  • Iterate set covered by cross-product of ranges in ruby

    I figured this answer had been asked before, so I searched, but I couldn't find anything. Granted, there are a ton of Ruby Array questions, so it might be there, just buried. In any case, I'm trying to reduce a cross-product of ranges, returning a sum of all elements of the cross-product that meet some set of conditions. To construct a trivial example, if I have an array like this: [0..1,0..1,0..1] I'd like to iterate over this set: [ [0,0,0], [0,0,1], [0,1,0], [0,1,1], [1,0,0], [1,0,1], [1,1,0], [1,1,1] ] and return a sum based the condition "return 1 if i[0] == 1 and i[2] == 0" (which would give 2). In my contrived example, I could do it like this: br = 0..1 br.reduce(0){|sumx, x| sumx + br.reduce(0){|sumy, y| sumy + br.reduce(0){|sumz, z| sumz + (x == 1 and z == 0 ? 1 : 0) } } } , but in the actual application, the set of ranges might be much larger, and nesting reduces that way would get quite ugly. Is there a better way?

  • Shift operator in Java bizarre program output

    I came across the following program and it behaving in unexpected manner. public class ShiftProgram { public static void main(String[] args) { int i = 0; while(-1 << i != 0) i++; System.out.println(i); } } If we think about this program output, when it reaches 32 while loop condition should return false and terminate and it should print 32. If you ran this program, it does not print anything but goes into an infinite loop. Any idea whats going on? Thank you in advance.

  • Filter rows from Cursor so they don't show up in ListView

    I have a Cursor that returns rows I use with a SimpleCursorAdapter to populate a ListView. I would like to filter some of the rows so they don't get displayed in my ListView. I use the data from the rows elsewhere in my Activity so I don't want to change my SQL to filter them with a WHERE clause. What is the best way to keep a row from being displaying in my ListView? Ideally I would check a column in my row and then only add rows to the ListView that satisfy a condition.

  • Embedded C++, any tips to avoid a local thats only used to return a value on the stack?

    I have a local that's only used for the purposes of checking the result from another function and passing it on if it meets certain criteria. Most of the time, that criteria will never be met. Is there any way I can avoid this "extra" local? I only have about 1MB of storage for my binary, and I have several thousand function calls that follow this pattern. I know it's a minor thing, but if there's a better pattern I'd love to know!   • What is the impact/limitation of oracle select with large number of bind variables?

    We had our oracle server chocking during processing a select statement with close to 3500(!!) bind variables. This select is, obviously, build dynamically by code that we can't change. During the execution of this select the db server went to 100% cpu usage and our system almost halted. We know how to reproduce this problem. So we can prevent this specific condition. But I am wondering if there is a way to protect the db ( by configuration) from this type of problems.

Now in order to check concurrency condition I tried the following use case opened application in chrome and firefox browser. deleted user in firefox now trying to delete the same user in chrome browser I get exception org.hibernate.StaleObjectStateException .. which is right .. since I am trying to delete an object which doesn't exists. But I am not able to catch this exception try{ getHibernateTemplate().delete(userObj); } catch (StaleObjectStateException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } How do i catch this exception ??

    Whenever a new window is opened and the drop value by default is 'yyyy'(For eg: yyyy for years), onclick of the drop down the value should automatically change to current year, which will be one of the values in the dropdown list (any place in the drop down). So now the value will be set to the current year. Again if the user clicks on the dropdown, the user can change the value to any(For eg: select 'yyyy'). So now the value set in drop down is 'yyyy'. condition 3, if the user clicks on the drop down since the value is 'yyyy' , focus should be the current year and also the value automatically.     In jQuery, filter() reduces your result to those elements that fulfill a certain condition. This splits the list in two parts. Working with the "good half" of the elements is easy: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return result; }).each( /* do something */ ); But how can I work with the "other half" of my elements, too - but without doing the equivalent of this: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return !result; }).each( /* do something else */ ); Basically, I'd like to feed two separate /* do something */ parts to a single filter. One for those that match, and one for the others - without having to filter twice. Am I missing a jQuery function that does this? P.S.: I guess I could do: $("some selector").each(function() { // determine result... if (result) /* do something */ else /* do something else */ }); But I was hoping for something nicer.

Let me explain the scenario that I want to achieve:- Consider the below as the Layout I have inside a Parent_Linearlayout: [Linear Layout] (Fill_Parent, Wrap_Content) [ScrollView] Activity's setContentView is set to the Parent_Linearlayout In the application, when a condition is met, I want the Scrollview to be removed from the screen and instead put another View in its place.<br> I've been able to do this, When I remove the ScrollView, I'm applying translate Animation to it so that it seems as if the View has gone to the top, before removing it. But when the animation occurs, the ScrollView translates OVER the Linear layout present above it. How do I restrict it, so that the scrollview does not go over the linear layout, but disappears at the base of the Linearlayout. I want the linearlayout to always stay visible.. I've been trying to do this from quite some time, but I've not been able to get desired results.. Could someone kindly help me out here??

  • Good code visualization / refactoring tools for C++?

    I've found myself coming across a lot of reasonably large, complicated codebases at work recently which I've been asked to either review or refactor or both. This can be extremely time consuming when the code is highly concurrent, makes heavy use of templates (particularly static polymorphism) and has logic that depends on callbacks/signals/condition variables/etc. Are there any good visualization tools for C++ period, and of those are there any that actually play well with "advanced" C++ features? Anything would probably be better than my approach now, which is basically pen+paper or stepping through the debugger. The debugger method can be good for following a particular code path, but isn't great for seeing the big picture you really need when doing serious refactoring. EDIT: I should mention that Visual Studio plugins aren't going to be a lot of help to me, since our stuff is mostly Linux-only.

  • How to do Linq aggregates when there might be an empty set?

    I have a Linq collection of Things, where Thing has an Amount (decimal) property. I'm trying to do an aggregate on this for a certain subset of Things: var total = myThings.Sum(t => t.Amount); and that works nicely. But then I added a condition that left me with no Things in the result: var total = myThings.Where(t => t.OtherProperty == 123).Sum(t => t.Amount); And instead of getting total = 0 or null, I get an error: System.InvalidOperationException: The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Decimal which is a non-nullable value type. That is really nasty, because I didn't expect that behavior. I would have expected total to be zero, maybe null - but certainly not to throw an exception! What am I doing wrong? What's the workaround/fix?

    For online ordering of concert seat or airline ticket, do we need Record Level Locking or is Transaction good enough? For concert ticket (say, seat Number 20B), or airline ticket (even with overbooking, the limit is 210, for example), I think the website cannot lock any record or begin transaction when showing the ticket purchase screen. But after the user clicks "Confirm Purchase", then the server should Begin a Transaction, Purchase Seat Number 20B, and try to Commit. If another user already bought Seat 20B in a previous transaction, then it is the "Commit" part that the current transaction will fail? So... we don't need Record Level Locking? Do Transactions always go serialized (one after another), so that's why we can know for sure there is no "race condition"? In what situation is Record Level Locking needed then?

    I am working in asp.net using the gridview control. I have a button column that I create dynamically as such: ButtonField bfSelect = new ButtonField(); bfSelect.HeaderText = "View"; bfSelect.ButtonType = ButtonType.Link; bfSelect.CommandName = "View"; bfSelect.Text = "View"; grdAttachments.Columns.Add(bfSelect); The text on the button is the same for every row. I was wondering if there was any way to have the text be different for different rows depending on a condition. When I try to look at the text property of a particular row it is blank, if I try to set it, it does not change. Thanks in advance. Bob
