I'm getting this error while bringing up my network card:
(process:2550): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting
'State' for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3: (19)
Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist
I'm using the following commands:
1. ifup eth1
2. /etc/init.d/network restart
I have installed a fresh copy of Centos 6.2 and configured the network card.
When I use tab completion in Powershell to complete a relative path Powershell converts it into an absolute one. While the absolute paths work it's getting kind of annoying (making my commands really long and making me reshift my focus when I autocomplete). Is there any way to change it to keep the relative paths when tab completing?
I am trying to write a hotkey to minimize the current window.
My current attempt is below and it does nothing. I can't see how to make commands like WinMinimize act on the currently acitve window.
<^>!z::
WinMinimize,
return
I have the following commands in /etc/rc.local
chmod 666 /dev/fuse
chmod +x /usr/bin/fusermount
/bin/su someuser -c "/usr/bin/sshfs someuser@someserver:/usr/local/storage /usr/local/storage_remote -o nonempty -o reconnect"
If I run them from command line, as root, they work.
If I reboot the server they won't run from /etc/rc.local.
I try to figure out what I do wrong but I don't have console access and I couldn't find any errors in /var/log related to sshfs.
What's the best terminal editor to suggest to a unix newbie? i.e. not vim or emacs.
There are a few editors, joe, nano, etc. Some have easy to remember commands / keyboard shortcuts, others don't.
I'm looking for an editor that one could talk someone through over the phone with, for remote sysadminning.
I am getting the following errors when I execute some commands on Solaris 10.
couldn't set locale correctly
Output of locale command-
LANG=en_US
LC_CTYPE="C"
LC_NUMERIC="C"
LC_TIME="C"
LC_COLLATE="C"
LC_MONETARY="C"
LC_MESSAGES="C"
LC_ALL=
Does LC_ALL need to be set? I don't have root on this machine.. can I specify locale in my rc files?
I have an old HP parallel port printer that is not supported by Vista. No drivers I've found online work with it.
As a last ditch effort, I was hoping to find some generic postscript drivers for Vista x64 in the hopes that the printer will accept those commands.
Does anyone know where I could come by such drivers?
Hi,
I need to mass disable interfaces on windows machines (more than 100 machines).
I tried using:
netsh interface set "VirtualBox Host-Only Network" disable
But it does not work. (I found an article describing that it works on win 2003 server).
I can run commands remotely with psexec.
Do you have any hints?
Thanks in advance!
I've been unable to do a fresh install of XBMC Live 9.11 to my hard drive. Everytime it fails at the Install System step. But I am able to get XBMC Live 9.04.1 to install successfully.
How do I upgrade XBMC Live 9.04.1 to 9.11?
I understand that Ctrl+Shift+F2 brings up the command line, but what are the next set of commands to run?
How can I associate a UID to a specific username on IBM z/OS Unix System Services?
Within USS, I see content created in my user space which I do not own. File ownership lists a three digit numerical value, rather than a userid, which I presume to be a UID. I've unsuccessfully attempted to make a username association using commands:
tsocmd "search class(USER) uid(###)"
tsocmd "rlist unixmap u### all"
Hi all
I'm following this tutorial to set up a LAMP stack on EC2 with persistent storage on EBS. It all works well when doing it step by step.
But in case you want to mount your EBS under /mnt instead of under the root directory the
ln -s
commands won't work!
I tried:
ln -s /mnt/ebs1/httpd /etc
and:
ln -s /mnt/ebs1/httpd /etc/httpd
Is there a difference when linking to a file on a device that is mounted under /mnt?
(working on fedora core 8)
Hi.
I want to run some commands every time a user of an ubuntu 9.10 machine logs out or shuts down. What is the best way to do this? Every user uses gnome if that helps.
I've seen this happen on 2 different HP laptops now. If I try to use them in the same room as a Media Center, the MCE TV remote keeps sending commands to the laptop. This can do anything from wake it up and turn it on to just moving the selection around.
There is no obvious way to disable the IR sensor or at least its response to the remote. Does anyone know how to do this?
i wonder if there is a good software that will run commands with voice recognition?
eg. if i say "delete temporary folder" it will delete that folder.
if i say "find symfony folder" it will find folder named symfony.
im running mac.
thanks
Hello, I have a tor runned on my computer. In Vidalia (gui-frontend) there is a button: 'Use a new identity'. This will change last point of connecting in Tor-network. Are there any commands which I can send to the 9051 port (configure-port) to use randomly any another server?
I have a sequence of images 001.png 002.png 003.png that I would like to combine into an animation.
I used the following command
convert -dispose 3 -loop 0 *.png out.gif
And it looks ok. However, when I tried this
convert -dispose 3 -loop 0 "001.png" "002.png" "003.png" out2.gif
out2.gif was not as "smooth" as out.gif.
Why is there a difference in the output between the two commands, which seem to mean the same thing?
Hi,
We are organizing a Linux 101 Workshop for undergrad and grad students. Can you share some ideas/topics that are must for people who are just starting with Linux.
Preconditions: No knowledge of Linux OS, philosophy and technical aspects (kernel, shell, commands)
Post conditions: A basic crash course of Linux which will give them a good start and answer some basic questions asked on it.
If I have a specific file in a UNIX filesystem, is there a way to use bash to find all links to that file, both symbolic and hard? If I need different commands for each, what are they?
Hi Guys,
I use rsh to execute some commands in a remote server .
if the command or the parameters of the command is valid , everything goes smoothly . but
if the command is not valid or the parameters of the command is not valid nothing returned from rsh.
so does anyone of you explain why does it happen ? thanks.

I would like my TrueCrypt virtual drive to act as a newly inserted USB drive or CD/DVD by executing commands in the partition's autorun.inf file.
I've read several suggestions online including creating a .bat file or installing software so Windows will think this is a CD, but I'd like to know the easiest and least intrusive way to pull it off. i.e. I want to keep from installing or messing with the host computer as much as possible, as this is intended to be a fully portable drive.
