    My application layout contains a navigation div, and a content div constructed as a partial. I want to use ajax so that whenever a person clicks on a link in the navigation div, the contents of that page renders in the content div without a refresh.     What is the best practice to specify the positions of elements in GWT widget? Imagine you have a task: place a set of widgets in page layout. What would you use to position all your buttons and inputs in some order? standart HTML markup with tables/divs + CSS styles for positioning GWT widgets: panels, grids, tables + CSS styles for positioning GWT widgets: panels, grids, tables + their native properties for positioning If 2 or 3 - what would you use to reproduce a standart HTML table with colspans, fixed width columns and paddings? ps UIBinder and XML markup. GWT 2.4 My opinion: one of the biggest advantages of GWT is the ability to prevent programmer from writing HTML markup and add cross-browser support for interfaces. We shouldn't drop these points so its better to choose p.3 and try to use CSS ONLY for decoration - i.e. colors, fonts etc. Another point of view: its a bad idea to place any styles inline. By specifying properties of the widgets in XML markup we are literally doing exactly this. Also, GWT doesn't have enough widgets to produce a normal layout. For example you need to create a simple table with collspans and fixed column width. How would you go about this? Looks like you have to embed several HorizontalPanels into VerticalPanels, specify width/height in everyone of them and produce a great paper of XML by this. So whats your opinion?

    in this example you can see a generated HTML-list. On every refresh the script requests the data-file (ajax/test.json) and builds the list again. The generated file "ajax/test.json" is cached statically. But this doesn't work in IE7/8! (I'm aware of descendent selectors - for some reason I can't use that here)

  • Div's are not filtered as :hidden when display:none; is appended as style

    Hey folks I have some simple HTML: <div id="selectorContainer"> <div id="chainedSelector" style="display: none;"><% Html.RenderPartial("ProjectSuggest/ChainedProjectSelector"); %></div> <div id="suggestSelector"><% Html.RenderPartial("ProjectSuggest/SuggestControl", new SuggestModeDTO{RegistrationMode = Model.RegistrationMode}); %></div> </div> which is two containers for controls. I have jQuery code to toggle between displaying these, but I need to store as a cookie which one was used last time the user was logged in (i.e. which one was visible). The storing of the cookie is not the problem. The problem is that I for some reason am not able to detect which one is the hidden one, using .is(":hidden"), and not able to detect which one is visible using .is(":visible") When I use those two selectors, I always get both. "true" and "true" for both, eventhough one has display: none; and the other doesn't. Please note that they are NOT placed inside a hidden container which otherwise would hide both, so there are not any hidden ancestor containers.   • choose javascript variable based on element id from jquery

    I feel like this is a simple question, but I am still relatively new to javascript and jquery. I am developing a site for a touch interface that uses unordered lists and jquery .click functions to take input data. I have a section to input a m:ss time, with 3 divs, each containing a list of digits for time. I need to get the input for each column and set it as a variable. I originally designed the inputs to change form inputs, because I didn't understand javascript very much. It was easy to change the 3 hidden inputs by using div id's, but I can't figure out how to do it now with javascript variables. Here is my original jquery code... $("div#time>div>ul>li").click(function() { var id = $(this).parents(".time").attr("name"); var number = $(this).html(); $("input#"+id).val(number); }); The last line sets one of 3 hidden inputs equal to whatever was clicked. I need to make it so separate variables take the inputs, then I can manipulate those variables however I want. I want to return an array with all the online users which is retrieved from a mysql statement, and I want to send other separate variables I need for other purposes along with it. If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. NOTE: the example below is to illustrate what I want to do, I understand that json-encoding the array with other variables is dysfunctional.   • How can we protect ourselves from other third parties installing DLLs with the same names as some of

    Our product includes several DLLs built from open source into files with default names as delivered by the open source developers. We're careful to install the files in our own directories and we carefully manage the search path (only for our processes) to keep the loader happy. Another developer -- a towering intellect -- decided it would be easier to install their own build of some of the same open source into C:\WINDOWS under the same default DLL filenames. Consequently, when we launch a process which depends on these open source DLLs, the system searches C:\WINDOWS before our directories and finds the DLLs installed by the other developer. And they are, of course, incompatible. Ideas which have occurred to me so far: rename all our DLLs to avoid the default names, which would only make it less likely we would encounter collisions load all our DLLs by full path so the loader captures their names into RAM and doesn't search anywhere else the next time they are requested For various reasons, neither of these options is palatable at the moment. What else can we do to defend ourselves against the towering intellects of the world?

    Hi, I'm trying to use the DOM to locate a form element in Selenium but I can't get it to work. Even if I use the example in the Selenium documentation it still fails, for example with this html... <html> <body> <form id="loginForm"> <input name="username" type="text" /> <input name="password" type="password" /> <input name="continue" type="submit" value="Login" /> <input name="continue" type="button" value="Clear" /> </form> </body> <html> and this command in the Selenium IDE... verifyElementPresent with target... dom=document.forms['loginForm'] I get [error] false in the log. However, I want it to disconnect the client when an unrecognised packet is received.     I'm having trouble with UTF-8. common.jsp <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> typical.jsp <%@ include file="common.jsp" %> Page Head <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> Form <form id="screenObject" accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/SiteAdmin/articleHeaderEdit?articleId=15" method="post"> I enter non latin1 characters into a text field and click Save. Validator complains about another field and stops the submission. This never gets to the database, so database ability to handle UTF-8 is not in this picture. The page redisplays with appropriate error but the text that had been entered is all messed up. All non latin1 characters are converted to some gibberish. I'm using Spring 3 MVC, in case that matters... Attempts Adding this to my view resolver didn't help: <property name="contentType" value="text/html;charset=UTF-8" />
