  I'm not a Haskell programmer, but I'm curious about the following questions. Informal function specification: Let MapProduct be a function that takes a function called F and multiple lists. It returns a list containing the results of calling F with one argument from each list in each possible combination. Example: Call MapProduct with F being a function that simply returns a list of its arguments, and two lists. One of the lists contains the integers 1 and 2, the other one contains the strings "a" and "b". It should return a list that contains the lists: 1 and "a", 1 and "b", 2 and "a", 2 and "b". Questions: How is MapProduct implemented? What is the function's type? What is F's type? Can one guess what the function does just by looking at its type? Can you handle inhomogeneous lists as input? (e.g. 1 and "a" in one of the input lists) What extra limitation (if any) do you need to introduce to implement MapProduct?

I have a domain - "http://www.exampletest.com" which redirects to a folder at a different domain where I have hosting i.e: "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest" Is there an easy mod_rewrite rule where I could have anything at "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest" show up as "http://www.exampletest.com?" An example would be: "http://www.differenturl.com/exampletest/user.php" - "http://www.exampletest.com/user.php" Any assistance is greatly appreciated. • Simple wxPython Frame Contents Resizing - Ratio?

  I have a wxPython app with one frame and one panel. On that panel are a number of static boxes, each of which has buttons and textboxes. I have just begun reading about sizers, but they seem like they might be more than what I need, or it could that they are exactly what I need but I don't know how to use them correctly! The frame currently opens at 1920 x 1080. If the user drags the bottom right corner to resize the app, I just want everything to get smaller or larger as needed to keep the same size ratio. Is this possible? Thank you! edit: additional info: I used wxPython 2.8 and Boa to construct the GUI. I am contemplating trying another gui ide. So after reading some more about sizers, I am thinking about doing the following: add a gridsizer and basically divide my window's elements into rows and columns, then set each row and column's size as necessary until I achieve the original layout. Then I guess set the rows and columns to resize correctly? Is this a decent idea?

• Simple Serialization Faster Than JSON? (in Ruby)

  I have an application written in ruby (that runs in the JRuby VM). When profiling it, I realized that it spends a lot (actually almost all of) its time converting some hashes into JSON. These hashes have keys of symbols, values of other similar hashes, arrays, strings, and numbers. Is there a serialization method that is suitable for such an input, and would typically run faster than JSON? It would preferable if it is has a Java or JRuby-compatible gem, too. I am currently using the jruby-json gem, which is the fastest JSON implementation in JRuby (as I am told), so the move will most likely be to a different serialization method rather than just a different library. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

  There's a field with type of varchar. It actually stores a float point string. Like 2.0 , 12.0 , 34.5 , 67.50 ... What I need is a update statement that remove the ending zeros of fields like 2.0 , 12.0 , change them to their integer representation , that is 2 , 12 ...,and leave 3.45 , 67.50 unchanged . How should I do this ? I am using oracle 10.

• How to make some simple GUI controls?

  I need to make a DirectX or OpenGL app and i will need a custom GUI for that. I think a button, a input text box, a list box (that will need a scroll bar as there will be more items that can fit on the screen) and a slider control will be enough. I know about CeGUI framework but i just don't like it, way too many XML files for my taste. My question is where should i start in learning how to do this custom GUI controls, are there any tutorial available or any material that could get me started? I haven't done a GUI contol myself before.

• Simple modal div in jQuery?

  I have tried almost all of the jQuery Modal plkugins I can find on the net but they are all much to bulky for what I need. I dont need all the fancy features, I want to be able to open a div and have the background of the page go transparent grey like the photo below and have my div be on top of it, that is all I need to do so I would like to write some jquery to do this instead of using a bulky plugin. Does anyone have any small code that can do this task? Is the transparent background an image or just css?

• Very simple python functions takes spends long time in function and not subfunctions

  I have spent many hours trying to figure what is going on here. The function 'grad_logp' in the code below is called many times in my program, and cProfile and runsnakerun the visualize the results reveals that the function grad_logp spends about .00004s 'locally' every call not in any functions it calls and the function 'n' spends about .00006s locally every call. Together these two times make up about 30% of program time that I care about. It doesn't seem like this is function overhead as other python functions spend far less time 'locally' and merging 'grad_logp' and 'n' does not make my program faster, but the operations that these two functions do seem rather trivial. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be happening? Have I done something obviously inefficient? If I stop all Oracle services, is it safe to backup by just copying the entire directory (e.g., to C:\oracle_bak), or am I significantly better off using expdp?   Hello, I have just started learning Haskell and have got stumped on how to add a rating to a custom data type. The data type I'm using has a name, a year and a tuple (userName and their rating), it looks like: data Wine = Wine String Int [Rating] deriving (Eq,Ord,Show,Read) type Rating = (String, Int) I wanted to allow a user to rate a given wine from a database, stored as [Wine] but cant figure out how to to it.   Hi, I have a number of C functions, and I would like to call them from python. cython seems to be the way to go, but I can't really find an example of how exactly this is done. My C function looks like this: void calculate_daily ( char *db_name, int grid_id, int year, double *dtmp, double *dtmn, double *dtmx, double *dprec, double *ddtr, double *dayl, double *dpet, double *dpar ) ; All I want to do is to specify the first three parameters (a string and two integers), and recover 8 numpy arrays (or python lists. All the double arrays have N elements). My code assumes that the pointers are pointing to an already allocated chunk of memory. Also, the produced C code ought to link to some external libraries.

  I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start. Thank you

• Simple JPG/HTML Not Showing Up in iPhone

  I'm not familiar with iPhones wants and needs, nor do I have one, but a client wants a screen cap of his site to show up when an iPhone user comes around so I created an .htaccess redirect to an iPhone specific page with this bit of code... RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} iPhone RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/iPhone/ RewriteRule .* /iPhone/ [R] And the html of the iPhone page... <html> <head> <title>Eatamadedia</title> </head> <body style="background-color:#858384;margin:0 auto;"> <img src="../images/iPhonePage.jpg"> </body> </html> The page redirects just fine, but the .jpg doesn't show up. I can't imagine a simpler page. Anyone know what could be preventing the image from displaying? Does the iPhone require headers?   Um - I feel like an idiot, but.... ruby -e '3+5' Outputs nothing (Windows 7, Ruby 1.8.7, Cygwin or Git Bash). What am I missing? Extra credit - will this also allow the extra cool bundle (stolen from TextMate) Execute and Update # = markers to work properly? EDIT Ok that worked, and I'll accept the answer, but e-texteditor still doesn't work with that really cool bundle. Too bad.
