  • Class inheritance in PHP 5.2: Overriding static variable in extension class?

    Hi, I need to bea be able to use a static variable set in a class that extends a base class... from the base class. Consider this: class Animal { public static $color = 'black'; public static function get_color() { return self::$color; } } class Dog { public static $color = 'brown'; } echo Animal::get_color(); // prints 'black' echo Dog::get_color(); // also prints 'black' This works wonderfully in PHP 5.3.x (Dog::get_color() prints 'brown') since it has late static binding. But my production server runs PHP 5.2.11 and so I need to adapt my script. Is there a somewhat pretty workaround to solve this issue? Cheers! Christoffer

    Hi I have a class called User and a method called insertUser(). function insertUser($first_name, $last_name, $user_name, $password, $email_address, $group_house_id) { $first_name = mysql_real_escape_string($first_name); $last_name = mysql_real_escape_string($last_name); $user_name = mysql_real_escape_string($user_name); $password = mysql_real_escape_string($password); $email_address = mysql_real_escape_string($email_address); $query = "INSERT INTO Users (FirstName,LastName,UserName,Password,EmailAddress, GroupHouseID) VALUES ('$first_name','$last_name','$user_name','$password','$email_address','$group_house_id')"; $mysql_query($query); } And I call it like this: $newUser = new User(); $newUser->insertUser($first_name, $last_name, $user_name, $email, $password, $group_house_id); When I run the code I get this error: Fatal error: Function name must be a string in /Library/WebServer/Documents/ORIOnline/includes/class_lib.php on line 33 Anyone know what I am doing wronly?   • ZipArchive php Class, would this be the best approach??

    Ok, just wondering on the versions of PHP that this class is built into. And if they are built into all platforms (OS's). I'm wanting an approach to search through a zip file and place files using file_put_contents in different filepaths within the webroot. In any case, I'm familiar with how to do this with the ZipArchive class, but I'm wondering if using this class would be a good solution and support MOST, if not ALL servers?? I mean, I'd rather not use a method that requires the Server to have it installed. I'm looking for a solution to this that will support at least MOST servers without having to install the class... Thanks :) Also, I'd like to support opening tar.gz and/or .tgz files if possible, but I don't think the ZipArchive class supports this, but perhaps a different built-in php class does??

I have Class A and while creating an instance of it am passing file and in constructor of Class A am opening the file. Now in Class A, there is function which I need to call but am not required to pass file and so there is not need to use constructor functionality of opening file as am not passing file.     I have a bit of a problem with ffmpeg-php. I'm trying to get some information from video files and it works pretty fine with file formats like .avi, .mpg or .flv but when I try to use .3gp or .mp4 in: $movie = new ffmpeg_movie('path/to/file/test.3gp'); I get error like this : ffmpeg_movie::__construct() []: ISO: File Type Major Brand: 3gp5 or ffmpeg_movie::__construct() []: ISO: File Type Major Brand: mp42 I installed ffmpeg-php on WAMP using instructions found here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1172916/how-to-install-ffmpeg-in-wampserver-2-0-windows-xp I need those information to send them to ffmpeg using exec(). Anyone could help me with this?

  • Retreiving data from MySQL with html/javaScript on one domain and the PHP file on the other

    I need to retrieve data from a MySQL database, and have it work one way for all types of servers. For example it should work on a server that runs no server side language, it should also work on LAMP, and IIS. I was thinking about using ajax and xmlhttprequest, but learned of the cross domain limitation. I also tried to just include the PHP in a tag, but it comes back with a syntax error in the HTML code created by the PHP file, even though it looks correct. Does anyone know how to fix either of these issues, or have a different way to go about it?

    I have a php program that has been written keeping in mind a single server, so there are inherent limitation to how much it can handle. For example, the developer says that his current webhosting service provides him with "50 mysql connections" which he interprets as that only 50 people can be simultaneously logged onto it. What do we need to do if we want to scale it up so it can handle a load of 500 or more? How can we adapt this program to a "load balancer" with minimal changes? The application is writen in php and uses mysql.

  • How can I get PHP to compile a LaTeX document if it (www-data) can't get access to the required packages?

    I have a PHP script that compiles LaTeX documents with the use of: exec('cd /path/to/doc && /usr/bin/latexmk -pdf filename.tex'); This is working for some of my LaTeX documents but my latest document doesn't compile and a look at the log reveals: !pdfTeX error: pdflatex (file ecrm1000): Font ecrm1000 at 600 not found ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Which I have found is the result of LaTeX not being able to see the required font packages. When I run the same compile command under my username the document compiles as it should. So my question is, how can I get PHP (executing as www-data) to get access to the necessary LaTeX packages? I have tried installing the required package under the www-data account using: sudo -u www-data sudo apt-get install texlive-fonts-recommended but it askes for www-data's password, which I don't believe was set by me and isn't anything I've thrown at it. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 if it's any help.
