  • casting char* to char**

    - by blue_whale
    I am having a tough time understanding the following piece of code: int stride = 512; int max_len = 1024 * stride; char *addr = (char *)malloc(max_len); for (int i=stride; i<max_len; i += stride) *(char **)&addr[i-stride] = (char*)&addr[i]; *(char **)&addr[i-stride] = (char*)&addr[0]; Looking at the code it seems this is trying to create some kind of circular link list. But I have no clue what those casts are actually doing.

  • What makes Groovy+Grails a more productive setup than J2EE?

    - by Pradyumna
    I'm coming across references to 'Grails' and 'Groovy' quite often these days.. mostly on how great a productivity booster it is as opposed to standard J2EE, or things like JSF, Struts etc.. And there's also an impressive set of case studies in support of this on their web site too. So I just thought I would explore some of it.. As I start off on this, I was curious if there was any material (link, blog, article, paper..) that explains what are the special features in Grails+Groovy (and not found elsewhere, in the J2EE world) that makes it a more productive environment to work in? Thanks!

  • Mootools event leak

    - by user572263
    The example to demonstrate the issue can be found here: link text The test shows a basic Mootools class that contains an element variable with a click event attached. There’s also a “cleanup” function to remove the event and nullify the element variable. My problem is that when I loop a thousand times to create the “LeakClass” instance and clean it up, it causes a major memory leak like there’s no tomorrow. I tested this on IE8 and Chrome. On the other hand what I’ve noticed is that if I comment out the line that adds the “click” event, the code doesn’t leak. Can somebody please help me structure the class/event in a manner that it doesn’t leak. Thanks in advance.

  • Secure method for linking to image files uploaded via custom CMS

    - by letseatfood
    How does one provide a direct URL for an image file (JPEG) that is secure? For example, if a PHP script writes uploaded images to directory http://www.somehost.com/images, is it okay to provide http://www.somehost.com/images/someimage.jpg as the URL, or is there a more secure way to do this? Should I look into something like the permalink feature that is a part of Wordpress? I am not sure if that is related. The main reason I ask is that I have a custom PHP/MySQL CMS for managing images. I would like for the client to be able to copy a link to the image they want and then include it in a TinyMCE text editor for inserting the image in their website. Thanks!

  • C# RichTextBox - Partially setting DetectUrls=false

    - by Suds
    Hi, I have this RichTextBox and I have embedded some http links in it. I have set DetectUrls = true, and it displays the links correctly and handles in the event. In the same RichTextBox, I have one more string displayed which looks like this Type http://< Your host name Now, since DetectUrls= true, the portion "http://<" is displayed as a link, while I want this to be text. If I set the DetectUrls=false just before displaying this string, none of the other links are displayed as links. Is there a way to partially set DetectUrls for some strings and not for others? Thanks

  • jquery datepicker - retrieve events and show on hover in dialog - allow the a href to be clicked to access individual event entries

    - by paul724
    Please see this jsfiddle - http://jsfiddle.net/paul724/HXb6v/ What is working: The datepicker displays correctly, picks up the css for todays date and on hover. The dialog box follows the mouse On click the dialog box "stops" and displays a link What I want to achieve When a table cell is hovered over the title of the dialog box shows the date e.g "Mon 8th Oct 2012" When a table cell is hovered over the html of the dialog box shows the events for that day in list format (there is code that succesfully retrieves the first row in function getSelectedDates() ) function getSelectedDates() needs to be called in the hover event - showing multiple events for that date in the dialog box I hope that if we can display the date being hovered over in the title of the dialog then we can use the same information to retrieve the rows from the database to populate the html of the dialog for that day

  • How does OfType<T>() Work?

    - by TheCloudlessSky
    How does OfType() Work? I read this link about what's going on but how exactly does the LINQ provider know how to get all objects matching the specified type. I know the IQueryable<T> "chains" up requests and then evaluates when GetEnumerator() is called (right?). Specifically I want to know how does the framework quickly do type comparison? I wrote a method in a .NET 2.0 project that went like this (since 2.0 doesn't support these kind of features): public IEnumerable<TResult> OfType<TResult>() where TResult : class { foreach (TItem item in this.InnerList) { TResult matchItem = item as TResult; if (matchItem != null) { yield return matchItem; } } } Is this the best implementation?

  • Colored sphere in OpenGL

    - by Michael
    Ok so here's link to code in c++ http://pastebin.com/nfPmd0um (with polish comments ;) I would like to make a sphere divided by four planes. Each part of sphere should have a different color. At the moment it displays only 2 colored parts. I know that something's wrong with that part of code in Display() function: glEnable (GL_CLIP_PLANE0 +i); glDisable (GL_CLIP_PLANE1 -i); glEnable (GL_CLIP_PLANE2 +i); glDisable (GL_CLIP_PLANE3 -i); Anyone know what should i change? Thanks in advance :)

  • Showing val as html inside of a div in real time.

    - by smudge
    I'm using the following in order to have on screen display of each value of a checkbox that's selected with great results when it's displayed inside a textbox. I'd like to change it so that I can show a real time display in a div as html instead of a textbox. A link to a working demo is here and below is the script. I know it's probably a basic line or two but i'm still learning and new. thanks! function updateTextArea() { var allVals = []; $('#c_b :checked').each(function() { allVals.push($(this).val()); }); $('#t').val(allVals) } $(function() { $('#c_b input').click(updateTextArea); updateTextArea(); });

  • What is an alternative to eval in this situation?

    - by CppLearner
    Many of my view functions do similar things. For the most part, they reverse to a different views upon clicking a button / a text link. So I wrote a helper function render_reverse def render_reverse(f, args): # args are all string type return eval('reverse(' + f + ', ' + args + ')' ) eval is a bad practice, and is pretty slow. It takes 3 seconds to start redirecting, whereas calling reverse directly takes less than 1 second to start redirecting. What alternative do I have? By the way, the function above doesn't work properly. I was modelling after this line (which works) eval('reverse("homepage", args=["abcdefg"])') Thanks.

  • How to hide URL from users when submitting this form?

    - by Camran
    I have a form with many many fields... When submitting these fields, I use the POST method which hides the actual variables passed along to the PHP page. However, I can't get rid of the complete link. Changing from GET to POST did make all the form fields invisible in the URL, but this part is still visible: mydomain.com/bin/query# I want it to be invisible, or say: mydomain.com/search I have mod_rewrite enabled so there is a possibility to do this with mod_rewrite I think, but I am new to mod_rewrite so I need your help... How should I hide this URL? If you need more input let me know...

  • [Java] Listening for TCP and UDP requests on the same port

    - by user339328
    I am writing a Client/Server set of programs Depending on the operation requested by the client, I use make TCP or UDP request. Implementing the client side is straight-forward, since I can easily open connection with any protocol and send the request to the server-side. On the servers-side, on the other hand, I would like to listen both for UDP and TCP connections on the same port. Moreover, I like the the server to open new thread for each connection request. I have adopted the approach explained in: link text I have extended this code sample by creating new threads for each TCP/UDP request. This works correctly if I use TCP only, but it fails when I attempt to make UDP bindings. Please give me any suggestion how can I correct this. tnx

  • monitoring streaming server and display throughput

    - by I__
    Scenario: laptop (running RHEL 5.3 / 5.4) with Wi-Fi allowing incoming connections (the laptop is the DHCP server and default gateway of any device that connects to it). The laptop has a streaming server installed (my app). I need to program an app that could monitor this link (device / streaming server) and display the throughput. More importantly, I need this app to be able to throttle the throughput. Think WANem but as an app, or netlimiter but (way) simpler and for RHEL. If you need clarifications, let me know. is there a library that could help me? i've done mostly windows business applications programming, and i have no clue about this stuff. please help me to get started!

  • How to specify 2 different positions for Colorbox or Fancybox on the same page?

    - by Eric
    I know this question has been asked before, but I'm having difficulty implementing it. I'm looking for a more specific answer. Here is my html code: <head> <meta charset=utf-8 /> <title>ColorBox Examples</title> <style type="text/css"> body{font:12px/1.2 Verdana, Arial, san-serrif; padding:0 10px;} a:link, a:visited{text-decoration:none; color:#416CE5; border-bottom:1px solid #416CE5;} h2{font-size:13px; margin:15px 0 0 0;} </style> <link media="screen" rel="stylesheet" href="colorbox.css" /> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="../colorbox/jquery.colorbox.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ //Examples of how to assign the ColorBox event to elements $(".example7").colorbox({width:"80%", height:"80%", iframe:true}); $(".example7").colorbox({width:"80%", height:"80%", iframe:true}); }); </script> </head> <body> <p><a class='example7' href="http://google.com">Outside Webpage 1 (Iframe)</a></p> <p><a class='example7' href="http://google.com">Outside Webpage 2 (Iframe)</a></p> (Excuse the wrong indentation - I had to mess with the formatting to get the body content to show up.) Here is my CSS code(default colorbox code): #colorbox, #cboxOverlay, #cboxWrapper{position:absolute; top:0; left:0; z-index:9999; overflow:hidden;} #cboxOverlay{position:fixed; width:100%; height:100%;} #cboxMiddleLeft, #cboxBottomLeft{clear:left;} #cboxContent{position:relative; overflow:visible;} #cboxLoadedContent{overflow:auto;} #cboxLoadedContent iframe{display:block; width:100%; height:100%; border:0;} #cboxTitle{margin:0;} #cboxLoadingOverlay, #cboxLoadingGraphic{position:absolute; top:0; left:0; width:100%;} #cboxPrevious, #cboxNext, #cboxClose, #cboxSlideshow{cursor:pointer;} #cboxOverlay{background:#fff;} #colorbox{} #cboxContent{margin-top:32px;} #cboxLoadedContent{background:#000; padding:1px;} #cboxLoadingGraphic{background:url(images/loading.gif) no-repeat center center;} #cboxLoadingOverlay{background:#000;} #cboxTitle{position:absolute; top:-22px; left:0; color:#000;} #cboxCurrent{position:absolute; top:-22px; right:205px; text-indent:-9999px;} #cboxSlideshow, #cboxPrevious, #cboxNext, #cboxClose{text-indent:-9999px; width:20px; height:20px; position:absolute; top:-20px; background:url(images/controls.png) no-repeat 0 0;} #cboxPrevious{background-position:0px 0px; right:44px;} #cboxPrevious.hover{background-position:0px -25px;} #cboxNext{background-position:-25px 0px; right:22px;} #cboxNext.hover{background-position:-25px -25px;} #cboxClose{background-position:-50px 0px; right:0;} #cboxClose.hover{background-position:-50px -25px;} .cboxSlideshow_on #cboxPrevious, .cboxSlideshow_off #cboxPrevious{right:66px;} .cboxSlideshow_on #cboxSlideshow{background-position:-75px -25px; right:44px;} .cboxSlideshow_on #cboxSlideshow.hover{background-position:-100px -25px;} .cboxSlideshow_off #cboxSlideshow{background-position:-100px 0px; right:44px;} .cboxSlideshow_off #cboxSlideshow.hover{background-position:-75px -25px;} Can someone please tell me how this can be achieved?   • link_to_remote and jquery accordion

    - by badnaam
    I have a standard jquery ui accordion and I load content into it using a link_to_remote tag (in the accordion header). All this works fine. The problem is, once the content is loaded, I dont want a ajax call, I just want the accordion to fold, like it should normally do. I tried doing this using the following jquery but clicking the header hence the link still makes a request. #lbs_list is the div inside the accordion. $j('#lnk_show_benefit').bind('click', function(e) { if ($j('#lbs_list').is(':visible')) { e.preventDefault(); return false; } else { return true; } });

  • How do you use the C language to produce a ruby gem?

    - by DJTripleThreat
    I would like to see some source code or maybe a link to some that gives at least a stub for writing ruby gems in the C languages (C++?? is that possible too?) Also, some of you may know that Facebook compiles some of their code natively as php extensions for better performance. Is anyone doing this in Rails? If so, what has been your experience with it? Have you found it to be useful? Thanks. Edit: I guess I'll answer my own question with some stuff I learned today but I'm going to leave the question open for another answer because I'd like to see what others have to say on this topic

  • HTML anchor #bottom, only going half-way down page

    - by RewbieNewbie
    http://www.planet-tolkien.com/board/44/621/0/poll-suggestions It's due to the multiple "bottom of the page" anchor links on each post to the anchor name at the bottom of the page. I tried to solve this by using a unique id and name for the attributes: <a href="#bottom" id="4656" name="4656"> But this hasn't worked. Suggestions? P.S. Don't use the URL bar, yes that works. Visit the page and click on a link in a post that says "Bottom of the page". This is where it isn't working.

  • How to set AssemblyInfo.cs based on the tfs project build number?

    - by Ahok Rudraraju
    The project is hosted on a tfs server and I need to access the build number which I assume is automatically generated when ever you build a project. I need to retrieve that build number and display it on the web pages so that QAs and testing people know exactly which build they are working on. I found how to create customize build numbers in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa395241(v=vs.100).aspx but it dose not solve my problem as I do not have access to the build definition file. I am looking for some kind of post deployment task which can access the build number or may be generate one and probably write it down to a file, from where I can read it. I don't know if that makes any sense as this is my first time working on .Net
