  • Java checking connection via socket continuously

    - by Onca
I'm developing a multiclient-server program with Java based on GUI and database. The demand regarding the program from the client side is to make sure all the time that there is a connection to the server, and if the connection is lost (server goes down/problem with socket or stream) it should be notified. In other words I need a solution for continuously checking the connection to the server. What is the best way to do that ?

  • Are there any scripts to synchronize sites?

    - by Matrym
I've just set up a fail-over DNS to switch the site to a second host if the first is down. This is great for showing an old / archived version of the site, but I suspect maintenance is going to be a real pain. I moved the files over with rsync in the first place. Is this the kinda thing that could be run as a cron job, automatically moving over newer files?

  • Click to select from a list of tags in jQuery

    - by Michael Doornbos
I'm struggling to find a tag selection UI for a rails app. Ideally it would be something like the selection here on Stackoverflow, or on Delicious or Digg. I want users to be able to select multiple tags with a single click. We're already using jQuery, so it makes sense to use something that takes advantage of that. I've used the selection ui in jQuery and I'm not thrilled about having users need to hold down ctrl to select multiple tags.

I am using the registration form that is already available in the user manager option in my website. But once I click on the register button I get this message: Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://prachi.matrimony4me.in/index.php/sample-sites-2?task=registration.register. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later. • PHP Round Minute to nearest Quarter Hour

    - by Rob
I need to round times down to the nearest quarter hour in PHP. The times are being pulled from a MySQL database from a datetime column and formatted like 2010-03-18 10:50:00. Example: 10:50 needs to be 10:45 1:12 needs to be 1:00 3:28 needs to be 3:15 etc. I'm assuming floor() is involved but not sure how to go about it. Thanks

  • Downside to including headers in every source file (Objective-C)

    - by Michael Waterfall
I'm currently including my AppDelegate.h and all of my category headers into every one of my source files using the MyApp_Prefix.pch prefix header, instead of manually #importing them only where they are used. The category methods and lots of compiler #define's in my app delegate are used in lots of places in my code. Is there any down side to this? Is it just that compilation will take longer?

  • Show dialog after Application.Exit()

    - by Bryce Wagner
Under certain circumstances, I wish to display an error message to the user if the application didn't shut down, but MessageBox.Show() doesn't actually do anything after calling Application.Exit(). Is there a way to convince it to show a dialog after Application.Exit()?

  • What is the best way to observe the scroll over an element with overflow set?

    - by Phunky
It's simple to observe the documents scroll event but I can't seem to find anything relating to the scroll of any other element with css property overflow being set? To get around this myself i've been observing mousemove which only fires while you hold down on the scrollbar but this would need to be teamed with a mouse wheel observe also to get the full effect. Could anyone point me in the right direction for a better way of implementing this?

  • sidewaysfire and twosided

    - by hanno
I try two use sidewaysfigure from the rotating package in the twosided memoir class. The resulting figures look correct in the pdf that is generated, with the page rotated by 90 degrees. However, when I print the document (on linux, using CUPS), some of the pages with a sidewaysfigure are upside down (rotated by 180 degreeS).

  • Multiple key presses doing different events in C#

    - by Nevik Eeirnb
Hi, private void Form1_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (e.KeyCode == Keys.W) player1.moveUp(); if (e.KeyCode == Keys.NumPad8) player2.moveUp(); } In the above code the moveUp methods basically just increment a value. I want it so both keys can be pressed (or held down)at the same time and both events will trigger. Thanks, Nevik

  • when was RAII added to C++

    - by Magnus
I recently learned about the wonderful memory management technique of RAII, which seems so much cleaner than the new/delete headache I learned in school years ago (I haven't looked at much C++ during the intervening years). I'm trying to track down when this great technique was added to C++. Was it always there and I just missed the memo? What's the oldest version of the C++ standard which supports RAII?

  • [MSVC++] Breakpoints on a variable changing value?

    - by John
I'm chasing a bug where a member value of an object seems to magically change, without any methods being called which modify it. No doubt something obvious but proving hard to track down. I know I can put conditional break-points in methods based on the variable value, but is it in any way possible to actually put a breakpoint on a variable itself? e.g a breakpoint which fires when x==4? I know I can put watches on, what about breakpoints?
