  • Setup and Deployment does not work

    Hi, I am working on VS 2008 and 3.5 framework. I had three windows services. I placed all three in a single solution, created installer individually for each of them. Then created a setup project. When I build it says build failed . But I checked on the errorlist, (i enabled the diagnostics in options menu), but there was no error at all. I went ahead and installed. There were no issues, But there was no service showed up in the services.msc. I installed each service individually , using installutil command, it showed up. But my requirement is to bundle these services and deploy to the client. The client should install it. Where am I going wrong. Any inputs will be highly appreciated. Regards cmrhema

    Hi, I am pretty new to MVC and I am looking for a way to design my models. I have the MVC web site project and another class library that takes care of data access and constructing the business objects. If I have in that assembly a class named Project that is a business object and I need to display all projects in a view ... should I make another model class Project? In this case the classes will be identical. Do I gain something from doing a new model class? I don't like having in views references to objects from another dll ... but i don't like duplicating the code neither. Did you encounter the same problem?

  • Linq to Entities custom ordering via position mapping table

    Hi, I have a news table and I would like to implement custom ordering. I have done this before via a positional mapping table which has newsIds and a position. I then LEFT OUTER JOIN the position table ON news.newsId = position.itemId with a select case statement CASE WHEN [position] IS NULL THEN 9999 ELSE [position] END and order by position asc, articleDate desc. Now I am trying to do the same with Linq to Entities. I have set up my tables with a PK, FK relationship so that my News object has an Entity Collection of positions. Now comes the bit I can't work out. How to implement the LEFT OUTER JOIN. I have so far: var query = SelectMany (n => n.Positions, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.position) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); This kinda works. However this uses a INNER JOIN so not what I am after. I had another idea: ret = ret.OrderBy(n => n.ShufflePositions.Select(s => s.position)); However I get the error DbSortClause expressions must have a type that is order comparable. I also tried ret = ret.GroupJoin(tse.ShufflePositions, n => n.id, s => s.itemId, (n, s) => new { n, s }) .OrderBy(x => x.s.Select(z => z.position)) .ThenByDescending(x => x.n.articleDate) .Select(x => x.n); but I get the same error! If anyone can help me out, it would be much appreciated!

I have a working solution, but the code to do it is way too complicated and circular I think: I have a timesheet application in MVC 2. I sense there must be a much easier way to achieve what I want. Basically you can tell from the View what I want to achieve: I want to get a collection of projects. Each project should have it's associated collection of tasks. And each task should have it's associated collection of timesegments for the specified date period. Note that the projects and tasks selected must also only be the projects and tasks that have the timesegments for this period. I don't want all projects and tasks that have no timesegments within this period. It seems the group by Linq query beginning the GetProjects() method sort of achieves this (if extended to have the conditions for date and so on), but I can't return this and pass it to the view, because it is an anonymous object. I also tried creating a specific type in such a query, but couldn't wrap my head around that either... I hope there is something I'm missing and there is some easier way to achieve this, because I need to be able to do several other different queries as well eventually. I also don't really like the way I solved it with the "CurrentTimeSegments" properties and so on. These properties don't really exist on the model objects in the first place, I added them in partial classes to have somewhere to put the filtered results for each part of the nested object chain... Any ideas?

  • MVC 3 ModelView passing parameters between view & controller

    I've been playing with MVC 3 in a test project and have the following issue. I have Group & Subscriber entities and those are coupled through a SubscriberGroup table. Using the DetailView of Group I open a view of SubscriberGroup containing all subscribers. This list has the option to filter. So far it all works, however when I call the AddToGroup method on the controller it fails. Specifically it goes into the method but doesn't pass the subscriberCheckedModels list. Am I doing something wrong?   • INSERT stored procedure does not work?

    Hello, I'm trying to make an insertion from one database called suspension to the table called Notification in the ANimals database. My stored procedure is this: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spCreateNotification] -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here @notRecID int, @notName nvarchar(50), @notRecStatus nvarchar(1), @notAdded smalldatetime, @notByWho int AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here INSERT INTO Animals.dbo.Notification values (@notRecID, @notName, @notRecStatus, null, @notAdded, @notByWho); END The null inserting is to replenish one column that otherwise will not be filled, I've tried different ways, like using also the names for the columns after the name of the table and then only indicate in values the fields I've got. I know it is not a problem of the stored procedure because I executed it from the sql server management studio and it works introducing the parameters. Then I guess the problem must be in the repository when I call the stored procedure: public void createNotification(Notification not) { try { DB.spCreateNotification(not.NotRecID, not.NotName, not.NotRecStatus, (DateTime)not.NotAdded, (int)not.NotByWho); } catch { return; } } It does not record the value in the database. I've been debugging and getting mad about this, because it works when I execute it manually, but not when I automatize the proccess in my application. Does anyone see anything wrong with my code?   • Is there unreachable code in this snippet? I don't think so, but Resharper is telling me otherwise.

    I have the following method I came across in a code review. Inside the loop Resharper is telling me that if (narrativefound == false) is incorrect becuase narrativeFound is always true. I don't think this is the case, because in order to set narrativeFound to true it has to pass the conditional string compare first, so how can it always be true? Am I missing something?     How does one stream files, html or custom AJAX responses from web parts? Our current quick-and-very-dirty solution is to make the web part call the current page with certain query parameters, which the web part checks and instead of performing normal load it writes the required things to output and calls response end. This sounds bad since SharePoint might load other web parts and execute their code before reaching our web part. The web part is configured with data source settings which means the streaming context must be specific to the web part so it can acquire the correct data source settings.

  • Dynamically compose ASP MVC view based on context

    I have several views that are composed of several partial views based on context. For example, we have a Project view that shows all the details of a project, which includes the scalar values, name etc, and also all the assigned employees, tasks and/or clients. The problem I have is that certain types of project have all of the above sections while others have only two or even on section, ie. details only. What is the best way to compose the Projects master view? I don't want to have logic to check the project in the view. Is there a way to compose a view in code by programatically rendering the relevant partials and ignoring the rest? Otherwise are there any other ideas how to do this in a maintainable way? I could of course just render the partials using if statements to check if they apply, but that way the view contains VERY important logic. In another situation we want to use this method to display content based on the type of subscription a user has. Thanks!

  • Custom DataGridView column sort based on Value not Formatted value

    I have a custom DGV cell I'm using to display the contents of MyType objects. To control how they're being formatted I'm overriding the GetFormattedValue() and FormattedvalueType methods of DataGridViewTextBoxCell because in this case I don't want to use the default ToString() method. The problem is that when I do this the DGV is sorting the column by the string in FormattedValue instead of by Value. I'm not seeing a method I can override to change the sort behavior of the column. While I know I can, I don't want to have to write custom Sort mthods for the DGVs themselves because I'm using this in multiple DGV's.
