    Hello, I've been tryin to find an example of the syntax for getting an html 'title' for a string when using Html.Encode(). I want to display the full name in the mouseover title, if it's too long. Is there a way to do this without wrapping the string in a < span , i.e. <span title = "<%=Html.Encode(model.Name) %>"> //displays the full name on mouseover <%=Html.Encode(model.Name.Substring(0, 10))%>... //displays the name up to a max length </span> Or should I just do it this way?   • Partial view postback from a standard Html form with MVC

    I have a file upload button on my MVC view. After the file is uploaded, my FileList partial view on the page should refresh. I tried to upload with Ajax.BeginForm(), but have discovered that Ajax will not submit file data. I've got the file upload working now by using the jQuery Form plugin, which lets you ajaxify the normal Html.BeginForm() submit method. Is is still possible to trigger the partial page update using this method?

  • Comparing lists of objects and update

    I have a view, passing a LIST of Originals to this method. Before the post happened, i changed some of the properties. I now receive the updated list as a parameter in my method and would like to update the database with these new values. [HttpPost] public ActionResult NewValue(Page model) { var ListOfOriginals = Session.Query<Original>().ToList(); //GETS the objects i want to update listOfOriginals = Model.Pages // Model.page is the new list containing the updated values RavenSession.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } When i debug, i can see that listOfOriginals gets the new values. The problem is that i dont know how to update the RavenDB whith these new values. I tried adding this: Session.Store(listOfOriginals) before the SaveChanges() but that resulted in an error. Maybe there is a much better way of doing this?

    ok, I'm working on a custom control that can contain some javascript, and read this out of the page into a string field. This is a workaround for dynamic javascript inside an updatepanel. At the moment, I've got it working, but if I try to put a server tag inside the block: <custom:control ID="Custom" runat="server"> <%= ControlName.ClientID %> </custom:control> The compiler does not like it. I know these are generated at runtime, and so might not be compatible with what I'm doing, but does anyone have any idea how I can get that working?     I have deployed one web project into Azure emulator. And I get this error saying that Could not load file or assembly Base. The thing is that this web project, got dependencies to another project in the same solution. I have added that dependency into the reference list of my web project. And if I run this web application without using the azure emulator it will run fine. But I will get error when I try to run it on the azure emulator. At first glance I thought that I maybe need to add the other project as role also. But it couldn't be that. Anyone know what the problem might be? I hope I got enough data for you to look into. The result from the autocomplete search yields a product id and a product description is concatenated with it (i.e. 2099 -- A Product).     Hi, I'm trying to access the values a user introduces in a table from my controller.     Does the original data type of the username string in a call to FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(...) make any difference with regards to security or code maintainability? As I understand it, the cookie is encrypted and used to identify a user on each request. I'm curious whether it should affect the design of the primary key on my Users table in my database, eg. Guid vs int or a unique username string.

    I've been playing with MVC 3 in a test project and have the following issue. I have Group & Subscriber entities and those are coupled through a SubscriberGroup table. Using the DetailView of Group I open a view of SubscriberGroup containing all subscribers. This list has the option to filter. So far it all works, however when I call the AddToGroup method on the controller it fails. Specifically it goes into the method but doesn't pass the subscriberCheckedModels list.     Hi all I am using the markitup editor to get the value for one of my fields and storing it a sql server 2008 db. Now I guess the problem is people having script tags and javascript in the editor and injecting malicious scripts and I have my validate input turned false. So can anyone suggest me a way to write a custom validation method that maybe checks for script tags and removes them...or just guide me through the steps i need to do ?...also are there other things also that I should be worried about..?

  • Support both Standard mode and Quirks mode? Is that possible and necessary?

    Today I was assigned a bug saying that some page elements don't work on IE8 Quirks mode at all, and I need to fix them. The point is that I believe our pages will always be rendered in Standard mode, because we specify DOCTYPE at the beginning of every page (via master page). I'd think it must be some debugging tools changed that during testing. I managed to convice QA to close it as by design, after a brief explanation to her. Now I start to think the question that whether we should have our page work on both Standard and Quirks mode. Maybe we should try to minimize the problem even if the page is not rendering in a supposed mode? Any standard or best practices on that? Thanks!

  • count(*) is it really expensive ?

    I have a page where i have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based of different tables. Now i get row count of each tabled using select count() from table query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. Now with each page post back 5 count() queries are executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting report. Now my question is should is count(*) query really expensive that i should keep the row counts (at least which are displayed on tab) in view state of page instead of queering each time? How much expensive it is ?

    We have a requirement where we need to allow users to dynamically create custom reports that will run against our database and return sets of data. It would be something similar to this: http://www.marcuswhitworth.com/2009/12/dynamic-linq-with-expression-trees/ but would ultimately contain the ability to create more complicated logic. I believe LINQ to Entities might possibly allow us to do something like we're attempting to achieve. I should note that these reports are going to need to run against multiple tables. Can anyone point me in the right direction for something like this? Has anyone done anything similar with LINQ to Entities?

    In our organization, we are still on .net 1.1 environment, using javascript, a few open source applications/widgets. Development is done using Visual Studio 2003, grid view, and iframes. Our application works in Internet Explorer 7 and IE 8 (in compatibilily mode). Can anyone give any basic steps we can take to get our application to work cross browsers? What are the starting locations we can get at to start making existing code work in different browsers?
