  • Brilliant features of C++

    - by John
(Following Features to remove from C++ and Desired features for C++, I thought why not complete the trio...) What C++ features would you not change? What features are elegantly and brilliantly implemented and still look better than other popular languages?

  • How to distort the desktop screen

    - by HaifengWang
Hi friends, I want to change the shape of the desktop screen, so what are displayed on the desktop will be distorted at the same time. And the user can still operate the PC with the mouse on the distorted desktop(Run the applications, Open the "My Computer" and so on). I think I must get the projection matrix of the screen coordinate at first. Then transform the matrix, and map the desktop buffer image to the distorted mesh. Are there any interfaces which can modify the shape of the desktop screen in OpenGL or DirectX? Would you please give me some tip on it. Thank you very much in advance. Please refer to the picture from http://oi53.tinypic.com/bhewdx.jpg BR, Haifeng Addition1: I'm sorry! Maybe I didn't express clearly what I want to implement. What I want to implement is to modify the shape of the screen. So we can distort the shapes of all the applications which are run on Windows at the same time. For example that the window of "My Computer" will be distorted with the distortion of the desktop screen. And we can still operate the PC with mouse from the distorted desktop(Click the shortcut to run a program). Addition2: The projection matrix is just my assume. There isn't any desktop projection matrix by which the desktop surface is projected to the screen. What I want to implement is to change the shape of the desktop, as the same with mapping the desktop to an 3D mesh. But the user can still operate the OS on the distorted desktop(Click the shortcut to run a program, open the ie to surf the internet). Addition3: The shapes of all the programs run on the OS are changed with the distortion of the screen. It's realtime. The user can still operate the OS on the distorted screen as usually. Maybe we can intercept or override the GPU itself to implement the effect. I'm investigating GDI, I think I can find some clue for that. The first step is to find how to show the desktop on the screen.

  • How do I preserve installed applications when migrating Ubuntu to another platform?

    - by michaeljoseph
I'm looking at maybe moving from an older AMD64 to a new Intel dual-core which is 32 bit. Installation isn't a problem but can I transfer all the installed apps? I haven't been able to find anything so far on Google except where the migration is to a similar platform and file-system. I won't change the filesystem but the platform will be different. Is there something on the lines of the "World" file in Gentoo?

  • HttpService Vs Remote Objects

    - by kalyaniRavi
Hi, I have a flex application and need to show the real time data into the chatrs and datagrids. Eralier we are used Httpservices to showing the real time data and historical data into charts and datagrids. But now we are going to replace the Httpservices to remote objects. So which places generally need to change. I have a little bit idea about remote objects. Thanks, Ravi

  • WPF: Is VerticalAlignment inherited by nested containers?

    - by zxcvbnm
I'd like to have the nested containers inherit that property, but when I set it in the outermost one I'm not sure if it's working. It either is working but I'm not getting the results I want, or maybe I'd have to set up a property somewhere for it to carry. Assuming that a) it is possible to do it and b) I'd have to change a property somewhere, would that have any side effects I should be aware of?

  • Devise: Allow users to edit their account without providing a password BUT also use 'reconfirmable' functionality

    - by Betjamin Richards
I've been following this how-to in the Devise wiki... How To: Allow users to edit their account without providing a password ...to enable my users to change the account credential and update without providing their existing password. However, I also want to use the Confirmable modules reconfirmable functionality Even though I have config.reconfirmable = true set in my devise initializer file the controller doesn't seem to be sending the reconfirmable emails. Any ideas what's wrong?

  • Deploying patches and new versions.

    - by 0plus1
I'm deveoping a big project, I have the dev folder (connected to a specific subdomain) then the "real" folder, the live one. When I'm ready to push patches or whole new versions I'm currently copying the files individually, is there a program that can help me do this task? Keep in mind that some files (the config one and the htacess) must never change in the live version. Thank you

  • Look for match in a nested list in Python

    - by elfuego1
    Hello everybody, I have two nested lists of different sizes: A = [[1, 7, 3, 5], [5, 5, 14, 10]] B = [[1, 17, 3, 5], [1487, 34, 14, 74], [1487, 34, 3, 87], [141, 25, 14, 10]] I'd like to gather all nested lists from list B if A[2:4] == B[2:4] and put it into list L: L = [[1, 17, 3, 5], [141, 25, 14, 10]] Additionally if the match occurs then I want to change last element of sublist B into first element of sublist A so the final solution would look like this: L1 = [[1, 17, 3, 1], [141, 25, 14, 5]]

  • Where to go from PHP?

    - by dabito
I'm a seasoned PHP programmer and I really like the way it works and find it very fun to work with (performance could be improved and some functions renamed, but nothing too serious). However, I took a java seminar and now Im very interested in using GWT for upcomming projects, although I think the learning curve can be steep. Should I really go through with this change (PHP JAVA)? Where to begin?

  • Disable email when modifying several bugs at once in bugzilla

    - by Jay Paroline
Where I work, we use Bugzilla extensively for bug and feature tracking. We take advantage of the built in milestones to help us manage our timelines better, but sometimes priorities shift and milestones need to be rearranged. During this time we use the "change several bugs at once" feature to move them around, but the result is a ton of bugspam for everyone involved (except the person actually doing the changing, of course). Is there any way to easily turn off emails if many bugs are being changed at once?

  • controlling the class names generated by JAXB for xsd:attributeGroup?

    - by Stephen Winnall
I am using JAXB to bind XML to Java for an application that I am writing. I have an element called measure which contains two amount elements called amount and maxAmount, with which I want to model a lower and an upper limiting value. amount and maxAmount are otherwise identical and I would like them to be implemented with the same class when unmarshalled into Java. The following is an extract from the XML schema which I feed to JAXB: <xsd:attributeGroup name="AmountAttributes"> <xsd:attribute name="quantity" type="xsd:decimal"/> <xsd:attribute name="numerator" type="xsd:nonNegativeInteger"/> <xsd:attribute name="denominator" type="xsd:positiveInteger"/> </xsd:attributeGroup> <xsd:element name="measure"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="amount"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:attributeGroup ref="mpr:AmountAttributes"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="maxAmount"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:attributeGroup ref="mpr:AmountAttributes"/> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> JAXB creates from this a more elaborate version of the following: public class Measure { protected Measure.Amount amount; protected Measure.MaxAmount maxAmount; public static class Measure.Amount {} public static class Measure.MaxAmount {} } Measure.Amount and Measure.MaxAmount are identical except for their names, but - of course - as far as Java is concerned they have little to do with each other. Is there a way of making JAXB use the same class for both amount and maxAmount? Just to come completely clean ;-) I should mention that I generate the XML schema from RNC using Trang. If the answer to the question is "change the XML schema", I have the supplementary question "how do I change the RNC to produce that XML schema?". My RNC looks like this: AmountAttributes = QuantityAttribute? & attribute numerator { xsd:nonNegativeInteger }? & attribute denominator { xsd:positiveInteger }? QuantityAttribute = attribute quantity { xsd:decimal } Measure = element measure { element amount { AmountAttributes }?, element maxAmount { AmountAttributes }? }+ I use RNC because I find it simpler to understand, but if the solution to my problem means just using XML Schema, so be it. • Easiest way to position camera in XNA?

    - by DMan
Everytime I load my model into XNA, I can usually see it far off in the distance. When I change some parameters and make it zoom up close, 10/10 times it's rotated funny and I'm set with the task of rotating it. Is there any easy way to do it except by experimenting? Or am I exporting it wrong (using Blender)? Is there any value I should set the objects in my 3d scene to be before exporting it so they appear 'upright'?

  • Discrete problem of probability theory [closed]

    - by calejero
A jury consists of 12 persons each of which has, before the trial started, a probability of 0.4 to vote in favor of the defendant's innocence. During the trial, the lawyer has a probability of 0.6 to change the mind of each juror who was biased against the accused. How likely is the defendant to be acquitted if he needs 10 votes in favor?

  • per process configurable core dump directory

    - by Hanno Stock
Is there a way to configure the directory where core dump files are placed for a specific process? I have a daemon process written in C++ for which I would like to configure the core dump directory. Optionally the filename pattern should be configurable, too. I know about /proc/sys/kernel/core_name_format, however this would change the pattern and directory structure globally. Apache has the directive CoreDumpDirectory - so it seems to be possible.

  • Good Entity Framework sample applications?

    - by Abdu
I am looking for some good asp.net sample applications which use Entity Framework. I saw a couple apps for NorthWind (one was MVC based). Looking for one with is more sophisticated than the simple apps at MSDN (HRSkillsCombined, CourseManager,AdWksSalesWinDataBind, ResearchCollaborationAssistant). Possibly using Entity Inheritance, multi table change tracking.. etc.
