• MySQL: How to separate a name field in one table into firstname / lastname in two separate tables?

  I have a drupal database where the node table is full of profiles. The field node.title is "Firstname Lastname". I want to separate the names so that node.title = "Firstname", and over in another table entirely, content_type_profile.field_lastname_value = "Lastname". The entries in the two tables can be joined on the field nid. I'd love to run a SQL command to do this, and I am fine with taking the naive approach that the first word is the first name, and everything else in the field is last name -- it will mean a few manual corrections down the line, but that's much better than doing it all by hand in the first place. (I read this question and surely the answer lies in there but I am not that SQL-savvy and am not sure how to make it work for my database.) Thanks!

• If cookie found, get data, else create cookie, is this good logic?

  I have an Action that basically adds an item to a cart, the only way the cart is known is by checking the cookie, here is the flow of logic, please let me know if you see any issue... /order/add/[id] is called via GET action checks for cookie, if no cookie found, it makes a new cart, writes the identifier to the cookie, and adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart created if cookie is found, it gets the cart identifier from the cookie, gets the cart object, adds the item to the database with a relation to the cart found so it's basically like... action add(int id){ if(cookie is there) cart = getcart(cookievalue) else cart = makecart() createcookie(cart.id) additemtocart(cart.id, id) return "success"; } Seem right? I can't really thing of another way that would make sense.

• Entity Framework 4 & WCF Data Service: N:M mapping

  I have three tables in my database: An A table, a B table, and a many-to-many ABMapping table. For simplicity, A and B are keyed with identity columns; ABMapping has just two columns: AId and BId. I built an Entity Framework 4 model from this, and it did correctly identify the N:M mapping between A and B. I then built a WCF Data Service based on this EF model. I'm trying to consume this WCF Data Service. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to get a mapping between As and Bs to map back to the database. I've tried something like this: A a = new A(); B b = new B(); a.Bs.Add(b); connection.SaveChanges(); But this doesn't seem to have worked. Any clues? What am I missing?

  I have a table with 4 columns, and I need to check to see if a Column Pair exists before inserting a row into the database: INSERT INTO dbo.tblCallReport_Detail (fkCallReport, fkProductCategory, Discussion, Action) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?) The pair in question is fkCallReport and fkProductCategory. For example if the row trying to be inserted has fkCallReport = 3 and fkProductCategory = 5, and the database already has both of those values together, it should display an error and ask if they would like to combine the Disuccsion and Action with the current record. Keep in mind I'm doing this in VBA Access 2010 and am still very new.

  A portion of my program requires a "flag" retrieval, that is I am fetching a value that is either True or False, and based on this return value two things could follow. 1) The flag is true, aka "go ahead", and I retrieve data from a database. 2) The flag is false, and I want to prevent the data from being retrieved. Now, this check has to be performed before any function that would call upon the database in question. I decided to implement this check in the form of an event handler attached to GUI objects that would trigger this data inquiry. This check event handler is called first upon necessary events, and my question is: How do I stop subsequent event handlers from firing if the FIRST event handler (my flag checker) comes up FALSE? • What scenarios/settings will result in a query on SQL Server (2008) return stale data

  Most applications rarely need to display 100% accurate data. For example if this stack overflow question displays that there have been 0 views, when there have really been 10, it doesn't really matter. This is one way that the (perceived) performance of applications can be improved, by caching results and therefore sometimes not showing 100% accurate results. There are some cases where the data does need to be 100% accurate though. So if I run the query select * from Foo I want to be sure that the results are not stale. Now depending on how my database is set up, other activity on the database, use of transactions and isolation levels etc this query may or may not be a true reflection of the world. What scenario's and settings can people think of that will result in this query returning stale results or given that another connection is part way through a transaction that has updated this table, how can I guarantee that when the above query returns, the results will be accurate.

• Error comparing hash to hashed mysql password (output values are equal)

  Im trying to compare a hashed password value in a mysql database with the hashed value of an inputted password from a login form. However, when I compare the two values it says they aren't equal. So they were stored in my private branch. Now I'm trying to migrate to "modern" nowadays DSCM - Mercurial. And I cannot get any possibility of doing the same. Any ideas?

  I have, in EF5, two entities: User and Role. Between User and Role there is a many to many relation. I don't have an entity for the UserRoles database which sets the relation. I have a User and I want to delete a role without loading it from the database. • index was outside the bounds of the array because of \n (new line) in richTextBox

  If i go into the next line with richTextBox1.Text + "\n" you can't use richTextBox with anything anymore normally. Why not ? because index will be outside the bounds of the array and you won't be able to transport the data into database or work with it normally...it will be all messed up. It is like the story with cin and getline in C++, but much worse. Here you won't see errors, not until you'll try to transport it into database. If you use "\n" to write new lines into txt, your txt will be also unusable. It will look like up to the byte the same as if you would write it by hand same sentences but "\n" will fuck it up. So how do i go into the next line and not have this "\n" screwing up my program ??! How do i go into the new line ?

  I am coding an application for my company wherein i want to parse the results of a mysql query and display them in my application but i am facing a problem conecting to the database. the ip address of the server is : 172.30.192.20 and before i can ping it i have to add route on my pc something like this route add 172.30.192.0 mask 255.255.255.0 172.30.192.56 where 172.30.192.56 is the gateway Now whenever i try to connect 172.30.192.20 which is where the sql server is running my appplication instead connects to 172.30.192.56 i am coding the application in delphi and have used TmySQL After this didnt workout i tried an application called SQLwave. I just entered the server ip address and was able to connect to the database without any problems. it seems sqlwave uses mydac which is why even i tried using it but using the default connection options and setting i was still not able to connect. it seems sqlwave uses a custom connection using mydac i just want to know whats going wrong with my connection

  I am tapping into a service that provides zip codes tax information - there service is a bit shakey, so I want to copy their database over and run the results off my own server while using their service to just update my table. I dont want to cache the images since I am using them in bulk and want to release them as soon as the view being displayed where the images are used is popped up.   I work with a ASP.NET UI framework that pulls fields for a particular screen off a database. These fields can be associated with particular data fields in another database for binding. The idea with this setup is that if a client needs a new column on a table, they can easily add it, and create a UI field that binds to it without any sort of application restart or recompile. The problem I've always had with this is that it has meant I'm always having to work with untyped datasets in my code. Are there any ORM libraries for .NET out there that could easily accommodate the requirement of being able to access arbitrary columns in the table schema over and above ones mapped to strongly typed fields?

  I'm thinking about encrypting MP3s in a database, so that when user is downloading them with his software desktop player, only the software can decrypt them. This part is not a problem. The problem is I don't want a user to upload an mp3 to the database, then check which changes have been made to the file so he can reverse-engineer the file or at least see which algorithm is used to encrypt the files. So, user uploads MP3-A, then it becomes MP3-B because it has been modified, and I encrypt it to MP3-C. And when decrypted, it sounds 99.99% like MP3-A. I know MP3 format is lossy, but I wonder if there's a way to convert audio with limited loss, or if I need to forget it right now.

  I'm attempting to use a double to represent a bit of a dual-value type in a database that must sometimes accept two values, and sometimes accept only one (int). So the field is a float in the database, and in my C# code, it is a double (since mapping it via EF makes it a double for some reason... ) So basically what I want to do .. let's say 2.5 is the value.   The use case is simple. I allow users to enter in an expiration field which needs to be between 1 and 15 into a form. The model takes that number and converts it into a datetime (such as adding 15 days from today) and stores it in the database. What's the correct way to actually validate that though? Do I validate against the datetime format that gets persisted in the database or the select box (1..15) that the user gets to pick through the form? I want to be able to validate that the user is putting in 1..15.. How is this done with ActiveRecord validation in Rails 2.3.5?

  Hello, I am running into a wall regarding changing the password and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Here are the database values prior to changing the password: Clear Text password = abc1980 Encrypted Password = Yn1N5l+4AUqkOM3WYO7ww/sCN+o= Salt = 82qVIhUIoblBRIRvFSZ1fw== After I change my password to abc1973, salt remains the same, but the Encrypted Password changes which is supposed to happen: Encrypted Password = rHtjLq3qxAl/7T1GfkxrsHzPsNk= However, when I try to login with abc1973 as the password, it does not login. If I try abc1980, it logs me in. It is updating the database, is it caching the values somewhere? Any ideas?
