  • Involving kids into programing - which language? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: What are some good tools for introducing kids to programming? Long-long time ago I had a great book by Frank DaCosta about writing adventure games in Basic, it had a great influence on me. I would like to show the world of programming to my child too but I have two problems: I can not found books like DaCosta's (but we can replace it with our fantasy so not a big deal) Which programming language should I use?   • Who decides what category the software in the Ubuntu Software Centre is filed under, and who can we report errors to?

    I noticed when browsing through the Ubuntu Software Centre that some programs seem to be placed in the wrong categories, for example Pinta, an image editor, appears under Developer Tools (instead of Graphics) in my list of installed programs. Is this a case of the developer incorrectly categorising their software when they uploaded it to the software centre, or does Canonical decided what goes where? And if we notice an obvious mistake who do we inform, the software developer or file a bug somehow?

  • Can not authenticate to run GParted

    Whenever I try to run a program from gnome gui, I get message Authenticated is required to run the Gparted Partition Editor The same goes for all programs that need root permission and I try to run from 'System tools' in my gnome-fallback. However the same user can become root in gnome terminal with no problem (I added the user to sudoers). I must mention that I've changed the user's password after OS install, so I think I need to update something but don't know what. I appreciate your hints.

  • No WiFi after upgrading 12.04 kernel to 3.2.0-24-generic-pae

    I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. With the previous kernel everything was okay — until today's upgrade to 3.2.0-24-generic-pae. The device network tools show that my WiFi card is in an inactive state. How can I enable it? These commands don't work: sudo ifconfig wlan0 up sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart The last one returns some weird errors, brackets, tildes, ampersands like in some kind of a loop.

I'm using TweetStats.com to gather statistics at the moment, but the follower stats functionality isn't granular enough to determine the precise number of followers.     Hello, I'm trying to do a screen capture with gtk-recordmydesktop and other capture tools but for some reason, it will not capture an output screen while its running. It captures one screen but doesn't show the rest. I can capture my screen running if I use my flip camcorder but recordmydesktop will not work. Is there a way to capture live video playing on the desktop without using an outside camera? Brian

  • How do I install pgAdmin III for postgreSQL 9.2?

    I have a Windows server that runs postgresql 9.2. I want to hit it using pgAdmin III from my Ubuntu 12.10 workstation box. I installed pgAdmin III from synaptic and also tried direct download from postgreSQL site using software installer. Regardless, I can get only get pgAdmin III for postgresql 9.1. When I run pgAdmin III and point to my server I get an error message telling me that the database is 9.2 and my pgAdmin III is for 9.1, isn't compatible with 9.2. I can access the server itself fine OK from the Ubuntu box - I have Python programs that hit the database with no problems - but I need pgAdmin III for 9.2 running under Ubuntu 12.10. Is it available? Where do I get it?

    I would like to ask if there is any good program for ubuntu 12.04 to organize a library of books.I have to mention that I have books written on my native language (Greek) and I have books written in other languages like English,French,etc....So basically I need an application which can fetch information from databases for Greek books.For example add a Greek (ISBN) book database source and when I type the ISBN of the book in the program to find the book from that database/es.Do you know if this is possible?I have already tried Tellico and GCstar but they were unable to find books with Greek ISBN.I tried to add a Greek book source but my wasn't successful.
