• YQL How to use wildcard in XPath

- by uku
Hello, I have a malformed page to scrape, and have had a hard time getting the correct XPath for YQL. I can scrape individual fields that I need using, for example: //*[@id="cell_12345"] But what I really need to do is return all elements who's ID begins with cell_. Something like: //*[@id="cell_"*] How do I do this? Also, if anybody can point me to a good XPath reference it would be very helpful. Thanks!

• How to send hashed data in SOAP request body?

- by understack
I want to imitate following request using Zend_Soap_Client for this wsdl. <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:SOAP-ENC="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:clr="http://schemas.microsoft.com/soap/encoding/clr/1.0" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"> <SOAP-ENV:Header> <h3:__MethodSignature xsi:type="SOAP-ENC:methodSignature" xmlns:h3="http://schemas.microsoft.com/clr/soap/messageProperties" SOAP-ENC:root="1" xmlns:a2="http://schemas.microsoft.com/clr/ns/System.Collections">xsd:string a2:Hashtable</h3:__MethodSignature> </SOAP-ENV:Header> <SOAP-ENV:Body> <i4:ReturnDataSet id="ref-1" xmlns:i4="http://schemas.microsoft.com/clr/nsassem/Interface.IRptSchedule/Interface"> <sProc id="ref-5">BU</sProc> <ht href="#ref-6"/> </i4:ReturnDataSet>
<a2:Hashtable id="ref-6" xmlns:a2="http://schemas.microsoft.com/clr/ns/System.Collections"> <LoadFactor>0.72</LoadFactor> <Version>1</Version> <Comparer xsi:null="1"/> <HashCodeProvider xsi:null="1"/> <HashSize>11</HashSize> <Keys href="#ref-7"/> <Values href="#ref-8"/> </a2:Hashtable> <SOAP-ENC:Array id="ref-7" SOAP-ENC:arrayType="xsd:anyType[1]">
@AppName
</SOAP-ENC:Array>
<SOAP-ENC:Array id="ref-8" SOAP-ENC:arrayType="xsd:anyType[1]">
AAGENT
</SOAP-ENC:Array> </SOAP-ENV:Body> </SOAP-ENV:Envelope> It seems somehow I've to send hashed "ref-7" and "ref-8" array embedded inside body? How can I do this? Function ReturnDataSet takes two parameters, how can I send additional "ref-7" and "ref-8" array data? $client = new SoapClient($wsdl_url, array('soap_version' => SOAP_1_1)); $result = $client->ReturnDataset("BU", $ht); I don't know how to set $ht, so that hashed data is sent as different body entry. Thanks.

• I have a problem sometimes in my vb.net webmail application?

- by ahmed
I have a weird problem in my vb.net web application sometimes. webmail webform with html editor, sometimes very rare users type for example more than 200 or 400 characters and send the message to other user. But the reciever only recieves 5 or 7 characters. 2 or 3 words of the message. I don know what is going on. I checked the code, no bugs everything is working fine.All the users are on Microsoft XPsp2 platform. Any help will be appreciated. Is this sufficient , or shall I provide any more input regarding the problem...?? OK I got it... the problem is when I type characters in HtmlEditor it keeps on continuing, i mean it should go to the end and automatically comes to the second line....but it is going on and on.how can I stop this.

• augment the factory pattern in java

- by TP
I am trying to use a factory pattern to create a QuestionTypeFactory where the instantiated classes will be like MultipleChoice, TrueFalseQuestion etc. The factory code looks something like this class QuestionFactory { public enum QuestionType { TrueFalse, MultipleChoice, Essay } public static Question createQuestion(QuestionType quesType) { switch (quesType) { case TrueFalse: return new TrueFalseQuestion(); case MultipleChoice: return new MultipleChoiceQuestion(); case Essay: return new EssayQuestion(); } throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not recognized."); } } This works ok for now. If I want to add another question type I will need to modify the factory class and I do not want to do that. How can I set it up so that each question class registers itself with the Factory so that when I add a new question type, I do not have to change the code for the factory? I am a bit new to java and am not sure how to do this.

• .NET: Avoidance of custom exceptions by utilising existing types, but which?

- by Mr. Disappointment
Consider the following code (ASP.NET/C#): private void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!SetupHelper.SetUp()) { throw new ShitHitFanException(); } } I've never been too hesitant to simply roll my own exception type, basically because I have found (bad practice, or not) that mostly a reasonable descriptive type name gives us enough as developers to go by in order to know what happened and why something might have happened. Sometimes the existing .NET exception types even accommodate these needs - regardless of the message. In this particular scenario, for demonstration purposes only, the application should die a horrible, disgraceful death should SetUp not complete properly (as dictated by its return value), but I can't find an already existing exception type in .NET which would seem to suffice; though, I'm sure one will be there and I simply don't know about it. Brad Abrams posted this article that lists some of the available exception types. I say some because the article is from 2005, and, although I try to keep up to date, it's a more than plausible assumption that more have been added to future framework versions that I am still unaware of. Of course, Visual Studio gives you a nicely formatted, scrollable list of exceptions via Intellisense - but even on analysing those, I find none which would seem to suffice for this situation... ApplicationException: ...when a non-fatal application error occurs The name seems reasonable, but the error is very definitely fatal - the app is dead. ExecutionEngineException: ...when there is an internal error in the execution engine of the CLR Again, sounds reasonable, superficially; but this has a very definite purpose and to help me out here certainly isn't it. HttpApplicationException: ...when there is an error processing an HTTP request Well, we're running an ASP.NET application! But we're also just pulling at straws here. InvalidOperationException: ...when a call is invalid for the current state of an instance This isn't right but I'm adding it to the list of 'possible should you put a gun to my head, yes'. OperationCanceledException: ...upon cancellation of an operation the thread was executing Maybe I wouldn't feel so bad using this one, but I'd still be hijacking the damn thing with little right. You might even ask why on earth I would want to raise an exception here but the idea is to find out that if I were to do so then do you know of an appropriate exception for such a scenario? And basically, to what extent can we piggy-back on .NET while keeping in line with rationality?

• CSS :after pseudo element on INPUT field

- by matra
Hi, I am trying to use :after CSS pseudo element on INPUT field, but it does not work. If I use it with SPAN, it works OK. This works (puts the smily after "buu!" and berfore "some more") buuu!a some more This does not work - it only color someValue in red, but there is no smiley. What am I doing wrong? should I use another pseudo selector. Note: I can not add SPAN sround my INPUT; because it is being generated by a third party control. Matraj

• Force import module from Python standard library instead of PYTHONPATH default

- by jrdioko
I have a custom module in one of the directories in my PYTHONPATH with the same name as one of the standard library modules, so that when I import module_name, that module gets loaded. If I want to use the original standard library module, is there any way to force Python to import from the standard library rather than from the PYTHONPATH directory, short of renaming the custom module and changing every reference to point to the new name?

• wrong operator() overload called

- by user313202
okay, I am writing a matrix class and have overloaded the function call operator twice. The core of the matrix is a 2D double array. I am using the MinGW GCC compiler called from a windows console. the first overload is meant to return a double from the array (for viewing an element). the second overload is meant to return a reference to a location in the array (for changing the data in that location. double operator()(int row, int col) const ; //allows view of element double &operator()(int row, int col); //allows assignment of element I am writing a testing routine and have discovered that the "viewing" overload never gets called. for some reason the compiler "defaults" to calling the overload that returns a reference when the following printf() statement is used. fprintf(outp, "%6.2f\t", testMatD(i,j)); I understand that I'm insulting the gods by writing my own matrix class without using vectors and testing with C I/O functions. I will be punished thoroughly in the afterlife, no need to do it here. Ultimately I'd like to know what is going on here and how to fix it. I'd prefer to use the cleaner looking operator overloads rather than member functions. Any ideas? -Cal the matrix class: irrelevant code omitted class Matrix { public: double getElement(int row, int col)const; //returns the element at row,col //operator overloads double operator()(int row, int col) const ; //allows view of element double &operator()(int row, int col); //allows assignment of element private: //data members double **array; //pointer to data array }; double Matrix::getElement(int row, int col)const{ //transform indices into true coordinates (from sorted coordinates //only row needs to be transformed (user can only sort by row) row = sortedArray[row]; result = array[usrZeroRow+row][usrZeroCol+col]; return result; } //operator overloads double Matrix::operator()(int row, int col) const { //this overload is used when viewing an element return getElement(row,col); } double &Matrix::operator()(int row, int col){ //this overload is used when placing an element return array[row+usrZeroRow][col+usrZeroCol]; } The testing program: irrelevant code omitted int main(void){ FILE *outp; outp = fopen("test_output.txt", "w+"); Matrix testMatD(5,7); //construct 5x7 matrix //some initializations omitted fprintf(outp, "%6.2f\t", testMatD(i,j)); //calls the wrong overload }

• How to dynamically load & unload a TinyMCE Plugin

- by Matt Simpson
Does anyone know if there is a way I can dynamically load and unload a TinyMCE plugin after TinyMCE has already been loaded? Specifically, I'm thinking about asking the user whether or not they wish to load the fullpage plugin using perhaps a radio button or something above TinyMCE: Enable Fullpage Plugin
Disable Fullpage Plugin
... I suppose I could destroy the original instance and load a new config (one for enabled / one for disabled), but it seems as though there should be a more elegant way of loading and unloading plugins.

• Adding Java packages to GWT

- by Organiccat
I've tried searching but couldn't come up with a defined way on how to add your own packages to a GWT project. My tree structure looks like this: -com.mycompany -public MyApplication.html MyApplication.gwt.xml -com.mycompany.client MyApp.java -com.mycompany.gui TableLayout.java The answer I've seen out there says to add the packages relative to the root directory of the gwt.xml file, like so: <module> <inherits name="com.google.gwt.user.User" /> <entry-point class="com.mycompany.client.MyApp" /> </module> It then complains: Unable to find type 'com.technicon.client.MyApp' Hint: Previous compiler errors may have made this type unavailable Hint: Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

• Is POSTing a Dictionary to an .NET MVC action possible?

- by Brenton Alker
I have a form which contains a series of fields like: ... Where the index of the User array (123 and 456) are ID's associated with the value. I'm trying to update these values in the controller. My thinking is that a Dictionary that maps ID to name would work, but creating the action like: public void Save(Dictionary<string, string> user) { // ... } results in the user parameter being null. So, is passing a Dictionary possible? or, is there another method to achieve this?

• Thoughts/Input about Database Design for a CMS

- by dallasclark
I'm just about to expand the functionality of our own CMS but was thinking of restructuring the database to make it simpler to add/edit data types and values. Currently, the CMS is quite flat - the CMS requires a field in the database for every type of stored value (manually created). The first option that comes to mind is simply a table which keeps the data types (ie: Address 1, Suburb, Email Address etc) and another table which holds values for each of these data types. Just like how Wordpress keeps values in the 'options' table, PHP serialize would be used to store an array of values. The second option is how Drupal works, the CMS creates tables for every data type. Unlike Wordpress, this can be a bit of an overkill but really useful for SQL queries when ordering and grouping by a particular value. What's everyone's thoughts?

• Watching a variable for changes without polling.

- by milkfilk
I'm using a framework called Processing which is basically a Java applet. It has the ability to do key events because Applet can. You can also roll your own callbacks of sorts into the parent. I'm not doing that right now and maybe that's the solution. For now, I'm looking for a more POJO solution. So I wrote some examples to illustrate my question. Please ignore using key events on the command line (console). Certainly this would be a very clean solution but it's not possible on the command line and my actual app isn't a command line app. In fact, a key event would be a good solution for me but I'm trying to understand events and polling beyond just keyboard specific problems. Both these examples flip a boolean. When the boolean flips, I want to fire something once. I could wrap the boolean in an Object so if the Object changes, I could fire an event too. I just don't want to poll with an if() statement unnecessarily. import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; /* * Example of checking a variable for changes. * Uses dumb if() and polls continuously. */ public class NotAvoidingPolling { public static void main(String[] args) { boolean typedA = false; String input = ""; System.out.println("Type 'a' please."); while (true) { InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr); try { input = br.readLine(); } catch (IOException ioException) { System.out.println("IO Error."); System.exit(1); } // contrived state change logic if (input.equals("a")) { typedA = true; } else { typedA = false; } // problem: this is polling. if (typedA) System.out.println("Typed 'a'."); } } } Running this outputs: Type 'a' please. a Typed 'a'. On some forums people suggested using an Observer. And although this decouples the event handler from class being observed, I still have an if() on a forever loop. import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStreamReader; import java.util.Observable; import java.util.Observer; /* * Example of checking a variable for changes. * This uses an observer to decouple the handler feedback * out of the main() but still is polling. */ public class ObserverStillPolling { boolean typedA = false; public static void main(String[] args) { // this ObserverStillPolling o = new ObserverStillPolling(); final MyEvent myEvent = new MyEvent(o); final MyHandler myHandler = new MyHandler(); myEvent.addObserver(myHandler); // subscribe // watch for event forever Thread thread = new Thread(myEvent); thread.start(); System.out.println("Type 'a' please."); String input = ""; while (true) { InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr); try { input = br.readLine(); } catch (IOException ioException) { System.out.println("IO Error."); System.exit(1); } // contrived state change logic // but it's decoupled now because there's no handler here. if (input.equals("a")) { o.typedA = true; } } } } class MyEvent extends Observable implements Runnable { // boolean typedA; ObserverStillPolling o; public MyEvent(ObserverStillPolling o) { this.o = o; } public void run() { // watch the main forever while (true) { // event fire if (this.o.typedA) { setChanged(); // in reality, you'd pass something more useful notifyObservers("You just typed 'a'."); // reset this.o.typedA = false; } } } } class MyHandler implements Observer { public void update(Observable obj, Object arg) { // handle event if (arg instanceof String) { System.out.println("We received:" + (String) arg); } } } Running this outputs: Type 'a' please. a We received:You just typed 'a'. I'd be ok if the if() was a NOOP on the CPU. But it's really comparing every pass. I see real CPU load. This is as bad as polling. I can maybe throttle it back with a sleep or compare the elapsed time since last update but this is not event driven. It's just less polling. So how can I do this smarter? How can I watch a POJO for changes without polling? In C# there seems to be something interesting called properties. I'm not a C# guy so maybe this isn't as magical as I think. private void SendPropertyChanging(string property) { if (this.PropertyChanging != null) { this.PropertyChanging(this, new PropertyChangingEventArgs(property)); } }

• highlight parent window text when spell checking from child window

I'm working on a simple spell checking app for a lecture that I'm giving. I've got the basic spell checking code working just fine using a child form and NHunspell - great lib, by the way. However, I'd like for the parent textbox to show the highlighted text for reference, and while I'm setting the SelectedText properties accordingly, the text is not highlighted in the parent. Canceling the child window and the parent text is highlighted. Anybody know how I can do this?

All documentation I have seen refers to .NET or Java solutions, I was in doubt whether PHP can be used as access is performed using SOAP. I have found no further information about this, I assume the answer is yes, but wonder why there is not a single reference to this being possible - all solutions seem to be .NET Any suggestions? Thanks!

• arbitrary typed data in django model

- by Dmitry Shevchenko
I have a model, say, Item. I want to store arbitrary amount of attributes on it, like title, description, release_date. And i want them to be not just strings but have python type, so string, boolean, datetime etc. What are my options here? EAV pattern with separate name-value table won't work because of the same DB type across all values. JSONField can probably help, but it doesn't know about datetime, for example. Also i was looking at PickeField, it fits perfectly, but i'm a bit concerned about performance.
