  • Decompressing file with gzip produces file with no read-permissions on Windows 7

    - by Abiel
    I am attempting to decompress a .gz file using the GnuWin32 gzip program in Windows 7. I have full permissions on the compressed file, and my user account is an administrator. However, I end up not having read permissions on the decompressed file. To get read permissions I would have to manually change the permissions on it through right-clicking and selecting Properties Security. I am able to do this exact same thing with no permission problems in Windows XP, which leads me to believe that Windows 7's user account control system is causing problems. Does anyone know what I can do to make things work as I would expect (read permission on the decompressed file) in Windows 7? Thanks.

  • Blackberry JDE generating bad .jad file (does not match compiled .cod file)

    - by matkas
    I Have a BB application that gets compiled into 3 siblings cod file. ( actualy one cod fil contaning 3 sub cod files). app.cod |--app.cod |--app-1.cod |--app-2.cod which is normal. the jad refers to those 3 inner .cod files. Now I have add some feature to my app, it is getting a little bit bigger. the jad now refers to 4 inner .cod files. but there is still 3 inside the app.cod that is generated. so I now still have app.cod |--app.cod |--app-1.cod |--app-2.cod but with the jad refering to app.cod app-1.cod app-2.cod AND app-3.cod. what is wrong the my compiled program? is it a bug from the JDE? I am using JDE 4.5.

  • Good articles to read on SSL and HTTPS?

    - by Igor Romanov
    I had a problem with accepting invalid SSL certificate in my iPhone program. That problem is solved now, however I came to understanding that I have very abstract idea on how exactly the whole thing is working: how web browser is verifying that received certificate is really for host it communicates to and not faked by same party in the middle? if browser talks to some 3rd party (CA?) to do certificate check? and many other questions... Would someone please recommend good source of information with in-depth enough description of how all parts click together?

  • What is application and process?

    - by Lu Lu
    An application consists of one or more processes. A process, in the simplest terms, is an executing program. One or more threads run in the context of the process. A thread is the basic unit to which the operating system allocates processor time. A thread can execute any part of the process code, including parts currently being executed by another thread. Source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms684841%28VS.85%29.aspx I understand about thread, but I can't distinguish between application & process. What is application? What is process? How do an application have more than 1 process? And please give me an example in C#. Thanks.

Is there any way to hook into the Json-serializer?

  • OpenGL textures trigger error 1281 and strange background behavior

    - by user3714670
    I am using SOIL to apply textures to VBOs, without textures i could change the background and display black (default color) vbos easily, but now with textures, openGL is giving an error 1281, the background is black and some textures are not applied. There must be something i didn't understand about applying/loading the textures. BUt the texture IS applied (nothing else is working though), the error is applied when i try to use the shader program however i checked the compilation of these and no problems were written. Here is the code i use to load textures, once loaded it is kept in memory, it mostly comes from the example of SOIL : texture = SOIL_load_OGL_single_cubemap( filename, SOIL_DDS_CUBEMAP_FACE_ORDER, SOIL_LOAD_AUTO, SOIL_CREATE_NEW_ID, SOIL_FLAG_POWER_OF_TWO | SOIL_FLAG_MIPMAPS | SOIL_FLAG_DDS_LOAD_DIRECT ); if( texture > 0 ) { glEnable( GL_TEXTURE_CUBE_MAP ); glEnable( GL_TEXTURE_GEN_S ); glEnable( GL_TEXTURE_GEN_T ); glEnable( GL_TEXTURE_GEN_R ); glTexGeni( GL_S, GL_TEXTURE_GEN_MODE, GL_REFLECTION_MAP ); glTexGeni( GL_T, GL_TEXTURE_GEN_MODE, GL_REFLECTION_MAP ); glTexGeni( GL_R, GL_TEXTURE_GEN_MODE, GL_REFLECTION_MAP ); glBindTexture( GL_TEXTURE_CUBE_MAP, texture ); std::cout << "the loaded single cube map ID was " << texture << std::endl; } else { std::cout << "Attempting to load as a HDR texture" << std::endl; texture = SOIL_load_OGL_HDR_texture( filename, SOIL_HDR_RGBdivA2, 0, SOIL_CREATE_NEW_ID, SOIL_FLAG_POWER_OF_TWO | SOIL_FLAG_MIPMAPS ); if( texture < 1 ) { std::cout << "Attempting to load as a simple 2D texture" << std::endl; texture = SOIL_load_OGL_texture( filename, SOIL_LOAD_AUTO, SOIL_CREATE_NEW_ID, SOIL_FLAG_POWER_OF_TWO | SOIL_FLAG_MIPMAPS | SOIL_FLAG_DDS_LOAD_DIRECT ); } if( texture > 0 ) { // enable texturing glEnable( GL_TEXTURE_2D ); // bind an OpenGL texture ID glBindTexture( GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture ); std::cout << "the loaded texture ID was " << texture << std::endl; } else { glDisable( GL_TEXTURE_2D ); std::cout << "Texture loading failed: '" << SOIL_last_result() << "'" << std::endl; } } and how i apply it when drawing : GLuint TextureID = glGetUniformLocation(shaderProgram, "myTextureSampler"); if(!TextureID) cout << "TextureID not found ..." << endl; // glEnableVertexAttribArray(TextureID); glActiveTexture(GL_TEXTURE0); if(SFML) sf::Texture::bind(sfml_texture); else { glBindTexture (GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture); // glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGB, 1024, 768, 0, GL_RGB, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, &texture); } glUniform1i(TextureID, 0); I am not sure that SOIL is adapted to my program as i want something as simple as possible (i used sfml's texture object which was the best but i can't anymore), but if i can get it to work it would be great. EDIT : After narrowing the code implied by the error, here is the code that provokes it, it is called between texture loading and bos drawing : glEnableClientState(GL_VERTEX_ARRAY); //this gives the error : glUseProgram(this->shaderProgram); if (!shaderLoaded) { std::cout << "Loading default shaders" << std::endl; if(textured) loadShaderProgramm(texture_vertexSource, texture_fragmentSource); else loadShaderProgramm(default_vertexSource,default_fragmentSource); } glm::mat4 Projection = camera->getPerspective(); glm::mat4 View = camera->getView(); glm::mat4 Model = glm::mat4(1.0f); Model[0][0] *= scale_x; Model[1][1] *= scale_y; Model[2][2] *= scale_z; glm::vec3 translate_vec(this->x,this->y,this->z); glm::mat4 object_transform = glm::translate(glm::mat4(1.0f),translate_vec); glm::quat rotation = QAccumulative.getQuat(); glm::mat4 matrix_rotation = glm::mat4_cast(rotation); object_transform *= matrix_rotation; Model *= object_transform; glm::mat4 MVP = Projection * View * Model; GLuint ModelID = glGetUniformLocation(this->shaderProgram, "M"); if(ModelID ==-1) cout << "ModelID not found ..." << endl; GLuint MatrixID = glGetUniformLocation(this->shaderProgram, "MVP"); if(MatrixID ==-1) cout << "MatrixID not found ..." << endl; GLuint ViewID = glGetUniformLocation(this->shaderProgram, "V"); if(ViewID ==-1) cout << "ViewID not found ..." << endl; glUniformMatrix4fv(MatrixID, 1, GL_FALSE, &MVP[0][0]); glUniformMatrix4fv(ModelID, 1, GL_FALSE, &Model[0][0]); glUniformMatrix4fv(ViewID, 1, GL_FALSE, &View[0][0]); drawObject();

  • How to sort in-place using the merge sort algorithm?

    - by eSKay
    I know the question is too open. All I want is someone to tell me how to convert a normal merge sort into an in-place merge sort (or a merge sort with constant extra space overhead). All I can find (on the net) is pages saying "it is too complex" or "out of scope of this text". "The only known ways to merge in-place (without any extra space) are too complex to be reduced to practical program." (from here) Even if it is too complex, can somebody outline the basic concept of how to make the merge sort in-place?

  • How to use C to write a C compiler?

    - by israkir
    I am taking a compiler course this semester and we talked about this interesting thing in the class. Teacher used an example of p-code along with pascal to explain it. After google-ing a bit, I saw this phenomena is called self-hosting and naturally related to the first compilers. Ok, there is an interpreter which interprets the compiler source code written in its own language. But, there is still something missing in the explanations I found. I mean, there are some parts still looks mysterious (what about the interpreter? it is also a program, still need to be translated into machine code etc...) What I am asking you guys is that can you explain it as simple as possible or provide any online resource which you think that it explains this phenomena precisely..

  • Unable to install Maven: "JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory"

    - by hello_world_infinity
    I followed the Maven tutorial to the letter but I still can't get Maven installed. When I run the following in command prompt: E:\Documents and Settings\zach>mvn --version I get: 'mvn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I navigated to the maven install folder and ran mvn --version and got: E:\java resources\apache-maven-2.2.0\bin>mvn --version ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory. JAVA_HOME = "E:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin" Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the location of your Java installation but when I run java -version I get: java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode) So I do have Java installed. • Can obfuscation (proguard) lead to MIDlet malfunction?

    - by eMgz
    Hi, Im trying to obfuscate a Java MIDlet with proguard. It runs ok on the PC, however, when I run it on the phone, the program opens, connects to the server, and then freezes. If I disable obfuscation, it runs ok again on the phone. Ive tryed all the obfuscation levels for apps (7, 8 and 9 at NetBeans), and none of them seems to work properly, and I cant release this app for comercial use without obfuscation. Also, the compiler throws some warnings: Note: duplicate definition of library class [java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream] Note: there were 14 duplicate class definitions. But I dont know if this is realy the problem. Does anyone knows what is wrong? The obfuscator arguments are listed below: Obfuscator Arguments (7): -dontusemixedcaseclassnames -default package '' -keep public class ** { public *; } Obfuscator Arguments (8): same as (7) plus -overloadaggressively. Obfuscator Arguments (9): same as (8) but -keep public class ** extends javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet { public *; } instead. Thanks.

  • alias_attribute and creating and method with the original attribute name causes a loop

    - by Tiago
    Im trying to dynamically create a method chain in one attribute in my model. By now I have this function: def create_filtered_attribute(attribute_name) alias_attribute "#{attribute_name}_without_filter", attribute_name define_method "#{attribute_name}" do filter_words(self.send("#{attribute_name}_without_filter")) end end so I receive a string with the attribute name, alias it for '*_without_filter*' (alias_method or alias_method_chain fails here, because the attribute isnt there when the class is created), and I create a new method with the attribute name, where I filter its contents. But somehow, when I call *"#{attribute_name}_without_filter"* it calls my new method (i think because the alias_attribute some how), and the program goes into a stack loop. Can someone please enlighten me on this.

  • What would you recommend for a large-scale Java data grid technology: Terracotta, GigaSpaces, Cohere

    - by cliff.meyers
    I've been reading up on so-called "data grid" solutions for the Java platform including Terracotta, GigaSpaces and Coherence. I was wondering if anyone has real-world experience working any of these tools and could share their experience. I'm also really curious to know what scale of deployment people have worked with: are we talking 2-4 node clusters or have you worked with anything significantly larger than that? I'm attracted to Terracotta because of its "drop in" support for Hibernate and Spring, both of which we use heavily. I also like the idea of how it decorates bytecode based on configuration and doesn't require you to program against a "grid API." I'm not aware of any advantages to tools which use the approach of an explicit API but would love to hear about them if they do in fact exist. :) I've also spent time reading about memcached but am more interested in hearing feedback on these three specific solutions. I would be curious to hear how they measure up against memcached in the event someone has used both.

  • understanding this regex

    - by DarthVader
    I m trying to understand what the following does. ^([^=]+)(?:(?:\\=)(.+))?$ Any ideas? This is being used here. Obviously it s command line parser but i m trying to understand the syntax so i can actually run the program. This is from commandline-jmxclient , they have no documents on setting JMX properties but in their source code, there is such an option, so i just want to understand how i can invoke that method. Matcher m = Client.CMD_LINE_ARGS_PATTERN.matcher(command); if ((m == null) || (!m.matches())) { throw new ParseException("Failed parse of " + command, 0); } this.cmd = m.group(1); if ((m.group(2) != null) && (m.group(2).length() > 0)) this.args = m.group(2).split(","); else this.args = null;

  • Call Babel .Net Obfuscator from C# Code

    - by aron
    Hello, I have a C# WinForms app that I use to create software patches for my app. In noticed that Babel .Net includes Babel.Build.dll and Babel.Code.dll Is there a way, in my C# code, I can call Babel .Net something like: ExecuteCommand(C:\Program Files\Babel\babel.exe "C:\Patch\v6\Demo\Bin\Lib.dll" --rules "C:\Patch\babelRules.xml", 600) Here's a common script to execute a CMD prompt in C#. However if I just include the Babel.Build.dll in my winform I may be able to do it seamlessly. public static int ExecuteCommand(string Command, int Timeout) { int ExitCode; ProcessStartInfo ProcessInfo; Process Process; ProcessInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("cmd.exe", "/C " + Command); ProcessInfo.CreateNoWindow = true; ProcessInfo.UseShellExecute = false; Process = Process.Start(ProcessInfo); Process.WaitForExit(Timeout); ExitCode = Process.ExitCode; Process.Close(); return ExitCode; }

  • What should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

    - by egarcia
    This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

With the following quick-and-dirty makefile: SOURCES = main.asm OBJECTS = main.o TARGET = SDLASM.exe FASM = C:\fasm\fasm.exe release : $(OBJECTS) ld $(OBJECTS) -LC:/SDL/lib/ -lSDLmain -lSDL -LC:/MinGW/lib/ -lmingw32 -lcrtdll -o $(TARGET) --subsystem windows cleanrelease : del $(OBJECTS) %.o : %.asm $(FASM) $< $@ Using exit() (or Windows' ExitProcess()) seems to be the only way to get this program to exit cleanly, even though I feel like I should be able to use retn/retf. When I just ret without calling exit(), the application does not terminate and needs to be killed. Could anyone shed some light on this? It only happens when I make the call to SDL_SetVideoMode().

  • Can't get my head around background workers in .NET

    - by Connel
    I have wrote an application that syncs two folders together. The problem with the program is that it stops responding whilst copying files. A quick search of stack-overflow told me I need to use something called a background worker. I have read a few pages on the net about this but find it really hard to understand as I'm pretty new to programming. Below is the code for my application - how can I simply put all of the File.Copy(....) commands into their own background worker (if that's even how it works)? Below is the code for the button click event that runs the sub procedure and the sub procedure I wish to use a background worker on all the File.Copy lines. Button event: protected virtual void OnBtnSyncClicked (object sender, System.EventArgs e) { //sets running boolean to true booRunning=true; //sets progress bar to 0 prgProgressBar.Fraction = 0; //resets values used by progressbar dblCurrentStatus = 0; dblFolderSize = 0; //tests if user has entered the same folder for both target and destination if (fchDestination.CurrentFolder == fchTarget.CurrentFolder) { //creates message box MessageDialog msdSame = new MessageDialog(this, DialogFlags.Modal, MessageType.Error, ButtonsType.Close, "You cannot sync two folders that are the same"); //sets message box title msdSame.Title="Error"; //sets respone type ResponseType response = (ResponseType) msdSame.Run(); //if user clicks on close button or closes window then close message box if (response == ResponseType.Close || response == ResponseType.DeleteEvent) { msdSame.Destroy(); } return; } //tests if user has entered a target folder that is an extension of the destination folder // or if user has entered a desatination folder that is an extension of the target folder if (fchTarget.CurrentFolder.StartsWith(fchDestination.CurrentFolder) || fchDestination.CurrentFolder.StartsWith(fchTarget.CurrentFolder)) { //creates message box MessageDialog msdContains = new MessageDialog(this, DialogFlags.Modal, MessageType.Error, ButtonsType.Close, "You cannot sync a folder with one of its parent folders"); //sets message box title msdContains.Title="Error"; //sets respone type and runs message box ResponseType response = (ResponseType) msdContains.Run(); //if user clicks on close button or closes window then close message box if (response == ResponseType.Close || response == ResponseType.DeleteEvent) { msdContains.Destroy(); } return; } //gets folder size of target folder FileSizeOfTarget(fchTarget.CurrentFolder); //gets folder size of destination folder FileSizeOfDestination(fchDestination.CurrentFolder); //runs SyncTarget procedure SyncTarget(fchTarget.CurrentFolder); //runs SyncDestination procedure SyncDestination(fchDestination.CurrentFolder); //informs user process is complete prgProgressBar.Text = "Finished"; //sets running bool to false booRunning = false; } Sync sub-procedure: protected void SyncTarget (string strCurrentDirectory) { //string array of all the directories in directory string[] staAllDirectories = Directory.GetDirectories(strCurrentDirectory); //string array of all the files in directory string[] staAllFiles = Directory.GetFiles(strCurrentDirectory); //loop over each file in directory foreach (string strFile in staAllFiles) { //string of just the file's name and not its path string strFileName = System.IO.Path.GetFileName(strFile); //string containing directory in target folder string strDirectoryInsideTarget = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(strFile).Substring(fchTarget.CurrentFolder.Length); //inform user as to what file is being copied prgProgressBar.Text="Syncing " + strFile; //tests if file does not exist in destination folder if (!File.Exists(fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget + "/" + strFileName)) { //if file does not exist copy it to destination folder, the true below means overwrite if file already exists File.Copy (strFile, fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget + "/" + strFileName, true); } //tests if file does exist in destination folder if (File.Exists(fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget + "/" + strFileName)) { //long (number) that contains date of last write time of target file long lngTargetFileDate = File.GetLastWriteTime(strFile).ToFileTime(); //long (number) that contains date of last write time of destination file long lngDestinationFileDate = File.GetLastWriteTime(fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget + "/" + strFileName).ToFileTime(); //tests if target file is newer than destination file if (lngTargetFileDate > lngDestinationFileDate) { //if it is newer then copy file from target folder to destination folder File.Copy (strFile, fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget + "/" + strFileName, true); } } //gets current file size FileInfo FileSize = new FileInfo(strFile); //sets file's filesize to dblCurrentStatus and adds it to current total of files dblCurrentStatus = dblCurrentStatus + FileSize.Length; double dblPercentage = dblCurrentStatus/dblFolderSize; prgProgressBar.Fraction = dblPercentage; } //loop over each folder in target folder foreach (string strDirectory in staAllDirectories) { //string containing directories inside target folder but not any higher directories string strDirectoryInsideTarget = strDirectory.Substring(fchTarget.CurrentFolder.Length); //tests if directory does not exist inside destination folder if (!Directory.Exists(fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget)) { //it directory does not exisit create it Directory.CreateDirectory(fchDestination.CurrentFolder + "/" + strDirectoryInsideTarget); } //run sync on all files in directory SyncTarget(strDirectory); } } Any help will be greatly appreciated as after this the program will pretty much be finished :D

  • What are the prerequisites for learning embedded systems programming ?

    - by WarDoGG
    I have completed my graduation in Computer engineering. We had some basic electronics courses in Digital signal processing, Information theory etc but my primary field is Programming. However, i was looking to get into Embedded sytems programming with NO knowledge of how it is done. However, i am very keen on going into this field. My questions : what are the languages used to program embedded system programs ? Will i be able to learn without having any basics in electronics ? any other prerequisites that i should know ?

  • Enable access for assistive device programmatically

    - by Dheeraj
    Hi All, I want to enable Access for assistive devices in System Preferences programmatically. But Problem is that my application is not running as root user and i do not want my application to be as root user and also should not ask for any authentication in between. I want to tap all keyboard events globally. I am using CGEventTapCreate() for the same.In the documentation of CGEventTapCreate() API it is mentioned that, Event taps receive key up and key down events if one of the following conditions is true: The current process is running as the root user. Access for assistive devices is enabled. In Mac OS X v10.4 & later, you can enable this feature using System Preferences, Universal Access panel, Keyboard view. I tried manually by checking the Enable Access for assistive devices from System Preference and it gives me expected output. So is there any way to do the same via program without asking for authentication and also application is not running as root user? Thanks, Dheeraj.

  • Where does complexity bloat from?

    - by AareP
    Many of our design decisions are based on our gut feeling about how to avoid complexity and bloating. Some of our complexity-fears are true, we have plenty of painful experience on throwing away deprecated code. Other times we learn that some particular task isn't really that complex as we though it to be. We notice for example that upkeeping 3000 lines of code in one file isn't that difficult... or that using special purpose "dirty flags" isn't really bad OO practice... or that in some cases it's more convenient to have 50 variables in one class that have 5 different classes with shared responsibilities... One friend has even stated that adding functions to the program isn't really adding complexity to your system. So, what do you think, where does bloated complexity creep from? Is it variable count, function count, code line count, code line count per function, or something else?

  • What is it that automatically checks config changes (such as those in /etc) into git?

    - by Brandon
    I remember reading on the ubuntu forums some time ago about a program to automatically check configuration changes into version control for you. It was (of course) not Ubuntu-specific. I'm pretty sure it used git, though it may have been svn, or perhaps even able to work with multiple different VCSs. My Googling has turned up nothing, and I'd rather not roll my own script if someone has already done this well. Of course I could just manually check things in, but there are reasons I'd like it done automatically. (I'm actually planning to use this for my LastSession.plist file for Safari, so when the #@$%^*&! thing crashes, and I don't restore everything, and then Leopard crashes, the fact that it has such lousy session management won't mean I lose the dozens of windows with dozens of tabs I had open.)
