  • mysql_fetch_assoc data to COOKIE in user browser

    - by Gowtham Raj
I had data in mysql, where it does not need any security. I had a sql query string to get the data out every time using mysql_fetch_assoc. So, I planed to store data in users browser. To reduce no of quires to sql. if (!isset($_COOKIE['countries'])){ $query = "SELECT iso, name FROM sel_country"; $countries = mysql_query($query); setcookie('countries', serialize($countries), time()+3600); }else{ $countries = $unserialize($_COOKIE['countries']); } while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($countries)) {echo $row['name']} But, When cookie is set it is showing following error Fatal error: Function name must be a string in /home/worlds/public_html/index/ctrl.php on line 15 My cookie in browser displaying content as i%3A0%3B Please help me out, how should i go?

  • Compute column widths in a HTML-like manner (based on cell contents)

    - by cipak
Hi, I have a grid of data that I want to export to RTF, PDF etc. using various (and not perfect) PHP converters/generators. What I am missing most is the HTML table automatic adjustment of column widths based on the lengths of strings in the cells (strings contain line breaks which complicate things a bit, as they should be preserved). I need an algorithm that, given the contents of the cells (plain text), a total width of the table and an average width of a character, would return a width for each column. I wouldn't want to reinvent the wheel if something is already available. Of course it can't be perfect if the font is variable width, but an approximation would do just fine. Or maybe it could have a configurable table with widths for each character. Any hint would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • How might one detect the first run of a program?

    - by Julian H. Lam
In my web application, users can download a .tar.gz archive containing the app files. However, because the MySQL database won't have been configured then, the user needs to run the install script located in ./install. I "catch" the user upon first run of the app by checking to see if the ./install directory exists. If so, the index.php page redirects the user to the install script. However, I was wondering if there were a more elegant way to "catch" a user upon first-run of a program. Someone on IRC suggested the web-server create a file .installed upon completion, but because the web server might not have write privileges to the web root directory, I can't rely on that. How would you go about solving this problem, or is my solution workable?

  • Two-key encryption/decryption?

    - by Matt
I'm looking to store some fairly sensitive data using PHP and MySQL and will be using some form of reversible encryption to do so since I need to get the data back out in plain text for it to be of any use. I'll be deriving the encryption key from the users' username/password combination but I'm stumped for what to do in the (inevitable) event of a password being forgotten. I realise that the purpose of encryption is that it can only be undone using the correct key but this must have been addressed before.. I'm trying to get my head around whether or not public key cryptography would apply to the problem but all I can think of is that the private key will still need to be correct to decrypt the data.. Any ideas?

  • Post High Score and Retrieve Position

    - by majman
I'm not so savvy with MYSQL, so my apologies in advance is this is a dumb question. I've created a super basic PHP High Scores table. Upon inserting a new score into the DB Table, I'd like to retrieve the position of that score so that I can get 10 results with the persons score falling within that range. My INSERT Query looks something like: $stmt = $mysqli->prepare("INSERT INTO highscores (name, time, score) VALUES (?, ?, ?)"); $stmt->bind_param('sdi', $name, $time, $score); UPDATE - I'm looking for a way to do this with as few queries as possible. I recall reading something about getting an INSERT ID when making an insert, but I would then still have to make a second query to get those results.

  • Approach to data wrapping

    - by Mikhail
I'm developing in PHP and MySQL. The information about the currently logged in user is stored in many different tables. The information that I need on each page, I preload. However if something is needed from a rarely accessed table - then I do $newdata = $db->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table WHERE user_id='.$user->id); I would like to simplify the above to a point where I don't have to specify that the query should be limited to this particular user. An ideal function call would be: $newdata = $user->Query('SELECT * FROM rare_table'); Obviously I'd have to parse the SQL and add a WHERE clause. Or add to the already existing clause. Questions: are there tools to do this? How can I develop this? Is this even a good idea?

  • Select *, max(date) works in phpMyAdmin but not in my code

    - by kdobrev
OK, my statement executes well in phpMyAdmin, but not how I expect it in my php page. This is my statement: SELECT egid , group_name , limit , MAX( date ) FROM employee_groups GROUP BY egid ORDER BY egid DESC ; This is may table: CREATE TABLE employee_groups ( egid int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, date date NOT NULL, group_name varchar(50) NOT NULL, limit smallint(5) unsigned NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (egid, date) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=cp1251; I want to extract the most recent list of groups, e.g. if a group has been changed I want to have only the last change. And I need it as a list (all groups).

  • Are protected constructors considered good practice?

    - by Álvaro G. Vicario
    I'm writing some little helper classes to handle trees. Basically, I have a node and a special root node that represents the tree. I want to keep it generic and simple. This is part of the code: <?php class Tree extends TreeNode{ public function addById($node_id, $parent_id, $generic_content){ if( $parent = $this->findNodeById($parent_id) ){ $parent->addChildById($node_id, $generic_content); } } } class TreeNode{ public function __construct($node_id, $parent_id, $generic_content){ // ... } protected function addChildById($node_id, $generic_content){ $this->children[] = new TreeNode($this->node_id, $node_id, $generic_content); } } $Categories = new Tree; $Categories->addById(1, NULL, $foo); $Categories->addById(2, NULL, $bar); $Categories->addById(3, 1, $gee); ?> My questions: Is it sensible to force TreeNode instances to be created through TreeNode::addById()? If it's so, would it be good practise to declare TreeNode::__construct() as private/protected?

  • Jquery UI Sortable Item Contents

    - by bluedaniel
So I have this shopping list coded in php and js: http://www.whatcouldicook.com/recipes/planner So people can add, delete or sort the list and thats fine, I dont want multiple lists and instead just have a list item containing a heading tag to represent a new list. All this works and then using serialize I can save the ordering/modifying of the list. I don't know how to get the list contents however as these will be dynamic from the user. All the code is on that url so hopefully you can examine the code there. Thanks everyone

  • How do I handle user authorization the safest way?

    - by Irro
I'm developing a small website where I'm going to allow user to create accounts but I'm quite clueless when it comes to safety around authorizations. I have built my project in PHP with codeigniter and found a library (Tank Auth) that could handle authorization for me. It stores password in a safe way but I'm still worried about the part when the user sends their password to my server. One easy way to do it would be to send the password in a post-request but I would guess that it's quite easy to sniff such a password. Should I do something with the password on the client side before sending it to my server? And is there any good javascript libraries for this?

  • Regex to replace 'li' with 'option' without losing class and id attributes

    - by Earthman Web
    I am looking for a solution using preg_replace or similar method to change: <li id="id1" class="authorlist" /> <li id="id2" class="authorlist" /> <li id="id3" class="authorlist" /> to <option id="id1" class="authorlist" /> <option id="id2" class="authorlist" /> <option id="id3" class="authorlist" /> I think I have the pattern correct, but not sure how to do the replacement part... Here is the (wordpress) php code: $string = wp_list_authors( $args ); //returns list as noted above $pattern = '<li ([^>]*)'; $replacement = '?????'; echo preg_replace($pattern, $replacement, $string); Suggestions, please?

  • How to escape/strip special characters in the LaTeX document?

    - by Igor
We implemented the online service where it is possible to generate PDF with predefined structure. User can choose a LaTeX template and then compile it with an appropriate inputs. The question we worry about is the security, that the malicious user was not able to gain shell access through the injection of special instruction into latex document. We need some workaround for this or at least a list of special characters that we should strip from the input data. Preferred language would be PHP, but any suggestions, constructions and links are very welcomed. PS. in few word we're looking form mysql_real_escape_string for LaTeX

  • Unread email notifier, most practical approach

    - by Michael Pasqualone
I'm in the process of writing a small php-cli script that will loop over over my personal inbox and then send me an SMS via a gateway. The question I have is: As will have the script launch via cron every 10 minutes, if there is an email sitting in my inbox that is not read before the next script launch then I will receive 2 sms. Does any one (pseudocode will do) have any idea what the best practice would be in php5 to ensure only 1 SMS is sent? What I am currently learning towards is towards storing the message ID in a sqlite DB and flagging a field whether an SMS has been sent or not - but wondering if there is an easier way?

    - by Matthieu
Hi everybody, Do you know any solution to recover from the PHP fatal error : "Allowed memory size ... exhausted" I have a shutdown function that is called when a fatal error appear. This function create an ErrorException from it, and logs it. The problem is : when there is no more memory available, it can't log the error (I log in Firebug, via FirePHP, with Zend Framework). So what i mean by "how to recover from it", is how to perform basic error log, and let Zend Framework send the Headers, so that the error is logged (in Firebug in my case) as any other error ? • "Did you mean" feature on a dictionary database

    - by Hazar
I have a ~300.000 row table; which includes technical terms; queried using PHP and MySQL + FULLTEXT indexes. But when I searching a wrong typed term; for example "hyperpext"; naturally giving no results. I need to "compansate" little writing errors and getting nearest record from database. How I can accomplish such feaure? I know (actually, learned today) about Levenshtein distance, Soundex and Metaphone algorithms but currently not having a solid idea to implement this to querying against database. Best regards. (Sorry about my poor English, I'm trying to do my best)

  • Sending passwords over the web

    - by Falmarri
So I'm working on a mobile platform application that I'd like to have users authenticate over the web. I was wondering the best way to do security. The user is sending a password for HTTP to a php server wich authenticates against a mysql database on the same server. Obviously I don't want to send the password in plain text over the internet, but I also don't want to do 2 SHA hashes. This is what the server looks like (in pseudocode) $pass = $_POST['pass']; if ((get PASSWORD where USERNAME = USERNAME) == SHA($pass)) return PASS; This is pretty standard and I don't think there's any other way to do this. But I was wondering how I should prepare the data before sending it over the internet.

  • Gaining application/module context from a symfony task

    - by Martin Chatterton
I have written a reporting suite, and I have a specific report that builds a CSV file. Serving this file via a browser on demand isn't an issue, but I need to be able to build this CSV file nightly, and email round a link to be able to download it. Essentially, I need to be able to replace a specific action with a symfony task, run via cron. So how do I gain application/module context from a symfony task? And secondly, how would I invoke the SwiftMailer library from a symfony task? I'm using symfony v1.4.4 and PHP v.5.2.13. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Redirect to Apache built-in 404 page with mod_rewrite?

    - by Pekka
Is there a way to actively serve Apache's default, built-in 404 page for a number of URLs using mod_rewrite? Not a custom error document, but a rule like RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/dirname/pagename RewriteRule -- serve 404 page ----- I know how to build a PHP page that sends the 404 header and have mod_rewrite redirect all the URLs there but I would prefer a solution that is based on mod_rewrite only. I just had the idea of redirecting to a non-existent address: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/dirname/pagename RewriteRule .* /sflkadsölfkasdfölkasdflökasdf but that would give the user the message "/sflkadsölfkasdfölkasdflökasdf does not exist" on the error page, which looks a bit unprofessional.
