• Ubuntu One Bookmark sync not working.

  Everything in Ubuntu One sync works great except bookmark sync.   I'm new to Linux, and am trying to get my Capture Card working on 11.04. The only command that I know to run to find out any information is lspci, which tells me that I have 02:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video and Audio Decoder (rev 04) I've looked at using Me TV, but haven't worked out how to configure it for my card, or what I need to do to get it running. I'm not fussed on what software I use to run the Capture Card, but I've currently got only Me TV installed. • Compiz stop working

  I'm on a laptop sony vaio, vng-nw330f with ubuntu 11.10. One day I used my computer normally, I shutdown and the other day when I turn on it again, all was different. Compiz effects is not working at all, it doesn't matter what plugin (from ccsm) i enable or disable, nothings happens, nothings changes. I tried next commands: unity --reset unity --reset-icons sudo rm -rf .config .gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private .compiz .icons .fonts .nautilus .themes .qt .local (from my home directory) gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1 I try reinstalling compiz (I remove compiz from software center and installed it again). I have just a couple of weeks using ubuntu, I'm not sure if exist a desktop call it unity 3d, but I think that it's missing. I want the graphics interface of ubuntu 11.10 by default.

• Gnome Classic U 11.04 trash not working, can't find my trash dir

  I did an upgrade from U 10.10 to U 11.04. I can't upgrade further because Upgrade Manager says that there are unsupported packages. How do I find them? A more immediate problem is that trash stopped working even though "/.share/local/Trash is getting files removed by the file manager. The trash icon on the lower panel fails after having done the upgrade from Gnome 2 to Unity and using Gnome Classic, says "No Such File or Directory". File Operations says it is looking at "/". How do I reconfigure the trash icon to use my local trash dir? The trash dir is there, has the right permissons, I can "rm" the dir tree there, and recreate it by moving files to the trash from the file manager.

• RewriteRule not working at server level?

  I wanted to forbid some robots from doing certain things to my websites and decided to add a RewriteRule for that purpose. The rule works when put in one of my <VirtualHost *:80> tag and looks like this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} libwww-perl RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST RewriteRule . - [F,L] However, I wanted to apply that to all my websites instead of just one of them. So with the newest version of Apache2 settings, I decided to put that code in the security.conf file. This file is defined under /etc/apache2/conf-available/... (and yes, I have a softlink from the /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/... directory.) However, if the definition is only in the conf-available/security.conf files, it somehow gets ignored. From the documentation, it says that these Rewrite* commands all work at server level! Any idea of what I would be missing?

• Atheros AR2413 wireless not working after shutdown

  I am using a Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer aspire 3680 laptop and my wifi is not working. I followed the below commands to install the madwifi driver: sudo su apt-get install subversion cd /usr/src svn checkout http://madwifi-project.org/svn/madwifi/trunk madwifi tar cfvz madwifi.tgz cd madwifi make && make install echo "blacklist ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf echo "ath_pci" /etc/modules modprobe ath_pci sudo reboot After installation I am facing the same problem. My wifi wont work after I shutdown. Infact it didn't work after suspend but I rectified that problem by the following commands: Command 1: sudo rmmod -f ath_pci sudo rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe ath_pci along with the command SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci added to the /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi directory. So if I suspend and then on my laptop the wifi loads well and doesn't create a problem. But if I shutdown my laptop the wifi never loads again and eachtime I have to run a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to load it. I did try adding the Command 1 to the /etc/rc.local directory but still it doesn't work. So my question is: What should I do in order to make my wireless work without having to run a live CD of ubuntu 9.04 everytime after shutdown? Thanks. • Working with logout dialog box - text error

  I am having a problem with the shutdown dialog box for Ubuntu 12.04. If I am logged in as any user and press shutdown, I see the box with the question 'Are you sure..." and its usual options. Shutting down when I am not logged in as a specific user, however, displayed only square boxes. An image of this error can be found here: I believe this error started a few weeks ago when i accidentally changed the group for my root system directory, so it might be a permission thing or an improperly assigned group lingering somewhere. The trouble is that I don't know where the text for this box is stored, and no idea where to begin checking. Can any one point me in the right direction?

  The one thing I've always like working on and about this site, is the full text search engine and spider. Bascially it goes out and spiders all the major development blogs on the web, and then indexes them. The engine uses Lucene for it's index. Lucene is another open source project and it works really fast. Currently the directory is indexed, and the rss feeds are underway. • How to get espeak working?

• Video playback not working in Ubuntu 11.10

  (Ubuntu 11.10, Gnome Classic with Compiz, Nvidia graphics card) This problem occurs with every and all video, whether it's a Youtube video in Firefox, an AVI file in movie player, or any other video. Video simply does not work. When I start any kind of video, the image halts after a second or two. The sound, however, continues. Before it seemed that if I delete all the files in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/, then reboot, the video will play. However this is no longer the case. Manipulating files in that directory does nothing to help the situation. I am now no longer sure this is a gstreamer issue or something else. I am open to any and all possibilities. How can I get video playback to run smoothly on my machine?

• Hulu desktop stopped working on my Dell

  After last weeks flash update Hulu desktop no longer works on my Dell laptop though it still works on my HP Desktop. Here's what CLI tells me on the Dell: Inspiron-1564:~$ huludesktop Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I tried: sudo apt-get install libvdpau_nvidia.so but got E: Unable to locate package libvdpau_nvidia.so and E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'libvdpau_nvidia.so' Hulu does work through the browser and through XBMC. XBMC just doesn't seem to match the video quality of the Hulu Desktop. I don't really know why a nvidia.so is needed for my Intel graphics that comes on Dell Insiron 1564's. anyway. So, do you guys have a solution?

• Mic not working when vga connector removed

  I have a computer that should run continuously without any connection to a monitor. For developmental purposes I have been keeping the vga connection with the monitor and experienced no problem until now. When I start the machine removing the vga connection beforehand, external microphone does not work. At first I didn't know anywhere to look and see the problem, but after a google search I saw that there is a command as alsamixer I ssh the machine end type alsamixer when it is connected to the monitor, here is the result If I remove monitor connection and reboot again, and then type alsamixer, I see the error, $ alsamixer cannot open mixer: No such file or directory I suspect that this error is related to X somehow. I really don't know anything about what goes beyond. This machine needs to work without any connection to a monitor. I would deeply appreciate any suggestions.

• Are there alternatives to Sysinternals ADInsight?

  I had been using ADInsight from Sysinternals to trace Active Directory calls from my workstation, but the application has failed. Where previously the Active Directory events were traced and logged, now the window remains blank, whether the application is in capture mode or not. I have run as Administrator, rebooted, downloaded a new version; none of those actions has returned the program to a functional state. The Sysinternals forums don't offer much hope, since this tool is known to fail often. Is there tool that has similar functionality? • Apache 2 Virtual Hosts no working on OSX 10.6

  This is my first MacBook and I'm trying to get virtual hosts up and running so as it's going to be my dev machine. I've got apache/php/mysql running fine, the problem is that what ever address I go to I just get one of the virtual hosts I've setup. I can't even get to the root site anymore. I had phpmyadmin setup on http://localhost/pma but now that comes up with an error. If I take out the vhosts config file it seems to work again. • FTP Error: 550 Cant change directory to /: Permission denied

  I installed Pureftpd and Ispconfig3 on my server. Starting from the point I'll probably uninstall ispconfig3 and make things directly on the server, now I am so stubborn I really want to see where's the problem. I created a ftp user through ispconfig, named amdpftp. It is related to a server user named web7. It logs in with username and password, but if i try to ls, it tells me: FTP Error: 550 Cant change directory to /: Permission denied I thought many things, like: 1. It is a problem of permissions. I went to /var/www/clients/client0/web7 , it was immutable and owned by root. Chattr -i and chown web7:client0 changed permissions, but with no effect. I restored to root:root, and made it immutable again. 2. I make some mistakes in the pureftpd installation: Wrong, it works pretty fine. The pureftpd.log doesn't seem to say anything bad. 3. The pureftpd.log file is only the pureftpd one, I should also check the mysqld functionality, as it is in a mysql database that user, password and working directory are stored. I enabled logging in the my.cnf, but also in the ispconfig database operation there wasn't anything wrong. Then I mkdir testftp in /var/www, chown web7:client0, and edited amdpftp user root directory from /var/www/clients/client0/web7 into /var/www/testftp . Guess what? It worked. So, now I know: 1. The PureFtpd works pretty fine 2. The mysql ispconfig database as well 3. The username and password of the virtual user created by ispconfig into pureftpd work 4. The correlation between username and password and the user web7 and the group client0 does work. What kind of magic has been cast upon the ispconfig directories [/var/www/clients/*] that block ftpusers to operate?

• Apache Simple Configuration Issue: per-user directory is accessing /~user instead of ~user

  Hello. I am just getting Apache 2.2 running on Fedora 13 Beta 64-bit. I am running into issues setting my per-user directory. The goal is to make localhost/~user map to /home/~user/public_html. I think that I have the permissions right because I have 755 to /home/~user, and I have 755 to /home/~user/public_html/ and I have 777 for all contents inside of /home/~user/public_html/ recursively set. My mod_userdir configuration looks like this: <IfModule mod_userdir.c> # # UserDir is disabled by default since it can confirm the presence # of a username on the system (depending on home directory # permissions). # UserDir disabled root UserDir enabled huckphin # # To enable requests to /~user/ to serve the user's public_html # directory, remove the "UserDir disabled" line above, and uncomment # the following line instead: # UserDir public_html The error that I am seeing in the error log is this: [Sat May 15 09:54:29 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /~huckphin/index.html denied When I login as the apache user, I know that /~huckphin does not exist, and this is not what I want. I want it to be accessing ~huckphin, not /~huckphin. What do I need to change on my configuration for this to work?

  I am running Macports apache2 on Mac OS X 10.5. Whenever I configure a virtual host in the default folder, it works, however when I configure the virtual host in my home directory I get a "403 Forbidden" error. How do I configure a vhost in my home directory? • Cygwin - Repo with Separate Git/Working Dir Doesn't Work

  Since I've switched to OS X and Vim, I've found it easiest to manage all of my 'dotfiles' (all of my configuration files and miscellaneous scripts) with Git. Having already set up my dotfiles in a repo following this tutorial, I figured it would also be easy enough to migrate all of my settings into my Cygwin setup on my Windows partition. Already having the repo setup on Github, I simply clone'd the repo, and moved all of the files over to my home directory, making it a mirror of my OS X home directory. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to use the actual repo any further within Cygwin. The problem is that I cannot use my dotfiles repo with git within Cygwin. The setup is unique from most normal git repos, in that the working directory and the git directory are in different locations. Specifically, the working directory is $HOME (/Users/kyle on OS X, /home/kyle in Cygwin), and the git repo is $HOME/.dotfiles.git. So, if I wanted to get the status of the repo, for example, I would type the following command (which I alias to reduce typing, of course): git --work-tree=$HOME --git-dir=$HOME/.dotfiles.git status -uno While this works fine on OS X, this refuses to work within Cygwin. Regardless of whether or not I use my alias, or whether or not I substitute $HOME by hand, I get the following git error: fatal: Not a git repository: /home/Kyle/dotfiles/.git/modules/.build/git I don't understand where this error comes from, but the path /home/Kyle/dotfiles was the original location of the git repo when I initially cloned it. Additionally, it's important to note that the repo relies heavily on submodules. If specifics are necessary, the repo in question can be found on GitHub. The commands I ran to setup the repo in Cygwin can also be found within the Readme file.

  I've got an VPS in germany running Debian X64. I have very strange issue. I have ISPConfig CP installed using proftpd and I can not connect to FTP by any means. Few hours ago I've had installed DirectAdmin on CentOS same VPS and same issue.   Hi All, I'm at the final stage of migrating an old demoted DC server, now I'm stuck in migrating/copying the roaming profiles of the users from the old win2k server (oldServer1) into the new win2k3 server (newServer1) there are lots of profiles which points into the old server: \\oldServer1\profiles\user1 \\oldServer1\profiles\user2 \\oldServer1\profiles\user3 . . . \\oldServer1\profiles\userN in the ProfilePath I'd like to move it into: \\newServer1\profiles\user1 \\newServer1\profiles\user2 \\newServer1\profiles\user3 . . . \\newServer1\profiles\userN I tried to copy paste from my DOMAIN\Administrator account but it is failed to copy ? i cannot even browse inside the directory of user1 until userN ? is there any fastest way to do the copy process rather than "taking ownership" for each of those directory one by one ? [hopefully by taking ownership the user will still be able to use their profile normally] Thanks.
