  • jquery ui is not scaling text properly!

    - by Stephen Belanger
    I'm trying use jquery ui to scale a div that I'm dragging around to make it easier to see what's behind it, but any text inside it is scaling strangely. The text itself becomes smaller, but it seems to have a bunch of padding around it and is floating now. The text extends past the bottom of the div even though it should be contained properly by the div. I put a red border around the lines of text and the borders are the same size as the original text. I'm not really sure what to do to get this to work... HTML: <div class="item draggable" id="item-1'"> <div class="image-block"> <a class="delete-button" title="delete me!" href="/remove/1" onclick="return $(this).confirm(\'Really remove this image?\');">X</a> <a class="image" href="/edit/1"><img src="/someimage.jpg" /></a> <div class="clear-block"></div> </div> <h3>Some title</h3> </div> CSS: div.image-list div.item { float:left; background:#fff; width:150px; padding:5px; margin:4px; border:1px solid #d3d5d6; } div.image-list div.item h3 { margin:0; padding:0; border:solid 1px #F00; } div.image-list div.item div.image-block a.delete-button { float:right; position:relative; background:#fff; display:none; top:0.8em; margin-bottom:-20.0em; width:3em; height:1.8em; padding:0.2em 1em; } div.image-list div.item div.image-block a.image { float:left; display:block; } .clear-block { clear:both; } jquery: $(".draggable").draggable({ helper: 'clone', start: function(ev, ui) { $(ui.helper).effect( "scale", { percent: 50 }, 200 ); } });

  • JQuery Ajax Updating MySQL Database, But Not Running Success Function

    - by myrmidon16
    I am currently using the JQuery ajax function to call an exterior PHP file, in which I select and add data in a database. Once this is done, I run a success function in JavaScript. What's weird is that the database is updating successfully when ajax is called, however the success function is not running. Here is my code: <!DOCTYPE html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.6.4.js"></script> </head> <body> <div onclick="addtask();" style="width:400px; height:200px; background:#000000;"></div> <script> function addtask() { var tid = (Math.floor(Math.random() * 3)) + 1; var tsk = (Math.floor(Math.random() * 10)) + 1; if(tsk !== 1) { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "taskcheck.php", dataType: "json", data: {taskid:tid}, success: function(task) {alert(task.name);} }); } } </script> </body> </html> And the PHP file: session_start(); $connect = mysql_connect('x', 'x', 'x') or die('Not Connecting'); mysql_select_db('x') or die ('No Database Selected'); $task = $_REQUEST['taskid']; $uid = $_SESSION['user_id']; $q = "SELECT task_id, taskname FROM tasks WHERE task_id=" .$task. " LIMIT 1"; $gettask = mysql_fetch_assoc(mysql_query($q)); $q = "INSERT INTO user_tasks (ut_id, user_id, task_id, taskstatus, taskactive) VALUES (null, " .$uid. ", '{$gettask['task_id']}', 0, 1)"; $puttask = mysql_fetch_assoc(mysql_query($q)); $json = array( "name" => $gettask['taskname'] ); $output = json_encode($json); echo $output; Let me know if you have any questions or comments, thanks.

  • Algorithm: Determine shape of two sectors delineated by an arbitrary path, and then fill one.

    - by Arseniy Banayev
    NOTE: This is a challenging problem for anybody who likes logic problems, etc. Consider a rectangular two-dimensional grid of height H and width W. Every space on the grid has a value, either 0 1 or 2. Initially, every space on the grid is a 0, except for the spaces along each of the four edges, which are initially a 2. Then consider an arbitrary path of adjacent (horizontally or vertically) grid spaces. The path begins on a 2 and ends on a different 2. Every space along the path is a 1. The path divides the grid into two "sectors" of 0 spaces. There is an object that rests on an unspecified 0 space. The "sector" that does NOT contain the object must be filled completely with 2. Define an algorithm that determines the spaces that must become 2 from 0, given an array (list) of values (0, 1, or 2) that correspond to the values in the grid, going from top to bottom and then from left to right. In other words, the element at index 0 in the array contains the value of the top-left space in the grid (initially a 2). The element at index 1 contains the value of the space in the grid that is in the left column, second from the top, and so forth. The element at index H contains the value of the space in the grid that is in the top row but second from the left, and so forth. Once the algorithm finishes and the empty "sector" is filled completely with 2s, the SAME algorithm must be sufficient to do the same process again. The second (and on) time, the path is still drawn from a 2 to a different 2, across spaces of 0, but the "grid" is smaller because the 2s that are surrounded by other 2s cannot be touched by the path (since the path is along spaces of 0). I thank whomever is able to figure this out for me, very very much. This does not have to be in a particular programming language; in fact, pseudo-code or just English is sufficient. Thanks again! If you have any questions, just leave a comment and I'll specify what needs to be specified.

  • How to call a set of variables functions based on class on a group of elements

    - by user1547007
    I have the following html code: <i class="small ele class1"></i> <i class="medium ele class1"></i> <i class="large ele class1"></i> <div class="clear"></div> <i class="small ele class2"></i> <i class="medium ele class2"></i> <i class="large ele class2"></i> <div class="clear"></div> <i class="small ele class3"></i> <i class="medium ele class3"></i> <i class="large ele class3"></i> <div class="clear"></div> <i class="small ele class4"></i> <i class="medium ele class4"></i> <i class="large ele class4"></i>? And my javascript looks like so: var resize = function(face, s) { var bb = face.getBBox(); console.log(bb); var w = bb.width; var h = bb.height; var max = w; if (h > max) { max = h; } var scale = s / max; var ox = -bb.x+((max-w)/2); var oy = -bb.y+((max-h)/2); console.log(s+' '+h+' '+bb.y); face.attr({ "transform": "s" + scale + "," + scale + ",0,0" + "t" + ox + "," + oy }); } $('.ele').each(function() { var s = $(this).innerWidth(); var paper = Raphael($(this)[0], s, s); var face = $(this).hasClass("class1") ? class1Generator(paper) : class4Generator(paper); /*switch (true) { case $(this).hasClass('class1'): class1Generator(paper); break; case $(this).hasClass('class2'): class2Generator(paper) break; case $(this).hasClass('class3'): class3Generator(paper) break; case $(this).hasClass('class4'): class4Generator(paper) break; }*/ resize(face, s); }); my question is, how could I make this line of code more scalable? I tried using a switch but The script below is calling two functions if one of the elements has a class, but what If i have 10 classes? I don't think is the best solution I created a jsFiddle http://jsfiddle.net/7uUgz/6/ //var face = $(this).hasClass("awesome") ? awesomeGenerator(paper) : awfulGenerator(paper);

  • WFP Textblock in Listbox not clipping properly

    - by Tobias Funke
    Her's what I want: A listbox whose items consist of a stackpanel with two textblocks. The textblocks need to support wrapping, the listbox should not expand, and there should be no horizontal scrollbar. Here's the code I have so far. Copy and paste it into XamlPad and you'll see what I'm talking about. <ListBox Height="300" Width="300" x:Name="tvShows"> <ListBox.Items> <ListBoxItem> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Width="{Binding ElementName=tvShows, Path=ActualWidth}" TextWrapping="Wrap">Lost is an American live-action television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island.</TextBlock> <TextBlock Width="{Binding ElementName=tvShows, Path=ActualWidth}" TextWrapping="Wrap">Lost is an American live-action television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island.</TextBlock> </StackPanel> </ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem> <StackPanel> <TextBlock Width="{Binding ElementName=tvShows, Path=ActualWidth}" TextWrapping="Wrap">Lost is an American live-action television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island.</TextBlock> <TextBlock Width="{Binding ElementName=tvShows, Path=ActualWidth}" TextWrapping="Wrap">Lost is an American live-action television series. It follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island.</TextBlock> </StackPanel> </ListBoxItem> </ListBox.Items> </ListBox> This seems to be doing the job of keeping the textblocks from growing, but there's one problem. The textblocks seem to be slightly larger than the listbox, causing the horizontal scrollbar to appear. This is strange because their widths are bound to the lisbox's ActualWidth. Also, if you add a few more items to the listbox (just cut and paste in XamlPad) causing the vertical scrollbar to appear, the width of the textblocks do not resize to the vertical scrollbar. How do I keep the textblocks inside the listbox, with or without the vertical scrollbar?

  • Jquery hover with animation

    - by Brian
    anyone know how to stop a .hover happening again before the mouseout animation has finished? I have the following code which has 4 anchors. Once hovered over the anchor the related anchor slides in using animation. My problem is you hover out and in quickly, before the square has been set back to 0px it increases the slide distance. <body class="home"> <div id="container"> <a class="page-link homet" id="anim-1"></a> <a class="page-link about" id="anim-2"></a> <a class="page-link portfolio" id="anim-3"></a> <a class="page-link contacts" id="anim-4"></a> <div id="header"> <div id="logo"> </div> <ul id="navigation"> <li><a id="1"></a></li> <li><a id="2"></a></li> <li><a id="3"></a></li> <li><a id="4"></a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="main"> <div id="left-content"> </div> <div id="main-content"> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Jquery var cc = { displayAnim : function () { actionLink = $("#container #header #navigation li a"); movePosition = "0"; $("#container a.page-link").css({ position:"absolute", right: 0}); $(actionLink).hoverIntent( function() { circleToReveal = $(this).attr('id'); switch (circleToReveal) { case "1" : movePostion = "386" break; case "2" : moveposition = "514" break; case "3" : movePosition = "643" break; case "4" : movePosition = "400" break; default : movePosition = "772" }; /* console.log(movePosition); */ $("#container #anim-" +circleToReveal+ "").stop().animate({"right": "+="+ movePosition +"px"}, "slow"); }, function() { $("#container #anim-" +circleToReveal+ "").stop().animate({"right": "-="+ movePosition +"px"}, "slow"); } ); } }; $(window).load (function () { $("body").addClass('js'); $("a.pagelink").hide(); cc.displayAnim(); });

  • JSON image viewer not working in firefox

    - by jarga
    I have tried to find out why JSON is not working in Firefox all over this forum and the internet. It works on tablets, ie, safari. It works on my desktop in firefox. It only does not work after uploading I've tried a few things (commented out), such as mimeType with no solution. I have tried using the $.ajax with no better luck. Firefox had no javascript errors. I'm using jQuery 1.7. Console.log is printing out the data. $(document).ready(function(){ jQuery.support.cors = true; //$.ajaxSetup({ mimeType: "application/json" }); /*$.ajaxSetup({ scriptCharset: "utf-8" , contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8"}); */ // loading pictures $.getJSON("intro.json?format=json", function(data){ var links = ''; var imageload = ''; var title = ''; console.log(data) $.each(data, function(key, item){ links += ' <a href=' + item.image + '>' + key + '</a>'; imageload += '<img src="' + item.image + ' " />'; title += item.alt; }); $('.introCon').html(imageload); $('.introCon img').hide(); $('.introCon img:last').fadeIn(500); $('.introCon img').fadeIn(1000); rotatePics(2); }); }); function rotatePics(currentPhoto) { var numberOfPhotos = $('.introCon img').length; currentPhoto = currentPhoto % numberOfPhotos; $('.introCon img').eq(currentPhoto).fadeOut( function() { // re-order the z-index $('.introCon img').each(function(i) { $(this).css( 'zIndex', ((numberOfPhotos - i) + currentPhoto) % numberOfPhotos ); }); $(this).show(); setTimeout(function() {rotatePics(++currentPhoto);}, 3000); }); } Here is the simple JSON from a separate file. { "1" : { "image" : "portfolio/chrpic.png", "alt" : "Blah.", "detail": "Quartz"}, "2" : { "image" : "portfolio/mysspic.png", "alt" : "Landing page.", "detail": "Container"}, "3" : { "image" : "portfolio/decode-pic3.png", "alt" : "Decode this.", "detail": "Landing page 2"}, "4" : { "image" : "portfolio/simple-think-pic.png", "alt" : "Simple Think", "detail": "simpilify your life"} }

  • position:absolute within border-radius and overflow:hidden

    - by JaNightmare
    I had a problem with border-radius in webkit browsers and found the solution at the following URL: How to make CSS3 rounded corners hide overflow in Chrome/Opera but iam using a another element with position: absolute; inside this now I need to make the caption with rounded border too, but do not know how note: i can't use another border-radius in caption, because this will have an animation see the code with: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>Problem</title> <style type="text/css"> img { border: 0; } a { text-decoration: none; } .wrap-events { float: left; position: relative; width: 500px; height: 250px; } .events { overflow: hidden; -webkit-border-radius: 50px; -moz-border-radius: 50px; border-radius: 50px; } .caption { position: absolute; width: 100%; bottom: 0; color: #FFFFFF; background-color: #151515; font: 12px "Arial", Helvetica, sans-serif; opacity: 0.6; border-radius: 0 0 50px 50px; /* add border-radius to caption */ } .caption p { padding: 10px; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="wrap-events"> <div class="events"> <a href="#"> <img src="http://www.cg-auto.com.br/forum/imagens/imagens_news/26c4dc4359edcfd4c6871ee1fa958539.jpg" alt="image"> </a> <div class="caption"> <p>This is a caption</p> </div> </div> </div> <button id="slide">Slide It!</button> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $('#slide').click(function(){ $('.caption').hide().slideDown(2000); }); </script> </body> </html> cheers

  • pagerAnchorBuilder - trying to add classes

    - by Bert Murphy
    I'm using Cycle2 to build a carousel gallery and I've run into a little problem regarding styling the pager buttons. What I've gathered is that Cycle2 creates its own pager span tags for each slide which is a bummer becaus I've already styled my the sub-nav markup. This should be a minor issue as long as I can assign individual classes to the spans and change my css accordingly. However, I can't get this to work. TLDR: I was hoping that I could use pagerAnchorBuilder to create individual classes for each span. I can't. Help. The original markup (pre Cycle2) looks like the following: <div id ="sub-nav" class="sub-nav"> <ul> <li><a id="available" class="available" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reliable" class="reliable" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="use" class="use" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reports" class="reports" href="#"></a></li> <li class="last"><a id="software" class="software" href="#"></a></li> </ul> </div> With Cycle2 it looks like this (note the addition of the span tags) <div id ="sub-nav" class="sub-nav"> <ul> <li><a id="available" class="available" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reliable" class="reliable" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="use" class="use" href="#"></a></li> <li><a id="reports" class="reports" href="#"></a></li> <li class="last"><a id="software" class="software" href="#"></a></li> </ul> <span class="cycle-pager-active">•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span><span>•</span></nav> </div> Cycle2 $('#sliding-gallery ul').cycle({ fx: 'carousel', carouselVisible: 1, speed: 'fast', timeout: 10000, slides: '>li', next: '.next', prev: '.prev', pager: '.sub-nav', pagerAnchorBuilder: function(idx, slide) { return '.sub-nav span:eq(' + idx + ')'; } });

  • jQuery .live() not working.

    - by Silvio Iannone
    Hi there, my actual problem is that .live() jQuery method is not working. This si the code where i use it: jQuery.fn.sb_animateMenuItem = function() { var mousehoverColor = '#0089F7'; var duration = 250; return this.each(function() { var originalColor = $(this).css('background-color'); $(this).live('mouseover', function() { this.style.cursor = 'pointer'; $(this).animate().stop(); $(this).animate( { backgroundColor: mousehoverColor }, duration); }); $(this).live('mouseout', function() { this.style.cursor = 'default'; $(this).animate( { backgroundColor: originalColor }, duration); }); }); }; This snipped is used i another page in this way: <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/jquery-1.4.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/color.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="engine/js/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/ui.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> // UI effects $(document).ready(function() { $('button').sb_animateButton(); $('input').sb_animateInput(); $('.top_menu_item').sb_animateMenuItem(); $('.top_menu_item_right').sb_animateMenuItem(); $('.left_menu_item').sb_animateMenuItem(); }); </script> Since my site uses AJAX requests i used the .live method in the first snippet, but when i load the page the effects are not applied the the button/input... tags. If i remove the .live method and use the 'normal' way, ui effects defined in the first snipped are applied but only the the elements loaded before any AJAX request. The elements loaded after the ajax request are not affected by first snippet (though they have the same selector). Thanks for helping.

  • [NHibernate and ASP.NET MVC] How can I implement a robust session-per-request pattern in my project,

    - by Guillaume Gervais
    I'm currently building an ASP.NET MVC project, with NHibernate as its persistance layer. For now, some functionnalities have been implemented, but only use local NHibernate sessions: each method that accessed the database (read or write) needs to instanciate its own NHibernate session, with the "using()" directive. The problem is that I want to leverage NHibernate's Lazy-Loading capabilities to improve the performance of my project. This implies an open NHibernate session per request until the view is rendered. Furthermore, simultaneous request must be supported (multiple Sessions at the same time). How can I achieve that as cleanly as possible? I searched the Web a little bit and learned about the session-per-request pattern. Most of the implementations I saw used some sort of Http* (HttpContext, etc.) object to store the session. Also, using the Application_BeginRequest/Application_EndRequest functions is complicated, since they get fired for each HTTP request (aspx files, css files, js files, etc.), when I only want to instanciate a session once per request. The concern that I have is that I don't want my views or controllers to have access to NHibernate sessions (or, more generally, NHibernate namespaces and code). That means that I do not want to handle sessions at the controller level nor the view one. I have a few options in mind. Which one seems the best ? Use interceptors (like in GRAILS) that get triggered before and after the controller action. These would open and close sessions/transactions. Is it possible in the ASP.NET MVC world? Use the CurrentSessionContext Singleton provided by NHibernate in a Web context. Using this page as an example, I think this is quite promising, but that still requires filters at the controller level. Use the HttpContext.Current.Items to store the request session. This, coupled with a few lines of code in Global.asax.cs, can easily provide me with a session on the request level. However, it means that dependencies will be injected between NHibernate and my views (HttpContext). Thank you very much!

  • ASP.NET Repeater Control Not Working in FireFox

    - by Robert Hyland
    everyone: I have an ASP.NET Application that uses a Repeater control to display a thumbnail gallery. When the user mouses over one of the thumbnails, the main image will present that thumbnail. It uses a Repeater control in a UserControl like this: <asp:Image ID="pictureImage" runat="server" Visible="true" Width="200px" /> <asp:Repeater ID="rpProductImages" runat="server" Visible="false"> <ItemTemplate> <div> <div style="float: left" id="smallImage" runat="server"> <div class="smallAltImage" onmouseover="showImage();" style="border: 1px solid #999999; margin: 5px 5px 5px 4px; width: 45px; height: 45px; background-position: center; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-image: url('<%#ResolveClientUrl(productImagesPath)%><%# String.Format("{0}", DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "ImageName")) %>');"> </div> <asp:Label ID="lblImageName" runat="server" Visible="false"><%# Eval("ImageName")%></asp:Label> </div> </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater> Then, in a javascript file, this: function showImage(){ // Get thumbnail path. var img = (this.style.backgroundImage).substring(4, (this.style.backgroundImage).length - 1); $('#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_ProductDetails1_pictureImage').attr('src', img); } It works fine in IE9, displaying the fully-qualified path for the image. In FireFox8, however, the img src looks like this: ""ProductImages/K42JY_500.jpg"" ... with two-sets of quotes! I think that the Repeater control is the central cause of the problem but I Googled and Googled again and could not find anyone that has experienced this similar situation! In fact, I'll PayPal anyone who can help me solve this with $50.00 (can't you tell I'm in the XMAS spirit, here?!) Any help is appreciated and "Thank You" in advance!

  • How to refresh xmlDataProvider when xml document changes at runtime in WPF?

    - by Kajsa
    I am trying to make a image viewer/album creator in visual studio, wpf. The image paths for each album is stored in an xml document which i bind to to show the images from each album in a listbox. The problem is when i add a image or an album at runtime and write it to the xml document. I can't seem to make the bindings to the xml document update so they show the new images and albums aswell. Calling Refresh() on the XmlDataProvider doesn't change anything. I don't wish to redo the binding of the XmlDataProvider, just make it read from the same source again. XAML: ... <Grid.DataContext> <XmlDataProvider x:Name="Images" Source="Data/images.xml" XPath="/albums/album[@name='no album']/image" /> </Grid.DataContext> ... <Label Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" HorizontalAlignment="Right" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Padding="0" Margin="0,0,0,5" Content="{x:Static resx:Resource.AddImageLabel}"/> <TextBox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Name="newImagePath" Margin="0" /> <Button Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="2" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Name="newImagePathButton" Content="{x:Static resx:Resource.BrowseImageButton}" Click="newImagePathButton_Click" /> ... <ListBox Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="4" Grid.Row="3" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Name="thumbnailList" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding BindingGroupName=Images}" SelectedIndex="0" Background="#FFE0E0E0" Height="110"> ... • Counting point size based on chart area during zooming/unzoomin

    - by Gacek
    Hi folks. I heave a quite simple task. I know (I suppose) it should be easy, but from the reasons I cannot understand, I try to solve it since 2 days and I don't know where I'm making the mistake. So, the problem is as follows: - we have a chart with some points - The chart starts with some known area and points have known size - we would like to "emulate" the zooming effect. So when we zoom to some part of the chart, the size of points is getting proportionally bigger. In other words, the smaller part of the chart we select, the bigger the point should get. So, we have something like that. We know this two parameters: initialArea; // Initial area - area of the whole chart, counted as width*height initialSize; // initial size of the points Now lets assume we are handling some kind of OnZoom event. We selected some part of the chart and would like to count the current size of the points float CountSizeOnZoom() { float currentArea = CountArea(...); // the area is counted for us. float currentSize = initialSize * initialArea / currentArea; return currentSize; } And it works. But the rate of change is too fast. In other words, the points are getting really big too soon. So I would like the currentSize to be invertly proportional to currentArea, but with some scaling coefficient. So I created the second function: float CountSizeOnZoom() { float currentArea = CountArea(...); % the area is counted for us. // Lets assume we want the size of points to change ten times slower, than area of the chart changed. float currentSize = initialSize + 0.1f* initialSize * ((initialArea / currentArea) -1); return currentSize; } Lets do some calculations in mind. if currentArea is smaller than initialArea, initialArea/currentArea > 1 and then we add "something" small and postive to initialSize. Checked, it works. Lets check what happens if we would un-zoom. currentArea will be equal to initialArea, so we would have 0 at the right side (1-1), so new size should be equal to initialSize. Right? Yeah. So lets check it... and it doesn't work. My question is: where is the mistake? Or maybe you have any ideas how to count this scaled size depending on current area in some other way?

  • Issues in Ajax based applications

    - by Sinuhe
    I'm very interested in developing Ajax based applications. This is, loading almost all of the content of the application via XMLHttpRequest, instead of only some combos and widgets. But if I try to do this form scratch, soon I find some problems without an easy solution. I wonder if there is some framework (both client and server side) to deal with this issues. As far as I know, there isn't (but I've searched mainly in Java world). So I am seriously thinking of doing my own framework, at least for my projects. Therefore, in this question I ask for several things. First, the possible problems of an ajax based development. Then, I'm looking for some framework or utility in order to deal with them. Finally, if there is no framework available, what features must it have. Here are the issues I thought: 1 - JavaScript must be enabled. Security paranoia isn't the only problem: a lot of mobile devices couldn't use the application, too. 2 - Sometimes you need to update more than one DIV (e.g. main content, menu and breadcrumbs). 3 - Unknown response type: when you make an Ajax call, you set the callback function too, usually specifying if expected response is a javascript object or in which DIV put the result. But this fails when you get another type of response: for example when the session has expired and the user must log in again. 4 - Browser's refresh, back and forward buttons can be a real pain. User will expect different behaviors depending on the situation. 5 - When search engines indexes a site, only follow links. Thus, content load by Ajax won't "exist" for who doesn't know about it yet. 6 - Users can ask for open a link in a different window/tab. 7 - Address bar doesn't show the "real" page you are in. So, you can't copy the location and send it to a friend or bookmark the page. 8 - If you want to monetize the site, you can put some advertisings. As you don't refresh entire page and you want to change the ad after some time, you have to refresh only the DIV where the ad is. But this can violate the Terms and Conditions of your ad service. In fact, it can go against AdSense TOS. 9 - When you refresh an entire page, all JavaScript gets "cleaned". But in Ajax calls, all JavaScript objects will remain. 10 - You can't easily change your CSS properties.

  • SVG via dynamic XML+XSL

    - by Daniel
    This is a bit of a vague notion which I have been running over in my head, and which I am very curious if there is an elegant method of solving. Perhaps it should be taken as a thought experiment. Imagine you have an XML schema with a corresponding XSL transform, which renders the XML as SVG in the browser. The XSL generates SVG with appropriate Javascript handlers that, ultimately, implement editing-like functionality such that properties of the objects or their locations on the SVG canvas can be edited by the user. For instance, an element can be dragged from one location to another. Now, this isn't particularly difficult - the drag/drop example is simply a matter of changing the (x,y) coordinates of the SVG object, or a resize operation would be a simple matter of changing its width or height. But is there an elegant way to have Javascript work on the DOM of the source XML document instead of the rendered SVG? Why, you ask? Well, imagine you have very complex XSL transforms, where the modification of one property results in complex changes to the SVG. You want to maintain simplicity in your Javascript code, but also a simple way to persist the modified XML back to the server. Some possibilities of how this may function: After modification of the source DOM, simply re-run the XSL transform and replace the original. Downside: brute force, potentially expensive operation. Create id/class naming conventions in the source and target XML/SVG so elements can be related back to each other, and do an XSL transform on only a subset of the new DOM. In other words, modify temporary DOM, apply XSL to it, remove changed elements from SVG, and insert the new one. Downside: May not be possible to apply XSL to temporary in-browser DOMs(?). Also, perhaps a bit convoluted or ugly to maintain. I think that it may be possible to come up with a framework that handles the second scenario, but the challenge would be making it lightweight and not heavily tied to the actual XML schema. Any ideas or other possibilities? Or is there maybe an existing method of doing this which I'm not aware of? UPDATE: To clarify, as I mentioned in a comment below, this aids in separating the draw code from the edit code. For a more concrete example of how this is useful, imagine an element which determines how it is drawn dependent on the value of a property of an adjacent element. It's better to condense that logic directly in the draw code instead of also duplicating it in the edit code.

  • change maxlength depending of the option selected

    - by tuner3000
    I've seen similar questions posted and tried to change them to meet my needs but I don't know enough about javascript to do it. I need that when a user change the dropdown select, the "titre text field" maxlength is dynamically changed a, b c and d max maxlength should be 40 and e maxlength should be 2 my code is below, I don't know why but it is not working correctly: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>title page</title> </head> <body> <script type="text/javascript"> function changeValue(dropdown) { var option = dropdown.options[dropdown.selectedIndex].value, field = document.getElementById('titre'); if (option == 'a' || option == 'b' || option == 'c' || option == 'd') { field.maxLength = 40; } else if (option == 'e') { field.value = field.value.substr(0, 2); // before reducing the maxlength, make sure it contains at most two characters; you could also reset the value altogether field.maxLength = 2; } }? </script> <form action="converter.php" method="post"> <h2>Feel all field below:</h2> <div> Title: <input type="texte" name="titre" id="titre" maxLength="40"/> Format: <select id="format" name="format" onchange="changeValue(this);"> <option value="a">A</option> <option value="b">B</option> <option value="c">C</option> <option value="d">D</option> <option value="e">E</option> </select> </div> <div> <textarea name="texte" style="width: 415px; height: 155px;"></textarea> </div> <div> <input type="submit" value="OK" /> </div> </form> </body> </html>

  • Replace Infinite loop in Flex

    - by H P
    Hello, I want to access a webservice:getMonitorData() , on creationcomplete and returns an array, in an infinite loop so that the getIndex0.text is updated each time. Flex is not able to handle an infinite loop and gives a timeout error 1502. If I run the for loop until i<2000 or so it works fine. How can replace the loop so that my webservice is accessed continiously and the result is shown in getIndex0.text. This is how my application looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" width="400" height="300" xmlns:plcservicebean="server.services.plcservicebean.*" creationComplete="clientMonitor1()"> <fx:Script> <![CDATA[ import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.rpc.CallResponder; import mx.rpc.events.FaultEvent; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; [Bindable] public var dbl0:Number; //-----------Infinite Loop, Works fine if condition = i<2000------------------------ public function clientMonitor1():void{ for(var i:int = 0; ; i++){ clientMonitor(); } } public function clientMonitor():void{ var callResp:CallResponder = new CallResponder(); callResp.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, monitorResult); callResp.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, monitorFault); callResp.token = plcServiceBean.getMonitorData(); } public function monitorResult(event:ResultEvent):void{ var arr:ArrayCollection = event.result as ArrayCollection; dbl0 = arr[0].value as Number; } protected function monitorFault(event:FaultEvent):void{ Alert.show(event.fault.faultString, "Error while monitoring Data "); } ]]> </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations> <plcservicebean:PlcServiceBean id = "plcServiceBean" showBusyCursor="true" fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)" /> </fx:Declarations> <mx:Form x="52" y="97" label="Double"> <mx:FormItem label = "getMonitorValue"> <s:TextInput id = "getIndex0" text = "{dbl0}"/> </mx:FormItem> </mx:Form> </s:Group>

  • jQuery multiple class selection

    - by morpheous
    I am a bit confused with this: I have a page with a set of buttons (i.e. elements with class attribute 'button'. The buttons belong to one of two classes (grp1 and grp2). These are my requirements For buttons with class enabled, when the mouse hovers over them, a 'button-hover' class is added to them (i.e. the element the mouse is hovering over). Otherwise, the hover event is ignored When one of the buttons with class grp2 is clicked on (it has to be 'enabled' first), then I disable (i.e. remove the 'enabled' class for all elements with class 'enabled' (should probably selecting for elements with class 'button' AND 'enabled' - but I am having enough problems as it is, so I need to keep things simple for now). This is what my page looks like: <html> <head> <title>Demo</title> <style type="text/css" .button {border: 1px solid gray; color: gray} .enabled {border: 1px solid red; color: red} .button-hover {background-color: blue; } </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script> </head> <body> <div class="btn-cntnr"> <span class="grp1 button enabled">button 1</span> <span class="grp2 button enabled">button 2</span> <span class="grp2 button enabled">button 3</span> <span class="grp2 button enabled">button 4</span> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> /* <![CDATA[ */ $(document).ready(function(){ $(".button.enabled").hover(function(){ $(this).toggleClass('button-hover'); }, function() { $(this).toggleClass('button-hover'); }); $('.grp2.enabled').click(function(){ $(".grp2").removeClass('enabled');} }); /* ]]> */ </script> </body> </html> Currently, when a button with class 'grp2' is clicked on, the other elements with class 'grp2' have the 'enabled' class removed (works correctly). HOWEVER, I notice that even though the class no longer have a 'enabled' class, SOMEHOW, the hover behaviour is still applied to these elemets (WRONG). Once an element has been 'disabled', I no longer want it to respond to the hover() event. How may I implement this behavior, and what is wrong with the code above (i.e. why is it not working? (I am still learning jQuery)

  • Improving Javascript Load Times - Concatenation vs Many + Cache

    - by El Yobo
    I'm wondering which of the following is going to result in better performance for a page which loads a large amount of javascript (jQuery + jQuery UI + various other javascript files). I have gone through most of the YSlow and Google Page Speed stuff, but am left wondering about a particular detail. A key thing for me here is that the site I'm working on is not on the public net; it's a business to business platform where almost all users are repeat visitors (and therefore with caches of the data, which is something that YSlow assumes will not be the case for a large number of visitors). First up, the standard approach recommended by tools such as YSlow is to concatenate it, compress it, and serve it up in a single file loaded at the end of your page. This approach sounds reasonably effective, but I think that a key part of the reasoning here is to improve performance for users without cached data. The system I currently have is something like this * All javascript files are compressed and loaded at the bottom of the page * All javascript files have far future cache expiration dates, so will remain (for most users) in the cache for a long time * Pages only load the javascript files that they require, rather than loading one monolithic file, most of which will not be required Now, my understanding is that, if the cache expiration date for a javascript file has not been reached, then the cached version is used immediately; there is no HTTP request sent at to the server at all. If this is correct, I would assume that having multiple tags is not causing any performance penalty, as I'm still not having any additional requests on most pages (recalling from above that almost all users have populated caches). In addition to this, not loading the JS means that the browser doesn't have to interpret or execute all this additional code which it isn't going to need; as a B2B application, most of our users are unfortunately stuck with IE6 and its painfully slow JS engine. Another benefit is that, when code changes, only the affected files need to be fetched again, rather than the whole set (granted, it would only need to be fetched once, so this is not so much of a benefit). I'm also looking at using LabJS to allow for parallel loading of the JS when it's not cached. So, what do people think is a better approach? In a similar vein, what do you think about a similar approach to CSS - is monolithic better?

  • jQuery + Dialog Form Validation

    - by Panther24
    Hi, I have a jQuery Dialog form and on submit I'm trying to validate the fields. I'm using http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation to validate. In this I'm facing an issue, the validate function is not being called. I'm posting some snippet of my code $("#register-dialog-form").dialog({ autoOpen: false, height: 350, width: 450, modal: true, buttons: { 'Register': function() { $("#registerFrm").validate({ rules: { accountid: "required", name: { required: true, minlength: 5 }, username: { required: true, minlength: 5 }, password: { required: true, minlength: 5 } }, messages: { firstname: "Please enter your firstname", accountid: "Please enter the lastname", name: "Please enter a user friendly name", username: { required: "Please enter a username", minlength: jQuery.format("Enter at least {0} characters") }, password: { required: "Please provide a password", minlength: jQuery.format("Password must be at least {0} characters long") } } }); //****************** //TODO: Need to submit my form here //****************** $(this).dialog('close'); }, Cancel: function() { $(this).dialog('close'); } }, close: function() { //$('registerFrm').clearForm(); } }); Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong here. I've also tried to put the validation into $(document).ready(function() {}, but with no success. Here is the html code <div id="register-dialog-form" title="Register Account - Master" align="center" style="display: none"> <s:form name="registerFrm" id="registerFrm" action="registermaster" method="POST"> <table width="90%" border="0" class="ui-widget"> <tr> <td> <s:textfield label="Account Id" name="accountid" id="accountid" cssClass="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <s:textfield label="Name" name="name" id="name" cssClass="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <s:textfield label="Username" name="username" id="username" cssClass="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <s:password label="Password" name="password" id="password" cssClass="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" /> </td> </tr> </table> </s:form> </div><!--End of RegisterAcc form-->

  • Returning JSON in CFFunction and appending it to layer is causing an error

    - by Mel
    I'm using the qTip jQuery plugin to generate a dynamic tooltip. I'm getting an error in my JS, and I'm unsure if its source is the JSON or the JS. The tooltip calls the following function: (sorry about all this code, but it's necessary) <cffunction name="fGameDetails" access="remote" returnType="any" returnformat="JSON" output="false" hint="This grabs game details for the games.cfm page"> <!---Argument, which is the game ID---> <cfargument name="gameID" type="numeric" required="true" hint="CFC will look for GameID and retrieve its details"> <!---Local var---> <cfset var qGameDetails = ""> <!---Database query---> <cfquery name="qGameDetails" datasource="#REQUEST.datasource#"> SELECT titles.titleName AS tName, titles.titleBrief AS tBrief, games.gameID, games.titleID, games.releaseDate AS rDate, genres.genreName AS gName, platforms.platformAbbr AS pAbbr, platforms.platformName AS pName, creviews.cReviewScore AS rScore, ratings.ratingName AS rName FROM games Inner Join platforms ON platforms.platformID = games.platformID Inner Join titles ON titles.titleID = games.titleID Inner Join genres ON genres.genreID = games.genreID Inner Join creviews ON games.gameID = creviews.gameID Inner Join ratings ON ratings.ratingID = games.ratingID WHERE (games.gameID = #ARGUMENTS.gameID#); </cfquery> <cfreturn qGameDetails> </cffunction> This function returns the following JSON: { "COLUMNS": [ "TNAME", "TBRIEF", "GAMEID", "TITLEID", "RDATE", "GNAME", "PABBR", "PNAME", "RSCORE", "RNAME" ], "DATA": [ [ "Dark Void", "Ancient gods known as 'The Watchers,' once banished from our world by superhuman Adepts, have returned with a vengeance.", 154, 54, "January, 19 2010 00:00:00", "Action & Adventure", "PS3", "Playstation 3", 3.3, "14 Anos" ] ] } The problem I'm having is every time I try to append the JSON to the layer #catalog, I get a syntax error that says "missing parenthetical." This is the JavaScript I'm using: $(document).ready(function() { $('#catalog a[href]').each(function() { $(this).qtip( { content: { url: '/gamezilla/resources/components/viewgames.cfc?method=fGameDetails', data: { gameID: $(this).attr('href').match(/gameID=([0-9]+)$/)[1] }, method: 'get' }, api: { beforeContentUpdate: function(content) { var json = eval('(' + content + ')'); content = $('<div />').append( $('<h1 />', { html: json.TNAME })); return content; } }, style: { width: 300, height: 300, padding: 0, name: 'light', tip: { corner: 'leftMiddle', size: { x: 40, y : 40 } } }, position: { corner: { target: 'rightMiddle', tooltip: 'leftMiddle' } } }); }); }); Any ideas where I'm going wrong? I tried many things for several days and I can't find the issue. Many thanks!
