  • how to make an array of arrays

    - by yuliya
    hi, how would you write an array of values to other array. In instance, I have a list of IPs and list of requests. I want to have something like [{ip1, request1}, {ip2, request2}, ....]. It's how I would do it, but sure obj will change every time and array will have all the time the same values. ArrayList array = new ArrayList(); Object[] obj = new Object[2]; for (int i=0; i<listSize; i++){ obj[0] = ipList.get(i).toString(); obj[1] = requestList.get(i); array.add(obj);

  • Preparing for the next C++ standard

    - by Neil Butterworth
    The spate of questions regarding BOOST_FOREACH prompts me to ask users of the Boost library what (if anything) they are doing to prepare their code for portability to the proposed new C++ standard (aka C++0x). For example, do you write code like this if you use shared_ptr: #ifdef CPPOX #include <memory> #else #include "boost/shared_ptr.hpp" #endif There is also the namespace issue - in the future, shared_ptr will be part of the std, namespace - how do you deal with that? I'm interested in these questions because I've decided to bite the bullet and start learning boost seriously, and I'd like to use best practices in my code. Not exactly a flood of answers - does this mean it's a non-issue? Anyway, thanks to those that replied; I'm accepting jalfs answer because I like being advised to do nothing!

  • Tiny C Compiler and Virus warnings...

    - by NoMoreZealots
    I wanted to try out the TCC and got the Win32 Binary zip file from the website. upon decompressing it I tried to compile the "hello_win.c" source from the example directory. As soon as the compiler tried to write to the disk McAfee Popped up a dialog box and identified a Trojan named "Generic.dx." Has anyone else experience this? Dropping a virus into a compiler would be a sneaky, but brilliant, delivery mechanizism. I just want to know if this is a legit threat.

  • Solving C++ 'target of assignment not really an lvalue' errors

    - by Jason
    Given this code: void FrMemCopy(void *to, const void *from, size_t sz) { size_t sz8 = sz >> 3; size_t sz1 = sz - (sz8 << 3); while (sz8-- != 0) { *((double *)to)++ = *((double *)from)++; } while (sz1-- != 0) { *((char *)to)++ = *((char *)from)++; } } I am receiving target of assignment not really an lvalue warnings on the 2 lines inside the while loops. Can anyone break down those lines? a cast then an increment? What is a simplier way to write that? What does the error mean?

  • C struct print, decode this code?

    - by pauliwago
    I am in the process of studying for a test, and I'm trying to work through some practice problems. I've been working on this a while now..but can't figure it out. Please take a look at the code fragment: union { int i; short x; unsigned short u; float f; } testout; testout.i=0xC0208000; Before I ask the question, can someone please explain to me how the above code works?? My guess is that testout.i=0xC0208000 puts either an int, short, unsigned short, or float and puts the result in that address. (?) The question is what prints out if we write printf("%d", testout.x)? I know we should expect digits....but I have no idea where they are getting the digits from....there is no output. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    - by Shrewd Demon
    hi, i have an SQL statement wherein i am trying to update the table on the client's machine. the sql statement is as follows: BEGIN TRANSACTION DECLARE @CreatedBy INT SELECT @CreatedBy = [User_Id] FROM Users WHERE UserName = 'Administrator' --//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// --//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// PRINT @CreatedBy --(Works fine here and shows me the output) PRINT N'Rebuilding [dbo].[Some_Master]' ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Some_Master] ADD [CreatedBy] [BIGINT] NULL, [Reason] [VARCHAR](200) NULL GO PRINT @CreatedBy --(does not work here and throws me an error) PRINT N'Updating data in [Some_Master] table' UPDATE Some_Master SET CreatedBy = @CreatedBy COMMIT TRANSACTION but i am getting the following error: Must declare the scalar variable "@CreatedBy". • Is there anyway to create live streaming Server using WCF? (see specification below)

    - by Ole Jak
    Is there any way to create live streaming Server using WCF? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. I need code examples or OpenSource projects. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope.

  • Double use of variables?

    - by Vaccano
    I have read that a variable should never do more than one thing. Overloading a variable to do more than one thing is bad. Because of that I end up writing code like this: (With the customerFound variable) bool customerFound = false; Customer foundCustomer = null; if (currentCustomer.IsLoaded) { if (customerIDToFind = currentCustomer.ID) { foundCustomer = currentCustomer; customerFound = true; } } else { foreach (Customer customer in allCustomers) { if (customerIDToFind = customer.ID) { foundCustomer = customer; customerFound = true; } } } if (customerFound) { // Do something } But deep down inside, I sometimes want to write my code like this: (Without the foundCustomer variable) Customer foundCustomer = null; if (currentCustomer.IsLoaded) { if (customerIDToFind = currentCustomer.ID) { foundCustomer = currentCustomer; } } else { foreach (Customer customer in allCustomers) { if (customerIDToFind = customer.ID) { foundCustomer = customer; } } } if (foundCustomer != null) { // Do something } Does this secret desires make me an evil programmer? (i.e. is the second case really bad coding practice?)

  • How do i change Object to String in a class which extends AsyncTask?

    - by Filip V.
    I'm learning from Google's Android developing tutorial and i came across a problem. On this link https://developer.android.com/training/basics/network-ops/connecting.html#AsyncTask it says to create a class that extends AsyncTask. So when i write the class it automatically implements the method as follows: private Object doInBackground(Object... args) {..} //it's fine but when i try writing just as it says in the tutorial: private String doInBackground(String... args) {..} //it gives an error and the error says: The method doInBackground(String...) of type MainActivity.DownloadWebpageText must override a superclass method. So how do i change Object to String without getting an error there?

  • Launch Activity with Intent Filter on Right Time

    - by user511853
    Hi. I want to launch my own media player application when I want to watch a video from Youtube. When I write android:scheme="http" and android:host="m.youtube.com" it is OK. But, it asks everywhere in m.youtube.com to open my app. So, it gets annoying. I tried to use pathPattern, pathPrefix and path to solve this but I didn't get ahead. All I want is clearly this: When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F%gl=US#" the intent filter shouldn't launch my app. When the link is like "http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=k3Cdqx1qFX8" my application should be launched. Is there anyone that can help me?

  • How can I determine what text on a webpage will render the largest?

    - by TMG
    I'd like to write a function (ideally in PHP) where I can input a url and return a string corresponding to the hypertext from that webpage which would render the largest in a browser (any standard browser is fine). Getting the webpage and tokenizing things with DOM is pretty straightforward, but what's the best way to calculate ultimate size of the rendered text tokens - how do you account for CSS that includes px, em, % etc. for different font sizes. Anyone done something like this before I go and re-invent the wheel? Thanks in advance.

  • In silverlight how do you scrub a string

    - by jvcoach23
    I have a string that looks like this " Into" and I can't figure out what the " " value is just before the Into. It's not a space, it's not an enter. At least i don't think so. I've tried doing a replace to get rid of it.. So now i'm just trying to figure out what that character value is. Convert.int32 doesn't get it done... What can i use to get rid of that character... I guess i could write a function that would loop through the alphabet and do it that way.. but figured there was a better way. thanks shannon

  • Is there a 'catch' with FastFormat?

    - by Roddy
    I just read about the FastFormat C++ i/o formatting library, and it seems too good to be true: Faster even than printf, typesafe, and with what I consider a pleasing interface: // prints: "This formats the remaining arguments based on their order - in this case we put 1 before zero, followed by 1 again" fastformat::fmt(std::cout, "This formats the remaining arguments based on their order - in this case we put {1} before {0}, followed by {1} again", "zero", 1); // prints: "This writes each argument in the order, so first zero followed by 1" fastformat::write(std::cout, "This writes each argument in the order, so first ", "zero", " followed by ", 1); This looks almost too good to be true. Is there a catch? Have you had good, bad or indifferent experiences with it? CW on this question, as there's probably no right answer...

  • C++ Basic Class Layout

    - by Spencer
    Learning C++ and see the class laid out like this: class CRectangle { int x, y; public: void set_values (int,int); int area () {return (x*y);} }; void CRectangle::set_values (int a, int b) { x = a; y = b; } I know Java and methods(functions) in Java are written within the class. The class looks like a Java interface. I know I can write the class like this: class CRectangle { int x, y; public: void set_values (int a, int b) { x = a; y = b; }; int area () {return (x*y);} }; But is there a difference or standard?

  • List filtering: list comprehension vs. lambda + filter

    - by Agos
    I happened to find myself having a basic filtering need: I have a list and I have to filter it by an attribute of the items. My code looked like this: list = [i for i in list if i.attribute == value] But then i thought, wouldn't it be better to write it like this? filter(lambda x: x.attribute == value, list) It's more readable, and if needed for performance the lambda could be taken out to gain something. Question is: are there any caveats in using the second way? Any performance difference? Am I missing the Pythonic Way™ entirely and should do it in yet another way (such as using itemgetter instead of the lambda)? Thanks in advance

  • parsing command option with default values and range constrains in C

    - by agramfort
    Hi, I need to parse command line arguments in C. My arguments are basically int or float with default values and range constrains. I've started to implement something that look like this: option_float(float* out, int argc, char* argv, char* name, description, float default_val, int is_optional, float min_value, float max_value) which I call for example with: float* pct; option_float(pct, argc, argv, "pct", "My super percentage option", 50, 1, FALSE, 0, 100) however I don't want to reinvent the wheel ! My objective is to have error checking of range constrains, throw an error when the option is not optional and is not set. And generate the help message usually given by usage() function. The usage text would look like this: --pct My super percentage option (default : 50). Should be in [0, 100] I've started with getopt but it is too limited for what I want to do and I feel it still requires me to write too much code for a simple usecase like this. thanks

  • Scala, make my loop more functional

    - by Pengin
    I'm trying to reduce the extent to which I write Scala (2.8) like Java. Here's a simplification of a problem I came across. Can you suggest improvements on my solutions that are "more functional"? Transform the map val inputMap = mutable.LinkedHashMap(1->'a',2->'a',3->'b',4->'z',5->'c') by discarding any entries with value 'z' and indexing the characters as they are encountered First try var outputMap = new mutable.HashMap[Char,Int]() var counter = 0 for(kvp <- inputMap){ val character = kvp._2 if(character !='z' && !outputMap.contains(character)){ outputMap += (character -> counter) counter += 1 } } Second try (not much better, but uses an immutable map and a 'foreach') var outputMap = new immutable.HashMap[Char,Int]() var counter = 0 inputMap.foreach{ case(number,character) => { if(character !='z' && !outputMap.contains(character)){ outputMap2 += (character -> counter) counter += 1 } } }

  • Compiler: Translation to assembly

    - by sub
    I've written an interpreter for my experimental language and know I want to move on and write a small compiler for it. It will probably take the source, go through the same steps as the interpreter (tokenizer, parser) and then translate the source to assembly. Now my questions: Can I expect that every command in my language can be 1:1 translated to a bunch of assembly instructions? What I mean is if I will have to completely throw over the whole input program or if it is just translated to assembly per line. Which assembler should I use as output format?
