  • extra AuthorizationRule in web.config AuthorizationSection

    - by H07R0D
I'm trying to modify the list of allowed users in web.config from a codebehind. <authorization> <allow users="alice, bob"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> I successfully retrieve the section I need config = WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("~"); authSection = (AuthorizationSection)config.GetSection("system.web/authorization"); When I iterate looking for the allow rule, I get two of them. foreach (AuthorizationRule rule in authSection.Rules) { if (rule.Action == AuthorizationRuleAction.Allow) { // manage the Users StringCollection } } The first item I get has 'alice' and 'bob' in the Users collection. The SECOND item I get has * Where is this second entry coming from? This is an Allow Rule, not a Deny rule. I could understand the * from a Deny rule. Is there some extra inheritance I'm not aware of?

  • Retrieving information with Python's urllib from a page that is done via __doPostBack()?

    - by Omar
I'm trying to parse a page that has different sections that are loaded with a Javascript __doPostBack() function. An example of a link is: javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMain$ucOemSchPicker$dlSch$ctl03$btnSch','') As soon as this is clicked, the browser doesn't fetch a new URL but a section of webpage is updated to reflect new information. What would I pass into a urllib function to complete the operation?

  • is it better to test if a function is needed inside or outside of it?

    - by b0x0rz
what is the best practice? call a function then return if you test for something, or test for something then call? i prefer the test inside of function because it makes an easier viewing of what functions are called. for example: protected void Application_BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.FixURLCosmetics(); } and private void FixURLCosmetics() { HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current; if (!context.Request.HttpMethod.ToString().Equals("GET", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase)) { // if not a GET method cancel url cosmetics return; }; string url = context.Request.RawUrl.ToString(); bool doRedirect = false; // remove > default.aspx if (url.EndsWith("/default.aspx", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase)) { url = url.Substring(0, url.Length - 12); doRedirect = true; } // remove > www if (url.Contains("//www")) { url = url.Replace("//www", "//"); doRedirect = true; } // redirect if necessary if (doRedirect) { context.Response.Redirect(url); } } is this good: if (!context.Request.HttpMethod.ToString().Equals("GET", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase)) { // if not a GET method cancel url cosmetics return; }; or should that test be done in Application_BeginRequest? what is better? thnx

  • How do I write sql data into a textbox after a submit type event

    - by Matt
    Finishing up some homework and Im having trouble with figuring out how to take information generated in sql column(a primary key set up to assign a record number to a customer example 1046) at submit and writing it to my redirected recipt page. I call it recipt.aspx. Any takers Professor says to use a datareader...but things go bad after that. public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { String cnStr = "EDITED FOR THE PURPOSE OF NOT DISPLAYED SQL SERVERta Source=111.11.111.11; uid=xxxxxxx; password=xxxx; database=xxxxxx; "; String insertStr; SqlDataReader reader; SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(); protected void submitbutton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { myConnection.ConnectionString = cnStr; try { //more magic happens as myConnection opens myConnection.Open(); insertStr = "insert into connectAssignment values ('" + TextBox2.Text + "','" + TextBox3.Text + "','" + TextBox4.Text + "','" + TextBox5.Text + "','" + bigtextthing.Text + "','" + DropDownList1.SelectedItem.Value + "')"; //magic happens as Connection string is assigned to connection object and passes in the SQL statment //associate the command to the the myConnection connection object SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(insertStr, myConnection); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); Session["passmyvalue1"] = TextBox2.Text; Session["passmyvalue2"] = TextBox3.Text; Session["passmyvalue3"] = TextBox4.Text; Session["passmyvalue4"] = TextBox5.Text; Session["passmyvalue5"] = bigtextthing.Text; Session["I NEED SOME HELP RIGHT HERE"] =Textbox6.Text; Response.Redirect("receipt.aspx"); } catch { bigtextthing.Text = "Error submitting" + "Possible casues: Internet is down,server is down, check your settings!"; } finally { myConnection.Close(); TextBox2.Text = ""; TextBox3.Text = ""; TextBox4.Text = ""; TextBox5.Text = ""; bigtextthing.Text = ""; } //reset validators? } The recipt page public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if(Session["passmyvalue1"] != null) { TextBox1.Text = (string)Session["passmyvalue1"]; TextBox2.Text = (string)Session["passmyvalue2"]; TextBox3.Text = (string)Session["passmyvalue3"]; TextBox4.Text = (string)Session["passmyvalue4"]; TextBox5.Text = (string)Session["passmyvalue5"]; TextBox6.Text = I don't know ; } } } THanks for the help

  • multiple validation errors showing up for single property

    - by Dave K
i'm often getting multiple errors showing up for an individual property, when I'd like them to be prioritized, as in, if Required is satisfied, check StringLength, but if Required fails, show that message only. I'm getting inconsistent behavior here, and I'm curious as to how the framework determines this priority? has anyone else had problems with this? Thanks!

  • Developping an online music store

    - by Simon
We need to develop an application to sell music online. No need to specify that all will be done quite legally and in so doing, we have to plan an interface to pay artists. However, we are confronted with a question: What is the best way to store music on the server? Should we save it on server's disk from a HTTP fileupload? Should we save via FTP or would it be wiser to save it in the database? No need to say that we need it to be the most safiest as possible. So maybe an https is required here. But, we what you think is the best way? Maybe other idea? Because in all HTTP case, upload songs (for administration) is quite long and boring, but easly linkable to a song that admin create in his web application comparativly to an FTP application to upload song on server and then list directory in admin part to link the correct uploaded song to the song informations in database. I know that its maybe not quite clear, it's because i'm french but tell me and I will try to explain part that you don't understand.

  • What's the best practice or design pattern for user registration ?

    - by Space Cracker
We have a big portal that needs user registration to allow them use its services. It's already done in .NET and SOL Server 2005. we are in the phase now of discovering all the problems of the current registration system to build a new robust flexible one that can be extended easily and can be more usable for all services. Could any help me find best practices and design patterns to help me rebuild this using good architectural practices?

  • Loading/Displaying large amount of data on webpage.

    - by jb
I have a webpage which contains a table for displaying a large amount of data (on average from 2,000 to 10,000 rows). This page takes a long time to load/render. Which is understandable. The problem is, while the page is loading the PCs memory usage skyrockets (500mb on my test system is in use by iexplorer) and the whole PC grinds to a halt until it has finished, which can take a minute or two. IE hangs until it is complete, switching to another running program is the same. I need to fix this - and ideally i want to accomplish 2 things: 1) Load individual parts of the page seperately. So the page can render initially without the large data table. A loading div will be placed there until it is ready. 2) Dont use up so much memory or local resources while rendering - so at least they can use a different tab/application at the same time. How would I go about doing both or either of these? I'm an applications programmer by trade so i am still a little fizzy on the things I can do in a web environment. Cheers all.

    - by Noam Smadja
i have a database, with verses from the bible, with those fields: book (book number), chapter (chapter number), verse (verse number), text (the verse) example: 1 1 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. first 1 is for Genesis, second 1 is for chapter 1, third 1 is for verse 1 user gives me something like 1 1:1 - 1 1:4 which means he wants to show Genesis 1:1-4. what i want to do is something like SELECT book*100000+chapter*1000+verse AS index FROM bible WHERE index >= 1001001 AND index <=1001004 or WHERE book*100000+chapter*1000+verse >= 1001001 AND book*100000+chapter*1000+verse <= 1001004

  • What is the easiest way to get the property value from a passed lambda expression in an extension me

    - by Andrew Siemer
I am writing a dirty little extension method for HtmlHelper so that I can say something like HtmlHelper.WysiwygFor(lambda) and display the CKEditor. I have this working currently but it seems a bit more cumbersome than I would prefer. I am hoping that there is a more straight forward way of doing this. Here is what I have so far. public static MvcHtmlString WysiwygFor<TModel, TProperty>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> helper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression) { return MvcHtmlString.Create(string.Concat("<textarea class=\"ckeditor\" cols=\"80\" id=\"", expression.MemberName(), "\" name=\"editor1\" rows=\"10\">", GetValue(helper, expression), "</textarea>")); } private static string GetValue<TModel, TProperty>(HtmlHelper<TModel> helper, Expression<Func<TModel, TProperty>> expression) { MemberExpression body = (MemberExpression)expression.Body; string propertyName = body.Member.Name; TModel model = helper.ViewData.Model; string value = typeof(TModel).GetProperty(propertyName).GetValue(model, null).ToString(); return value; } private static string MemberName<T, V>(this Expression<Func<T, V>> expression) { var memberExpression = expression.Body as MemberExpression; if (memberExpression == null) throw new InvalidOperationException("Expression must be a member expression"); return memberExpression.Member.Name; } Thanks!

  • Unit testing an MVC action method with a Cache dependency?

    - by Steve
I’m relatively new to testing and MVC and came across a sticking point today. I’m attempting to test an action method that has a dependency on HttpContext.Current.Cache and wanted to know the best practice for achieving the “low coupling” to allow for easy testing. Here's what I've got so far... public class CacheHandler : ICacheHandler { public IList<Section3ListItem> StateList { get { return (List<Section3ListItem>)HttpContext.Current.Cache["StateList"]; } set { HttpContext.Current.Cache["StateList"] = value; } } ... I then access it like such... I'm using Castle for my IoC. public class ProfileController : ControllerBase { private readonly ISection3Repository _repository; private readonly ICacheHandler _cache; public ProfileController(ISection3Repository repository, ICacheHandler cacheHandler) { _repository = repository; _cache = cacheHandler; } [UserIdFilter] public ActionResult PersonalInfo(Guid userId) { if (_cache.StateList == null) _cache.StateList = _repository.GetLookupValues((int)ELookupKey.States).ToList(); ... Then in my unit tests I am able to mock up ICacheHandler. Would this be considered a 'best practice' and does anyone have any suggestions for other approaches? Thanks in advance. Cheers

  • How do I manage report paging in HTML?

    - by ProfK
I have a small, custom crafted HTML report, not using any reporting engine, for various reasons. The client's layout is quite handy, as each report section fits on its own page, so I have one div for each page, with a CSS class of .page, setting A4 dimensions with margin, and a header image. Each 'page' also has a small header table just under the header image, and a section heading label. Now, some sections threaten to overflow their page, and I'm looking at ways to handle this. One clumsy approach is to include a second page for those sections that might overflow, and delete these pages before rendering if they are empty. If I do this, how can I 'tell' content on one page to overflow into the next page? The report is finished and a once off effort, so I'm not keen to convert it into a SSRS or Telerik report just to achieve this paging.

  • I can't get RedirectToAction to work

    - by DaveDev
I have the following Action Method that I'm trying to redirect from if the user is valid. But nothing happens. The breakpoint in the redirected-to action method never gets hit. [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Login(User user) { try { if (ModelState.IsValid) { if (userRepository.ValidUser(user)) { return RedirectToAction("Index", "Group"); } else { return Json("Invalid"); } } } catch (Exception) { return Json("Invalid"); } } And in another Controller, I have the following Action Method that I'm trying to redirect to: // HttpVerbs.Post doesn't work either [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] public ActionResult Index(int? page) { const int pageSize = 10; IEnumerable<Group> groups = GetGroups(); var paginatedGroups = new PaginatedList<Group>(groups, page ?? 0, pageSize); return View(paginatedGroups); } private IEnumerable<Group> GetGroups() { return groupRepository.GetGroups(); } Is there anything obviously wrong with what I'm doing? Could somebody suggest a different approach I could take?

  • jeditable table cell

    - by user666262
Hi all, I am having an issue when using jeditable to edit a cell in a table. The project is the MVC 2 web application and the table has been put on the standard about page. How do i tell the script to call a specific method in the controller ? because it is currently just loading the entire page into the cell. This is the javascript: $(document).ready(function () { $('.editable').editable('http://localhost:2196/Home/About', { type: 'text', cancel: 'Cancel', event: 'dblclick', submit: 'OK', tooltip: 'double Click to edit...' }); }); This is the table : <% foreach (DataTableEditable.Models.Company item in (IEnumerable<DataTableEditable.Models.Company>)Model) {%> <tr id="<%= Html.Encode(item.ID) %>"> <td class="editable"><%= Html.Encode(item.Name) %> </td> <td><%= Html.Encode(item.Address) %> </td> <td><%= Html.Encode(item.Town) %> </td> </tr> <% }%> Thanks lots John

  • Radio buttons being reset in FF on cache-refresh

    - by Andrew Song
(This is technically an addendum to an earlier StackOverflow question I had posted, but my original post asked a different question which doesn't really cover this topic -- I don't want to edit my older question as I feel this is different enough to merit its own page) While browsing my website in Firefox 3.5 (and only FF3.5), I come across a page with two radio buttons that have the following HTML code: <input id="check1" type="radio" value="True" name="check" checked="checked"/> <input id="check2" type="radio" value="False" name="check"/> This page renders as expected, with 'check1' checked and 'check2' unchecked. When I then go to refresh the page by pressing Control + R, the two radio buttons render, but they are both unchecked even though the raw HTML code is the same (as above). If I do a cache-miss refresh (via Control + F5 or Control + Shift + R), the page returns back to the way you'd expect it. This is not a problem in any other browser I've tried except FF3.5. What is causing these radio buttons to be reset on a normal refresh? How can I avoid this?
