• How can I launch Matlab 2012 on Ubuntu 12.04?

  I have a problem with the MATLAB 2012 installation. After having installed it using alt+f2 and having used gksudo nautilus I have installed MATLAB in the correct folder which is: /usr/local/MATLAB/R2012a Then I inserted the license and the window told "activation complete" or something like that. This made me happy, but only for a while because as soon as I try to search for Matlab within the applications I cannot find it and neither if I try to run matlab into terminal it says: command not found Can someone help me!? • VMWare Player pauses often

  I'm using a 64bit Windows 8 inside vmplayer, with 2 virtual processor cores, virtual hard disk resides on a fast local disc and is not preallocated; host CPU is Intel i7 3770, should be capable of hardware virtualisation but I don't know if VMWare uses it; NAT networking; Sound card connected, USB connected, accelerated 3D graphics (NVidia 313.30 on host) My problem is, that the VM often pauses for a few seconds, and then speeds up for a few seconds to reach real time again. Time in the VM actually moves faster after the pause, for example all animations using timers speed up. When running, the vmware-vmx process shows ~150% CPU usage in top, but 0% when pausing (and D state i.e. waiting for IO). iotop shows normal disk writes from vmware-vmx threads, but during pauses, the flush kernel thread uses 99%. Are there some options to try so that VMWare doesn't wait for IO? I've tried a few things available from the GUI but the issue never went away…

  I noticed to my surprise that an event created with dispatchEvent(event) gets handled directly when called, and not together with other events at a specific phase of the frame loop. Two main reasons of having an event system are: so that you can call code B from code A, but still want to prioritize code A. to make sure there are no freaky loopedy loops where code A calls code B calls code A ... I wonder what Ansca's rationale behind having events being handled directly this way is. And does Corona handle loopedy loops and other such pitfalls gracefully?   I've been having a complete nightmare trying to configure proftpd. I've got proftp server working with an sql database. However I want to have any files uploaded able to viewed by the webserver running on the same box. The folders get created in /var/tmp/ as rwx------ 2 ftpuser ftpgroup 4096 Oct 8 20:35 50730c4346512 drwx------ 2 ftpuser ftpgroup 4096 Oct 8 20:38 50730f3a811ca I've tried adding www-data to group with the following usermod -g www-data ftpuser But this doesn't allow the web server access. In proftpd.conf I have the following umask set Umask 0022 It doesn't seem to make a difference what I set that value to. /etc/group (sure I've messed up one of these two but I'm getting desperate) ftpgroup:x:2001:www-data www-data:x:33:ftpgroup /etc/passwd www-data:x:33:33:www-data:/var/www:/bin/sh proftpd:x:108:65534::/var/run/proftpd:/bin/false ftp:x:109:65534::/srv/ftp:/bin/false ftpuser:x:2001:33:proftpd user www-data:/bin/null:/bin/false The ftpuser table in the database has uid / gid set to 2oo1 for both. I'm going absolutely crazy trying to solve this any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s Also, although if I manually connect to the ftp server I can upload files via FileZilla. Although this isn't working for the web-camera, although there is talky talky going on between the server and the camera.

• I have a library and several small programs that use it: how should I structure my git repositories?

  I have some code that uses a library that I and others frequently modify (usually only by adding functions and methods). We each keep a local fork of the library for our own use. I also have a lot of small "driver" programs (~100 lines) that use the library and are used exclusively by me. Currently, I have both the driver programs and the library in the same repository, because I frequently make changes to both that are logically connected (adding a function to the library and then calling it). I'd like to merge my fork of the library with my co-workers' forks, but I don't want the driver programs to be part of the merged library. What's the best way to organize the git repositories for a large, shared library that needs to be merged frequently and a number of small programs that have changes that are connected to changes in the library?

• Installing ionCube on Windows 2008 64bit

  I've been trying to install ionCube onto my server but have not been having a lot of luck! My server is: Windows 2008 64bit PHP 5.3.14 Thread Safe disabled running as FastCGI In my PHP.ini I have : zend_extension="C:\Program Files (x86)\PHP\ext\ioncube_loader_win_5.2.dll" The path is correct. The DLL is from the x86 NONTS VC9 version of ionCube and PHP is using the MSVC9 (Visual C++ 2008) compiler though I have also tried using the x86 NONTS VC6 version of ionCube. I'm not getting any error but I'm also not getting ionCube when using phpinfo(): This program makes use of the Zend Scripting Language Engine: Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2012 Zend Technologies Apart from the mail application pools I have also set all the applications in the application pool in IIS7 to use 32bit mode. I don't know if FastCGI is running under 64 or 32 bit mode nor how to switch it or whether it would make a difference? I know it can be a problem installing ionCube onto 64bit Windows but I have also come across threads whereby other people have also [somehow] managed to get it working but even though I seem to be doing the same as them I still can't get it working.

  In my website I changed or better word modified the directory name ""vehicles-cars"" to ""vehicles-cars-for-sale"" when i tried to redirect using wild card redirect my old directory name to new directory name in my web hosting cpanel account. every time when i open pages from that directory i am getting error code. This web-page has a redirect loop. The website is php. The problem is that that my lots of pages from old directory are indexed in googles and they are getting duplicate contents. If I redirect single page it works perfect but there are lots of pages so I need wild card redirect to redirect whole directory . I really need some advice what to do with this problem. • Combining AD permissions with FTP

  We're using Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory controlling access to a network share. We've setup FTP so that people can access that share from outside (we used to use the PPTP VPN but for various reasons we need to switch to FTP). So far here is what we've managed to implement on the FTP: -The network share is used as the FTP root (defined as a UNC) and that is working fine. -AD authentication is working fine (wrong password and you stay out, good password you're in, password management in AD correctly synched with the FTP). -AD permissions are failing: the AD permissions on the content of the FTP root are ignored: it's either a user only has read or write access, but this applies to the whole FTP root, which obviously isn't suitable since that FTP root is initially our network share and files/folders have different AD permissions depending on people's groups... Whether we set the permissions through the share OR the FTP management interface, AD permissions are never enforced. Q1: Is that normal? Q2: If so what solutions exist to combine AD permissions with FTP on MS server 2008? Q3: If not, where should I look to fix the configuration?

I can't send e-mail via PHP's mail() function, it always returns the following error: SMTP server response: 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local Which setting should I alter in order to enable sending mail? 2.) The exec() and passthru() PHP functions don't work; their outputs are blank even when I try to run simple commands such as dir.   I have a web application in which i need to show a big number of data or records for clients. Now i 'll use pagination but i was wondering should I: Load all the data once then pagination, sorting and sarching 'll be easy..But it 'll takes big time(using local DB it takes up to 9 sec.) Or each time i show new page(from the pagination) i make a new request to server and then new request to DB to get the next records..But then what if the client click on Prev button, i 'll make a new request to get data that I had previously..Should i cach data that are loaded before and how if that's good technique? So load all data once or make a new request every time i need data that maybe have been loaded before. I'm using ASP.NET MVC SPA with durandaljs and knockoutjs

  Hi, We have an existing (production) Hyper-V VM that I want to clone to create a staging server. This server is NOT on a domain/active-directory - uses all local computer accounts. It is Windows 2008 OS, SharePoint 2007, SQL server 2008, Reporting Services, and some custom line-of-business web-applications. We rename the server etc as per the documentation we have, but are having troubles specifically with SharePoint. Some of the sites do not come up, and some issues adding/updating site settings such as site owners. Does anyone know of a definitive resource to this process? thanks Update: We seem to have most working, but the Shared Service Provider, and the SSP's admin site, are not working. In addition, the custom web-parts that reference IIS Session objects are failing (which seem to be related to the Share Service Provider). All the Windows user accounts for various services are renamed during the server cloning, but the windows account names in SQL server are not automatically changed. • Is it possible to use Back in Time with Ubuntu One without storing the back up files locally?

  I use Deja Dup as my back up tool. Love its simplicity and the fact that I can store my back up directly on my Ubuntu One account. Now I really like the flexibility of Back in Time, but I can not find a clean way to store my back up in Ubuntu One. Some threads suggest to use the Ubuntu One folder in your system, and that works, but it also keeps a local copy of the back up in my system, and I do not want that. Any work around for this? • SBS2011 Standard DNS suddenly not resolving some domains

  Suddenly today I am unable to resolve common domains like serverfault.com, facebook.com; but other domains like google.com, cnn.com work fine. This is on a client machine (Win7 Pro) connected to an SBS2011 Standard domain. The only DNS server is the SBS2011 server. The same domains work fine on all client PCs I have tried, and the same ones do not work. Using nslookup, I get 'no such domain' errors for facebook.com, and the correct DNS entries for the ones that do work. When I add Google's Public DNS to my client PC as a backup (primary = local SBS server, secondary = 8.8.8.8), everything works fine for my client PC, but querying from the SBS server directly or from other client PCs are broken (so I don't believe it's a firewall issue). My main question is how can I see what servers the SBS2011 server queries if it doesn't know about a domain? There is nothing in our firewall logs that say it blocked any DNS-based packets, but I also wanted to query based on the IP/FQDN on the servers that the SBS server was likely to contact to find out about facebook.com for example. Update 23/05/2012: It appears DNS is working again this morning for the affected websites. Both the DC on its own and all client PCs can once again access the websites that were not loading last night, as well as the websites that were working. I haven't changed anything overnight, so it appears that there was some kind of temporary glitch, but I can't understand what would have caused it on the network.

  Hi guys, I'm a little disapointed ! My aim was to build a VERY simple smtp proxy under debian to handle mail from a port (51234) and forward it to the standard 25 port. I compile and install a "delegate" witch can handle easily that. It's working very well like that : delegated SERVER="smtp://anotherSmtpServer:25" -P51234 The strange thing is, it's working on my virtual test machine and on the dedicated server in local but I can't manage to use it trought internet. • Wireless doesn't connect in Ubuntu 10.04 Lxde

  Problem I have a Dell mini 9, and the wireless has worked without trouble in Ubuntu and Xubuntu versions 8.04 and 10.04. However, after installing lxde, the wireless doesnt connect. Network manager recognizes the local networks, and will say that it is connected, but ifconfig does not confirm the connection or the existance of a wlan0. I have another Ubuntu 10.04 notebook that works fine. My wireless device is Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g What I have tried I have tried to remove and install network-mananager and inxi but neither work, and sudo modprobe wl returns WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.

• How do I read my PDFs and watch videos properly again?

  Whenever I watch videos, either online of local via Totem and/or open PDF files using evince. The system gets really, really bogged down. All apps get really slow, menus take forever to display, switching windows gives me time to make a coffee, etc. I have a couple of bug reports open on this, but what do I need to do to really troubleshoot the issue? I've purged Adobe Flash from the system, but YouTube HTML5 videos still have the issue. A bunch of PDFs saved locally trigger the problem. And to (temporarily) remove the slowness, I need to shutdown the computer, breath for a few minutes, then restart. A simple reboot does not do the trick. How can I identify the cause? This only started on 13.04. I've had Ubuntu on this machine for a year without a problem until "upgrading" to 13.04. I am not a programmer, but I suspect an issue with the Intel video driver.

• Hybrid Exchange Online setup with on premise public folders, certificate issues?

  We have a Hybrid Exchange setup with Exchange Online (v15 tenant) and Exchange 2010 on premise. The hybrid configuration for the most part is working, what I am having an issue with is getting public folders to work for cloud users. I followed the official documentation here (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249373(v=exchg.150).aspx) and it kind of works. When I am accessing Outlook on a public wifi I am able to bring up the cloud mailboxes and on premise public folders show up in Outlook. When I am accessing email via Outlook as a cloud user on the same LAN as the on premise exchange, the cloud user makes the outlook.com connection for live/ad/archive mailbox but fails to create a proxy connection for the on premise public folders. The error I get is a certificate mismatch, it seems that when a user on the LAN accesses Outlook/Exchange it is using a different certificate vs. when Outlook is launched on a WiFi network. When I look at the Outlook connection information, I see the connection to outlook.com for ad/live/archive mailbox but no entry for public folder connection. Our on premise Exchange is 2010 SP3 with latest CUs. The client is a domain joined laptop with Windows 7 and Office 2010 SP2, latest windows updates applied. Our infrastructure has a working ADFS 3 and DirSync setup for Office 365. My question then is, what do I need to do to make sure that the Cloud user launching Outlook on the LAN uses the proper certificate (the wildcard 3rd party cert.. vs. the self signed certificate which it looks like it may be using during the connection attempt).

Does anyone have any insight on university programs? I know Cal State Fullerton has a degree with a minor in Game Development. however, is that as important as getting a degree from a really great school? If I could shoot for something like Cal Poly would that be better? Or even Stanford or SF State being so close to so many gaming companies up there in the Bay area?

  This question already has an answer here: Is my mobile AMD card being used? 2 answers OS: Windows 8 CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 3635QM GPU 1 : Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU 2 : AMD Radeon™ HD 8870M other info: System Spects Problem: im unsure that CCC is using AMD card instead of Intel's, i have encountered several issues since updating to 8.1 and i don't know what to do What happened: Installed 8.1 patch first day After 1 minute of use, BBSOD, windows never loaded again System restore wouldnt recognize 8.0 restore points i did a system reset to windows 8 since the laptop was only 3 weeks old System Broke, it did restore to factory BUT kept the registry almost intact, i had to install almost everything again, since the factory drivers where working with the updated one's registry and several problems CCC Broke too <- What i've already done Installing new drivers on top of old ones didnt work, so i used AMD uninstaller first Uninstalled and Re-installed Intel's HD Graphics Driver Tried to install mobile center, but AMD told me that it wasnt compatible (even if thats the only driver that they provide via their page as seen Here) Tried to use Auto-Detect, couldnt install driver because card was disabled because it didnt have the drivers... (see what they did here?) Had to use a workaround with Samsung Update, the driver didnt appear as download so had to use search and downloaded the driver manually. Now the graphic card appears on device manager and catalyst but as 8800 series (not exact model), and cant check the card with neither dxdiag/GPU-z/HWMonitor when right-clicking on CCC only Intel card appears launching a game and using as "high performance" would speed it up a little but i cant be sure How to verify its working properly? HWMonitor wont show AMD card even when set to high performance Latest GPU-Z wont work because a problem with Intel's, and legacy ones wont either what can I do now? I don't even know if I fixed my problem or not, and i also want to to use Adobe Premier with it, and its locked (the option to run it with the amd card not intels) Edit: now it seems to work, but cant change the setting for adobe Premiere and other programs that i Need to

• Regulating outgoing traffic on ubuntu VM

  I am making a virtual network setup for my high school cybersecurity team to practice. I am connecting all the VMs together through a VPN and then people who are practicing will VPN in and ssh/remote desktop into the different VMs. The problem is that for practicing, they will need root access into the VMs and because the VMs are connecting to my personal network, the VMs pose a security risk to my personal network. Is there any way in either VMWare or VirtualBox or even making an unchangeable iptable (I can make all the windows VMs go thru a linux VM) to prevent people from connecting to my local network via the VM?
