  • Run a script prior to start of SQL instance via Windows clusters

    Hi, We have a Windows 2008 cluster with several SQL 2008 instance. We would like to run a script that modifies 4 registry keys prior to the startup of SQL. I do not know if there is a way to have a script run through Windows 2008 clustering that does that. I have a VBS script to do it and tried to add a Generic Script to an existing cluster group, but it failed saying it could not be registered. Any ideas?

  • SQL Agent Command Line Not Saved

    I have a SSIS package I am trying to schedule. I create a new job under SQL Server Agent. On the Command line tab of the jobstep, I choose "Edit the command-line manually". The changes are retained as I switch from tab to tab within the job step but whenever I exit and save the job, the changes are lost. Any ideas what's going on? I'm on SQL Server 2008.

  • Don't see job schedule in SQL Mgmt UI added by sp_add_jobschedule

    I'm running a script like below on a SQL Server box and, even though it finishes correctly, then when, on SQL Mgmt UI, I right click on that job's properties, go to Schedules, I cannot see the schedule just added... what am I missing? (I'm using the right job_name param, etc) thanks!     I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 Express Edition, and it's demanding Windows Powershell and refusing to proceed with the installation. Is there any way to get it to install without Powershell? (The reason I'm asking is not so much for myself personally as to reduce the number of headaches through which I'm going to have to drag other people when I tell them my program needs SQL Server.)

    we got some connections timeouts running a stored procedure in a SQL Server 2008 instance. after a while, the DB started to work as usual, and there weren't any additional timeout errors. So I'm trying to get additional info about the error. Does SQL server 2008 have any kind of error log that I can look into? Do exist any auditing/logging features that I can activate to trace the error (if it happens again)?

  • Deny login from certain hosts if logging in with specific sql credentials

    I want to stop some of our developers from connecting to the production sql server using a specific sql account. They have rights to connect through windows authentication with lower rights. They claim that changing the password will affect too many other processes running on our processing machine. So I want to deny access if they're connecting from there dev machines for now. Another way this would work is if I could just allow connections from one specific host.

  • Add an Excel file as a linked server in SQL 2012

    I'm trying to add a linked server to an Excel 2010 file from SQL Server 2012. Every reference I've found online for doing this is using older versions of SQL Server, and the driver that they tell you to use 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', is not present in 2012 from what I can tell.     When SQL Server builds a fulltext index computer resources are consumed (IO/Memory/CPU) Similarly when you perform full text searches, resources are consumed. How can I get a gauge over a 24 hour period of the exact amount of CPU and IO(reads/writes) that fulltext is responsible for, in relation to global SQL Server resource usage. Are there any perfmon counters, DMVs or profiler traces I can use to help answer this question?

    I need to be able to export SQL Server logs into CSV files, which I can easily do with the export function. However in doing so I've noticed there's a range of dates missing from the SQL Server logs in Management Studio, two months actually. I'm wondering where these logs might be found, and if it's possible to reload them so I can view and then export them. They're strictly for informational purposes, but I do need them. Is there a similar function with PHP/SQL Server? What steps do I need to take in order to protect against SQL injection with SQL Server? What are the differences between SQL Server and MySQL pertaining to SQL injection prevention? also - is this post accurate? is the escape string character for SQL Server a single quote?

  • Debugging SQL in PGAdmin3 when sql contains variables

    In SQL Server I could copy sql code out of an application and paste it into SSMS, declare & assign vars that exist in the sql and run.. yay great debugging scenario. e.g. (please note I am rust and syntax may be incorrect) declare @x as varchar(10) set @x = 'abc' select * from sometable where somefield = @x I want to do something simular with postgres in pgadmin3 (or another postgres tool, anyy reccomendations?) I realise you can create pgscript, but it doesn't appear to be very good, for example, if I do the equlivent of above, it doesn't put the single quotes around the value in @x, nor does it let me by doubling them up and you don't get a table out after - only text... Currently I have a peice of sql someone has written that has 3 unique varibles in it which are used around 6 times each... So the question is how do other people debug sql this sql EFFICIENTLY, preferably in a simular fashion to my sql server days.

  • tightvnc authentication failure

    When I run a tightvnc client to establish a VNC session I sometimes receive an error message that suggests there are repeated failed VNC login attempts or a brute force attack. The message dialog title is "unsupported security type" and the text content is "too many authentication failures, try another connection? yes/no". This problem goes away if I reboot the Ubuntu server and reload the VNC server program and try again. From that point, it will work for multiple VNC sessions. My VNC sessions are typically about 20 minutes. At some time in the future, the problem may recur so it seems correlated to the time the server has been up or the time tightvnc has been loaded. Typically it takes only a day or so before the problem comes back. I am using tightvnc 1.3 on an server running Ubuntu 12.04. The version of vncserver is rather dated because that seems to be all that is available from tightvnc for linux servers. On the client side I use the newest Java-based VNC client (version 2.5) for both Windows access and Ubuntu access. All my VNC sessions are via SSH. I am the only user and I will typically use only the same client computer. How can I stop this problem from recurring? Edit I found the log file. This is a small excerpt of what I am seeing. Essentially, various IPs, not my own, are attempting to connect.   • Forms authentication failed between web server and sql server

    I've actually found the solution, but I'm trying to understand why it failed, and why my solution fixed the problem. We have an application that uses forms authentication between a web server and sql server, web server runs server 2008, sql server runs 2008 r2, and sql server 2008. In august the sql server was patched with .net 3.5.1, the web server was untouched, and the forms authentication continued to work. 1 week ago we virtualized the web server onto our vSphere server because of failing hardware. Afterwards the form authentication failed with event code 4005, detail code 50201, The ticket supplied was invalid (on the sql server). In fact the sql server started generating Schannel errors and began blue screening 3-4 times a day. At this point I touched the sql server for the first time(ever), the errors were non specific, any reference to them I could find had to do with either zone alarm(which we don't run), or memory errors. So I applied service pack 1, which stopped the blue screening, but did not fix the forms authentication. At this point we had a work around, so we put it on the back burner while we completed another project, and I was able to get back on it last night. First thing was to adjust some code in the webconfig file on the sql server, nothing, next was regenerate and change out the machine key, still no change. Update the DNS servers, no change. Finally I went through and installed all windows updates, two reboots, (over RDP installed a network card driver which failed, and did not have my server room key, that was fun). After that, forms authentication was working again. And the sql server stopped generating as many errors, I've gotten two schannel errors since then. In short, forms authentication began failing when the web server was cloned onto a virtual machine, which caused the sql server to blue sceen? and forms authentication to fail. And could only be fixed by applying patches to the sql server?(I'm wishing I had patched the servers one at a time so I could know for sure which patch on which server fixed it). My question is why did it fail, and why did patching fix it? I hate fixing something without fully understanding the why and how.

In so doing, we'd like to establish a transitional phase where both LDAP and AuthUserFile work. Does Apache support fall through authentication mechanisms? I'm reading the documentation and it's still not clear either way.
