  • Using property file in hibernate mapping

    - by Zoltan Hamori
Hi, I have a two nodes environment using the same database. In the database there is a resource table like RESOURCE_ID, CODE, NODE The content of the NODE column can be 1 or 2 depending on which node can use it. As I need to deploy the same ear to the two nodes, I would like to map this table like this: <hibernate-mapping> <class name="ResourceVO" table="RESOURCE" dynamic-update="true" optimistic-lock="dirty" where="NODE=${node.value}" > I would like to store the node.value property on the file system, so the instances could identify which resource to use. Is it possible in hibernate?

  • Entity Framework doesn't like 0..1 to * relationships.

    - by Orion Adrian
I have a database framework where I have two tables. The first table has a single column that is an identity and primary key. The second table contains two columns. One is a nvarchar primary key and the other is a nullable foreign key to the first table. On the default import of the database I get the following error: Condition cannot be specified for Column member 'ForeignKeyId' because it is marked with a 'Computed' or 'Identity' StoreGeneratedPattern. where ForeignKeyId is the second foreign key reference in the second table. Is this just something the entity model doesn't do? Or am I missing something?

  • Most elegant way to morph this sequence

    - by Ed Woodcock
    Hi folks: I've got the Day of the week stored in a database table (that I do not control), and I need to use it in my code. Problem is, I want to use the System.DayOfWeek enum for representation for this, and the sequences are not the same. In the database, it's as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 S M T W T F S I need it as follows: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 M T W T F S S What's the most elegant way to do this? for example, I could do: i = dayOfWeek; i = i - 2; if (i < 0) { i = 6; } but that's a bit inelegant. Any suggestions?

  • asp.net application install folder

    - by Maximilian Csuk
Disclaimer: this is not a question about how to install asp.net or an application using it! Hi! I am pretty sure many of you have once installed some kind of forum, blog or CMS (mostly PHP powered applications). All of these contain a folder mostly named "install" where (after you copied the files to the webserver) point your browser to to complete the installation by entering for example database information (servername, username, password, ...). After that, most applications suggest that you delete this folder or at least change the permissions so nobody from the outside can access it anymore. Now to my question: how would you go about that in the asp.net world? I don't really like the "install folder"-approach and I thought there might be a different mechanism for .net/IIS. The person installing my application should be able to enter his database information as painless as possible, which should ultimatively be stored in the web.config file. If it makes a difference, I am using asp.net MVC. Thanks for your help!

  • Is it possible to use WIndows Speech Recognition Engine in a word pronounciation game?

    - by XBasic3000
I use to create an application that uses the windows speech recognition engine or the SAPI. its like a game for pronounciation that it give you score when you pronounce it correctly. but when i started experiments with SAPI, it has poor recognition unless if you load a grammar on it (XML) its give best recognition result. but the problem now is closest pronounciation from the input text will be recognize. for example: Database - dedebase - correct. even if you mispronounce it. it gives you correct answers. without using the xml grammar when you say database it give you "in the base/the base/data base/etc..." please post your answer, suggestion, clarication. votes for best answer. is it posible or not? by the way i use delphi compiler on the projects....

  • Jquery mouseover change background color problem

    - by Sergio
Jquery code: $(".menu_clickable").mouseover(function() { $(this).css({'background-color' : '#F00'}).mouseout(function(){ $(this).css({'background-color' : '#FFF'}); }); }); $(".menu_clickable").live('click', function() { $(this).css({'background-color' : '#FCC'}); }); HTML source: <div class="menu_clickable prof_info2" id="prof_info" >first</div> <div class="menu_clickable prof_info3" id="prof_info" >second</div> <div class="menu_clickable prof_info3" id="prof_info" >third</div> I'm trying to make the hover efect using Jquery and it is working fine but if I want to change the DIV background color when it's clicked it's not working, actually the clicked DIV change background color but it is stay like that while the cursor is on it. If I move it out it will restore the original background color. Why?

  • javascript too much recursion?

    - by Ken
Hi, I'm trying to make a script that automatically starts uploading after the data has been enter in the database(I need the autoId that the database makes to upload the file). When I run the javascript the scripts runs the php file but it fails calling the other php to upload the file. too much recursion setTimeout(testIfToegevoegd(),500); the script that gives the error send("/projects/backend/nieuwDeeltaak.php",'deeltaakNaam='+f.deeltaaknaam.value+'&beschrijving='+ f.beschrijving.value+'&startDatum='+f.startDatum.value+'&eindDatum='+f.eindDatum.value +'&deeltaakLeider='+f.leiderID.value+'&projectID='+f.projectID.value,id); function testIfToegevoegd(){ if(document.getElementById('resultaat').innerHTML == "<b>De deeltaak werd toegevoegd</b>"){ //stop met testen + upload file document.getElementById('nieuwDeeltaak').target = 'upload_target'; document.forms["nieuwDeeltaak"].submit() }else{ setTimeout(testIfToegevoegd(),500); } } testIfToegevoegd(); sorry for the dutch names we have to use them it is a school project. when I click the button that calls all this for a second time (after the error) it works fine.

  • How can I update a row and insert a new one automatically in NHibernate with one call to Save?

    - by snicker
Let's say I have a Type II SCD database, that is basically append only. I am using NHibernate to persist objects to my database. I have an object like so: Pony |- int Id |- Guid EntityId |- string PonyName |- string PonyColor |- int RevisionValidFrom |- int RevisionValidTo Here's a typical scenario: Pony myLittlePony = myStable.GetLatestPonyByGuid("0f1ac08a-3328-43db-b278-77c272e4fea3"); myLittlePony.PonyColor = "Fish"; myNHSession.Save(myLittlePony); I want to be able to call Session.Save(myLittlePony) and have NHibernate UPDATE the old entity's RevisionValidTo to whatever I specify and then INSERT the modified Pony as a new row with a new Id, basically as if it were a brand new object being persisted to the DB.

  • how to clone a project on heroku

    - by rails_guy
I have a project on heroku working fine. Now I want to create same project with different url (same code) as the one I have working now. So that I can give the new url to the customer as a 'test' site. I know in heroku i can just rename the url but I want to completely separate development from test (database wise). What is the best solution? Do I start from scratch? cd into new folder on my machine...clone project from github...make new database -test ...push to heroku...etc. etc.

  • Why Does Piping Binary Text to the Screen often Horck a Terminal

    - by Alan Storm
Imaginary Situation: You’ve used mysqldump to create a backup of a mysql database. This database has columns that are blobs. That means your “text” dump files contains both strings and binary data (binary data stored as strings?) If you cat this file to the screen $ cat dump.mysql you’ll often get unexpected results. The terminal will start beeping, and then the output finishes scrolling by you’ll often have garbage chacters entered on your terminal as through you’d typed them, and sometimes your prompts and anything you type will be garbage characters. Why does this happen? Put another way, I think I’m looking for an overview of what’s actually happening when you store binary strings into a file, and when you cat those files, and when the results of the cat are reported to the terminal, and any other steps I’m missing.

  • Case insensitive string compare in LINQ-to-SQL

    - by BlueMonkMN
I've read that it's unwise to use ToUpper and ToLower to perform case-insensitive string comparisons, but I see no alternative when it comes to LINQ-to-SQL. The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.) Dim s = From row In context.Table Where String.Compare(row.Name, "test", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) = 0 This translates to an SQL query that simply compares row.Name with "test" and will not return "Test" and "TEST" on a case-sensitive database.

  • Why is django admin not accepting Nullable foreign keys?

    - by p.g.l.hall
Here is a simplified version of one of my models: class ImportRule(models.Model): feed = models.ForeignKey(Feed) name = models.CharField(max_length=255) feed_provider_category = models.ForeignKey(FeedProviderCategory, null=True) target_subcategories = models.ManyToManyField(Subcategory) This class manages a rule for importing a list of items from a feed into the database. The admin system won't let me add an ImportRule without selecting a feed_provider_category despite it being declared in the model as nullable. The database (SQLite at the moment) even checks out ok: >>> .schema ... CREATE TABLE "someapp_importrule" ( "id" integer NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, "feed_id" integer NOT NULL REFERENCES "someapp_feed" ("id"), "name" varchar(255) NOT NULL, "feed_provider_category_id" integer REFERENCES "someapp_feedprovidercategory" ("id"), ); ... I can create the object in the python shell easily enough: f = Feed.objects.get(pk=1) i = ImportRule(name='test', feed=f) i.save() ...but the admin system won't let me edit it, of course. How can I get the admin to let me edit/create objects without specifying that foreign key?

  • Should I be concerned about performance with connections to multiple databases?

    - by Josh Ryan
I have a PHP app that is running on an Apache server with MySQL databases. Based on the subdomain that users access, I am connecting them to a database (sub1.domain.com connects to database_sub1 and sub2.domain.com connects to database_sub2). Right now there are 10 subdomain-database combos, but that number could potentially grow to well over 100. So, is this a bad thing? Considering my situation, is myslq_pconnect a better way to go? Thanks, and please let me know if more info would be helpful. Josh

  • How do I get the position of a result in the list after an order_by?

    - by Bob Bob
I'm trying to find an efficient way to find the rank of an object in the database related to it's score. My naive solution looks like this: rank = 0 for q in Model.objects.all().order_by('score'): if q.name == 'searching_for_this' return rank rank += 1 It should be possible to get the database to do the filtering, using order_by: Model.objects.all().order_by('score').filter(name='searching_for_this') But there doesn't seem to be a way to retrieve the index for the order_by step after the filter. Is there a better way to do this? (Using python/django and/or raw SQL.) My next thought is to pre-compute ranks on insert but that seems messy.

  • embed multiple youtube videos to chromeless player cue

    - by Quaze
So in the project ive been working on i use the youtube API to add a video to a chromeless player (got custom buttons, everything works no problems). It loads the youtube id which it gets from the database (Codeigniter, PHP). But what i would like to see is: instead of loading 1 video, id like to add all the videos i get from the database in the cue of that one player. So only one screen, first video retrieved from dbase gets played first, when its done second get loaded preferably also looped. Is there any way i can achieve this? My first guess would be to save the array with youtube id's somewhere and on state change (when the 'video stop'-event gets fired) load the next id from the array. Havent tried this yet because id prefer if the cue gets just gets filled on the init, so it doesnt have to load after a video has been ended. Is This possible?

  • Problem with datagridvieew in vb.net

    - by user225269
I'm trying to add a datagridview in vb.net, but it does not allow me to change the connection string or the database that should be imported to connect to it. The only thing that I'm seeing is the previous ms sql database that I connected with datagridview and everytime I click the new connection, the window closes and it leaves me with the datagridview with the previous connection that I have. And its not applicable because, now I want to connect it with mysql. Not ms sql. Its some sort of a cache like feature in vb.net, how do I get rid of it. so that I can add the new connection for mysql? Do I need to reinstall visual studio 2008?

  • the MVCC effect on migration from oracle to db2

    - by Ryan Fernandes
I have a simple (actually simplified :) ) scenario that is possibly the cause for the headache I've been having for the last few days... My current application (that serves 100's of users) currently uses Oracle as the database. I have no stored procs (I wish actually). Now, I've been asked if the product will work if I migrate to IBM DB2 as the database. So, after taking Oracle for granted all this while.... and having re-read Tom's article on MVCC (Multiversion Concurrency Control) and going through this post stating that DB2 is not 'on the list' or 'just tip-toeing in the area' as it were... I know I can't be sure that the product will work with DB2 as is. Is there no hope.. or is there a nice disclaimer I could use.. ?

  • Error in MySQL Workbench Forward Engineered Stored Procedures

    - by colithium
I am using MySQL Workbench (5.1.18 OSS rev 4456) to forward engineer a SQL CREATE script. For every stored procedure, the automatic process outputs something like: DELIMITER // USE DB_Name// DB_Name// DROP procedure IF EXISTS `DB_Name`.`SP_Name` // USE DB_Name// DB_Name// CREATE PROCEDURE `DB_Name`.`SP_Name` (id INT) BEGIN SELECT * FROM Table_Name WHERE Id = id; END// The two lines that are simply the database name followed by the delimiter are errors and are reported as such when running the script. As long as they are ignored, it looks like everything gets created just fine. But why would it add those lines? I am creating the database in the WAMP environment which uses MySQL 5.1.36

  • What is the Reason large sites don't use MySQL with ASP.NET?

    - by Luke101
I have read this article from highscalability about stackoverflow and other large websites. Many large high traffic .NET sites such as plentyoffish.com, mysapce and SO all use .NET technologies and use SQL SERver for their database. In the article it says SO said As you add more and more database servers the SQL Server license costs can be outrageous. So by starting scale up and gradually going scale out with non-open source software you can be in a world of financial hurt. I don't understand why don't high traffic .NET sites convert their databases to MySQL as it is waay cheaper then SQL Server

  • Can SQLAlchemy DateTime Objects Only Be Naive?

    - by Sean M
I am working with SQLAlchemy, and I'm not yet sure which database I'll use under it, so I want to remain as DB-agnostic as possible. How can I store a timezone-aware datetime object in the DB without tying myself to a specific database? Right now, I'm making sure that times are UTC before I store them in the DB, and converting to localized at display-time, but that feels inelegant and brittle. Is there a DB-agnostic way to get a timezone-aware datetime out of SQLAlchemy instead of getting naive datatime objects out of the DB?

  • Encoding issue with form and HTML Purifier / MySQL

    - by Andrew Heath
Driving me nuts... Page with form is encoded as Unicode (UTF-8) via: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> entry column in database is text utf8_unicode_ci copying text from a Word document with " in it, like this: “1922.” is insta-fail and ends up in the database as â??1922.â?? (typing new data into the form, including " works fine... it's cut and pasting from Word...) PHP steps behind the scenes are: grab value from POST run through HTML Purifier default settings run through mysql_real_escape_string insert query into dbase Help?

  • OOP function and if statement

    - by Luke
    Not sure if I can ask two questions? If i run the following function in my database class function generateUserArray() { $u = array(); $result = $this->selectAllUsers(); while( $row=mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $u[] = $row['username']; } return $u; } Would i call it like this? $u[] = $datebase->generateUserArray(); My second question, will this work: else if($database->addLeagueInformation($subname, $subformat, $subgame, $subseason, $subwindow, $subadmin, $subchampion, $subtype) && $databases->addLeagueTable($name) && $_SESSION['players'] == $subplayers && $comp_name = "$format_$game_$name_$season" && $_SESSION['comp_name'] = $comp_name) Thankyou

  • Is it safe to convert varchar and char into nvarchar and nchar in SQL Server?

    - by Svish
We currently have a number of columns in the database which are of type varchar. The application that uses them are in C# and it uses Linq2Sql for the communication (or what to call it). We would like to support unicode characters, which means we would have to convert the varchar columns into nvarchar. Is this a safe operation? Is it just a matter of changing the column type and updating the dbml file, or are there more stuff that needs to be done? Any changes in the C# code? Do I need to somehow convert the text that already exist in the database manually, or is it handled for me?

  • How sophisticated should be DAL?

    - by Andrew Florko
Basically, DAL (Data Access Layer) should provide simple CRUD (Create/Read/Update/Delete) methods but I always have a temptation to create more sophisticated methods in order to minimize database access roundtrips from Business Logic Layer. What do you think about following extensions to CRUD (most of them are OK I suppose): Read: GetById, GetByName, GetPaged, GetByFilter... e.t.c. methods Create: GetOrCreate methods (model entity is returned from DB or created if not found and returned), Create(lots-of-relations) instead of Create and multiple AssignTo methods calls Update: Merge methods (entities list are updated, created and deleted in one call) Delete: Delete(bool children) - optional children delete, Cleanup methods Where do you usually implement Entity Cache capabilities? DAL or BLL? (My choice is BLL, but I have seen DAL implementations also) Where is the boundary when you decide: this operation is too specific so I should implement it in Business Logic Layer as DAL multiple calls? I often found insufficient BLL operations that were implemented in dozen database roundtrips because developer was afraid to create a bit more sophisticated DAL. Thank you in advance!

  • Searching for patterns to create a TCP Connection Pool for high performance messaging

    - by JoeGeeky
I'm creating a new Client / Server application in C# and expect to have a fairly high rate of connections. That made me think of database connection pools which help mitigate the expense of creating and disposing connections between the client and database. I would like to create a similar capability for my application and haven't been able to find any good examples of how to apply this pattern. Do I really need to spin up an instance of a TcpClient every time I want to send a message to the server and receive a receipt message? Each connection is expected to transport between 1-5KB with each receiving a 1KB response message. I realize this question is somewhat vague, but I am starting from scratch so I am open to suggestions. Even if that means my suppositions are all wrong.
