  • Importing a spreadsheet, but having trouble.

    - by Chris Phelps
    I have a form that allows a user to import a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is generally static when it comes to column headers, but now the users want to be able to include an optional column (called Notes). My code crashes when I try to read the column from the spreadsheet if it doesn't exist. Dim objCommand As New OleDbCommand() objCommand = ExcelConnection() 'function that opens spreadsheet and returns objCommand Dim reader As OleDbDataReader reader = objCommand.ExecuteReader() While reader.Read() Dim Employee As String = Convert.ToString(reader("User")) Dim SerialNUM As String = Convert.ToString(reader("serialno")) **Dim Notes As String = Convert.ToString(reader("notes"))** If the spreadsheet contains a Notes column, all goes well. If not, crash. How can I check to see if the Notes column exists in the spreadsheet to avoid the crash?

  • Extension method not working if I set controller property in Action, works in OnExecuting

    - by Blankman
    I have a class MyController that inherits from Controller, so all my controllers inherit from MyController. I have a property in MyController: public class MyController : Controller { public string SomeProperty {get;set;} } if I set this property in MyController's OnExecuting method, my HtmlHelper extension method works fine: public static string SomeExtension(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); string result = ""; var controller = htmlHelper.ViewContext.Controller as MyController; if (controller != null) { result = controller.SomeProperty; } return result; } it doesn't work if I set 'SomeProperty' in my controllers action method. I guess because I am doing 'as MyController' in the extension method? is there a way for it to work in both situations? I am using the value of SomeProperty to be outputted on my view pages.

  • Parantheses around method invokation: why is the compiler complaining about assignment?

    - by polygenelubricants
    I know why the following code doesn't compile: public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { main((null)); // this is fine! (main(null)); // this is NOT! } } What I'm wondering is why my compiler (javac 1.6.0_17, Windows version) is complaining "The left hand side of an assignment must be a variable". I'd expect something like "Don't put parantheses around a method invokation, dummy!", instead. So why is the compiler making a totally unhelpful complaint about something that is blatantly irrelevant? Is this the result of an ambiguity in the grammar? A bug in the compiler? If it's the former, could you design a language such that a compiler would never be so off-base about a syntax error like this?

    - by lfx
    Hi, I developing program witch have to write some data in file whom are stored in network computer witch are protected by password. Now I'm doing this way - open connection with cmd then write data. static bool ConnectToSrv() { String myUser = "domain.local\\user"; String myPass = "pwd"; String cmdString = "net use \\\\otherPC\\folder\\ /user:" + myUser + " " + myPass; try { ManagementClass processClass = new ManagementClass("Win32_Process"); object[] methodArgs = { cmdString, null, null, 0 }; object result = processClass.InvokeMethod("Create", methodArgs); return true; } catch (System.Exception error) { return false; } } public void writeDate(string data){ } I believe there must by better way. • How can I leverage String constants in an XML file?

    - by jayshao
    I'd like to enforce standardized keys by storing them as static final String variables on a Java class, and either referencing or statically importing them, to use them as values in either XML, Strings, Methods, Annotations, etc. Does anyone know a good way to have Maven insert (like filtering) values like StringKeys.SOME_KEY into an XML file? e.g. something like <element value="${StringKeys.SOME_KEY}"/> or similar - the main idea is to enforce commonality and prevent key mis-alignment. Or an alternative solution to accomplish the same - with some semantic that if a non-existant String is referenced, that it fails during build? Bonus points if it works in C# as well.

  • isReachable in Java doesn't appear to be working quite the way it's supposed to

    - by Rayne
    I'm using Clojure, but I can read Java, so this isn't a Clojure specific question. This doesn't even seem to be working from Java. I'm trying to implement a bit of a 'ping' function using isReachable. The code I'm using is this: (.isReachable (java.net.InetAddress/getByName "www.microsoft.com") 5000) Translated to Java by a good friend of mine: public class NetTest { public static void main (String[] args) throws Exception{ String host = "acidrayne.net"; InetAddress a = InetAddress.getByName(host); System.out.println(a.isReachable(10000)); } } Both of these return false. I suppose I must be doin' it wrong, but Google research is telling me differently. I'm confuzzled!

  • Get address using Geocoder in android

    - by user264953
    Hi, I tried to get the address of a particular location by giving static geocordinates. I was not able to fetch the address. Can someone please help. I just need to check whether this function works for me. Here is my snippet. Geocoder geocoder = new Geocoder(AddressSimulator.this, Locale.getDefault()); List<Address> addresses = geocoder.getFromLocation(1.352566007, 103.78921587, 1); System.out.println("Addresses size"+addresses.size()); Address size is obtained as zero. I tried with few other geocordinates also, but address size is always returned as 0. Experts, kindly help me resolve this. Looking forward for your valuable help/suggestions, Best Regards, Rony

  • How can I create or assign a method to temp (WindowAdapter)?

    - by Doug Hauf
    I want to create an instance of the WindowAdapter and put my method for windowClosing in it and then sent the temp into the f.addWindowListener(temp) can this be done. Java will not let me create an instance of WindowAdapter like below. WindowAdapter temp = new WindowAdapter(); <-- Does not compile How could this be done? Code: public static void main(String args[]) { setLookFeel(); JFrame f = new JFrame("Hello World Printer..."); WindowAdapter temp; f.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() { public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) { System.exit(0); } }); JButton printButton = new JButton("Print Hello World"); printButton.addActionListener(new HelloWorldPrinter()); f.add("Center", printButton); f.pack(); f.setVisible(true); }

  • What's the preferred way to use helper methods in Ruby?

    - by DR
    Disclaimer: Although I'm asking in context of a Rails application, I'm not talking about Rails helpers (i.e. view helpers) Let's say I have a helper method/function: def dispatch_job(job = {}) #Do something end Now I want to use this from several places (mostly controllers, but also a few BackgrounDRb workers) What's the preferred way to do this? I can think of two possibilities: 1. Use a class and make the helper a static method: class MyHelper def self.dispatch_job(job = {}) end end class MyWorker def run MyHelper.dispatch_job(...) end end 2. Use a module and include the method into whatever class I need this functionality module MyHelper def self.dispatch_job(job = {}) end end class MyWorker include MyHelper def run dispatch_job(...) end end 3. Other possibilities I don't know yet ... The first one is more Java-like, but I'm not sure if the second one is really an appropriate use of Ruby's modules.

  • Output of System.out.println(object)

    - by Shaarad Dalvi
    I want to know what exactly the output tells when I do the following : class data { int a=5; } class main { public static void main(String[] args) { data dObj=new data(); System.out.println(dObj); } } I know it gives something related to object as the output in my case is data@1ae73783. I guess the '1ae73783' is a hex number. I also did some work around and printed System.out.println(dObj.hashCode()); I got number 415360643. I got an integer value. I don't know what hashCode() returns, still out of curiosity, when I converted 1ae73783 to decimal, I got 415360643! That's why I am curious that what exactly is this number?? Is this some memory location of Java's sandbox or some other thing? Any light on this matter will be helpful..thanks! :)

  • Using *.html extension in dynamic URL's for SEO

    - by lostaman
    Hi all My situation is. I have a project planned to be built on ASP.NET MVC 2. And one of the major requirements is SEO optimization. A customer wants to use static-like URLs that end up with .html extension for this project that make URLs more SEO friendly. E.g. "mysite.com/about.html " or "mysite.com/items/getitem/5.html" etc. I wonder is there any benefit from SEO perspective to use .html extension in dynamic URLs? Are Google and other search engines rank work better with such URLs?

  • wrong font in a RichTextBox importing from .rtf

    - by giacomellow
    Hi all, I'm developing a microsoft surface application using expression blend+vs 2008. I have a RichTextBox that loads formatted text from an .rtf file. The text is formatted with uppecases, color, and specific font (helvetica-neue). When i load the text, it is displayed in the control with matching format (color and uppecase) but NOT matching font. it seems to use the standard Blend font (Thaoma). the text is loaded with this function: public static RichTextBox SetRTFText(string text, RichTextBox richTextBox) { MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(ASCIIEncoding.Default.GetBytes(text)); TextRange documentTextRange = new TextRange(richTextBox.Document.ContentStart, richTextBox.Document.ContentEnd); documentTextRange.Load(stream, DataFormats.Rtf ); return richTextBox; } thank you all!

  • how to keep the value of a variable in a closure

    - by Florian Fida
    i need to create multiple javascript functions which have a static id inside, so the function itself knows what data to process. Here is some code: (function(){ function log(s){ if(console && console.log) console.log(s); else alert(s); } var i = 10; while (i--){ window.setTimeout(function(){ // i need i to be 10, 9, 8... here not -1 log(i); },500); } })(); The problem ist that i allways gets updated by the loop, and i need to prevent this. Thanks in advance for any help, comments or tips!

  • .NET: efficient way to produce a string from a Dictionary<K,V> ?

    - by Cheeso
    Suppose I have a Dictionary<String,String>, and I want to produce a string representation of it. The "stone tools" way of doing it would be: private static string DictionaryToString(Dictionary<String,String> hash) { var list = new List<String> (); foreach (var kvp in hash) { list.Add(kvp.Key + ":" + kvp.Value); } var result = String.Join(", ", list.ToArray()); return result; } Is there an efficient way to do this in C# using existing extension methods? I know about the ConvertAll() and ForEach() methods on List, that can be used to eliminate foreach loops. Is there a similar method I can use on Dictionary to iterate through the items and accomplish what I want?

  • Is my program taking too much time to execute?

    - by Conrad C
    I wanted to solve a question from project euleur about finding the largest prime number of a big number. I run my code on a virtual machine on Visual studio 2012, and the code seems froze. When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute? My Code static void Main(string[] args) { long number = 5; for (long i = 1; i < 600851475143; i++) { if (i % 2 != 0 && i % 1 == 0 && i % i == 0) number = i; } }

  • Java multidimensional array and scanner novice Q

    - by Max
    I'm new to Java and trying to in essence implement a grid with a character, and if the user inputs 'w' 'a' 's' or 'd' the character moves up/down/left/right within the plane. I created a multidimensional array sized 10x10 public static String[][] grid = new String[10][10]; And then just used a for loop to print "*"s in a 10x10 grid, except for grid[a][b] which is equal to character "A" i.e. my thing to be moved around. That seemed to work alright, then I needed to detect the 'wasd' input from the user so I set up a: Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in); while (in.hasNext()) And I had then: String s = in.next(); char ch = s.charAt(0); switch (ch) but I couldn't make this work, and it wasn't because I didn't complete the "switch" statement, I did, I just see it void copying and pasting the entire thing. I'm sure its incredibly easy slight thing I am missing, can you please point it out for me?

  • Calling assembly in GCC????

    - by rbr200
    include static inline uint xchg(volatile unsigned int *addr, unsigned int newval) { uint result; asm volatile("lock; xchgl %0, %1" : "+m" (*addr), "=a" (result) : "1" (newval) : "cc"); return result; } Can some one tell me what this code does exactly. I mean I have an idea or the parts of this command. "1" newval is the input, "=a" is to flush out its previous value and update it. "m" is for the memory operation but I am confused about the functionality of this function. What does the "+m" sign do? Does this function do sumthing like m=a; m = newval; return a

  • Web Forms Routing not having correct path to images, css, scripts ...

    - by feronovak
    Hello, I am trying to use new .net 4.0 Routing for Web Forms with mixed success. protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.MapPageRoute( "", "article/{id}/{title}", "~/ar.aspx", true, new RouteValueDictionary{{"id", "[0-9]*"}, {"title", ""}} ); } Routing as such works well on a local machine as well as a remote server. However, I am unable to find out how to set up routing in such a way that server ignores routing for images, css and scripts so it will be read as http://address/css/text.css instead of http://address/article/1212/some-text/css/text.css The only way I can make this work if I put tag into but I am sure it can be done other way. I would appreciate any help on this topic. Fero

  • library interposition with dlsym

    - by ZeeGeek
    I'm writing an interposition library to track the usage of some library functions in libc, such as open(), close(), connect(), etc. It works generally well on most of the applications. However, when I try it with PHP, using PHP's MySQL module in particular, none of the function calls to libc inside this module is been tracked (so no connect(), no socket(), etc.). 'strace' told me that the system calls socket(), connect(), etc., took place. Running 'file' on the module and libmysqlclient.so.16.0.0 said that they are all dynamically linked. So it shouldn't be a problem caused by static linkage. What might be the problem? I'm using Fedora 11 64-bit version. Thank you.

  • .NET BinarySearch() on ArrayList of custom objects

    - by Alex
    Hi. I have an ArrayList of custom objects that have the following properties: FileName FilePath CurrentFolder TopLevelFolder I then need to do a BinarySearch (or some other quick search) on the FileName property on all the objects in the ArrayList in .NET. In other words, I need to find the object in the ArrayList with the same FileName as the one I'm searching on. Syntax for the ArrayList's BinarySearch is this; but how do you do this for an object's property in the arraylist? public static void FindMyObject( ArrayList myList, Object myObject ) { int myIndex=myList.BinarySearch( myObject ); if ( myIndex < 0 ) Console.WriteLine( "The object to search for ({0}) is not found. The next larger object is at index {1}.", myObject, ~myIndex ); else Console.WriteLine( "The object to search for ({0}) is at index {1}.", myObject, myIndex ); }

  • C# & C++, runtime error when call C++ dll from C#

    - by 5YrsLaterDBA
    I have written a C++ wrapper DLL for C# to call. The DLL was tested and worked fine with my C++ test program. now integrated with C#, I got runtime error and crashed. Cannot use debugger to see more details. The C++ side has only one method: #ifdef DLLWRAPPERWIN32_EXPORTS #define DLLWRAPPERWIN32_API __declspec(dllexport) #else #define DLLWRAPPERWIN32_API __declspec(dllimport) #endif #include "NB_DPSM.h" extern "C" { DLLWRAPPERWIN32_API int WriteGenbenchDataWrapper(string fileNameToAnalyze, string parameterFileName, string baseNameToSaveData, string logFileName, string& message) ; } in the C# side, there is a definition, [DllImport("..\\..\\thirdParty\\cogs\\DLLWrapperWin32.dll")] public static extern int WriteGenbenchDataWrapper(string fileNameToAnalyze, string parameterFileName, string baseNameToSaveData, string logFileName, ref string message); and a call: string msg = ""; int returnVal = WriteGenbenchDataWrapper(rawDataFileName, parameterFileName, outputBaseName, logFileName, ref msg); I guess there must be something wrong with the last parameter of the function. string& in C++ should be ref string in C#?

  • Why must use "out" instead of ref ?

    - by Phsika
    i wrote some code blocks about ref -out declaration. i think that ref is most useful out. Ok. why i need to use out. i can use always ref everytime: namespace out_ref { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { sinifA sinif = new sinifA(); int test = 100; sinif.MethodA(out test); Console.WriteLine(test.ToString()); sinif.MethodB(ref test); Console.WriteLine(test.ToString()); Console.ReadKey(); } } class sinifA { public void MethodA(out int a) { a = 200; } int _b; public void MethodB(ref int b) { _b = b; b = 2*b; } } }

  • Generate a commutative hash based on three sets of numbers?

    - by DarkAmgine
    I need to generate a commutative hash based on three sets of "score" structs. Each score has a "start", an "end" and a "number". Both start and end are usually huge numbers (8-9 digits) but number is just from 1 to 4. I need them to be commutative so the order does not matter. I'm using XOR at the moment but it seems to be giving bad results. Since I'm working with large large datasets, I'd prefer a performance-friendly solution. Any suggestions? Thanks =] public static int getCustomHash(cnvRegion c1, cnvRegion c2, cnvRegion c3) { int part1 = (c1.startLocation * c2.startLocation * c3.startLocation); int part2 = (c1.endLocation * c2.endLocation * c3.endLocation); int part3 = (c1.copyNumber + c2.copyNumber + c3.copyNumber)*23735160; return part1 ^ part2 ^ part3; }

  • C# Inherited member variables behaving undexpectedly

    - by Nilbert
    If I have a class like this: class A { public string fe = "A"; } And a class that inherits from it like so: class B : A { public string fe = "B"; } Visual C++ will tell me that B.fe hides A.fe so I should use the new keyword. So I change class B to look like: class B : A { public new string fe = "B"; } And then I have a function that takes an A (but, by virtue of inheritance, will also take a B) like this: class D { public static void blah(A anAObject) { Console.Writeline(A.fe); } } Even when I pass it an instance of a B object, which it will take without question, it will print "A"! Why is this, and how can I make it work how I want without setting the variable in the constructor?
