  • Is it possible to use binary nvidia driver with GeForce 7300 SE?

    I have an Nvidia GeForce 7300 SE. It worked fine with the nvidia driver when I was using 10.10. When I upgraded to 12.04, the (nvidia-current) binary driver failed---I couldn't even get a login screen. The "nouveau" driver works okay, but the display is quite sluggish. I've read about the fact that my GeForce is blacklisted (here and here). But, when I tried the suggested workaround of using nvidia-173, I discovered that it wouldn't install because of a failed dependency: xorg-video-abi-10 (Package not available). The "precise" nvidia-173 package page notes this (dependency bug?) So, my real question: is there a GeForce 7300 SE workaround for 12.04?

  • How can I install the Realtek RTL8111E version 8168 driver?

    I downloaded and extracted the latest Linux driver version from Realtek. I read the readme file and it instructed me to run ./autorun.sh as root. I did that. It compiled the driver for my kernel, removed the old default module, but then it fails to install the new 8168 module. It claims that it can't be found. Can this driver be installed manually? Is there a way to fix autorun.sh so it can install properly?

  • What is the "don't force full gpu scalling" configuration in the newest Nvida driver settings?

    I have a Zotac Ion board on a computer running Linux ad I had the driver version 295.xx. I was trying to run a 1080 video on XBMC and, because playback was a bit sluggish, part of my (unsuccessful) attempt at making it run smoothly was to upgrade the Nvidia driver. The problem is that the computer is connected by HDMI to a Pioneer A/V system - which in turn is connected to the TV (also through HDMI). When I created this set up I didn't get any image on my tv until I Unchecked "force full gpu scaling" in "Flat Panel Scaling". After upgrading the Nvidia driver I no longer have image. Upon investigating, I saw on the release changelog: Removed Flat Panel Scaling configurability in nvidia-settings. Any desired scaling can be configured through the new "ViewPortIn" and "ViewPortOut" MetaMode attributes. I know very little about this, however, so I'm lost. What would the correct configuration be with these new ViewPortIn/Out options to achieve the same result as "unchecking force full gpu scalling"?

    I have a device which would be interface with my processor through pcie. I have written driver for it using the existing pci file operations. Now my problem is how do I access it from user space programs? PCI File operations do not have IOCTL support and hence I cant make an ioctl call unlike other char devices. I cannot use pci_config_read_byte etc. functions as they are meant for kernel space(included in linux/pci.h).

    Is it possible to execute raw commands as javascript through the Java driver for MongoDB? I'm tired of wrapping everything in Java objects using Rhino, and would happily sacrifice performance for the convenience of passing javascript directly through to the DB. If not, I can always use sleepymongoose or something, but I don't really want to add yet another language (python) to the stack at this point. Any insights are appreciated.

  • Is the Realtek network driver on Windows Update fixed yet?

    Months ago i was experiencing problems with my networking, and was hoping the updated Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) driver available from Microsoft on Windows Update would fix the problems. Instead, after the reboot, the network device failed to start, and the driver had to be rolled back. I'm not the only person to get this problem, it even was dealt with by a superuser. A co-worker experienced the exact same problem, and we independently came up with the same solution: hide the updated driver in Windows Update. So I've continued to have my network troubles, and i still need an updated driver. Is the version of the Realtek driver on Windows Update fixed yet? i know Microsoft never pulled it down, but maybe it's been up-updated. i really don't want to find out by downloading it. Can someone else confirm that it's no longer broken - or can someone else be my guinea pig?

  • Is my motherboard failing, or is there some other issue?

    So, several months ago I put together my own desktop PC. I set up a dual boot to Windows and Ubuntu. Recently, without changing any settings or installing anything new, the wifi stopped working on windows (I use a wifi adapter). It said it was connected, Network settings showed that it was working and running trouble shooting had no results. My internet still works on any other device. I found that removing the adapter from the motherboard and plugging it back in was the only thing that fixed the problem. Reinstalling the wifi drivers did not help. I purchased a new Wifi adapter, but the problem persists. More recently, I had a much more discouraging development. Sometimes, turning on the computer results in a boot loop: BIOS never starts. Instead, the monitor turns on as if it got a signal, then immediately turns off. This loops on it's own indefinitely until I hold down power, hard reset it, and try again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't tested much on the Ubuntu side. It appears that wifi works at least some of the time, but since I've had issues just getting to BIOS I'm not confident the issue is on the software side. I've also noticed issues with some of the USB ports no longer working, but that seems to be off and on. Finally, as of a few minutes ago, I booted to windows to discover that everything was running very slowly. Slow here is a relative word, but I have a Samsung 840 pro SSD and I'm used to applications running nigh instantly, and it was a solid 3 minutes before any of my applications would load. Anyway, my question is this: Is it likely that my motherboard is failing? Either way, what steps can I take to try and pin down the problem and figure out what to do?

    I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection.     Has anyone had any success in using the Enter USB TV Box from Enter Multimedia? It comes bundled with software that works in Windows. I have had no luck using it in Ubuntu 10.10. In the dmesg tail command, I found something that seems to be related to the card: usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 usb 1-5: config 1 interface 0 altsetting 1 bulk endpoint 0x83 has invalid maxpacket 256 Update 2 From Windows I learned that this USB TV tuner uses some chipset from Gadmei corporation. All computer stores in India sell Enter USB TV Box if you ask for an USB TV tuner. No other brand seems to be interested in this market. Update 3 I learned that this TV tuner is rebranded version of Gadmei UTV302 (USB TV Tuner Box). Update 4 I tried adding em28xx as the chipset (as suggested by user BOBBO below) for the tuner but that did not work. I went back to my Pinnacle PCTV internal card. I don't think the tuner referred by UbuntuForums (Gadmei UTV 330) and the tuner that I have (Gadmei UTV 302) are the same. My USB tuner is several times bigger. My tuner seems to be a newer device with a newer tuner chip. I will submit details of this device to the LinuxTV developers this weekend. Update 5 I opened the tuner box and found that it uses a tuner from a Chinese company - Tenas. Model is TNF 8022-DFA. Update 6 Tuner chip specs (retrived from supplier directory) for Tenas TNF 8022-DFA. Supply voltage: true 5V device(low power dissipation) Control system: I2C bus control of tuning, address selection Tuning system: PLL controlled tuning Receiving system: system PAL D/K,IF(Intermediate Frequency): 38MHz Receiving channels: full frequency range from channel DS1 (49.75MHz) to channel DS57 (863.25MHz); Use Texas Instruments SN761678 IC solution, with mini install size Update 7 Reverse side of the circuit board.   • Interface builder UIButton custom background image not working on simulator/device

    I'm trying to do something really simple. I have an image for a button and I'm trying to set it on a custom button in interface builder. I set the background image accordingly (no case sensitivity problem here). In interface builder it shows up, but in the simulator or on the device it doesn't appear at all. Just the button's text will appear. Do I need to turn on some flag or something of the sort?
