  • How to build a Windows Forms email-aware text box?

    Hi, I'm building a C# client app that allows a user to communicate with one or more existing users in a system via an email-like metaphor. I'd like to present the user with a text entry box that auto-completes on known email addresses, and allows multiple delimiter-separated addresses to be entered. Ideally, I'd also like the email addresses to turn into structured controls once they've been entered and recognized. Basically, I'm modeling the UI interaction for adding users after Facebook's model. Are there any Windows Forms controls out there with the ability to do something like this? Is there any well-established terminology for a hybrid textbox / control list box (no, not a ComboBox) or something that I should be searching for? Thanks, -Patrick

  • When to draw/layout child controls in UserControl

    I have a list-type UserControl (like a ListBox). The items inside the control are another complex UserControl containing a few other controls (ComboBox, TextBox, etc). I'm wondering what the preferred or best method would be to override to draw/layout the child controls. I basically want to trigger this method any time the list changes. I originally had a RedrawItems method that I just called whenever I needed to redraw which added or removed Controls from the Controls collection. But it was getting triggered too early in the lifecycle of the code from some of the designer code. Now I've switched to overriding OnLayout and doing my stuff there. I call PerformLayout when I want to trigger a redraw, such as when the DataSource property changes or when it fires a changed event. Is OnLayout the best place for this?   • StringConverter with StandardValuesSupported and Autocompletion

    I want to develop a StringConverter with standard values, which after attaching it to a PropertyGrid will act like comboBox with autocompletion. The example below will give me a comboBox, but without the autocompletion - user have to expand it and choose manually one of the items.   • How can you determine if Control.Visible is set via property or if the value is inherited

    I need to find a way to determine if the Visible property of a control is set via a property change or if is inheriting it value from its parent. Using the Reflector, I find that the functions this.GetVisibleCore() and this.GetState() are both internal methods so I cannot call them. The widgets themselves are created dynamically so I do not want to attach a method to the VisibleChanged event just after the creation of each widget so can try to monitor this property. If I have to, I guess I will but I am looking for something jsut a bit more elegant.

Is there any way to load UI and prepare it before displaying??I mean showing final UI after the whole repainting events done.     Is there any way I can specify that some columns in a DataTable will not be automatically bound to a DataGridView when I set the DataSource property of the DataGridView to the DataTable. For example, if I have a DataTable with columns as "Id, Name" then can I specify that Id column will not be shown in DataGridView? I know I can set some Visible property in DataGridView after it is bound, but can I specify in the DataTable/DataColumn itself?

    Is there any way to enable debugging from within the Windows Forms Designer in Visual Studio (any version, up to and including 2010)? What I mean is, say I have some custom user control, and this control has certain validation that it performs when I set a particular property. I'd like to be able to set a breakpoint somewhere within that code, and step through it to see what happens when I set the property from the designer.

  • Property in a Windows Forms form class only accessable after Load event

    I'm instantiating and calling Form B from Form A. FormB has some custom properties, to allow me to pass it things like sqlAdaptors and dataset instances. When i instantiate and show Form B from Form A as a dialog form with a Using statement, it all works fine, but i find the properties i pass are not available in Form B until after the form_load event has fired. I was under the impression the properties when passed to a instantiated class should be available from a constructor, but this is not the case. If it try to access the properties before the form load event i get a null reference exception. Is this correct behavior ?

  • Screen information while Windows system is locked (.NET)

    We have a nightly process that updates applications on a user's pc, and that requires bringing the application down and back up again (not looking to get into changing that process). The problem is that we are building a Windows AppBar on launch which requires a valid screen, and when the system is locked there isn't one in the Screen class. So none of the visual effects are enabled and it shows up real ugly. The only way we currently have around this is to detect a locked screen and just spin and wait until the user unlocks the desktop, then continue launching. Leaving it down isn't an option, as this is a key part of our user's workflow, and they expect it to be up and running if they left it that way the night before. Any ideas?? I can't seem to find the display information anywhere, but it has to be stored off someplace, since the user is still logged in.
