• Safari javascript cookie issue

  I've hit a bit of a weird issue in Safari in regards to setting a js cookie. The cookie itself is just a rgb colour value, which gets set using .click(), and is working fine in Chrome and Firefox, yet in Safari the value of the cookie is incomplete, showing up as rgb(193 instead of rgb(193, 184, 76) as the other browsers do. • Ruby: Locate class definition at run time?

  I'm having an odd probably with rails right now... a class is being defined somewhere, and I can't find it. Grepping for "class ClassName" hasn't managed to locate it, but it's definitely there when I load up the rails console. It's just a vanilla class inheriting from Object with nothing else defined... quite boring. So, what I'd like is a way to figure out where this class constant was originally defined from the rails console. Something to print out the value of '__ FILE __' when this class was declared, in other words. I feel like some type of metaprogramming should make this possible.

• DIfferences in pictures between ie6 and ie7

  BACKGROUND-IMAGE: url(../images/feedback_trans_tab.png); _background-image: url(../images/feedback_tab_ie6.png) I've seen code like this in a css file feedback_tab_ie6.png is 886 bytes and feedback_trans_tab.png has 1.64Kb Both pics have transparent backgrounds so that you can apply your own background color. Both look the same. yet in IE6 if I comment this line: _background-image: url(../images/feedback_tab_ie6.png) this appears: and if I don't this appears: DOes anyone have any idea why this is? How can I turn a ie6 picture into an ie6 picture from Photoshop? Thank you in advance

  Hello, I am trying to replace a variable stored in another file using regular expression. The code I have tried is: r = re.compile(r"self\.uid\s*=\s*('\w{12})'") for line in fileinput.input(['file.py'], inplace=True): print line.replace(r.match(line), sys.argv[1]), The format of the variable in the file is: self.uid = '027FC8EBC2D1' I am trying to pass in a parameter in this format and use regular expression to verify that the sys.argv[1] is correct format and to find the variable stored in this file and replace it with the new variable. • ASP.NET MVC How to call a secured page from a windows app?

  Hi, I have a MVC app that has forms authentication enabled. The app allows printing of invoices. I have an external app that converts html to pdf. How can I call the secured page from this pdf converter app so that some security remains? The PDF converter app just requires a URL. One thought was to create a HttpHandler for an extenion of say .print and pass a public key in the URL qureystring that can be validated by the MVC app. Any ideas on this? Malcolm

• Strange beep when using cout

  Hello everyone, today when I was working on some code of mine I came across a beeping sound when printing a buffer to the screen. Here's the mysterious character that produces the beep: '' I don't know if you can see it, but my computer beeps when I try to print it like this: cout<<(char)7<<endl; Another point of interest is that the 'beep' doesn't originate from my on board beeper, but from my headphone/speaker Is this just my computer or there something wrong with the cout function? EDIT: But then why does printing this character produce the beep sound? does that mean that I could send other such characters through the cout function to produce different effects?

  I've read about it from the php website (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/language.basic-syntax.phpmode.php) Using: echo "<html tag>" is slower and also annoying because you got to escape char like " with \" But what's about using $output = <<< EOF <html code> EOF; Then later on in the code I can use $output .= <<< EOF <some more html code> EOF; then when I want to print it: echo "$output"; I think it's a great idea, but really wonder what you PHP guru think about it.   Hi, I'm trying to modify Guido's multimethod (dynamic dispatch code): http://www.artima.com/weblogs/viewpost.jsp?thread=101605 to handle inheritance and possibly out of order arguments. e.g. (inheritance problem) class A(object): pass class B(A): pass @multimethod(A,A) def foo(arg1,arg2): print 'works' foo(A(),A()) #works foo(A(),B()) #fails Is there a better way than iteratively checking for the super() of each item until one is found? e.g. (argument ordering problem) I was thinking of this from a collision detection standpoint. e.g. foo(Car(),Truck()) and foo(Truck(), Car()) and should both trigger foo(Car,Truck) # Note: @multimethod(Truck,Car) will throw an exception if @multimethod(Car,Truck) was registered first? I'm looking specifically for an 'elegant' solution. I know that I could just brute force my way through all the possibilities, but I'm trying to avoid that.   I've got the above odd error message that I don't understand "value Parsers is not a member of package scala.util.parsing.combinator". I'm trying to learn Parser combinators by writing a C parser step by step. I started at token, so I have the classes: import util.parsing.combinator.JavaTokenParsers object CeeParser extends JavaTokenParsers { def token: Parser[CeeExpr] = ident } abstract class CeeExpr case class Token(name: String) extends CeeExpr This is as simple as I could make it. The code below works fine, but if I uncomment the commented line I get the error message given above: object Play { def main(args: Array[String]) { //val parser: _root_.scala.util.parsing.combinator.Parsers.Parser[CeeExpr] CeeParser.token val x = CeeParser.token print(x) } } In case it is a problem with my setup, I'm using scala 2.7.6 via the scala-plugin for intellij. • Implement a WebDAV server in C#?

  We've got a CMS system written in .NET C#. This system has editing facilities for templates (essentially HTML files) and various other support files such as CSS and javascript files. These "files" are not really files, but database records and they are edited using plain old textareas within the CMS system. To make editing these "files" easier, on idea was to implement WebDAV support in the CMS system for these files, so users could use some WebDAV client software to connect to the CMS and then open these in VS 2008 for example. Firstly, is this a feasible idea? Secondly, if so ... where do start? Any good articles out there about implementing a WebDAV server in C# to provide access to either physical documents or "pseudo" documents which are in reality just records in a database? Any input appreciated ....

• Does anyone know of a syntax checker for classic ASP ?

  As part of my my web development system I have written a text editor witch (among other formats like CSS and HTML) has got ASP syntax highlighting. Does anyone know of an ASP syntax checker program of (preferably) DLL that I could call from within this editor, so that I could present my users with a list of errors (like I already do with an HTML validator). I would like to check for the ASP syntax before using the code on a web page. Now, depending on the type and the place of the error, it can take days or weeks before some error pops up.

• Where/When does C# and the .NET Framework fail to be the right tool?

  In my non-programming life, I always attempt to use the approprite tool for the job, and I feel that I do the same in my programming life, but I find that I am choosing C# and .NET for almost everything. I'm finding it hard to come up with (realistic business) needs that cannot be met by .NET and C#. Obviously embedded systems might require something less bloated than the .NET Micro Framework, but I'm really looking for line of business type situations where .NET is not the best tool. I'm primarly a C# and .NET guy since its what I'm the most comfertable in, but I know a fair amount of C++, php, VB, powershell, batch files, and Java, as well as being versed in the web technologes (javascript, html/css). But I'm open minded about it my skill set and I'm looking for cases where C# and .NET are not the right tool for the job. The bottom line here, is that I feel that I'm choosing C# and .NET simply because I am very comfertable with it, so I'm looking for cases where you have chosen something other than .NET, even though you are primarly a .NET developer.

It could be PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, C, Java. Idea is that once i have the colored html code, i could easily put that in my wordpress.com blog. • How would you implement the "tell don't ask" principle in HAML?

  Here's the thing. I have a button that, depending on the scenario, will behave, look and have different text. Here's how it, roughly, looks like at the moment: - if params[:param_A] && @statement_A %span.button.cancel_button{attribute: "value_B"} - if @statement_B = t('locale_A') - else = t('locale_B') - elsif params[:param_A] %span.button.cancel_button{attribute: "value_A"} - if @statement_B = t('locale_A') - else = t('locale_B') There's also a CSS class both buttons should have IF statement_B is true. So it is a mess. And I recently read about the "Tell, don't ask" principle which I liked very much, so I'd love to apply it here... but I'm not sure how. I know I could make a helper, but I'd like to stay away from them because reasons (I really have some valid reasons to do so, but those are beyond the scope of this question). I can resort to that as a last resource, but would rather find another solution.

  I'm not sure if 'architecture' is the correct term, but I've been looking for some articles online which talk about programming design and more about how best to use languages such as JavaScript in a code design sense rather than the actual syntax itself. I have found many websites but a lot seem to be very out dated, and I'm not sure what developments have taken place with JavaScript over the years so do not know how old is too old. If anybody could suggest some great websites, or maybe specific articles you think would be useful, that would be highly appreciated. I am a beginner programmer currently using JavaScript with XML and of course HTML & CSS, and I'm currently trying to get further into and learn more about web development.

  Hello, this jquery question: when I set a specific height to a "#div", i want to set the width of a inner object automatically too (cause i need a width to read it out) [ "#div" ["object"] ] example: (object).css(width: [ CALCULATION ], height: ($("#div").height())+'px' ) the original proportion of the image is: 1600x1080 here's the link to the attachment, take a look at it (tinypic): link text the heights "500px", "600px" and "700px" you can see in the attachment are just examples, the heigth could also be "711px", "623px", "998px" etc. cause the "#div" scales with the browser (i can read out the height of window, that works) my math skills aren't really good, would be great if someone could help me out :-)

• Find&Replace using Python - Binary file

  Hello, I'm attempting to do a "find and replace" in a file on a Mac OS X computer. Although it appears to work correctly. It seems that the file is somehow altered. The text editor that I use (Text Wrangler) is unable to even open the file once this is completed. Here is the code as I have it: import fileinput for line in fileinput.FileInput("testfile.txt",inplace=1): line = line.replace("newhost",host) print line, When I view the file from the terminal, it does say "testfile" may be a binary file. See it anyway? Is there a chance that this replace is corrupting the file? Do I have another option for this to work? I really appreciate the help. • Best way to store data for Greasemonkey based crawler?

  I want to crawl a site with Greasemonkey and wonder if there is a better way to temporarily store values than with GM_setValue. What I want to do is crawl my contacts in a social network and extract the Twitter URLs from their profile pages. My current plan is to open each profile in it's own tab, so that it looks more like a normal browsing person (ie css, scrits and images will be loaded by the browser). Then store the Twitter URL with GM_setValue. Once all profile pages have been crawled, create a page using the stored values. I am not so happy with the storage option, though. Maybe there is a better way? I have considered inserting the user profiles into the current page so that I could all process them with the same script instance, but I am not sure if XMLHttpRequest looks indistignuishable from normal user initiated requests.
