• Why does Java automatically decode %2F in URI encoded filenames?

  I have a java servlet that needs to write out files that have a user-configurable name. I am trying to use URI encoding to properly escape special characters, but the JRE appears to automatically convert encoded forward slashes (%2F) into path separators. Example: File dir = new File("C:\Documents and Setting\username\temp"); String fn = "Top 1/2.pdf"; URI uri = new URI( dir.toURI().toASCIIString() + URLEncoder.encoder( fn, "UTF-8" ).toString() ); File out = new File( uri ); System.out.println( dir.toURI().toASCIIString() ); System.out.println( URLEncoder.encoder( fn, "UTF-8" ).toString() ); System.out.println( uri.toASCIIString() ); System.out.println( output.toURI().toASCIIString() ); The output is: file:/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/username/temp/ Top+1%2F2.pdf file:/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/username/temp/Top+1%2F2.pdf file:/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/username/temp/Top+1/2.pdf After the new File object is instantiated, the %2F sequence is automatically converted to a forward slash and I end up with an incorrect path. Does anybody know the proper way to approach this issue? The core of the problem seems to be that uri.equals( new File(uri).toURI() ) == FALSE when there is a '%2F' in the URI. I'm planning to just use the URLEncoded string verbatim rather than trying to use the File(uri) constructor.

• File Locked by Services (after service code reading the text file)

  I have a windows services written in C# .NET. The service is running on a internal timer, every time the interval hits, it will go and try to read this log file into a String. My issue is every time the log file is read, the service seem to lock the log file. The lock on that log file will continue until I stop the windows service. At the same time the service is checking the log file, the same log file needs to be continuously updated by another program. If the file lock is on, the other program could not update the log file. • Can Scala be considered a functional superset of Java?

  Apart from the differences in syntax, can Scala be considered a superset of Java that adds the functional paradigm to the object-oriented paradigm? Or are there any major features in Java for which there is no direct Scala equivalent? With major features I mean program constructs that would force me to heavily rewrite / restructure my code, e.g., if I had to port a Java program to Scala.   Parleys.com, a 2012 Duke's Choice Award winner, is an E-Learning platform that host content from different sources (conferences, JUGs meetings, etc.). There is a lot of technical content available for online but also offline consumption, including many sessions on Java EE. Parleys has just released, for free, all the Devoxx 2011 sessions (video and slides sync'ed!). From a technical point of view, Parleys.com is interesting as they have switched from Spring to Java EE 6 to avoid being locked in a proprietary framework. During the GlassFish Community BoF, Stephan Janssen (Parleys.com and Devoxx founder) also presented how GlassFish is used to support 2000 concurrent Parleys users over a cluster of 2 GlassFish instances. Talking about Java EE and/or Spring, Harshad Oak has posted an update on the 'Spring Vs. Java EE' panel discussion that took place on Tuesday. As Arun said standards such as Java EE does not necessarily refrain innovation: "JBoss Forge & Arquillian from RedHat are great examples of innovation in the JavaEE community. Standardization is important but innovation does continue even within that framework." Simplicity, productivity along with HTML5 are the driving themes of Java EE 7. • How to determine if a file will be logically moved or physically moved.

  The facts: When a file is moved, there's two possibilities: The source and destination file are on the same partition and only the file system index is updated The source and destination are on two different file system and the file need to be moved byte per byte. (aka copy on move) The question: How can I determine if a file will be either logically or physically moved ? I'm transferring large files (700+ megs) and would adopt a different behaviors for each situation. Edit: I've already coded a moving file dialog with a worker thread that perform the blocking io call to copy the file a meg at a time. It provide information to the user like rough estimate of the remaining time and transfer rate. The problem is: how do I know if the file can be moved logically before trying to move it physically ?

There is a version.txt file in the \testserver\testapp$ folder and the only contents of this file is the build number (eg 45 - for build 45) How do I read the contents of the version.txt file into a variable in the batch file? How do I check if a file \fileserver\myapp\releasedocs\ {build}.doc exists using the variable from part 1 in place of {build}?

• Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

  So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem.   Hi there, the swt file dialog will give me an empty result array if I select too much files (approx. 2500files). The listing shows you how I use this dialog. If i select too many sound files, the syso will show 0. Debugging tells me, that the files array is empty in this case. Is there any way to get this work? • C Remove the first line from a text file without rewriting file

  Hi, I've got a service which runs all the time and also keeps a log file. It basically adds new lines to the log file every few seconds. I'm written a small file which reads these lines and then parses them to various actions. The question I have is how can I delete the lines which I have already parsed from the log file without disrupting the writing of the log file by the service? Usually when I need to delete a line in a file then I open the original one and a temporary one and then I just write all the lines to the temp file except the original which I want to delete. Obviously this method will not word here. So how do I go about deleting them ?

  Hi, I bought a vps for hosting my java needs. But I can't run java on it. I don't think this is a java centered problem, Out of memory for sure. I contacted the vps admin, but he says everything is fine, you have 2gb ram, expandable to 4gb! Follow the instruction to install Java ME SDK Plug-ins. 3. Once completed, you will see new menu options. For example, you can find Device Selector under Tools - Java ME. (If you used old version of Java ME, you will notice that there is not 'Java ME' menu any more. This is because all the sub-menus were integrated into appropriate places in NetBeans.) There is one thing to keep in mind; Since NetBeans 7.1.1 already includes Java ME SDK 3.0.5 and Java ME SDK 3.0.5 plug-ins must be installed through NetBeans plug-in menu, you should not download Java ME SDK 3.0.5 separately and try to integrate it with NetBeans.
