• How to find location of installed library

  Background: I'm trying to build my program but first I need to set up libraries in netbeans. My project is using GLU and therefore I installed libglu-dev. I didn't note location where the libraries were located and now I can't find them.. I've switched to Linux just a few days ago and so far I'm very content with it, however I couldn't google this one out and becoming frustrated.. Is there way to find out where files of package were installed without running installation again? I mean if I got library xxx and installed it some time ago, is there somecommand xxx that will print this info? I've already tried locate, find and whereis commands but either I'm missing something or I just can't do it correctly.. for libglu, locate returns: /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa/control /usr/share/bug/libglu1-mesa/script /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/libglu1-mesa/copyright /usr/share/lintian/overrides/libglu1-mesa /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.list /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.md5sums /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.postinst /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.postrm /var/lib/dpkg/info/libglu1-mesa:i386.shlibs Other two commands fail to find anything. Now locate did it's job but I'm sure none of those paths is where the library actually resides (at least everything I was linking so far was in /usr/lib or usr/local/lib). The libglu was introduced just as example, I'm looking for general solution for this problem.

• Apache gzip with chucked encoding

  I'm expiriencing some problem with one of my data source services. As it says in HTTP response headers it's running on Apache-Coyote/1.1. Server gives responses with Transfer-Encoding: chunked, here sample response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml;charset=utf-8 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 06:13:52 GMT And problem is when I'm requesting server to send gzipped request it often sends not full response. I recieve response, see that last chunk recived, but then after ungzipping I see that response is partial. So my question is: is it common apache issue? maybe one of it's mod_deflate plugins or something? Ask questions if you need more info. Thanks.

• Will HTML5/JS Eventually Replace All Client Side Languages? [closed]

  I'm just wondering about the future of it all. IMHO, there are 4 forces that define where technology goes: Microsoft, Apple, Google, Adobe. It looks like in Apple's iPhone/iPad iADs can now be programmed in HTML5. So does that mean HTML5 will eventually replace objective-c? Also, Microsoft has now shifted it's focus from WPF/Silverlight to HTML5 and I assume Visual Studio 2011 will be all about tooling support for HTML5. Because that's what Microsoft do. (Tools). In a few months IE9 the last major browser will support HTML5. Similarly Adobe is getting on the HTML5 bandwagon and allows to export flash content to HTML5 in their latest tools. And we all know how much in bed Google is with html5. Heck, their latest Operating System (Chrome OS) is nothing but a big fat web browser. Apps for Mobile (i.e., iPhone, Android, WM7) are very hard for a company to program especially for many different devices (each with their own language) so I'm assuming this won't last too long. I.e., HTML5 will be the unifying language. Which is somewhat sad for app developers because now users will be able to play the "cool" html5 apps for free on the web and it'll be hard to charge for them. So are strongly-typed languages really doomed, and in the future, say 5-10 years, will client side programming only be in HTML5? Will all of us become javascript programmers? :) Because the signs are sure pointing that way...

• SQL Query for Determining SharePoint ACL Sizes

  When a SharePoint Access Control List (ACL) size exceeds more than 64kb for a particular URL, the contents under that URL become unsearchable due to limitations in the SharePoint search engine.  The error most often seen is The Parameter is Incorrect which really helps to pinpoint the problem (its difficult to convey extreme sarcasm here, please note that it is intended).  Exceeding this limit is not unheard of – it can happen when users brute force security into working by continually overriding inherited permissions and assigning user-level access to securable objects. Once you have this issue, determining where you need to focus to fix the problem can be difficult.  Fortunately, there is a query that you can run on a content database that can help identify the issue: SELECT [SiteId],      MIN([ScopeUrl]) AS URL,      SUM(DATALENGTH([Acl]))/1024 as AclSizeKB,      COUNT(*) AS AclEntries FROM [Perms] (NOLOCK) GROUP BY siteid ORDER BY AclSizeKB DESC This query results in a list of ACL sizes and entry counts on a site-by-site basis.  You can also remove grouping to see a more granular breakdown: SELECT [ScopeUrl] AS URL,       SUM(DATALENGTH([Acl]))/1024 as AclSizeKB,      COUNT(*) AS AclEntries FROM [Perms] (NOLOCK) GROUP BY ScopeUrl ORDER BY AclSizeKB DESC

You have to edit your php.ini file and add new extension "extension=php_imagick.dll" 4.) Save ini file and restart apache server. (If necessary, restart your windows) 5.) phpinfo() should show imagick enabled. after that I execute a sample script but its not working. it shows the Imagic class missing error. Please help me to install Imagick. :-(

• Translation and Localization Resources for UX Designers

  Here is a handy list of translation and localization-related resources for user experience professionals. Following these will help you design an easily translatable user experience. Most of the references here are for web pages or software. Fundamentally, remember your designs will be consumed globally, and never divorce the design process from the development or deployment effort that goes into bringing your designs to life in code. Ask yourself today: Do you know how the text you are using in your designs are delivered to the customer, even in English? Key areas that UX designers always seen to fall foul of, in my space anyway, are: Terminology that is impossible to translate (jargon, multiple modifiers, gerunds) or is used inconsistently Poorly written, verbose text (really, just write well in English, no special considerations) String construction (concatenation of parts assembled dynamically) Composite widget positioning (my favourite) Hard-coded fonts, small font sizes, or character formatting or casing that doesn't work globally Format that is not separate from content Restricted real estate not allowing for text expansion in translation Forcing formatting with breaks, and hard-coding alphabetical sorting Graphics that do not work in Bi-Di languages (because they indicate directionality and can't flip) or contain embedded text. The problems of culturally offensive icons are well known by now in the enterprise applications space, though there are some dangers, such as the use of flags to indicate language, for example. • SQL – Business Intelligence: Derive Data or Information?

  We all know the value of information in our lives. Whether it’s a personal decision or a business initiated one, people need it. But the question is: who is to make the distinction between data and information? We all come across a whole lot of data daily, that may be significant or not. We filter what’s required and forget about the rest. Information is filtered and distilled data. Filtering and distillation can also alter its actual meaning and natural state. Therefore, in this blog we discover some ways to ensure that we’re using business intelligence derived from the right information for making critical management decisions. Four key questions managers must ask themselves before making a decision: 1. Am I working with data or information? 2. What is it’s context? 3. How recent is it? 4. How was it derived or what is the source? The first question is probably the most important. You must know what you’re dealing with here. If you see use of adjectives and conclusions drawn, it’s information. Not raw data. You very next concern must be whether this is guised to present a particular viewpoint or perspective. It makes a lot of difference if you take a decision based on someone’s propaganda to distort real facts. Therefore, the context and the intentions of the distillation process must be clear to you. The next consideration is whether data is recent enough to hold any value. Since it has a very short shelf life, you must ensure that its context and value is not lost out of time. The last and the most important consideration is how was it derived in the first place. The observer effect is what calls the shots here. The source can change the context to a great extent if the collection methodology  and purpose is not clear. Gathering intelligence for decision making requires users to be keen observers and not take the information provided on its face value alone. These probing questions will allow you to make sure that you’re working with clean and accurate data devoid of any influence or manipulations. Only then can you be sure of deriving true business intelligence for your organization. BI technology is also a great way to ensure accuracy of reports. • Software to copy non-duplicate files from CD/DVD

  I have several CDs/DVDs which have partially overlapping content (the overlapping files are identical, but have different names), and some of the files are on my hard disk. I need to get the remaining unique files copied to my hard disk. I found a really good duplicate file finder, Duplicate Cleaner, which lets you select multiple folders and then finds duplicates by checksum (or file name, size, date) and is very fast, and free. It won't help me do what I want though, unless I just copied everything, and then deleted the duplicates - but I would have to do multiple cycles, as I don't have room to copy all the CDs/DVDs to my hard disk. I found a couple of file sync programs, but they don't have the compare function - the file names must match. (I tried other duplicate file finders on CNET, but they aren't as good as Duplicate Cleaner, and also don't have the functionality I need.) Thanks for any help.

• Troubleshooting Windows Server 2012 storage spaces

  I'm trying the new "Storage Pools" feature on Windows Server 2012, and I've created several disks on the pool. When I restart the server, some of the disks (two, out of four) do not attach automatically, and don't show up in the list of disks. I can go to Server Manager File and Storage Services Storage Pools, and the faulty disks are listed with a yellow triangle beside them. The drive health in the properties are "unknown". But if I right-click and choose attach, the disk comes online, with all the content on it intact. But after another restart, it's the same story. I didn't find any relevant event in the event log, how can I find out why the drives are not attaching?

• Declarative View Objects (VOs) for better ADF performance

  Just got back from ODTUG's kscope13 conference which had a lot of good deep ADF content. In one of my session I ran out of time to do one of my demos, so I wanted to share it here instead. This is a demo of how Declarative View Objects can increase your application's performance. For those who are not familiar with declarative VOs, those are VOs that don't actually specify a hard coded query. Instead ADF creates their query at runtime, and it does it based on the data that is requested in your UI layer. This can be a huge saver of both DB resources and network resources. More in the documentation. Here is a quick example that shows you how using such a VO can automatically switch to a simpler SQL instead of a complex join when needed. (note while I demo with 11.1.2.* the feature is there in 11.1.1.* versions also). The demo also shows you how you can monitor the SQL that ADF BC issues to the database using the WebLogic logging feature in JDeveloper. As a side note, I would have loved to see more ADF developers attending Kscope. This demo was part of the "ADF intro" track at Kscope, In the advanced ADF track you would have been treated to a full tuning session about ADF with lots of other tips. Consider attending Kscope next year - it is going to be in Seattle this time.

• Reverse Proxy Methods for Hosting a Low-Bandwidth Dynamic Website

  I am building a webcam w/ HTTP server that will be running from a low-bandwith connection. The content on the site will be changing every 5 to 10 minutes. Instead of serving files directly from this connection, are there hosting companies that can act as a reverse proxy for my site? Therefore, if nobody is using the site, the local internet connection remains idle. And if I receive 1000 hits all at the same time, only one HTTP GET is required, and the hosting company (on a fat pipe) continues serving the other 999 requests? This doesn't sound like a very common usage model, but I feel like this would be the optimal solution to my situation.

• Displays tabs in Firefox 3.6 across multiple rows?

  Hello, After upgrading to Firefox 3.6, I noticed that there no longer seems to be a way to have tabs all displayed in several rows when there are too many to fit in the window: http://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/firefox_tabs_multiple_rows-500x179.jpg I find it very inconvenient to have to click on the down arrow at the far-right side to go through the list of open tabs. The TabMixPlus add-on is incompatible with ReloadEvery 3.6.2, so that's not a good solution either. Does someone know if it's possible to either configure FireFox 3.6 to go back to the previous way of displaying multiple tabs, or if there's an add-on that's compatible with ReloadEvery that would do the trick? Thank you.
