• Why can't GoogleBot forget a 404 File Does Not Exist?

  Hi folks, For two months now, googlebot is trying to get a file which does not exist anymore. This is just one example out of many: I had renamed the file to a better name and removed the old file. Now, why does Google insist on getting a file which it already has seen does not exist for months? doesn't it just give up and get on being a happy bot? My Error log file is filled with these repeating lines all wanting to get that one file, although they know for already long time that its not there: What to do in these situations? Are there automatic redirection rules that handle via 301 to the home page? • When would you put a semicolon after a method closing brace?

  I've been programming in Java for a while, and I've just come across this syntax for the first time: public Object getSomething(){return something;}; What's interesting me is the final semicolon. It doesn't seem to be causing a compiler error, and as far as I know isn't generating runtime errors, so it seems to be valid syntax. When would I use this syntax? Or is it just something that is allowed but generally not used?

  Is there any way to get MacVim to scroll more smoothly TextMate style? While I'm here, is there a syntax file I can edit to add syntax highlighting to files? I have Velocity .vhtml files which are largely regular HTML with a bit of VTL thrown in. If I could just add .vhtml as an extension to the HTML syntax highlighter that would already make things 10x better.

  I am not able to start Windows and am using a DVD copy of Ubuntu to start up. I see my 750 GB Hard Disk, but if I click it i get this error: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details.   Am using mysgit for windows, but mysgit vi editor is unable to do syntax highlighting and indentation for my source code (html/python/css .... files) I managed to copy the syntax folder from my original GVIM7.2 installation to Git Vim72 installation folder, now i see like syntax highlighting is active. What am unable to do is indentation. I have tried to copy the ftplugin folder from my GVim7.2 installation to Git Vim72 folder but still no indentation.   Why is nesting or piggybacking errors within errors bad in general? To me it seems bad intuitively, but I'm suspicious in that I cannot adequately articulate why it is bad. This may be because it is not in general bad and that it is only bad in specific instances. Why is it detrimental to design error/exception handling in such a way. The specific instance is that of a REST service. There is a desire by some to use http errors (specifically the 500 response) as a way to indicate any problem with specific instances of a resource. An example of an instance resource in this case would be: http://server/ticket/80 # instance http://server/ticket # not an instance So this is the behavior that is being proposed. If ticket 80 does not exist return a http response code of 500. Within the body of the error return the "real" error as an additional error code and description. If the ticket resource doesn't exist return a response code of 404.

• setting syntax on in vim with large C file makes complete very slow

  when I have syntax on in a large C file (about 8000) lines the completion ctrl-p and ctrl-n are very slow (more than 20). When I turn syntax off then completion takes less than a second. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks! EDIT: I figured out a minimal way of reproducing this behaviour: with an empty .vimrc and .vim folder the only changed settings are :set syntax on :set foldmethod=syntax and a large C file to edit, completion (and even general editing) becomes very very slow.
