  • How to get the list of country names in a language (english for instance)?

    - by fabien7474
    Using Java, you can get the list of ISO2 codes through Locale.getISOCountries() (see this related question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/712231/best-way-to-get-a-list-of-countries-in-java). However, I would like to have the list of all country names (in English for example) and not the list of ISO2 country codes. How can I do that by programming in Java or Groovy ? Thank you very much, Fabien.

  • php error message "Notice: Undefined index: aid"

    - by iaagty
    I'm looking for a complete list of security guidelines for programming and deploying PHP web sites and applications on an Apache (Linux) server. Basically, a "security check list" to run through before finishing a project. I.e., Cross Site Scripting Cross Site Request Forgery Sanitize form data that goes into database Disable register globals and error reporting in custom php.ini Upload files below web root ...(the list goes on) I did some searching on the internet and in this forum, but couldn't find a comprehensive, succinct, and complete list of guidelines. Thanks in advance.

  • Add a List<object> to EF

    - by Billdr
    I'm playing around with EF, trying to get my bearings. Right now I'm writing a blackjack game for a website. The problem is that my whenever I pull a GameState from the database, the playerHand, dealerHand, theDeck, and dealerHidden properties are null. public class GameState { [Key] [DatabaseGeneratedAttribute(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)] public int gameSession { get; set; } public int playerScore { get; set; } public int dealerScore { get; set; } public Deck theDeck { get; set; } public List<Cards> playerHand { get; set; } public List<Cards> dealerHand { get; set; } public Cards dealerHidden { get; set; } public bool gameOver { get; set; } } public class Cards { [Key] [DatabaseGenerated(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)] public int cardId { get; set; } public string cardName { get; set; } public int cardValue { get; set; } } public class GameStateContext : DbContext { public GameStateContext() : base("MyContext") { } protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder) { modelBuilder.Entity<GameState>().HasRequired(e => e.theDeck); modelBuilder.Entity<GameState>().HasRequired(e => e.dealerHand).WithMany().WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<GameState>().HasRequired(e => e.playerHand).WithMany().WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<GameState>().HasOptional(e => e.dealerHidden); modelBuilder.Entity<Deck>().HasRequired(e => e.cards).WithMany().WillCascadeOnDelete(false); base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder); } public DbSet<GameState> GameStates { get; set; } public DbSet<Deck> Decks { get; set; } public DbSet<Card> Cards { get; set; } } The cards and deck table are populated. Where am I going wrong?

  • Sending messages between two Python servers

    - by Will
    I have two servers - one Django, the other likely to be written in Python - and one is putting 'tasks' into a database and another is processing these tasks. They share a database, but I want the processor to react quickly to new tasks rather than polling periodically. Are there any straightforward ways for two Python servers to talk to one another, or does the task processor have to have web-hooks or something? It feels there ought to be a blessed way to do this...

  • VB6 code for Reading/Writing Windows Registry values

    - by Clay Nichols
    I'm looking for a good example of reading and writing to the Windows Registry using VB6. Yes, I know there are lots of mediocre examples. I spent an hour googling and testing. Some were incredibly complex, others had only some of the functions, and almost none of it had been vetted in any way (voted on). Since Stack Overflow is intended to the canonical location for answers to programming questions, it seems reasonable to post it here.

  • Printing Two Dimensional Array in Special Format

    - by user554313
    Hello everybody, I am working in a small task that allow the user to enter the regions of any country and store them in one array. Also, each time he enters a region, the system will ask him to enter the neighbours of that entered region and store these neighbours. I did the whole task but I have a small problem: I could not be able to print each region and its neighbours like the following format: Region A: neighbour1 neighbour2 Region B: neighbour1 neighbour2 For example, let us take USA map. I want to print the result as following: Washington D.C: Texas, Florida, Oregon and so on. My code is: import java.io.*; import java.util.Arrays; import java.util.Scanner; public class Test7{public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner kb = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.print("Please enter the number of regions: "); int REGION_COUNT = kb.nextInt(); String[] regionNames = new String[REGION_COUNT]; String[][] regions = new String[REGION_COUNT][2]; for (int r = 0; r < regions.length; r++) { System.out.print("Please enter the name of region #" + (r + 1) + ": "); regionNames[r] = kb.next(); System.out .print("How many neighbors for region #" + (r + 1) + ": "); if (kb.hasNextInt()) { int size = kb.nextInt(); regions[r] = new String[size]; for (int n = 0; n < size; n++) { System.out.print("Please enter the neighbour #" + (n) + ": "); regions[r][n] = kb.next(); } } else System.exit(0); } for (int i = 0; i < REGION_COUNT; i++) { System.out.print(regionNames[i] +": "); for (int k = 0; k < 2; k++) { System.out.print(regions[i][k]+", "); } System.out.println(); } } }

  • Store request.headers in a serialized model attribute

    - by Horace Loeb
    Here's my model: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base serialize :request_headers end But when I try to do @comment.request_headers = request.headers I get a TypeError (can't dump anonymous class Class) exception. Another way to ask my question: how can I convert request.headers into a Hash? It uses a Hash under the covers so this should be easy, no?

  • Passing arguments to scope_procedure in searchlogic

    - by Greg
    I'd like to use searchlogic's scope_procedure feature like so class MyModelObject < ActiveRecord::Base scope_procedure :my_scope_proc, lambda { |p1, p2| { :conditions => "p1 >= #{p1} AND p2 < #{p2}" }} end Then, I am doing the search: scope = MyModelObject.search(:my_scope_proc => true) scope.all The above code obviously doesn't work because I didn't pass p1 and p2 parameters to my named scope. I can't figure out how to pass parameters to the named scope.

  • Manipulate data in the DB query or in the code

    - by DrDro
    How do you decide on which side you perform your data manipulation when you can either do it in the code or in the query ? When you need to display a date in a specific format for example. Do you retrieve the desired format directly in the sql query or you retrieve the date then format it through the code ? What helps you to decide : performance, best practice, preference in SQL vs the code language, complexity of the task... ?

Should I look into frameworks like django, seaside, ruby on rails, etc at first or wait until I am more experienced to use those?
