    I can see libfreeimage3-dev in synaptic and have installed it from there, but what is it that I can't see it from the command line?   • How to get rid of resume information on ubuntu 9.10 ("karmic")

    I am on an old laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 installed. I once tried to not shutdown but go into one of the resume states. On the next power on, resume did not work, but there was an error message during boot asking me for the resume image (which I do not have or know of) and when I press enter the normal boot happens. But this error pops up on every boot now. How can I get back the behaviour from before? Why does the boot process guess there would be a resume image and can I delete this information? I would like to post here the error messages from the boot proces, but they are not in /var/log/syslog, where else can they be?

    Hi all, I have just setup two servers running 10.04 server and have installed the ubuntu-desktop as follows: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop The problem is even though it says it has installed it will not auto-start... I've tried this: sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.conf /etc/init/gdm.disabled sudo mv /etc/init/gdm.disabled /etc/init/gdm.conf To enable/disable it but still not joy. Any ideas? Thanks, Ben

  • Exim4 delivery to parent domain.

    I've set up an ubuntu server 9.1 system with exim4 as a relay for e-mail on my network. I've told exim that it is part of a subdomain: sub.domain.com I can test and deliver messages fine to my gmail accounts. I cannot get exim4 to sent messages to [email protected] though. The error received in the logs shows that exim thinks it should be delivering messages for domain.com to localhost instead of the actual MX for domain.com Is there an easy way to modify the debconf update-exim4.conf.conf so that is has the relay_to_domains capability?

  • Machine freezes when configuring dual display on Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic)

    Hi - I'm trying to configure dual displays on an Ubuntu 9.10 machine. When I connect the 2 screens (1 VGA input, the other DVI), I see them in a mirrored display. I opened up Display Settings and unchecked the 'mirror screens' box, and when I clicked apply, the machine froze and I had to force restart it. This happened repeatedly for about 6 times until I gave up. How do I set it up to boot up normally with dual display working? thanks. edit: I thought it might be related to the virtual screen size, so I tried to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf to add: SubSection "Display" Virtual 2560 1024 EndSubSection But that didn't do much. Each screen works fine on it's own, and together with mirrored display.

  • After installing Meld on 32-bit Karmic on 64-bit machine: "Meld requires pygtk 2.8.0 or higher."

    I got this error after installing Meld on a new Karmic installation: ~$ meld No module named pygtk Meld requires pygtk 2.8.0 or higher. I installed the latest version of python-gtk with aptitude but I'm not sure what version is actually installed. My python version is 2.6. This is weird because I have another machine that runs Karmic and Meld without a problem. The only difference between the two machines is the one with the error is a 64-bit machine running a 32-bit installation of Karmic. Could that be the problem?

  • How to keep Ubuntu 11.10 and Kate editor w/terminal from changing command line when changing tabs?

    I am programming C using Kate editor in Ubuntu 11.10. It works great, but when I change tabs in Kate, the terminal line changes to the file path of the tab I click on. Normally this is not a big deal (other than annoyingly adding extra text to my terminal) however if I am currently RUNNNING a C program, it obviously will type at the command line, which is not so cool. Example terminal window for my C program (its at a menu): 1) select opt 1 2) select opt 2 Enter choice: (here it waits for prompt from user) Now when I click a tab in Kate, it wants to put in the cd / path of the file in that tab, such as: cd /home/user/os/files And of course since my terminal was waiting for prompt from user it gets that command.. not good. Perhaps there is no fix, but maybe someone knows? Obviously I could choose NOT to switch tabs or end program before switching tabs... Note: I probably made the mistake of putting this under StackOverflow which is more of a programming area - so though repost here might be best (I am not sure how to link the questions but will paste hyperlink to that post - I dont want to violate any stackoverflow/superuser violations) Suggestions on merging them are welcome or if I should delete one?   • Moving from Ubuntu desktop to Ubuntu Server via SSH

    So a little while ago I installed regular Ubuntu for a home server, but that gave me a lot of extra packages. What I should have done was to install Ubuntu Server, since I don't even own a screen to connect to it. Does anybody know of a way to convert my Ubuntu machine to a Ubuntu Server machine in one big swoop? It has to be done over SSH, since I don't have a screen to connect to it, like I said. It's currently running 9.10, about to be upgraded to 10.4.

    My stunnel implementation works fine when the network is plugged in but it takes an awful amount of time, which delays the whole boot process, when there is no network connected to the machine.   • Apache2, Tomcat6, and proxy redirects

    So here is my question - go easy and slow. I'm a GIS Consultant and general hack with linux. I inherited this volunteer job essentially because I knew more than the rest of the team - or the rest of the team isn't as stubborn as I am... With that said a number of people have been mucking around in the server before I got involved so I've been cleaning up a lot of things. The domain names have been changed to protect the innocent. I have a server running Apache2 (port 80) and tomcat6 (8080) running on ubuntu server 10.4. There is a virtual host on Apache2 called "Runner" (the domain is runner.org). I have mod_proxy loaded. I am trying to redirect everyone that visits runner.org to http://some.ip.address:8080/openrunner-webapp/ So far I've gotten runner.org assigned to the apache2 server. Someone set up a redirect in the httpd.conf file but I believe it needs to go into the virtualhost. I tried setting the redirect in the virtualhost as: *ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/openrunner-webapp All that does is show me the root of the Apache webserver. Anyway I'm stuck
