• How should I mock out my data connectivity

  I'm trying to unit test my Data Access Layer and I'm in the process of trying to mock my data connectivity to unit test my DAL and I'm coming unstuck trying to mock out the creation of the commands. I thought about using a queue of IDbParameters for the creation of the parameters, but the unit tests then require that the parameters are configured in the right order. I'm using MOQ and having looked around for some documentation to walk me through this, I'm finding lots of recommendation not to do this, but to write a wrapper for the connection, but it's my contention that my DAL is supposed to be the wrapper for my database and I don't feel I should be writing wrappers... if I do, how do I unit test the connectivity to the database for my wrapper? By writing another wrapper? It seems like it's turtles all the way down. So does anyone have any recommendations or tutorials regarding this particular area of unit testing/mocking?

• lookup datasource in context every time, Is it right?

  In my application i configured more than one datasource (for diff databases). Whenever user sends a request depends upon user category i need to look up for the respective datasource in the context and get a connection from that datasource to execute queries which are assigned to that user. Is it right way to achieve my requirement? I am using tomcat 6, struts 1.3. The databases may be oracle or mysql or both. Give me an optimized solution. Thanks in advance.

• Beginners PHP / mySQL question

  I'm brand new to PHP & MySQL, and one function I'm creating needs to access a large table or database. I've created the database and it's currently in a MySQL table, which I'm accessing with no problem. The table is 11,000 rows in length, with 8 columns (all text less than 8 characters long) - it's static, and will never change. Without getting too particular, my users will hit a button which will trigger scripts to access the data, say 500 times or more. So in general would it be better practice to include all of this data in a big 'switch' or 'if... then' conditional right in my scripts, rather than opening and accessing the database connection hundreds, or maybe even thousands of times? It just seems like that might be a bottleneck waiting to happen. Thanks!

• javascript function pointer and "this"

  I'm passing a method as a variable to be used as a callback. When its called, the "this" is not the object the method is a member of. How do I go about getting access to the method's object instance so I can get access to it variables and other member functions? I have no control over the callback call method, its a separate library. All I do is call the binding from my object init method. • Socket.io Duplicate clients on a namespace

  Hi I'm trying to use dynamic namespace to create them on demand. • Can't figure out what's wrong with my php/sql statement

  So this is probably a dumb beginner question, but I've been looking at it and can't figure it out. A bit of background: just practicing making a web app, a form on page 1 takes in some values from the user, posts them to the next page which contains the code to connect to the DB and populate the relevant tables. • Inserting empty string into auto_increment column in MySQL 5

  Hi, I've inherited a project which we are trying to migrate to MySQL 5 from MySQL 4.0(!) and from myISAM to InnoDB. Queries are now falling down because they are being constructed using an ADODB connection's -qstr() on all parameters, including ints. Where no value is provided I end up with: INSERT INTO tablename VALUES ('', 'stuff'...) where the first column is an auto_increment. This causes an error (fair enough since '' isn't an int). Is there a switch in MySQL to make it behave as it used to (I assume it just silently converted to 0?) Thanks.

• How to have a run in an Service?

  I have implemented an service that runs in a seperate process. This service contains a separate thread where i have a socket connection. This thread has a run() where it is continuously sending data to the port. My problem is after triggering the run() in the thread i don't get any contact with it anymore, i can see in the program that have open the socket that it consciously sends the data but the idea was that i while it is running i could change data that it sends for an example time. here is my run in the external thread: public void run() { if(run) { // Team and player names message is sent when entering in a game setBaseMessage(); SendMessageToCOMPort(base_message + CalculateCRC(base_message)); sleep(); // waits for 100 ms } } Anyone have any idea what might be wrong ?

Is it good idea to have something like this in my code? : $is_local = (strpos($_SERVER['http_host'], 'localhost') !== false); define ('DEBUG',$is_local); And then use it through my code, when setting stuff? $mysql_settings = (DEBUG) ? array(/*localhost settings*/) : array(/*live settings*/); This way, I can use the same files live and on localhost, so I can sync without any fear of having wrong e.g. connection settings on live server.   I am new to objective c programming. I am currently trying to insert data into mysql database. I have read a couple links on this and could not find the exact answer I am looking for. Here is what I am trying to do: I have my app that user inputs a name in a text field and once the press the add button, it makes a connection to my php file and my php file does the rest of the work (using POST method) and adds the name to the mysql dataase. I have seen a lot of people use NSMutableURLRequest : setHTTPMethod :POST`` in their code (in my case my php file does that and I don't haveNSMutableURLRequest` included in my code and it works perfectly fine.) My questions are: Are there any benefits of including NSMutableURLRequest in your code when you can just call your php code to take care of the POST for you? What does NSMutableURLRequest exactly do and which way is more efficient?

  In order to fix a bug, I have to iterate over all the rows in a table, updating a cached count of children to what its real value should be. The structure of the things in the table form a tree. Alternatively, is there any way of doing this in multiple queries, but in pure MySQL? I want something like UPDATE table_name SET children_count = ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name AS tbl WHERE tbl.parent_id = table_name.id ) except the above doesn't work (I understand why it doesn't).

• iPhone App/Java Server Struct Data Issue over WiFi

  I currently have an iPhone app that communicates with a C++ server running on a computer, over WiFi. This app is sending its data (x,y coordinates) in a c-struct to the server. For further development, we would like the iPhone application to communicate directly with a java server, however the major issue is that java does not have the ability to emulate or use a c-struct. What would be the best way to send data (x,y coordinates) between the two devices? I can already establish a connection between the two devices. • Can single-buffer blocking WSASend deliver partial data?

  I've pretty much always used send() with sockets and now I'm moving onto the WSA functions. With send(), I have a sendall() helper that ensured all data is delivered even if it didn't happen in one try and a partial send occurred on first call. So, instead of learning the hard way or over-complicating code when I don't have to, decided to ask you: Can a blocking WSASend() send partial data or does it send everything before it returns or fails? Or should I check the bytes sent vs. expected to send and keep at it until everything is delivered? ANSWER: Overlapped WSASend() does not send partial data but if it does, it means the connection has terminated. I've never encountered the case yet.

Get an error about "Not Found" or "Connection brocken" or what ever. In FF i get no error, only blank page. I found out the Problem is in lenght of the query i send... but how can i fix it??? My it be the Problem, if a query is longer then 6000 Characters?

  Friends I have install a .net window application exe at client machine and its database in sql server 2000. For Exe I install .net framework and other support software and for DB i install sql server 2000 and Create Database over there and connect it. Working Properly But now client change Xp to window7. I search for installation of SQL Server 2000 , but its not working over there. So what i did, i send the MDF file of database with exe application and make connection string and its also working. Now i change something in DB , and trying to update .mdf file but its not reflecting the new one mdf its getting the old one. i am Stuck...... am i did any wrong ? because its difficult for me to fix. OR i want to know what is the efficient way of use of SQL Server 2000 database on window7 or any else solution is there? Please help me...
