  • Django development targeting both the Google App Engine and Py2Exe

    I must hand in a mostly static database-driven website on a topic on my choice by the end of June as both a hosted version live on the internet and a stored version on a cd-rom. "Ease of launching" is one of the bulletpoints for evaluation of the project. (Yeah, I know.) I and my project mate are currently comparing various frameworks and technologies to help us deliver and deploy this as quickly and painlessly as possible. Theoretically, by using Django, I can target the Google App Engine (which I guess would provide us reliable, free-as-in-beer hosting) or the Py2Exe system + SQLLite (which I guess would make starting the website server from disk as hard as doubleclicking on an .exe file). Sounds better than what PHP and MySQL can ever hope to bring me, right? However, we need to target both Py2Exe and the GAE. How much of the differencies between these wildly different configurations are hidden by Django? What will instead require special attention and possibly specialized code on my end?

    Is there a way getting all countries, states,cities zipcodes/ in one single database. I have been looking all over. I discovered geonames.org, which has I guess all of the content. But there is no way to fetch that data directly. I am using rails. If there any helpers or Plugins, it'd be great. It would be awesome if there is a complete resource in any parsable format which I can use to get this database in place. Please recommend if you any thanks I do have the iso country code list but no States for some countries. Thanks in advance

  • Webservice returning 403 error

    I'm wondering whether I'm receiving the 403 errors because there are too many attempted connections being made to the webservice. If this is the case how do I get around it? I've tried creating a new instance of InternalWebService each time and disposing of the old one but I get the same problem. I've disabled the firewall and the webservice is located locally at the moment. I beginning to think it may be a problem with the credentials but the control tree is populated via the webservice at some stage. If I browse to the webmethods in my browser I can run them all. I return an instance of the webservice from my login handler loginsession.cs: static LoginSession() { ... g_NavigatorWebService = new InternalWebService(); g_NavigatorWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; ... } public static InternalWebService NavigatorWebService { get { return g_NavigatorWebService; } } I have a tree view control which uses the webservice to populate itself.     A friend of mine has created a movie for my site, it's in .flv format. I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. Is there a way to play a video in the flash format through a non-flash player so that the content can be viewed on all devices? I'm open to any ideas. I have got as far as showing the correct list according to which radio button is clicked but cannot figure out how to hide the other lists that need to be hidden.   • How to get Tomcat Working on WIndows 7?

    I have installed Apache Tomcat 5.X/6.X on my Winodws 7 PC. After the installaiton the service starts fine when I check the Start Tomcat box and click finish. However If I try to start the tomcat configuration tool or monitor tool from the start menu I can not start any of the Tomcat's services. I get an error in a message box stating "Access Deined. Unable to open Tomcat 5.5". What seems to be the problem? and How can I solve it? Even restarting the PC won't help. I also have JDK and JRE installed. Turing the firewall doesn't work too. Please Help! Note that I'm running 32bit Version of Windows 7.

    I'm using the Details View control of VWD asp.net 2008 I have a users database table and one of the columns contain the "unique" user's profile ID, created by VWD from the automatic profiles table. From my table, I would like to select only the data pertaining to the logged in user. How do I get the current unique user profileID and then have that used for the query? What I have so far: In the configure data source option of the control I select the columns I would like to display, select the check box for "Return Only Unique IDs" and the WHERE option. In this new window I select the Column to the profile userID ... "=" and then assumed I should select Source: "Profile". Now what should the parameter properties or value be to select only the logged userID specific data of the table? Any help is appreciated. Thank You!

    I'm trying to create a chat room with emoticons. When a user types an emoticon such as :) in the chatroom, the CSS takes the proper image off the sprite sheet. But my code only seems to work in Opera and IE (odd combination). It doesn't show in Firefox or Chrome (if you manage to hone in exactly where the image should be, you can find the image blank.gif which is used as the stand-in to place the background-url over). Does anyone know what might cause this in Firefox/Chrome? Here is the challenge: The above code should work with very little modification or thinking required. Why must we put up with compromise when we know better?   • using IE credentials to log on with c#

    Hi i am writing a HTML parser for helping with some job duties, I can enter the site using IE explorer. but using csharp code i get an error i have tried using client.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; client.Proxy.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; i don't get the requested page, but an error page. if i can view page in explorer there must be a way to retrieve its html in C# (note that same page in other browsers requires authintication - not in IE) appreciate the help
