  • my dialog box did not show up whene i compile it using sdk 7.1,

    - by zirek
    hello and welcom everyone .. i'd like to build a win32 application using sdk 7.1, i create the dialog box using visual c++ 2012 resource editor, i copy resource.rc and resource.h to my folder and i write this simple main.cpp file: #include <windowsx.h> #include <Windows.h> #include <tchar.h> #include "resource.h" #define my_PROCESS_MESSAGE(hWnd, message, fn) \ case(message): \ return( \ SetDlgMsgResult(hWnd, uMsg, \ HANDLE_##message((hWnd), (wParam), (lParam), (fn)) )) \ LRESULT CALLBACK DlgProc(HWND, UINT, WPARAM, LPARAM); BOOL Cls_OnInitDialog(HWND hwnd, HWND hwndFocus, LPARAM lParam); void Cls_OnCommand(HWND hwnd, int id, HWND hwndCtl, UINT codeNotify); int WINAPI _tWinMain( HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE, LPTSTR, int iCmdLine ) { DialogBoxParam( hInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDD_INJECTOR), NULL, (DLGPROC) DlgProc, NULL ); return FALSE; } LRESULT CALLBACK DlgProc( HWND hwnd, UINT uMsg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam ) { switch (uMsg) { my_PROCESS_MESSAGE(hwnd, WM_INITDIALOG, Cls_OnInitDialog); my_PROCESS_MESSAGE(hwnd, WM_COMMAND, Cls_OnCommand); default: break; } return DefWindowProc(hwnd, uMsg, wParam, lParam); } BOOL Cls_OnInitDialog(HWND hwnd, HWND hwndFocus, LPARAM lParam) { return TRUE; } void Cls_OnCommand(HWND hwnd, int id, HWND hwndCtl, UINT codeNotify) { switch(id) { case IDCANCEL: EndDialog(hwnd, id); break; default: break; } } then i use the following command line to compile my code, wich i found on this forum cl main.cpp /link /SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS user32.lib my problem is that my dialog box did not show up, and when i use procexp, to see what happen, i found that that my application is created then closed in the same time, and what make me wondering is that its working fine on visual c++ 2012. my sdk 7.1, installed correctly, i testing it against a basic window without any resource file any ideas, ill be really thankful Best, Zirek

  • How to avoid resetting the java Scanner position

    - by Derek
    I have some code that looks more or less like this: while(scanner.hasNext()) { if(scanner.findInLine("Test") !=null) { //do some things }else{ scanner.nextLine(); } } I am using this to parse an ~10MB text file. The problem is, if I put a breakpoint on the while() and the scanner.nextLine(), I can see that sometimes the scanners position (in the debug window) goes back to zero. I think this is causing me some kind of loop blow up, because the regext in findInLine() starts at zero, looks through some amount of text, advancing the position, and then it randomly gets set back to zero, so it has to re-parse all that text again. Any ideas what can be causing that? Am I even doing this the right way? Thanks Some additional info: The Scanner is instantiated from an InputStream. After diubg sine debugging, it appears that there is a HearCharBuffer that Scanner uses and it only allows 1024 characters at a time, and then resets. Is there a way to avoid this, or do things differently? That seems like a small amount of characters to be able to scan. Derek

  • AddEvenLister fires off immediately after being attached

    - by Diego
    I want to know how to correctly add an Event Listener like onClick to a dynamic div. Here’s my snippet: var $menu = new Array(2); createDiv('yes'); function createDiv(title) { var $class = 'menuLink'; var $title = 'title'; for(var i=0; i<$menu.length;i++) { $title = 'title'; var newdiv = document.createElement('div'); newdiv.setAttribute('class', $class); newdiv.setAttribute('id', 'item'+i); newdiv.addEventListener('onclick', clickHandle(newdiv.id),false); if (title) { newdiv.innerHTML = $title; } else { newdiv.innerHTML = "No Title"; } document.getElementById('menu').appendChild(newdiv); showMenu(); } } function clickHandle(e) { if(e == 'item0') { alert('Link is' + ' ' + e); }else{ alert('Another Link'); } } Here's my problem, the snippet works fine, It creates my divs, adds id's values and all, but the event fires off as soon as the event is attached, so while the for loop is creating the divs the alert window says: Link is item0, and immediately after this it says: Another Link. Am I misunderstanding this? (I used this method zillions of times in AS3 with the expected result, just attached a function waiting for a click). What I want is that my Divs wait for the user to click on them, not to fire off immediately after of being attached. Thanks for any hint on this one. Greetings. Ps. IE doesn't support addEventListener, but I want to resolve this before cross to the IE sea of madness, but I will appreciate the IE approach as well. - I tried "onclick" and just 'click' into the addEventListener line, both with the same result described above.

  • force refresh of part of page in browser

    - by Jeremy
    I have the following html: <ul class="scr"> <li class="scr"> <input type="checkbox" class="chkscr"/> <h3>Item Name</h3> <div class="scr">Contents</div> </li> .... </ul> And the following jQuery: //Set initial state of each scr section $('.chkscr input, input.chkscr').each(function() { chkSCR_Click($(this)); }); //Setup click event $('.chkscr input, input.chkscr').click(function() { chkSCR_Click($(this)); }); //Toggle corresponding scr section for the checkbox function chkSCR_Click(ctl) { if (ctl.attr('checked')) { ctl.parents('li.scr').find('div.scr').stop().show(); } else { ctl.parents('li.scr').find('div.scr').stop().hide(); } } My issue is that when I toggle the last li element to display, the h3 element contents disapear, until I click somewhere else on the page, or scroll the page up and down to cause the browse to repaint that portion of the window. I don't get this behavior in Opera for example, and even in IE the behavior only happens on the last li element, so I'm pretty sure it's an IE quirk and not my code. Is there any workaround I can do through jquery/javascript to force it to repaint the h3 element?

  • How to speed-up python nested loop?

    - by erich
    I'm performing a nested loop in python that is included below. This serves as a basic way of searching through existing financial time series and looking for periods in the time series that match certain characteristics. In this case there are two separate, equally sized, arrays representing the 'close' (i.e. the price of an asset) and the 'volume' (i.e. the amount of the asset that was exchanged over the period). For each period in time I would like to look forward at all future intervals with lengths between 1 and INTERVAL_LENGTH and see if any of those intervals have characteristics that match my search (in this case the ratio of the close values is greater than 1.0001 and less than 1.5 and the summed volume is greater than 100). My understanding is that one of the major reasons for the speedup when using NumPy is that the interpreter doesn't need to type-check the operands each time it evaluates something so long as you're operating on the array as a whole (e.g. numpy_array * 2), but obviously the code below is not taking advantage of that. Is there a way to replace the internal loop with some kind of window function which could result in a speedup, or any other way using numpy/scipy to speed this up substantially in native python? Alternatively, is there a better way to do this in general (e.g. will it be much faster to write this loop in C++ and use weave)? ARRAY_LENGTH = 500000 INTERVAL_LENGTH = 15 close = np.array( xrange(ARRAY_LENGTH) ) volume = np.array( xrange(ARRAY_LENGTH) ) close, volume = close.astype('float64'), volume.astype('float64') results = [] for i in xrange(len(close) - INTERVAL_LENGTH): for j in xrange(i+1, i+INTERVAL_LENGTH): ret = close[j] / close[i] vol = sum( volume[i+1:j+1] ) if ret > 1.0001 and ret < 1.5 and vol > 100: results.append( [i, j, ret, vol] ) print results

  • Initializing Disqus comments in hidden element causes issue in FF 14.0.1

    - by Bazze
    This issue appears only in Firefox 14.0.1 (well I couldn't reproduce it in any other browser). If you put the code for Disqus comments inside an element that is hidden and wait until everything is fully loaded and then display the element using JavaScript, the comment box nor comments will show up. However if you resize the window, it'll show up immediately. It's working fine in latest version of Google Chrome and Safari though. What's causing this and how to fix it? Sample code to reproduce: <div id="test" style="display:none;"> <div id="disqus_thread"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> /* * * CONFIGURATION VARIABLES: EDIT BEFORE PASTING INTO YOUR WEBPAGE * * */ var disqus_shortname = 'onlinefunctions'; // required: replace example with your forum shortname /* * * DON'T EDIT BELOW THIS LINE * * */ (function() { var dsq = document.createElement('script'); dsq.type = 'text/javascript'; dsq.async = true; dsq.src = 'http://' + disqus_shortname + '.disqus.com/embed.js'; (document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0]).appendChild(dsq); })(); </script> <noscript>Please enable JavaScript to view the <a href="http://disqus.com/?ref_noscript">comments powered by Disqus.</a></noscript> <a href="http://disqus.com" class="dsq-brlink">comments powered by <span class="logo-disqus">Disqus</span></a> </div> <a href="#" onclick="document.getElementById('test').style.display = 'block'">show</a> I could post a link to a live example but I'm not sure about the policy of posting links here on Stack Overflow.

  • C++ Memory Leak, Can't find where

    - by Nicholas
    I'm using Visual Studio 2008, Developing an OpenGL window. I've created several classes for creating a skeleton, one for joints, one for skin, one for a Body(which is a holder for several joints and skin) and one for reading a skel/skin file. Within each of my classes, I'm using pointers for most of my data, most of which are declared using = new int[XX]. I have a destructor for each Class that deletes the pointers, using delete[XX]. Within my GLUT display function I have it declaring a body, opening the files and drawing them, then deleting the body at the end of the display. But there's still a memory leak somewhere in the program. As Time goes on, it's memory usage just keep increasing, at a consistent rate, which I'm interpreting as something that's not getting deleted. I'm not sure if it's something in the glut display function that's just not deleting the Body class, or something else. I've followed the steps for memory leak detection in Visual Studio 2008 and it doesn't report any leak, but I'm not 100% sure if it's working right for me. I'm not fluent in C++, so there maybe something I'm overlooking, can anyone see it?

  • Evaluating expressions using Visual Studio 2005 SDK rather than automation's Debugger::GetExpression

    - by brone
    I'm looking into writing an addin (or package, if necessary) for Visual Studio 2005 that needs watch window type functionality -- evaluation of expressions and examination of the types. The automation facilities provide Debugger::GetExpression, which is useful enough, but the information provided is a bit crude. From looking through the docs, it sounds like an IDebugExpressionContext2 would be more useful. With one of these it looks as if I can get more information from an expression -- detailed information about the type and any members and so on and so forth, without having everything come through as strings. I can't find any way of actually getting a IDebugExpressionContext2, though! IDebugProgramProvider2 sort of looks relevant, in that I could start with IDebugProgramProvider2::GetProviderProcessData and then slowly drill down until reaching something that can supply my expression context -- but I'll need to supply a port to this, and it's not clear how to retrieve the port corresponding to the current debug session. (Even if I tried every port, it's not obvious how to tell which port is the right one...) I'm becoming suspicious that this simply isn't a supported use case, but with any luck I've simply missed something crashingly obvious. Can anybody help?

  • What is the simplest way to implement multithreading in c# to existing code

    - by Kaeso
    I have already implemented a functionnal application that parses 26 pages of html all at once to produce an xml file with data contained on the web pages. I would need to implement a thread so that this method can work in the background without causing my app to seems unresponsive. Secondly, I have another function that is decoupled from the first one which compares two xml files to produce a third one and then transform this third xml file to produce an html page using XSLT. This would have to be on a thread, where I can click Cancel to stop the thread whithout crashing the app. What is the easiest best way to do this using WPF forms in VS 2010 ? I have chosen to use the BackgroundWorker. BackgroundWorker implementation: public partial class MainWindow : Window { private BackgroundWorker bw = new BackgroundWorker(); public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); bw.WorkerReportsProgress = true; bw.DoWork += new DoWorkEventHandler(bw_DoWork); bw.RunWorkerCompleted += new RunWorkerCompletedEventHandler(backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted); } private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.LoadFiles(); } private void btnCompare_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (bw.IsBusy != true) { progressBar2.IsIndeterminate = true; // Start the asynchronous operation. bw.RunWorkerAsync(); } } private void bw_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { StatsProcessor proc = new StatsProcessor(); if (lstStatsBox1.SelectedItem != null) if (lstStatsBox2.SelectedItem != null) proc.CompareStats(lstStatsBox1.SelectedItem.ToString(), lstStatsBox2.SelectedItem.ToString()); } private void backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted(object sender, RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e) { progressBar2.IsIndeterminate = false; progressBar2.Value = 100; } I have started with the bgworker solution, but it seems that the bw_DoWork method is never called when btnCompare is clicked, I must be doing something wrong... I am new to threads.

  • In M-V-VM where does my code go?

    - by Nate Bross
    So, this is a pretty basic question I hope. I have a web service that I've added through Add Service Reference. It has some methods to get list and get detail of a perticular table in my database. What I'm trying to do is setup a UI as follows: App Load Load service proxy Call the GetList(); method display the results in a ListBox control User Double Clicks item in ListBox, display a modal dialog with a "detail" view I'm extremely new to using MVVM, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Additional information: // Service Interface (simplification): interface IService { IEnumerable<MyObject> GetList(); MyObject GetDetail(int id); } // Data object (simplification) class MyObject { public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } I'm thinking I should have something like this: MainWindow MyObjectViewUserControl Displays list Opens modal window on double click Specific Questions: What would my ViewModel class look like? Where does the code to handle the double click go? Inside the UserControl? Sorry for the long details, but I'm very new to the whole thing and I'm not educated enough to ask the right questions. I checked out the MVVM Sample from wpf.codeplex.com and something isn't quite clicking for me yet, because it seems very confusing.

  • java.awt.Robot.keyPress for continuous keystrokes

    - by Deb
    So, here's my problem. I have a java program which will send keystroke messages to a game (built in Unity), based on how the user interacts with an android phone. (My java program is a listener for the android interaction over wi-fi) Now, in order to do this, I am using java.awt.Robot to send keyPresses to the game window. I have the following code block written in my listener program: if(interacting) { Robot robot = new Robot(); robot.keyPress(VK_A); robot.delay(20); //to simulate the normal keyboard rate } Now the variable interacting will be true as long as the user presses down on the touch screen of the phone, and what I intend to achieve is a continuous chain of keystroke messages being delivered to the game (through the listener). However, this is severely affecting performance, for some reason. I am noticing that the game becomes slow (rapidly dropping frame rates), and even the computer becomes slow, in general. What's going wrong? Should I use a robot.keyRelease(VK_A) after each keyPress? But my game has a different action mapped to the release of a key, and I do not want rapid key presses and releases; what I really want is to simulate continuous keystrokes, in exactly the way it would behave if the user were pressing down the A key on their keyboard manually. Please help.

  • Thread Locking CollectionViewSource

    - by Robert
    I added an event handler to my code and it broke all access to the CollectionViewSources in the SystemHTA class saying "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it". My class was working when "this.systemHTA = new SystemHTA();" was placed outside of the DeviceManager_StateChanged() function. public partial class MainWindow : Window { private DeviceManager DeviceManager = DeviceManager.Instance; public SystemHTA systemHTA; public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); } private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { DeviceManager.StateChanged += new EventHandler<DeviceManagerStateChangedEventArgs>(DeviceManager_StateChanged); DeviceManager.Initialize(); } void DeviceManager_StateChanged(object sender, DeviceManagerStateChangedEventArgs e) { if (e.State == DeviceManagerState.Operational) { this.systemHTA = new SystemHTA(); } } private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.systemHTA.GetViewSourceTest(); } } public class SystemHTA { private CollectionViewSource _deviceTestSource; public SystemHTA() { _deviceTestSource = new CollectionViewSource(); _deviceTestSource.Source = CreateLoadData<HWController>.ControllerCollection; } public void GetViewSourceTest() { ListCollectionView view = (ListCollectionView)_deviceTestSource.View; //This creates an error saying a thread already owns _deviceTestSource } }

  • How do I debug JavaScript .onlick event?

    - by user3700824
    I'm learning JavaScript but seem to be having a problem. I have a piece of code that is executed when the page is fully loaded. The function then gathers all the button elements on my HTML page. From here I loop through getting each button's title attribute and then assign an onclick event to the button that is equal to a function that writes to the console.log with the title. I have tried various ways of doing this but it is not working. Here is the JavaScript code that I'm working with. Currently all it does is loop through calling the function and logging the tile to the console.log, but this is not supposed to happen. Each time I click the button it should call the function with its title and log that. window.onload = myPageIsReady; function myPageIsReady(){ var myList = document.getElementsByTagName("button"); var myTitle = []; for(var i = 0; i < myList.length; i++){ myTitle[i] = myList[i].getAttribute("title"); myList[i].onclick = getMyTitle(myTitle[i]); }; function getMyTitle(myTitle){ console.log(myTitle); }; };

  • Javascript Closures, Callbacks, This and That

    - by nazbot
    I am having some trouble getting a callback function to work. Here is my code: SomeObject.prototype.refreshData = function() { var read_obj = new SomeAjaxCall("read_some_data", { }, this.readSuccess, this.readFail); } SomeObject.prototype.readSuccess = function(response) { this.data = response; this.someList = []; for (var i = 0; i < this.data.length; i++) { var systemData = this.data[i]; var system = new SomeSystem(systemData); this.someList.push(system); } this.refreshList(); } Basically SomeAjaxCall is making an ajax request for data. If it works we use the callback 'this.readSuccess' and if it fails 'this.readFail'. I have figured out that 'this' in the SomeObject.readSuccess is the global this (aka the window object) because my callbacks are being called as functions and not member methods. My understanding is that I need to use closures to keep the 'this' around, however, I have not been able to get this to work. If someone is able show me what I should be doing I would appreciate it greatly. I am still wrapping my head around how closures work and specifically how they would work in this situation. Thanks!

  • jQuery and Ajax

    - by Banderdash
    Can anyone help with a jQuery snippet that would use Ajax to pull an XML file in on page load? Have really clunky way of doing it without jQuery here: <script type="text/javascript"> function loadXMLDoc() { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { xmlDoc=xmlhttp.responseXML; var txt=""; x=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("title"); for (i=0;i<x.length;i++) { txt=txt + x[i].childNodes[0].nodeValue + "<br />"; } document.getElementById("checkedIn").innerHTML=txt; } } xmlhttp.open("GET","ajax-response-data.xml",true); xmlhttp.send(); } </script> Ideally rather the having a click generate the list it would do so on page load, showing the fields from the XML (title, author, and whether it is checked in or not i.e. <book id="#" checked-in="0">) Would hug you for a solution.

  • PHP.ini Settings Are Ignored By PHP5.3.5 Running With Windows 7 And Apache 2.2.15

    - by Andy
    I did an install of PHP5.3.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium using the MSI installer download. I got it to overwrite a previous version of PHP5 in C:\php5\ When first testing it, the server failed to start. I fixed this by adding the path to PHP in the Apache2.2 httpd file where the installer had inserted 2 lines of coded pointing to the ini file directory and the PHP DLL but had left out the directory path. After doing this, the server starts ok and I can run phpinfo to view the PHP settings in my web browser on local host. In the phpinfo it states that the loaded configuration file is C:\php5\php.ini as expected. But if I make any changes to the settings, and reboot the server, none of the changes are reflected in phpinfo. Yes, I do refresh the browser window. If I rename the php.ini to something else to make it invisible phpinfo then correctly identifies that there is no php.ini file loaded. So the settings in php.ini are being ignored and some default settings are being used (but I have no idea where these are derived from). As far as I can tell, there are no other php.ini files on my computer. In phpinfo it states that the Configuration File (php.ini) Path is C:\Windows but this is the same as on a Windows XP computer that I work on. And in the windows folder I don't see any php.ini file. In the windows registry, there is no mention of PHP5, and the PATH environment variable starts with C:\php5\; So hopefully someone can suggest how I can get PHP5 to take notice of the C:\php5\php.ini settings. :)

  • OpenCV. cvFnName() works, but cv::FunName() doesn't work

    - by Innuendo
    I'm using OpenCV to write a plugin for a simulator. I've made an OpenCV project (single - not a plugin) and it works fine. When I added OpenCV libs to the plugin project, I added all libs required. Visual Studio 2010 doesn't highlight any code line with red. All looks fine and compiles fine. But in execution, the program halts with a Runtime Error on any cv::function. For example: cv::imread, or cv::imwrite. But if I replace them with cvLoadImage() and cvSaveImage(), it works fine. Why does this happen? I don't want to rewrite the whole script in old-api-style (cvFnName). It means I should change all Mat objects to IplImages, and so on. UPDATE: // preparing template ifstream ifile(tmplfilename); if ( !FILE_LOADED && ifile ) { // loading template file Mat tmpl = cv::imread(tmplfilename, 1); // << here occurs error FILE_LOADED = true; } Mat src; Bmp2Mat(hDC, hBitmap, src); TargetDetector detector(src, tmpl); detector.detectTarget(); If I change to: if ( !FILE_LOADED && ifile ) { IplImage* tmpl = 0; tmpl = cvLoadImage(tmplfilename, 1); // no error occurs } And then no error occurs. Early it displayed some Runtime Error. Now, I wanted to copy exact message and it just crashes the application (simulator, what I am pluginning). It displays window error - to kill process or no. (I can't show exact message, because I'm using russian windows now)

  • Multiple usage of MenuItems declared once (WPF)

    - by Alex Kofman
    Is it possible in WPF to define some menu structure and than use it in multiple contexts? For example I'd like to use a set of menu items from resources in ContextMenu, Window's menu and ToolBar (ToolBar with icons only, without headers). So items order, commands, icons, separators must be defined just once. I look for something like this: Declaration in resources: <MenuItem Command="MyCommands.CloneObject" CommandParameter="{Binding SelectedObject}" Header="Clone"> <MenuItem.Icon> <Image Source="Images\Clone.png" Height="16" Width="16"></Image> </MenuItem.Icon> </MenuItem> <MenuItem Command="MyCommands.RemoveCommand" CommandParameter="{Binding SelectedObject}" Header="Remove"> <MenuItem.Icon> <Image Source="Images\Remove.png" Height="16" Width="16"></Image> </MenuItem.Icon> </MenuItem> <Separator/> <MenuItem Command="MCommands.CreateChild" CommandParameter="{Binding SelectedObject}" Header="Create child"> <MenuItem.Icon> <Image Source="Images\Child.png" Height="16" Width="16"></Image> </MenuItem.Icon> </MenuItem> Usage: <ToolBar MenuItems(?)="{Reference to set of items}" ShowText(?)="false" /> and <ContextMenu MenuItems(?)="{Reference to set of items}" />

  • iPhone Simulator - Restores Plist - Weird Issue

    - by David Schiefer
    Hi All, today I've come across a rather weird issue. After adding code to validate a key (i added it below), the Simulator refuses to let go of the old plist file. I deleted the simulator folder in the Application Support folder, then deleted the *build directory and restarted xcode & build & run my app...still the same issue. the old plist is still there and 100% identical. I then changed the identifier and the snippet's validation keys, the plist however stayed the same. basically, no matter what i do it won't go. the same thing happens on the iphone itself. I have checked through the code, i don't create the key anywhere, but it still returns YES for it at every restart. Here's the code I added: + (void)initialize{ ////////////////////////////SPECIFING THE PREDATA/////////////////// NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSDictionary *appDefaults = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:[NSNumber numberWithBool:NO] forKey:@"protect"]; [defaults registerDefaults:appDefaults]; } if ([[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] boolForKey:@"protect"] == NO) { [navigationController pushViewController:help animated:YES]; [help.navigationItem hidesBackButton]; } else { [window addSubview:passcode.view]; [self performSelector:@selector(responder) withObject:nil afterDelay:1]; } as a result, it will always go for the else option, which for some reason, doesn't get executed either. I assumed an error but the log is empty and there's no crash.

  • Most awkward/misleading method in Java Base API ?

    - by JG
    I was recently trying to convert a string literal into a boolean, when the method "boolean Boolean.getBoolean(String name)" popped out of the auto-complete window. There was also another method ("boolean Boolean.parseBoolean(String s)") appearing right after, which lead me to search to find out what were the differences between these two, as they both seemed to do the same. It turns out that what Boolean.getBoolean(String name) really does is to check if there exists a System property (!) of the given name and if its value is true. I think this is very misleading, as I'm definitely not expecting that a method of Boolean is actually making a call to System.getProperty, and just by looking at the method signature, it sure looks (at least to me) like it should be used to parse a String as a boolean. Sure, the javadoc states it clearly, but I still think the method has a misleading name and is not in the right place. Other primitive type wrappers, such as Integer also have a similar method. Also, it doesn't seem to be a very useful method to belong in the base API, as I think it's not very common to have something like -Darg=true. Maybe it's a good question for a Java position interview: "What is the output of Boolean.getBoolean("true")?". I believe a more appropriate place for those methods would be in the System class, e.g., getPropertyAsBoolean; but again, I still think it's unnecessary to have these methods in the base API. It'd make sense to have these in something like the Properties class, where it's very common to do this kind of type conversions. What do you think of all this ? Also, if there's another "awkward" method that you're aware of, please post it. N.B. I know I can use Boolean.valueOf or Boolean.parseBoolean to convert a string literal into a boolean, but I'm just looking to discuss the API design.

  • Programmatically filtering contacts in Outlook 2010 Add-In

    - by Leon Havin
    I am trying to programmatically filter Outlook contacts in the Contacts folder in Outlook 2010. I followed DASL filter rules, but it seems working for Find function and throws exception when I assign this filter to view.Filter = FilterString. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? The correct result would display filtered contacts in the existing contacts view. Outlook.Application myApp = ThisAddIn.myApp; Outlook.NameSpace myNamespace = ThisAddIn.nSpace; Outlook.MAPIFolder myContactsFolder = ThisAddIn.contactsFolder; if (myContactsFolder == null) { Log.Verbose("Contacts folder not found"); return null; } Outlook.Items contactItems = ThisAddIn.contactItems; //use filter to take only contact and not DistListItem Outlook.Items outlookContacts = contactItems.Restrict("[MessageClass] = 'IPM.Contact'"); Outlook.ContactItem contact = null; int iOutlookContacts = contactItems.Count; if (iOutlookContacts > 0) { string FilterString = "[FullName]='" + param + "'"; // Find works with this filter contact = (Outlook.ContactItem)outlookContacts.Find(FilterString); if (contact != null) { // need to display in contacts search window Outlook.View currentView = myApp.ActiveExplorer().CurrentView; currentView.Filter = FilterString; // cannot parse exception occurs here currentView.Save(); currentView.Apply(); } }
