• Can I use some combination of HttpHandler and HttpModule to create an asynchronous file upload?

  I am trying to write a simple asynchronous file upload control for ASP.Net. I've tried a few implementations out there (AjaxControl Toolkit Async Upload, Telerik RadAsyncUpload, AjaxUploader, Uploadify, etc.), but they all leave me wanting something more. I'd rather not use a Flash component, a simple throbber would be OK. Some don't have client side call backs. I figure you can make an http module that checks the request form's enctype and files collection on BeginRequest and save those files to disk. Then somehow use an httpHandler to poll the module's status but I can't quite figure out how to put it all together asynchronously. Can you help me arrange the pieces?

• DRY for JMeter tests

  Is there a way to modularize JMeter tests. I have recorded several use cases for our application. Each of them is in a separate thread group in the same test plan. To control the workflow I wrote some primitives (e.g. postprocessor elements) that are used in many of these thread groups. Is there a way not to copy these elements into each thread group but to use some kind of referencing within the same test plan? What would also be helpful is a way to reference elements from a different file. Does anybody have any solutions or workarounds. I guess I am not the only one trying to follow the DRY principle...

• Javascript Back Button - Stop the initial load of back button from working

  Hi, I'm using a javascript back button link and forward button link to control the user's history inside a modal/lightbox window. The challenge I have is when the modal window is launched, and the "back" and "forward" buttons are present for the user to click, if the initial javascript back button is clicked when the window opens, it actually closes the modal window, because the javascript history is taking the user back to the page PRIOR to the opening of modal window. So, in essence, I'm trying to disable the "back" button from working on the initial load of the modal/light box. <a href="javascript:history.go(-1)">Back Button</a> <a href="javascript:history.go(1)">Foward Button</a> Is this possible?

• Combobox in bound DataGridView

  Hi. I've got a DataGridView control which is bound to a database table. I want one of the columns in the gridview to be of combobox type. The combobox should contain a list of hardcoded strings, which is the same for all rows in the datagridview. One of the fields in my database table is an index for this list of hardcoded strings. I've programatically added a new column to the gridview of type "DataGridViewComboBoxColumn", which successfully creates the column with comboboxes in it. However, that's then not bound to the index field in my DB table. The index field in my DB table is actually automatically bound to a column via the DataAdapter::Fill method. I've set this column to hidden, so it's hidden to the user. Obviously just before updating the dataadapter, I can programatically fixup the hidden column in my datatable with the SelectedIndex of my combobox. Just wondering if there's a better way of doing this? Thankyou for any help with this, Dan.

• Custom Application Page does not recognize tagPrefix defined in custom web.config

  I have a custom application page integrated in Centeral Administration. My application pages are placed in a subfolder in Template\Admin folder. I placed my own web.config in my subfolder and added tagPrefixes in the control section. However when I open my application page ASP.NET throws the exception that the tag SharePoint:InputFormTextBox was not recognized. What am I doing wrong? Or it doesn't work this way? What can i do to achieve this?

• Passing parameter map (list of values) to JQuery

  Hello, to initialize a javascript loaded grid, I need to pass a list of values from controller/gsp. Since the javascript is activated once the page is rendered/loaded, there may not be a direct way to do it. 2 possibilities 1. do an ajax call, and retrieve the list of values from the server 2. store the list in html as a hidden element, and read it from javascript. option 2 seems better as it avoids few calls back to server. So, which control should I use for a list of values? Any jQuery code snippet to read it back into array/list. thanks in advance.

  So, I finally gave up on all my previous the Microsoft Mobile/Phone OS devices and made my switch to Android this year. I am using my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with CyanogenMod 9.1.0 (http://get.cm/get/jenkins/7086/cm-9.1.0-n7000.zip) and ClockworkMod 6.0.1.2 (http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-n7000.zip) since August this year and I am so happy with the performance and the flexibility it offers me. As a software developer by profession, I would expect most of my gadget to be highly customizable and programmable (one time or at intervals) to suit my needs as close as it can. I was introduced to Automation for Android – Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en) via reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/tasker) and the word ‘automation’ was enough for me to dive right into this app. Only automation that I did earlier was switching profiles depending on location on there phones. And now, just imagine a complete set of possibilities that can be automate on the phone or via the phone. I did my research and found a couple of other tools that do the same/as close as what Tasker can do and few of them are even free. There’s one even by Microsoft called on{X} (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.onx.app&hl=en). Microsoft’s on{X} really caught my eye. You can write code for your phone on the web application by them, deploy it on your phone and even trace the flow all using your PC. Really brilliant, I love the fact that it’s all JavaScript. Here comes the but, it is still very very young and it’s policy of accessing my News Feed on Facebook is not something that I can not digest. On{X} is good, but as I said earlier, the API is not very mature and hence, I gave up on it. I bought Tasker, the best 5,00 € I spent in ages and I want to talk about it in this post. I am still a “noob” while operating this tool, but I tried my shot at automating WhatsApp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&hl=en), a popular messenger for various platform. The requirement for the automation is that, if I send a WhatsApp ‘wru’ message to the phone, it should respond back giving the location and battery level of my phone. It could be useful, if you like to locate your misplaced phone or automatically reply to your partner/friend, honestly, I don’t know what you will use it - through this post, I am just introducing automating WhatsApp using Tasker. • Checking for & storing multiple CheckBox selections in CSharp.

  I'm very new to CSharp and I can't seem to find a good solution to what I would consider a simple problem. Basically I'm trying to determine which CheckBoxs have been selected by the user and then randomly generate combinations of the selections the user has made. As new as I am, I am aware that you can use a simple statement such as: checkBox1.IsChecked == true I could have a long set of if statements which update an array/collection, but I'm told that in Csharp there is a way of determining which CheckBoxs are checked by querying the GroupBox that the CheckBoxs are in. Unless I'm mistaken (which is very possible) this is achieved by using Control features, unfortunately I've not come across these yet in my learning so if someone could clear things up that would be great. In summation, if someone has a simple solution for running through a set of checkBoxs and storing only the selected ones I would be most grateful.

• How to highlight clicks in app widget?

  Hi everyone, I have an app widget which runs neatly. However, I am unable to highlight a click on a linked item. I've seen it in the standard app widgets like 'Music' and 'Power Control', for instance. Moreover, I've also been studying the Music app widget's source at album_appwidget.xml. The only thing I could think of is the LinearLayout defined at lines 23-35 which states android:clickable="true" Unfortunately, this does not work for me. So does anyone have a hint on how to highlight a click on an app widget? I've tried the LinearLayout, TextView and Button. None of them displayed a border as a highlight. Thanks in advance, Steff

• JKS, CER, SignCode issue

  Currently, I've got an intresting problem about signing an EXE file using the SignCode tool from Microsoft and a certificate (from GlobalSign)... So, we've bought a new certificate as the current one will expire in short time. The original format is JKS. I exported this certificate from .JKS to .CER so I can install on local machine in the Root Trusted Certificates section. I've installed it and if I open the certmgr.msc I can see it, but if I open the Control Panel - Internet Options - Content - Certificates - Root Trusted Certificates etc then I can't see it... I thought it should be here as well. When I run the signcode.exe tool I get the "unable to open a csp provider with the correct private key" error message. Note! The signcode.exe command is correct, because it works if I test with the old certificate. Please advise. Thank you in advance! Serge

  I have an update panel within which a sortable grid is present. While sorting, I have to change an image which shows the sort direction. The sort is an ajax operation initiated by a linkbutton for each column. Everything works fine except the image control. I am able to toggle visible property to show and hide it but, not able to change the ImageUrl property. imagesort.ImageUrl = "~/images/asc.jpg"; imagesort.Visible = true; The above code shows the image but the image is always the imageurl given in the markup not what is set in the code. If imageurl is not specified in the markup, no image(broken image) is shown irrespective of the above code.

  Assume I have an "images" folder directory under the root of my application. How can I, from within a .css file, reference an image in this directory using an ASP.NET app relative path. Example: When in development, the path of ~/Images/Test.gif might resolve to /MyApp/Images/Test.gif while, in production, it might resolve to /Images/Test.gif (depending on the virtual directory for the application). I, obviously, want to avoid having to modify the .css file between environments. I know you can use Page.ResolveClientUrl to inject a url into a control's Style collection dynamically at render time. I would like to avoid doing this.

• Silverlight authentication during startup - how to mimic syncronous behavior?

  I have a Silverlight app that is using the MVVM pattern. I have a WCF service which will allow me to authenticate users (I don't have direct control over that service - assume it is a black box that just returns me the user info and a list of privileges the user has). So, when the app starts up, I want to pull security data from that service. Right now, when I do this, my views and view models can end up getting initialized before the service returns with the security data. This causes problems because the view models need to disable buttons and make things visible/invisible based on the user having certain privileges. Is there a pattern that allows me to prevent the initialization of the views / view models until the WCF call has returned? How would you go about solving this problem as elegantly as possible?

  I keep my source html (and images etc.) in separate directories for source control. Part of making the distro is to have make copy files to output folder and set the attributes. • Implement 3270 protocol in Java

  I've got a big problem with IBM HACL for accessing a server which speaks 3270 protocol. The library keeps crashing, and our JNI wrapper is actually a bug-fixing layer for the poorly-implemented and poorly-documented library (and I suspect we have introduced new bugs with it too). Moreover, in our company, everybody knows Java, and could maintain the software if we didn't have the JNI-Layer and the IBM class library. We have to use the C++ class library, because the IBM Java library is unusable: we get every non-printable character translated, and we lose all control characters along the way. Now the question is: can we ditch this library and implement our solution in Java completely (we'd like to avoid using another library from another vendor)? Is the protocol well documented? Is the implementation of 3270-over-ssl really so complex? Thanks.

• c# winforms - scrollable panel with rectangles

  Hi, I'm new to winforms and have tried to track down an answer to the following with no luck ... I have a panel in winforms and add to it a Rectangle that is wider than the panel itself. I've set the panel AutoScroll property to true however the panels horizontal scrollbar never appears. Why is this? And how do I get the scrollbar to scroll? Here is my code to add the rectangle: private void panel1_Paint(object sender, PaintEventArgs e) { Graphics g = e.Graphics; Rectangle rec = new Rectangle(2, 2, 400, 40); g.DrawRectangle(new Pen(Color.Black), rec); g.FillRectangle(new SolidBrush(Color.Blue), rec); } If I add a Label control to the panel and give it a text value that will go beyond the bounds of the panel - then the autoscroll works, but just not for a rectangle. • Flex: vertical gap between list items not working

I have tried everything from setting the "vertical-gap" property to negative and positive numbers as well as changing the padding-bottom and padding-top on them. I want the buttons to be right up against eachother vertically. I have also tried "button-height" and padding on the List component...still nothing. How do I control this?

  I'm generating the RDLC XML schema and showing the report in the ReportViewer control. No problems there. Now, I want a report with 2 tables, with 2 differents dataset. Something like this gets generated: <Body> <ReportItems> <Table Name="Table1"> .... </Table> <Table Name="Table2"> .... </Table> </ReportItems> </Body> But, when printed, both tables start from the top, printing on table over the other (not nice) Is there a way to tell that Table2 should start after Table1? • Acer aspire 5735z wireless not working after upgrade to 11.10

  I cant get my wifi card to work at all after upgrading to 11.10 Oneiric. I'm not sure where to start to fix this. Ive tried using the additional drivers tool but this shows that no additional drivers are needed. Before my upgrade I had a drivers working for the Rt2860 chipset. • How do I give each test its own TestResults folder?

  I have a set of unit tests, each with a bunch of methods, each of which produces output in the TestResults folder. At the moment, all the test files are jumbled up in this folder, but I'd like to bring some order to the chaos. Ideally, I'd like to have a folder for each test method. I know I can go round adding code to each test to make it produce output in a subfolder instead, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the output folder location with the Visual Studio unit test framework, perhaps using an initialization method on each test class so that any new tests added automatically get their own output folder without needing copy/pasted boilerplate code?
