Looking for a 'pick a-or-b' voting system script

Apologies: this is my first time on stackoverflow and I'm starting with a question and seeking advice. Sorry. Caveats: I know HTML and CSS pretty well. Javascript and PHP are not completely alien, but I'm really pretty basic on those. That said, I'm pretty sharp and willing to search for explanations independently. Ok, so my question is this: I want to create a site with a voting system very much like the one on kittenwar.com - the page loads 2 random images from a db of some sort and you click on the one you want to 'win'. Ranked pairs kind of deal. Then there is a leaderboard of those images which have the highest win-loss ratio. There also needs to be an uploader for peeps to upload their own images and have them go into an approval workflow, and from there into the db that feeds the voting thing. I tried a pre-made solution ('photo battle') but found it was completely standalone, so trying to integrate it or change any of the options was a nightmare, plus it was buggy. i'm sure there has to be a relatively easy way to do this, right? Ideally I'd like to build my site in Joomla and integrate this functionality somehow. I'd be very grateful for any advice on this. Thanks Tom

Hello everybody. I have quick question, and I'm sure some of you guys will be able to point out what I'm doing wrong. Basically, I want to create a table with (calendar), with the months and days of an entire year, and Im using php to do it, my code is doing something weird. What happens is that January is empty and the days for January are being put in february. Load random swf object with jquery

I'm working on a site that utilizes full screen background video. I have three flash videos I'd like to load into the page which would be displayed randomly on page refresh. I know you can achieve this through action script loading the movies into one main .swf, but I'm rubbish with Flash and am looking for an alternative solution. My search so far has uncovered a method using jquery. Unfortunately my attempts to implement it have failed. I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than myself can tell me if this technique is valid or what I'm doing wrong. DOMNode reference doesn't work anymore after appending it to another element twice

Hi, I'm using the a wrapper around the PHP5-class DOMDocument to generate my HTML. This makes it easy to modify the HTML by using the DOM. An example is creating element #1 and adding it to the element #2 and still be able to modify element #1 directly. Connect Rails model to non-rails database

I'm creating a new web application (Rails 3 beta), of which pieces of it will access data from a legacy mysql database that a current php application is using. I do not wish to modify the legacy db schema, I just want to be able to read/write to it, as well as the rails application having it's own database using activerecord for the newer stuff. I'm using mysql for the rails app, so I have the adapter installed. How is the best way to do this? For example, I want contacts to come from the old database. Should I create a contacts controller, and manually call sql to get the variables for the views? Or should I create a Contact model, and define attributes that match the fields in the database, and am I able to use it like Contact.mail_address to have it call "SELECT mailaddr FROM contacts WHERE id=Contact.id". Sorry, I've never done much in Rails outside of the standard stuff that is documented well. I'm not sure of what the best approach would be. Ideally, I want the contacts to be presented to my rails application as native as possible, so that I can expose them RESTfully for API access. Any suggestions and code examples would be much appreciated

Product Name Print Several times, How to fix.?

If there are more than one option the products name prints several times. So if I got a product with three options the product name prints three times. Real time location tracking - windows program or browser based?

I want to track a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people in real time. Let's say that the hardware aspects are sorted out and I can get the data into a database. Now, I want to get it out and show it, in real-time. Weeeell ... "real-enough" time. Let's say that I want to draw a floorplan of a building and plot everyone every 1 to 5 seconds. (I might want to show only certain "kinds" of people at the click of a button; I will need datamining, etc, but let's stick with the worse case scenario). I am comfortable enough with PHP, though not this sort of thing. I personally would be happier with a windows app coded in Delphi, but the trend seems to be to make everything browser based. So, the question, I guess is whether a browser can handle this and whether there are compelling arguments for a windows-based or browser-based solution. If browser-based can handle this (displaying a few thousand data-points a second), and there are no overwhelming arguments for windows then I guess I will go for browser-based and learn a few new tricks. The obvious advantage being that I could also re-use a large part of my code for (vehicle) tracking on Google maps.

How can I send GET data to multiple URLs at the same time using cURL?

My apologies, I've actually asked this question multiple times, but never quite understood the answers. Here is my current code: while($resultSet = mysql_fetch_array($SQL)){ $ch = curl_init($resultSet['url'] . $fullcurl); //load the urls and send GET data curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, 2); //Only load it for two seconds (Long enough to send the data) curl_exec($ch); //Execute the cURL curl_close($ch); //Close it off } //end while loop What I'm doing here, is taking URLs from a MySQL Database ($resultSet['url']), appending some extra variables to it, just some GET data ($fullcurl), and simply requesting the pages. This starts the script running on those pages, and that's all that this script needs to do, is start those scripts. It doesn't need to return any output. Just the load the page long enough for the script to start. However, currently it's loading each URL (currently 11) one at a time. I need to load all of them simultaneously. I understand I need to use curl_multi_*, but I haven't the slightest idea on how cURL functions work, so I don't know how to change my code to use curl_multi_* in a while loop. So my questions are: How can I change this code to load all of the URLs simultaneously? Please explain it and not just give me code. I want to know what each individual function does exactly. Will curl_multi_exec even work in a while loop, since the while loop is just sending each row one at a time? And of course, any references, guides, tutorials about cURL functions would be nice, as well. Preferably not so much from php.net, as while it does a good job of giving me the syntax, its just a little dry and not so good with the explanations.

SugarmCRM REST API always returns "null"

I'm trying to test out the SugarCRM REST API, running latest version of CE (6.0.1). It seems that whenever I do a query, the API returns "null", nothing else. If I omit the parameters, then the API returns the API description (which the documentation says it should). I'm trying to perform a login, passing as parameter the method (login), input_type and response_type (json) and rest_data (JSON encoded parameters). How To Call Javascript In Ajax Response? IE: Close a form div upon success...

I have a form that when you submit it, it sends the data for validation to another php script via ajax. Validation errors are echo'd back in a div in my form. A success message also is returned if validation passes. The problem is that the form is still displayed after submit and successful validation. I want to hid the div after success. So, I wrote this simple CSS method which works fine when called from the page the form is displayed on. The problem is that I cannot seem to call the hide script via returned code. I can return html like echo "<p>Thanks, your form passed validation and is being sent</p>"; So I assumed I could simply echo another line after that echo "window.onload=displayDiv()"; inside script tags (which I cannot get to display here)... and that it would hide the form div. It does not work. I am assuming that the problem is that the javascript is being returned incorrectly and not being interpreted by the browser... How can I invoke my 'hide' script on the page via returned data from my validation script? I can echo back text but the script call is ineffective. Thanks! This is the script on the page with the form... The hyperlink above is php generated, meant to trigger the above JavaScript function, and swap the url from attributes contained in ids "movie_url" and "embed_url". Works just like it should in FF, but IE will only perform the .css commands. My guess? IE doesn't like me assigning IDs to PARAM and EMBED, perhaps? What do you think?

Mounted NFS directory not writable by Apache / PHP

Need some help here with NFS. Here's what I have (all servers running CentOS 5.6 with SELinux): 172.17.20.1 - Primary server with static IP. Varnish redirects requests to the web servers. 172.17.20.2 - Web server 1 172.17.20.3 - Web server 2 The application residing on the web servers is running Drupal and I need both of them to share the same files directory. I have created a folder in 172.17.20.1 called /var/nfs with root user. Here is my /etc/exports content: /var/nfs 172.17.20.2(rw,sync,no_root_squash) 172.17.20.3(rw,sync,no_root_squash) On both the web servers (172.17.20.2/3), I have it mounted like below: [root@web2 ~]# mount ... 172.17.20.1:/var/nfs on /mnt/nfs/var/nfs type nfs (rw,sync,hard,intr,addr=172.17.20.1) On all the servers, I've added the user apache to the root group to get the desired write access: [root@main ~]# cat /etc/group root:x:0:root,apache .... .... apache:x:48: [root@web1 ~]# cat /etc/group root:x:0:root,apache .... .... apache:x:48: Despite all this, when I try to write files into the /mnt/nfs/var/nfs folder from Drupal/PHP, it cannot write to it. I even tried with a simple PHP upload script but it doesn't work, so the problem is not with Drupal. Any help you guys can do is much appreciated. Combining XmlWriter objects?

The way my application is structured, each component generates output as XML and returns an XmlWriter object. Before rendering the final output to the page, I combine all XML and perform an XSL transformation on that object. Below, is a simplified code sample of the application structure. Does it make sense to combine XmlWriter objects like this? Is there a better way to structure my application? How to direct link to an attribute set?

I have created attributes; “Shop by Type” and “Shop by Color”. They work great within the layered navigation and extended search. I’ve designed graphics and placed them in the home page and would like to link to the respective attribute’s assigned products. Been searching the webs, but so far have been unsuccessful. If there’s no direct possible way, the next method would be creating cms pages and linking to it directly. How can I display products that are assigned to a specific attribute? Specifically “Multiple Select” types. I know you guys prefer at least some attempts, but as mentioned, been playing with it with no luck. I would appreciate some kind of starting point. Happy Holidays! Edit: I was able to put together this code that lists all the products assigned to said category id. Tried to filter it down where it only displays products that have an assigned same attribute with no luck yet.
