• Google Analytics - how to track clicks on a screen?

  Can I track the click of every link, button, dropdown select, etc. on a screen and have it be tracked in Google Analytics? I want to create a page and collect data on which widget the users use most. What about AJAX stuff? What if you're using jQuery or Mootools...can you get the functions to register a fake URL with GA based on user interaction? I use to do this with Flash. Everytime you click a button, it can initiate a fake URL request. I would make urls such as ".../customize/eyes/" or ".../customize/nose", etc. Just wondering if I can do that with Javascript on the page. I've also posted at StackOverflow.

• Z-index preventing on hover attribute on another element [migrated]

  I have two different elements (div class="") within a larger container. Let's call them div class="overlay_container" and div class="title." The div class="overlay_container" has a subclass, .image, which creates an overlay over the entire larger container on hover. The div class="title" has a z-index of 10,000 and lies over .image and therefore over the overlay. Unfortunately, when you hover over "title," the subclass overlay image underneath disappears. I know the problem is obviously that the "title" div is right over the other divs and therefore the on hover will disappear due to the z-index. But how do I fix this? How do I make it so that when you hover over the "title," the .image overlay still appears? If your answer involves jQuery, could you please tell me where to put the script (before the /head tag)? I know how to add the API calls and services to initiate these reminders. I am asking for advise about how to approach a reliable timely listener service that knows to call the service or API for the reminder before an appointment. EG.   Hello I'm trying to make some kind of tool for an school website, what I need to do is to make students take a test and according to what are the results (27 posibilities) they get a set of activities (questions) according to their level which they can solve in around 3 months logging periodically to the website, plus I need teachers to log and look at the reports. Now, I'm a graphic designer myself so my skills are mostly html5 and css3 and I know some php (edit existing ones only) and javascript (jquery) as well, most people tell me that I need a CMS to do the tool but all I find is CMS for display like blogs or news websites which I think aren't useful for me because the website is already made in html and css3 only (I need to add an extra page for the tool) I understand I need to create users and give them special rights according to what type of user they are and I also understand that I need a database where I can store all my questions. What is the best way to do this? what do you suggest me? Thanks

  I'm trying to add a news carousel on my OneHub site. I know there are quite a few plugins that I can use, but I'm looking for a ready-to-use hosted solution where people can log-on and manage the content, and I can simply include as an iFrame widget on our OneHub site. We would prefer to use Expression Engine, since we're using this on some of our other websites. It looks like Expression Engine + JQuery Cycle Rotator might be an option, not sure how easily I can get this onto OneHub though... WordPress has a carousel plugin as well that I'll explore. Anyhow, while I'm trying out these options, I figured I would put a question out there for any thoughts or advice, other solutions, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alan

  While bouncing around StackOverflow, I've noticed a number of people attaching events (notably click events) to the document as opposed to the elements themselves. Example: Given this: <button id="myButton">CLICK ME</button> Instead of writing this (using jQuery just for brevity): $('#myButton').on('click', function() { ... }); They do this: $(document).on('click', function() { ... }); And then presumably use event.target to drill down to the element that was actually clicked. Are there any gains/advantages in capturing events at the document level instead of at the element level?

  I've found plenty of questions between here and StackExchange of people asking for the 'best' data grid / data table, or one that has a particular feature, and plenty of lists out there (of various ages) listing the various data grid implementations ... but is anyone aware of any matrix of what features the various solutions implement? (eg, allow shift-click to select multiple; support checkboxes for selection; can update a regular table in-place; allow editing of cells; support websql or indexeddb for local caching; which browsers they support; infinite scroll; etc.) There's a generic 'javascript framework' comparison on wikipedia, which would be the sort of thing I'm looking for, but it doesn't go into detail on data grids. (which makes sense, as so many are extensions, not core features of those frameworks, and in the case of jQuery, there's lots of 'em.)

• Protecting the integrity of a game state while minimizing amount of data sent

  I'm developing a game in PHP/jQuery, and naturally have to be wary of any sort of data coming from the client. At present, I have tables of data representing the map (2D roguelike), monsters, items, and player(s). Initially, my thought was to simply package it all in a JSON object and send it every game tick, however when actually looking at the data I realized that's quite a large packet to be sending. So, my question is what is a good approach for minimizing data sent to the client? Obviously I would need to figure out some way of validating whatever it sends back. Initially we'd hoped to do some minimal verification on the client-side, but each time we thought of one thing we could do it is immediately invalidated with tools like Firebug. Kind of an open question I realize, but we want to get this right before we move on with our implementation so we don't have to shoehorn in bugfixes later on.

  Of course one big pro is the amount of syntactic sugar leading to shorter code in a lot of cases. On http://jashkenas.github.com/coffee-script/ there are impressive examples. On the other hand I have doubts that these examples represent code of complex real world applications. In my code for instance I never add functions to bare objects but rather to their prototypes. Moreover the prototype feature is hidden from the user, suggesting classical OOP rather than idiomatic Javascript.   I am looking to a book covering adavnced programming techniques, covering different practical scenarios and describing the different challanges with the relative solutions. As example, which are the best ways to implement a module for buying on a web application with credit card or how to manage responsivenes for the frontend of the web application itself (dealing with cache, optimeze plugins, etc). On the web there are tons of tutorials about these topics, but I am looking for a book where such cases are collected all together and treated by real professionists. If the book would provide some code samples, that would be a plus (especially if C# .NET), but I am more interested in the approach/solution rather than the code details. I could not find any of these cases in the general book about programming, therefore I hope someone might point me in the right direction. EDIT: I have 4 years experience as web developer, mainly with Microsoft (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server) and client side technologies (jQuery, HTML/CSS).

• MSDTC attempts to enlist client machine in a distributed transaction

  Hi there We're seeing the following intermittent warning logged by MSDTC: A caller has attempted to propagate a transaction to a remote system, but MSDTC network DTC access is currently disabled on machine 'X'. Please review the MS DTC configuration settings. However, MSDTC is disabled on machine X by design - it's a client machine, and has no business being enlisted in the transaction! Several windows service endpoints hosting WCF services over TCP Single SQL Server 2005 instance beneath Linq to Sql Remote client receives event callbacks over WCF/TCP The issue is tricky to reproduce - usually following restart of services. We suspect a callback to the client machine is occurring within the context of a transaction. Just wondering if anyone has seen similar issues?? Ken

The promise returned from using ptor.executeScript("window.getComputedStyle(jQuery('.my-class')[0], ':after').content").then(function(data){ console.log(arguments) // {'0':null} }); I've also tried dropping that in the expectation, but I'd guess that fails for the same reason. Since the CSS Declaration for this is pointing at one of the element's attributes anyway, should I just try to read that attribute?
