to note: Several months ago I installed the non-phone distribution of VS2010 C# express beta 2, and I had the same exact problems. Back then I chalked it up to being beta and went back to VS2008 C# express, where I do not have these issues.

• Creating Multiple TextFields in runtime AS2

  Hi lads, I have an issue generating multiple text fields in AS2. My AS2 Flash application calls database (via PHP) and then receives XML file that contains a few objects. All I want to do is to loop throught this XML objects and then create a TextField (actually a Component that contains graphics and TextField, but this will come later) based on the information from XML object. I know that I can create something like: _root.createTextField("myText1",1,0,0,100,20); myText1.text = "this is text ONE"; _root.createTextField("myText2",2,0,30,100,20); myText2.text = "this is text TWO"; which will result in 2 text fields, but the problem is when I try to create it dynamicly (e.g. I have item: myNode[0].attributes.name (but when I use it in: _root.createTextField(myNode[0].attributes.name, 1, 0, 0, 100, 20), then I got compile error). var myXML:XML = new XML(); myXML.ignoreWhite=true; myXML.load("tekst.xml"); var tekst:String = new String(); myXML.onLoad = function(success){ if (success){ var myNode = myXML.firstChild.childNodes; for (i=0; i trace("height: "+myNode[i].attributes.height); trace("color: "+myNode[i].attributes.color); trace(myNode[i].firstChild.nodeValue); } } } This actualy traces the values and I can actualy use them when creating the component, but it doesn't create the component that has the same name (obviously both instances point to the same object so the last is only visible).   I have a UITabBarController, and each tab handles a different UIViewController that pushes on the stack new controllers as needed. In two of these tabs I need, when a specific controller is reached, the ability to rotate the iPhone and visualize a view in landscape mode. After struggling a lot I have found that it is mandatory subclassing UITabBarController to override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation. However, if i simply return YES in the implementation, the following undesirable side effect arises: every controller in every tab is automatically put in landscape mode when rotating the iPhone. Even overriding shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation in each controller to return NO does not work: when the iPhone is rotated, the controller is put in landscape mode. I implemented shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation as follows in the subclassed UITabBarController: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if([self selectedIndex] == 0 || [self selectedIndex] == 3) return YES; return NO; } So that only the two tabs I am interested in actually get support for landscape mode. Is there a way to support landscape mode for a specific controller on the stack of a particular tab? • Configuring zend to use gmail smtp: Windows Apache dev-environment: "Could not open socket" error - repeatedly - going mad

  My dev environment is Win XP SP2 / Apache 2.something PHP 5.something_or_other My prod env is Linux Ubuntu / Apache 2.something_else PHP 5.something_or_other_else The code is all Zend Framework Version: 1.11.1 I can telnet to: smtp.gmail.com 465 from the PC. I have Mercury configured on my PC to use gmail as it's smtp host and it works just fine. (MercuryC SMTP Client). Mercury is set to use port 465 and SSL on smtp.gmail.com -- No problem. Zend mail works just fine on my production environment using the production mail server to send out mail. It's the same basic application.ini but with different values in the mail variables. On my local PC dev setup, my application.ini contains: (same values as I use in Mercury) mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "myAccount" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "myPassWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I have been doing trial and error for hours trying to get a single email out with no success. In every case, regardless of server or port settings it throws an error and reports: Could not open socket. Both Apache and Mercury Core are exceptions in my Windows Firewall config. Mercury seems to be having no problem. I have searched stackoverflow before posting this and have been googling for hours -- with no success. I am slowly losing my mind I would be very much obliged for any tip as to what might be wrong.   I would like your comments and suggestion on this. I am doing the pagination for a page in jsf. The datatable is bound to a Backing Bean property through the "binding" attribute. I have 2 boolean variables to determine whether to render 'Prev' and 'Next' Button - which is displayed below the datatable. When either the 'Prev' or 'Next' button is clicked, In the backing bean I get the bound dataTable property and through which i get the "first" and "rows" attribute of the datatable and change accordingly. I display 5 rows in the page. • server/ client server connection

  I have a server side program that creates a listening server side socket. The problem occurring is that it seems as if the client side sends a connect request it gets rejected if the server side socket is listening but connects if the server side program is not running. I can see the server side program getting the client request when debugging. It seems as if the client cannot connect to a listening socket. Any suggestions on a resolution?   Hi everybody, this question might seem stupid, but here's the situation: I'm trying to create an auto login page for my mail using jquery's post request, but it's not working, it works with all other pages except with webmail. I can't figure out why. Anyway, if you can tell me what's the real difference between the input type text and password (and not what it says everywhere on the net that the only difference is that when you type stars appear instead of characters) I would appreciate it. Also, do you think this is affecting my jquery's post? • Is jQuery forcing Adobe ColdFusion to abandon the dead flash product line?

  I have been reading a lot about how flash development/design had died, and as jQuery and in the near future html5 comes out, will this start to push Adobe/Coldfusion away from flash towards less product linking? I mean, I love coldfusion, and want that to continue to grow, however, if Adobe only bought Coldfusion from Macromedia, so they can bundle flash and coldfusion together, does the death of flash mean the death of coldfusion? http://topnews.us/content/221385-jobs-says-adobes-flash-waning-and-had-its-day http://aext.net/2010/03/javascript-jquery-killing-flash-tutorial-jquery-plugin/ I really don't mind if Flash dies, I do mind greatly if coldfusion does. I was only worried that Adobe would cause problems for Coldfusion, if flash had some market/financial problems. That was my main concern... And no I am not anti-flash... • $.ajax not loading data data everytime from server

  I have written a simple jQuery.ajax function which loads a user control from the server on click of a button. The first time I click the button, it goes to the server and gets me the user control. But each subsequent click of the same button does not goes to the server to fetch me the user control. Since my user control fetches data from db, I need to reload the user control everytime i hit the button. But if anyhow I get my user control to unload from the page, and re-click the button, it goes to the server and fetches me the user control. • Interrupting Prototype handler, alert() vs event.stop()

  Here's the test page I'm using. With an alert in the handler: var fn = function() { alert("omg!"); } The form is not submitted. This is awfully curious. With event.stop(), which is supposed to prevent the browser taking the default action: var fn = function(event) { event.stop(); } We are sent to #fail. So alert() is more effective at preventing a submission than event.stop(). What gives? I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 and Prototype 1.6.0.3. This behaviour also appears in Prototype 1.6.1.

• ExtJs getting the FormPanel that is created dynmaically from button click.

  I have Extjs ViewPort panel, that contain center panel, that contain tablpanel, in which I have added gridpanel in one tab, on this I have put 'Add Person' button in tbar of , that will add a new tab of a FormPanel, in its Reset button, I am not able to access Form to reset it. • Getting my head around object oriented programing

  I am entry level .Net developer and using it to develop web sites. I started with classic asp and last year jumped on the ship with a short C# book. As I developed I learned more and started to see that coming from classic asp I always used C# like scripting language. For example in my last project I needed to encode video on the webserver and wrote a code like public class Encoder { Public static bool Encode(string videopath) { ...snip... return true; } } While searching samples related to my project I’ve seen people doing this public class Encoder { Public static Encode(string videopath) { EncodedVideo encoded = new EncodedVideo(); ...snip... encoded.EncodedVideoPath = outputFile; encoded.Success = true; ...snip... } } public class EncodedVideo { public string EncodedVideoPath { get; set; } public bool Success { get; set; } } As I understand second example is more object oriented but I don’t see the point of using EncodedVideo object. Am I doing something wrong? Does it really necessary to use this sort of code in a web app?

• JQuery submit form and output response or error message

  I want to submit form and show message about result. update_records initializes alert_message to error message. If success I expect that its value is changed. Than update_records outputs message. But the function always alerts "Error submitting form". What is wrong with this? • ajax html vs xml/json responses - perfomance or other reasons

  I've got a fairly ajax heavy site and some 3k html formatted pages are inserted into the DOM from ajax requests. What I have been doing is taking the html responses and just inserting the whole thing using jQuery. My other option is to output in xml (or possibly json) and then parse the document and insert it into the page. I've noticed it seems that most larger site do things the json/xml way. Google Mail returns xml rather than formatted html. Is this due to performance? or is there another reason to use xml/json vs just retrieving html? From a javascript standpoint, it would seem injecting direct html is simplest. In jQuery I just do this jQuery.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "getpage.php", data: requestData, success: function(response){ jQuery('div#putItHear').html(response); } with an xml/json response I would have to do jQuery.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "getpage.php", data: requestData, success: function(xml){ $("message",xml).each(function(id) { message = $("message",xml).get(id); $("#messagewindow").prepend(""+$("author",message).text()+ ": "+$("text",message).text()+ ""); }); } }); clearly not as efficient from a code standpoint, and I can't expect that it is better browser performance, so why do things the second way?
