How will Qt 5.0 be packaged for Raring?

Note: as per the FAQ, "Issues with the next version of Ubuntu" may not be asked as questions here but in my opinion, this is not an issue but merely a question asking about policy. If you feel this question is off-topic, please leave a comment explaining why or open a question on Meta.AU. How will Qt 5.0 be packaged for Ubuntu when it is released? Currently, the name of the package for installing the Qt 4.8 core libraries is: libqt4-core Will the equivalent package for the next version of Qt (5.0) be named libqt5-core? If not, what will the package be named? Will the existing Qt 4.8 libraries coexist with the Qt 5.0 equivalents for the foreseeable future or will they be removed? The Qt 5.0 beta 2 PPA contains a lot of packages - few of which seem to correspond with existing package names. If someone can provide me with a link to a policy outlining the Qt 5.0 migration plan, that would be awesome.

Virtualbox will run from 32bit installation CD but not 64bit.

I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.

Maximized Office 2007 gets cut off on multi-monitor setup with different resolutions

I've got an external monitor plugged into my laptop that I like to use for typing up documents, but I've noticed that when Word is maximized it gets cut off at where the primary monitor's bounds are. Is this a bug in Wine (i'm using version 1.3.32), or with my Window Manager (metacity with compositing enabled, version 2.34.1), with my graphics drivers (nouveau) or something else? I know that I can fix it by unmaximizing (it doesn't get cut off and I can resize to the entirety of the second monitor), but it keeps on maximizing itself as it (rightly so) knows that it should be taking up the entire screen. I don't really want to use the "Emulate a virtual desktop feature", I would prefer to find the source of this issue.

Developer – Cross-Platform: Fact or Fiction?

His team is responsible for the development and delivery of leading software products for performance-centric application developers spanning Android*, Windows*, and OS* X operating systems. During his 17-year career at Intel, Jeff has held various technical and management positions in the fields of media, graphics, and validation. He also served as the technical assistant to Intel’s CTO. He holds 20 patents and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. It’s not a homogenous world. We all know it. I have a Windows* desktop, a MacBook Air*, an Android phone, and my kids are 100% Apple. We used to have 2.5 kids, now we have 2.5 devices. And we all agree that diversity is great, unless you’re a developer trying to prioritize the limited hours in the day. Then it’s a series of trade-offs. Do we become brand loyalists for Google or Apple or Microsoft? Do we specialize on phones and tablets or still consider the 300M+ PC shipments a year when we make our decisions on where to spend our time and resources? We weigh the platform options, monetization opportunities, APIs, and distribution models. Too often, I see developers choose one platform, or write to the lowest common denominator, which limits their reach and market success. But who wants to be ?me too”? Cross-platform coding is possible in some environments, for some applications, for some level of innovation—but it’s not all-inclusive, yet. There are some tricks of the trade to develop cross-platform, including using languages and environments that ?run everywhere.” HTML5 is today’s answer for web-enabled platforms. However, it’s not a panacea, especially if your app requires the ultimate performance or native UI look and feel. There are other cross-platform frameworks that address the presentation layer of your application. But for those apps that have a preponderance of native code (e.g., highly-tuned C/C++ loops), there aren’t tons of solutions today to help with code reuse across these platforms using consistent tools and libraries. As we move forward with interim solutions, they’ll improve and become more robust, based, in no small part, on our input. What’s your answer to the cross-platform challenge? Its my please to announce that JSR 356 – Java API for WebSocket maintenance release ballot vote finished with majority of “yes” votes (actually, only one eligible voter did not vote, all other votes were “yeses”). New release is maintenance release and it addresses only one issue: WEBSOCKET_SPEC-226. What changed in the 1.1? Version 1.1 is fully backwards compatible with version 1.0, there are only two methods added to javax.websocket.Session: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 /** * Register to handle to incoming messages in this conversation. Short and not precise version: to support Lambda expressions as MessageHandlers. Longer and slightly more precise explanation: old Session#addMessageHandler method (which is still there and works as it worked till now) does rely on getting the generic parameter during the runtime, which is not (always) possible. The unfortunate part is that it works for some common cases and the expert group did not catch this issue before 1.0 release because of that. The issue is really clearly visible when Lambdas are used as message handlers: 1 2 3 session.addMessageHandler(message -> { System.out.println("### Received: " + message); }); There is no way for the JSR 356 implementation to get the type of the used Lambda expression, thus this call will always result in an exception. Since all modern IDEs do recommend to use Lambda expressions when possible and MessageHandler interfaces are single method interfaces, it basically just scream “use Lambdas” all over the place but when you do that, the application will fail during runtime. Only solution we currently have is to explicitly provide the type of registered MessageHandler. (There might be another sometime in the future when generic type reification is introduced, but that is not going to happen soon enough). So the example above will then be: 1 2 3 session.addMessageHandler(String.class, message -> { System.out.println("### Received: " + message); }); and voila, it works. There are some limitations – you cannot do 1 List<String>.class , so you will need to encapsulate these types when you want to use them in MessageHandler implementation (something like “class MyType extends ArrayList<String>”). There is no better way how to solve this issue, because Java currently does not provide good way how to describe generic types. The api itself is available on maven central, look for javax.websocket:javax.websocket-api:1.1. The reference implementation is project Tyrus, which implements WebSocket API 1.1 from version 1.8.

Atheros Wireless card shows up as two different models?

Hi I've been fighting these wireless drivers for a few days and just recently i noticed that the model the Wireless controller appears in lspci is different sometimes. This is the data i have after installing Ubuntu Server 64 bit ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01) Subsystem: AzureWave Device 1d89 Kernel driver in use: ath9k Kernel modules: ath9k ran some updates, restarted, all was good, all though it did say that linux-headers-server linux-image-server linux-server where beeing kept back. After that i installed ubuntu-desktop (aptitude install ubuntu-desktop --without-recommends) restarted and not only is the wireless not working anymore, but the hardware is listed as a different card ~# lspci -k .... 04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. What are the advantages of a $ SKU of VS2012 over Express?

I will be using Visual Studio only for creating C#/XAML Windows Store apps. Is there any reason for me to purchase a "Professional" SKU of VS 2012 rather than just using the Express (free) "Metro apps with C#/XAML" version? The only thing I can think of is that I won't be able to use Resharper in the Express version (which I've already purchased a license for, but I use it at work, so that won't be a waste of money if I can't use it at home) - plus, I believe that even the Express SKU of VS 2012 will have similar code quality utility built in.

Create Texture of Width, Height, Pixel Format Map texture memory Loop write pixels Unmap texture memory Set Texture Render Right now though it renders as if the entire texture is black. I can't find a reliable source for information on how to do this though. Almost every tutorial I've found just uses glTexSubImage2D and passes a pointer to memory. Repeated disconnects on WPA PEAP network

My school has a WPA PEAP network with GTC inner authentication. I am able to connect to the network, but once I load a website or two, the network become unresponsive (i.e. in Chromium, it gets stuck at "Sending request"), and I'm eventually disconnected. SOA Suite 11g (11.1.1.3): Creating a single server domain with SOA Suite and Oracle Service Bus func

One of the major benefits of the latest version of the Oracle SOA products, SOA Suite 11gR1 PS2 (11.1.1.3) and Oracle Service Bus 11gR1 (11.1.1.3), is that both products depend on the same version of WebLogic Server 11g (10.3.3) and so can be installed in the same domain. If you are a developer building artifacts for both but with a laptop/desktop with limited resources then this is particularly useful, as you can install a single server domain (by default you get a domain with an admin server and multiple managed servers) which incorporates both sets of functionality. The viewlet below shows you how to go about creating such a single server domain, using the configuration wizard. Just click the Play button from the viewlet menu to start it. Note: As you have added all this functionality into a single server, it will take a few minutes to start up. Do Not Uninstall Flag on Apt?

Does the Debian/Ubuntu package infrastructure has some way of marking packages so that they never get uninstalled, no matter the pinning of other packages? My problem is that, sometimes, packages installed by Puppet (coming from non-standard repositories, of course) cause other packages to get uninstalled -- in particular, openssh-{server,client}. The way this happens is that package A and B depend on different versions of package C. If A is installed and one asks to install B, then the version of C changes. The new version of C is incompatible with A, so A gets uninstalled. The funny thing is that the process is then reversed, as, on the next run, Puppet notices that A is not installed and tries to install it. So, basically, I want to make sure A never gets uninstalled, which would prevent B from getting installed. That would be reported as an error, making me aware of the issue. If anyone cares, Puppet uses the following command to install packages: /usr/bin/apt-get -q -y -o DPkg::Options::=--force-confold install <package>

SQL SERVER – Backup SQL databases to Box or SkyDrive

To ensure your SQL Server or Azure databases remain safe, you should backup your databases periodically. And it is important to store the backups in a reliable location. Microsoft SkyDrive currently offers 7GB free, Box offers 5GB free – both are reliable and it is simple to send your backups there. SQLBackupAndFTP in it’s latest version 9 added the option to backup to SkyDrive and Box ( in addition to local/network folder, NAS drive, FTP, Dropbox, Google Drive and Amazon S3). Just select the databases that you’d like to backup and select to store the backups in SkyDrive or Box. Below I will show you how to do it in details Select databases to backup First connect to your SQL Server or Azure Sql Database. Then select the databases you’d like to backup. Connect to SkyDrive or Box cloud If you have a free version of SQLBackupAndFTP Box destination is included, but SkyDrive destination will be disabled as it is available in the Standard version or above. Click “Try now” to get 30 days trial on all options On the “SkyDrive Settings” form you’ll need to authorize SQLBackupAndFTP to access your SkyDrive. Click “Authorize…” to open SkyDrive authorization page in your browser, sign in your to SkyDrive account and click at “Allow” . On the next page you will see the field with authorization code. Copy it to the clipboard. Box operation is just the same. After that return to SQLBackupAndFTP, paste the authorization code and click “OK” . After you are authorized, you can enter the path to a backup folder. SQLBackupAndFTP will create the folder if it does not exist. That’s all what has to be done to backup to SkyDrive or Box cloud. You can now click on “Run Now” button to test this job. Conclusion Whatever is your preference for storing SQL backups, it is easy with SQLBackupAndFTP. Installing VMware 8.0.2 64bit Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit BETA My Kernel version is: 3.2.0-20-generic pst007x@pst007x-Aspire-5741:~$ sudo sh VMware-Workstation-Full-8.0.2- 591240.x86_64.bundle Installs ok When I launch I am asked to install modules which are compiled and loaded into the running kernel. A window opens VMware Kernel Module Updater This fails on Virtual Network Device ERROR LOG. UPDATE: PATCH. Future of a ServiceStack based Solution in the Context of Licensing

I just want someone to clarify the following questions as Demis Bellot had announced a couple of weeks ago that ServiceStack would go commercial. Refer link below. https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z12tfvoackvnx1xzd04cfrirpvybu1nje54 (Please note that when I say ServiceStack or SS I refer to all associated SS libraries such as ServiceStack.Text, etc.) If I have a solution already developed using ServiceStack today will I have to purchase a license once SS goes commercial even if I don't upgrade the SS binaries to the commercial release version? Will previous versions of SS (prior to commercial licensing) always be opensource and use the same license as before? If I fork SS today (prior to commercial licensing) on Github, would it be illegal to maintain that after SS goes commercial? If the answer to question 2 is yes, then would I still be able to fork a previous version after SS goes commercial without worrying about the commercial license (all the while maintaining and releasing the source to the public)?

Error installing Windows7 64 bits on VirtualBox

I am trying to set up Windows in Virtual Box, so I don't need to reboot in the rare occasion that I actually need it. The problem is, Virtual Box doesn't preform any errors when I insert the 32bit installation CD but when I try to use the 64bit installation; What!? I am already using the installation disc! I've checked my BIOS to see if I have SVM (AMD's version of VT) disabled and all I see is "Enabled" I have a K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard A Triple Core AMD Athlon II A Nvdia NForce 430 integrated graphics card 4GB of RAM An 80GB IDE And a 1TB SATA I don't think the last three specifications matter but just in case XP I am pretty sure the CD isn't broken ( I am going to make sure in just a moment ), what could be the cause to this problem? Edit: The 64bit installation CD is not broken, but I found out when trying to install from the 32bit version that it's trying to upgrade, not preform a fresh install - Odd.
